Abstract:
Today's distributions of faunal groups reflect historic events—geological and evolutionary, as well as dispersals, extinctions and chance events. The extent to which each of these contributed to the hydroptilid faunas of mainland Australia, Tasmania, New Guinea, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Fiji and Vanuatu is explored by comparison of the faunal composition, geology and geography of Australia and these SW Pacific islands. Corroborative evidence is sought from other groups, flora as well as fauna.

Abstract In the city, elementary-school children are less familiar with flora and fauna. An animation application was proposed to assist them in learning flora and fauna as well as to help teachers and parents in teaching elementary-school children to understand the flora and fauna. Data were collected from various sources and the software to build such applications was prepared, i.e. Adobe Flash. To develop the application, a life cycle method was used, including: concept, design, material collecting, assembly, testing, and distribution. Testing results showed that the proposed application can be used as an additional learning material and help students to understand a subject more easily. In addition, teaching flora and fauna for children in Indonesia needs a strategy through additional facility in the class. To attract attention, it is necessary to create a class situation that makes children motivated to learn as well as the use of aids or media when the teacher is teaching. Also, the rapid advances in technology, especially information technology, encourage people to develop learning media that can be used anytime and anywhere outside the classroom. The proposed application was called Interactive Animation of Introduction to Flora and Fauna in Indonesia, and was implemented in SD 03 Cakung, East Jakarta, Indonesia. Keywords: Interactive animation, Flora, Fauna, Instructional Media.

Abstract:
Mokwam Area is one of the ecotourism objects in Warmare District, Manokwari Regency, West Papua Province. Whilst, it has a wide variety of endemic flora and fauna, ecotourism of Mokwam is also rich in herbs used by indigenous Mokwam known as Arfak tribe. The aim of this study were: 1) to identify the potential of ecotourism in Mokwam Area, 2) to better understanding constraints in ecotourism management supporting environmental preservation in Mokwam Area, and 3) to determine the ecotourism management strategies in favor of Mokwam environmental preservation. Data collection techniques of this research were observation, interview and documentation. The collected data was analysed by using qualitative descriptive and SWOT analysis. The SWOT is used to frame ecotourism management strategy by identifying internal and external factors. The results shows that the ecotourim potential of Mokwam area is a beautiful natural scenery, as well as biodiversity of flora and fauna. The potential attracted endemic faunas of Mokwam ecotourism is a variety of Birds of Paradise (Burung Cenderawasih) which are Cenderawasih Raja (Western Parotia), Cenderawasih Bela Rotan (Magnificent Bird of Paradise), Cenderawasih Ekor Panjang (Arfak Astrapia), Cenderawasih Buff-tailed sicklebill, Cenderawasih Long-tailed paradigala, Cenderawasih Black Sicklebill, as well as Namdurpolos Clever Bird (Vogelkop Bowerbird). Several considerable constraints in managing Mokwam ecotourism considering the environmental conservation is shifting cultivation method implementing by Arfak tribe. This method would potentially exterminate the forest as a habitat of the endemic flora and fauna if there is an increase in population, hot mix road access to Mokwam areas has still not been available and lack of cooperation between villages in Mokwam Area. The strategies based conservation concept in managing Mokwam ecotourism are promoting Mokwam potential ecotourim to the outside audiences; preserving the local wisdom of igya ser hanjob in order to protect the forests which are the habitat of endemic flora and fauna; improving road access to Mokwam Area; conducting comparative studies to similar tourism objects; establishing effective cooperation with other available tourism objects around Mokwam Area; empowering Arfak community about ecotourism management so that the community competitiveness towards other ecotourism areas could potentially be realised. Abstract:
The Maninjau Lake have been poised several times which caused by the waste of commercial aquaculture feed. The situation resulted in a drastic reduction of several members of the ecosystem in the lake. The reduction of species in an ecosystem will result in the loss of the lexicon related to the species. The current research studies the lexicon of flora and fauna in Lake Maninjau, West Sumatra Province, Indonesia in the context of ecolingusitis. The output of the current study is to provide documentation lexicon which have potential to be extinct due to ecological cases such as natural disasters and human intervention around the Lake Maninjau ecosystem. The data were collected by using observational method and interviews, then the data were analyzed using translational and referential identity method. The flora found in the waters are enceng gondok, lumuik, jaiia amun, sikajuik lauik, and pandan lauik. Fauna found include ideh, kijing, pensi, rinyuak, bada, gariang, nila, majalaya, kolai, lele, patin, udang, lintah, bujang sambilan, asang, rutiang, langkitang, sipuik, lokan, and acek. Some types of fauna such as rinyuak are difficult to find because they polluted by tubo. Pollution as an enemy of the ecosystem caused by human greedy behavior is one of the major factors of the language extinction.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Habitat fragmentation results to displacement of inhabiting floral and faunal species. The resulting geographic isolation of various species affect regeneration, genetic flows and recruitment. Hence, a study was conducted in a forested area of Mt. Malindawag in Naawan, Misamis Oriental. Sampling stations were designated at the agro-forest, mid-forest and upper-forest habitat types. Species characterizations were based on DAO 2007-01 and IUCN Red List for conservation status. Results showed highest diversity index of flora at mid-forest while lowest diversity was observed in the agro-forest area. A tree speciesCanariumracemosumobtained highest Species Importance Value (SIV) at 38.6%, 42% and 30.8%, respectively in the three habitat types. The highest endemicity of flora was at mid-forest with 24% per DAO 2007-01 and 26% per IUCN conservation status. Majority of faunal species were birds that were mostly resident and common and were usually observed at upper-forest habitat. The relatively low diversity and endemicity of flora and fauna species could be due to the influx of human population. Various activities undertaken were threatening the inhabiting biodiversity, and therefore, demand immediate protection and conservation measures from formulating policies to increasing awareness of various stakeholders. Future related studies were recommended to increase scientific understanding on the interrelationships of socio-economic and ecological interactions of biodiversity to the inhabiting human population.

Abstract:
Western Nepal is known for its rich freshwater resources that support diverse flora and fauna. Freshwater ecosystems of western Nepal provide multitudes of ecosystem goods, services (irrigation, hydroelectricity, drinking water) to humans, and provide breeding and feeding grounds for many wetland-dependent flora and fauna. But these wetlands are under tremendous pressure mainly due to anthropogenic activities. In this review, we provide a brief overview of the freshwater biodiversity, distributions of wetlands and their status in western Nepal. From this review, we found that western Nepal is rich in freshwater resources and supports diverse flora and fauna. The biologically significant Karnali River is the home of a globally endangered species, the South Asian river dolphin. We also discuss the conservation history of wetlands, identify the gaps, and further suggest priority hotspots for the formulation of future conservation strategies for these ecosystems.

Abstract:
This paper documents the previously undescribed terrestrial fauna (mites, nematodes, tardigrades) and flora (liverworts, mosses and lichens) of Marion Nunataks, Charcot Island (69°45'S 075°15'W). Species diversity in all groups is low relative to other Maritime Antarctic sites, probably a twin function of very limited ice-free terrain and extreme isolation. The fauna and flora are wholly immigrant and, with the exceptions of two lichens (Psilolechia lucida and Umbilicaria aff. thamnodes), clearly derived from the Maritime Antarctic. The fauna is unique for the Maritime Antarctic in that it appears to contain neither predatory arthropods nor Collembola (springtails), which are otherwise ubiquitous and important members of the terrestrial fauna of the zone. The flora includes exceptional development of three mosses that are encountered only rarely at latitudes south of c. 65°S, Brachythecium austrosalebrosum, Dicranoweisia crispula and Polytrichum piliferum. The southern limit for several mosses and lichens has been extended. This small and isolated site is extremely vulnerable to accidental human-mediated introduction of both native Antarctic and alien biota.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT. Urban development should not only focus on the man-made landscape but also the natural landscape. One of the important natural landscape is the existence of green open space. Green open space development in urban landscape areas has generally been more focused on achieving the goal of reducing pollutants, creating thermal comfort, as well as aesthetics. Unfortunately, the benefits of green space from the conservation, especially for flora and fauna are still largely ignored. This study aims to record biodiversity in Depok City to become a reference in achieving sustainable development (green development), so that environmental quality can be improved and functional not only for human but also for flora and fauna. The study was conducted in three locations with different characters namely Taman Lembah Gurame, Tahura Pancoran Mas, and Jalan Juanda. The results obtained by the value of vegetation diversity are consecutively in Tahura Pancoran Mas (2,535), Lembah Gurame Park (1,287), and Jalan Juanda (0.967). Green open space on Jalan Juanda has the lowest value of vegetation diversity. The low value of vegetation diversity directly affects the presence of fauna because not found in the Jalan Juanda. This study also managed to record important vegetations in each location that can provide information for whether or not the vegetation well-adapted in its environment. Abstract:
The state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico harbors the highest faunistic and floristic biodiversity of the region; however, to date, research effort has focused on terrestrial flora and fauna. Despite this bias, there is a large amount of dispersed information regarding the coastal and marine biodiversity of Oaxaca. The present study aimed to: 1) update and synthesize existing information to improve understanding of coastal and marine biodiversity; and 2) provide a baseline for future biodiversity studies in Oaxaca. The review of 198 references about Oaxaca's flora and fauna produced 2, 157 species records, from 15 taxonomic groups (Division, Phyla or Class). Nevertheless, knowledge about the fauna and flora of Oaxaca remains scarce compared to other regions, such as the Gulf of California. Additionally, floristic and faunistic knowledge is heterogeneous among the taxonomic groups; for instance, 242 (11 .2 °/o) species represent macroalgae, three invertebrate groups (annelids, crustaceans and mollusks) represent about 44.0% (949 species) of all species recorded, while the vertebrates are represented by 762 species (35.3°/o). Similarly, many invertebrate groups recorded in adjacent regions have not yet been recorded on the Oaxaca coast, including some platyhelminthes, rotifers, nematodes, oligochaetes, sipunculids, echiurans, tardigrades, pycnogonids, some crustaceans, brachiopods, chaetognaths, ascidians and cephalochordates. The study of the marine flora and fauna is far from finished; additional effort is required to complete the marine biodiversity inventory of Oaxaca.

Abstract:
A naturalist is someone who studies the patterns of nature identify different kingdom of flora and fauna in the nature. Being able to identify the flora and fauna around us often leads to an interest in protecting wild species, collecting and sharing information about the species we see on our travels is very useful for conserving groups like NCC. Deep-learning based techniques and methods are becoming popular in digital naturalist studies, as their performance is superior in image analysis fields, such as object detection, image classification, and semantic segmentation. Deep-learning techniques have achieved state of-the -art performance for automatic segmentation of digital naturalist through multi-model image sensing. Our task as naturalist has grown widely in the field of natural-historians. It has increased from identification to saviours as well. Not only identifying flora and fauna but also to know about their habits, habitats, living and grouping lead to fetching services for protection as well.

Abstract:
The paper gives a historical overview, and a summary of key findings from 70 previously published research papers giving scientific data over the years from 1980 to 2019. They concern the flora and/or fauna in the mangrove forests along the Sri Lankan coast, addressing diversity, taxonomy, distribution, and ecological interactions. A total of 28 mangrove floral species from 13 plant families have been reported so far. Similarly, faunal diversity studies have reported 99 invertebrates, dominated by Arthropoda (n = 55) and Mollusca (n = 26), and 214 vertebrates comprising Pisces (n = 112), Aves (n = 72), Reptilia (n = 13) and Amphibia (n = 2). Most studies have been concentrated on the Southwestern coast (nflora = 20, nfauna = 6). Negombo has been a hotspot for mangrove research, with a higher number of studies (nflora = 11, nfauna = 5). The majority of the mangrove studies were focused on mangrove floral diversity and taxonomy and were conducted over recent years (2010–2019). Scientific data on mangrove fauna is restricted to a certain geographical extent. This paper intends to identify the research gaps in the field of Sri Lankan mangroves regarding various aspects and suggests advancement in future studies. Overall, outputs from the present study would be helpful for upcoming researchers to focus more on filling the gaps in knowledge.
