Abstract:
National legislation to mandate the use or consideration of Free/Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS) in government institutions is increasingly emerging as a strategy for FLOSS advocates in Latin America and the broader developing world. Such movements for the political use and regulation of FLOSS mark a distinct turn in the objectives and work of FLOSS advocates, whose activities largely focused on the dissemination of FLOSS as a technological artifact. This paper investigates the network of diverse actors involved in promoting FLOSS legislation in Peru, one of the first nations where a movement for FLOSS legislation emerged. It emphasizes that crucial to the work of FLOSS’ network actors is not their merely technological productivity, but their cultural and political productivity – that is, their ability to produce diverse body of meaning made both evident and mobile in narratives of FLOSS use and adoption.

Full text
Abstract:
In this paper, crude flakes (CFs) of shellac were converted into purified, nonwoven, thermospun fibers (shellac floss) using two devices, namely, an electric thermospinner (ETS) and a microwave thermospinner (MTS). This conversion was achieved by the action of heating and the centrifugal forces that arose toward the outside of the spinner-head cavity. The dissolved MTS floss was bleached using hydrogen peroxide to produce the bleached MTS floss. The unbleached shellac (CFs, ETS floss, and MTS floss) and the bleached MTS floss were characterized physically and chemically. There was no deterioration in the floss properties due to the heating tools or bleaching process. For the unbleached shellac, although there were no statistical differences in properties among the three shellac types (CFs, ETS floss, and MTS floss), except for insolubility in hot alcohol, acid value, and moisture content, the MTS floss exhibited superior values compared with the other types for nearly all the properties studied. Bleaching the MTS floss produced the greatest color change among other studies, caused a high reduction in insoluble solid matter due to increasing the solubility of some of the solid constituents of shellac, and slightly decreased its Young’s modulus (E). The important dental applications were surveyed and it was suggested that the suitability was enhanced by using the bleached MTS floss, based on its superior whiteness, along with the unique properties detected.

Gu, Pei. "Thermal Analysis of Milkweed Floss Using TG/FTIR." TopSCHOLAR®, 1992. http://digitalcommons.wku.edu/theses/1556.

Abstract:
The thermal analysis of milkweed and several individual commercial samples of .similar chemical composition has been carried out. By combining a two-stage thermal process. (pyrolysis-combustion) with TG-FTIR, it has been possible to identify the major organic volatile products during pyrolysis and to correlate gas evolution with the decomposition of the individual components (cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin) of the floss. During pyrolysis, acetic acid, formic acid and methanol are formed 1n addition to CO2, and H2O. The data also show that pyrolytic decomposition of the three chemical constituents of milkweed occur without any apparent synergistic interaction. The combustion of milkweed produced CO2 and H2O, as expected, but the removal of the waxy coating from the fibers results in an increased susceptibility to combustion. The coating displays no effect on the process of pyrolysis.

Abstract:
This thesis aims to support business strategic decisions of commercial FLOSS companies. This objective appears to be achieved through two specific and flexible models (theoretical study supported by set of practical proposals) and three open source companies based case studies. The five dynamics' model is used to support the definition of the strategic intents and their deployment within an open source company. Based on socio-political, psycho-cognitive and technological use dynamics, this work generates a conceptual framework integrating the concept of FLOSS environment, much broader than only communities. This model highlights the needs to identify the different actors, their roles and scopes of influence in a project, to manage their reluctance and to mobilize collaboration tools to leverage of FLOSS practices. Finally, the set of proposals can be used as guidelines for commercial FLOSS companies strategy definition and for researchers more specific studies

Abstract:
The Mill on the Floss, by Victorian novelist George Eliot, is a polylinguistic novel in Bakhtine's sense of the word in that it integrates the linguistic diversity of the society which it depicts. This novel published in 1860 was translated six times into French but never enjoyed a great reception in France. We examine three translations in this thesis: the first is by Francois D'Albert-Durade (1863), the second is by Lucienne Molitor (1957) and the last is by Alain Jumeau (2003).
D'Albert-Durade's translation evacuates the linguistic diversity in order to shape the novel to the requirements of the target literary polysystem. Molitor, by homogenising the eliotian prose, turns the canonised English novel into a French popular novel. Jumeau, for his part, by rehabilitating the peasant sociolect in his translation, marks the beginning of a rehabilitation movement of George Eliot in France. This study, through the analysis of the voice of a few key characters, attempts to follow the French "translative journey" of The Mill on the Floss.

Abstract:
This work’s objective is to analyze the concept of authorship in the context of George Eliot’s production. In order to do so, two relevant aspects of the author’s activity were defined. The first one is its empirical existence, located within certain practices, as pointed by Martha Woodmansee, Michel Foucault, Marisa Lajolo and Regina Zilberman. The second one, its intratextual operation, as a discoursive instance, distilled from Emile Benveniste’s enunciative theories and from the theoretical propositions of Wayne Booth, Umberto Eco and Wolfgang Iser. These elaborations allowed the development of two analyses: on one hand, of Mary Ann Evans’ (George Eliot’s) trajectory and her role as a late nineteenth century writer, and, on the other, of the novel The Mill on the Floss (1860), in which George Eliot’s authorship is perceived at work. It is noticeable, through the reconstruction of the author’s life, her own reflection on the meaning of authorial practice as a social mission. It is also remarkable, through her novel, the performance o an author figure which organizes the text and directs its reader’s interpretations to determined directions.

Abstract:
Background: Compression Tissue Flossing (CTF) is getting more and more popular. However, it is still unclear about the usability and function of CTF. Objective: The main objective was to investigate the current evidence on the function and usability of CTF by doing a systematic review. Methods: A PRISMA checklist was used to write this systematic review. Inclusion criteria; studies that examined CTF and its different effects published 2013-2021. The exclusion criteria were studies that were not published in English. The information sources used in this systematic review was done on PubMed and EBSCO (MEDLINE, CINAHL, SPORTDiscus) and as hand research. The methodological quality was assessed using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database scale and the AMSTAR. The method used to present the results is by organized tables where the study results are shown.   Results: A total of 25 articles was included in the review. A total of 509 participants (mean age 22,6) was included. The average physiotherapy database score was 56% (range= 18,1%-81,8%). 15 studies were considered as high quality, 10 as low quality. Compression Tissue Flossing showed many different significant effects as increased range of motion, countermovement jump, rate of force development, increased torque, jump height, jump velocity, reduced muscle contraction time, and perception of flexibility. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that compression tissue flossing has a good potential to be used in different contexts of sports performance/medicine. More studies are needed to validate the use of different floss bands and use them in bigger epidemiological settings as it right now seems to lack in its consistency depending on the pressure and application.
