<p>Fobier begränsar, mer eller mindre, många barns och vuxnas liv. Man vet inte idag fullt ut hur fobier utvecklas. Många undersökningar inom området använder retrospektiva data ofta 20 år eller mer tillbaks i tiden. Ett syfte med studien var att undersöka antalet livshändelser hos barn diagnosticerad med specifik fobi jämfört med en referensgrupp. Resultatet visade att referensgruppen (n = 422) under det senaste året i många fall varit med om signifikant fler livshändelser jämfört med den fobiska gruppen (n = 98).
