I preformed classical molecular dynamics simulations where two silicon carbide nanoparticles of different sizes were held in high temperatures, and examined the changes in the nanoparticles’ structures. In the smaller of the two simulations, the growth of a curved carbon layer was observed, while the length of the larger simulation wasn’t long enough for a similar structure to form. Additionally, I re-evaluated the suitability of the potential chosen for the simulations, namely, the Tersoff potential with parametrization by Erhart and Albe.

The fact that South Africa has a developing economy with many socioeconomic challenges, the capacity to monitor the abundance of plants imported for pests and pathogens is largely inadequate. Herbarium collections spanning 170 years were used to analyze species frequency and richness. Twinspan classification and DCA ordination (Detrended Correspondence Analysis, an indirect gradient analysis) of a wide range of forest samples in north-eastern KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, indicated that Tropical Dry Forest species composition differs substantially from all other forests, and further, that Sand Forest samples, which occur on inland dune sands of P

Bibliography: pages 85-92.<br>Patterns of speciation and potential evolutionary pressures and constraints were investigated in the genus Thamnochortus. Phenetic methods were used to define boundaries of species prior to cladistic analyses. Comparative techniques were employed to investigate aspects of dispersal biology and fire survival habit. Methods of historical biogeography were used to evaluate vicariance and dispersal hypotheses. The broader understanding of species evolution gained in such a comparative study is important in conservation of species or areas, forming a basis for further

This Mediterranean-type climate region receives winter rainfall that averages between 250 and 650 mm annually over most of the region but reaches an average of more than 1000 mm in the mountains of the southwest and southern Cape.
