Abstract:
Cette recherche se propose d'elucider les raisons du succes d'une oeuvre litteraire : le cycle romanesque ville (1960-1968) de per anders fogelstrom, ecrivain contemporain suedois. L'etude de l'auteur, en tant qu'ecrivain et homme d'action, et du rapport entre l'oeuvre et le public, releve ainsi de la sociologie litteraire en tant qu'etude d'un engouement populaire. Mais elle releve aussi de l'etude des mentalites. La periode decrite dans ville correspond a l'avenement de la "societe de bien-etre" dont le symbole est devenu en suede la "maison du peuple". L'letude se propose de montrer comment, par le biais de l'utilisation de couples de notions opposees, l'auteur fait cohabiter des realites contraires : ville-campagne, quartiers riches-quartiers pauvres. . . Ces themes correspondent a chaque tome dans ville, la maison, l'ecluse (slussen), symbolisant la periode decrite. Ainsi pa. A. Fogelstrom agit comme un mediateur entre la ville et les hommes
The aim of this investigation, is to clear up the reasons for the success of a literary work : the cycle of novels the city by the contemporary swedish author p. A. Fogelstrom. By successivly studying the author (as a writer and a man of action), by describing the work and the public, our investigation belongs to the sociology of literature ; it is simultaneously a study of the swedish mentality and of how the author's work was received by the public. The period described in the city corresponds to the rise of the welfare state, which is symbolized in sweden by "the people's house" (the people's home). Our investigation tries to show how the author, using couples of opposite notions (town-countryside, wealth-poverty, old-new, etc. ), describes a conflicting reality. Per anders fogelstrom acts as a mediator between the city and the people, explaining to the people what it's past and it's history is

Abstract:
Jag har i denna uppsats, med hjälp av Kenneth Burkes pentadmodell, undersökt motiv i Per Anders Fogelströms Mina drömmars stad. För att analysera framställningen av individens förhållande till samhället har jag även använt mig av Burkes identifikationsbegrepp och hans tanke om att syften bakom människors och karaktärers handlingar kan bottna i en strävan efter rening av en skuld vi bär inom oss.Genom att undersöka fem olika sekvenser, kronologiskt jämnt fördelade i romanen, har jag sökt formulera tänkbara motiv som ligger bakom textens budskap. För att undersöka hur scen och agent interagerar har jag använt mig av Burkes begrepp ratio, det vill säga förhållandet mellan dessa två komponenter i pentaden. Resultatet består i att Fogelström ämnar berätta historien om de människor som skapade grunden för dagens välfärdssamhälle, vars historia sällan belyses. Han beskriver ett förhållandevis obarmhärtigt samhälle, en agent, som tar beslut om sina invånares livsvillkor. Genom sin text fastslår Fogelström att det inte är människan som är ond, utan samhällets oförmåga att förse alla med materiell och ekonomisk trygghet som kan få människan att handla omoraliskt. Räddningen finns i medmänskligheten och solidariteten människor emellan. Det finns alltså, trots stundvis brutala skildringar av fattigdom, ett positivt budskap i romanen. Människan står inte totalt handlingsförlamad inför stadens hänsynslöshet, utan kan genom uppvisad medmänsklighet skapa bättre förutsättningar för varandra. Människorna är också likvärdiga inför samhället, oavsett klasstillhörighet.För att urskilja med hjälp av vilka grepp Fogelström gör detta har jag använt mig av Aristoteles klassiska begrepp ethos, pathos och logos. Fogelström blandar genomgående historisk fakta med fiktion i romanen vilket inger ett trovärdigt ethos. Han vinner mottagarens förtroende genom detta starka författarethos, med vilket han låter påvisa sina kunskaper om Stockholms historia, men framförallt genom att väcka pathos hos läsaren. Fogelström vädjar till mottagarens känslor genom ordval, retoriska stilfigurer och fokalisering genom flera av romanens karaktärer. Fokaliseringen tillåter läsaren att se händelseförlopp genom karaktärernas egna ögon vilket skapar en förståelse för individernas känsloliv och handlingar.

Abstract:
I denna uppsats studeras Per Anders Fogelströms historiska roman Mina drömmars stad. Undersökningen har två syften. Det primära syftet är att undersöka hur maskulinitet konstrueras och upprätthålls av de två manliga huvudkaraktärerna. Denna del av undersökningen utgår från R.W. Connells maskulinitetsteori och genomförs med metoden karaktärsanalys. Det sekundära syftet är att undersöka romanens handling och karaktärer utifrån John Stephens kulturrelativistiska perspektiv. Undersökningens resultat visar att de två manliga huvudkaraktärerna eftersträvar att uppnå hegemoniska maskulinitetsideal i olika sociala grupperingar, men att deras framgång i denna strävan skiljer sig, samt att de olika maskuliniteterna samspelar med och påverkar varandra. Utifrån den kulturrelativistiska teorin visar undersökningen att 1950-talets samhälle och värderingar på flera plan avspeglas i karaktärerna och berättelsen som tilldrar sig i Stockholm 1860-1880.

Abstract:
The aim of this essay, As only the deceived one can love, is to investigate the city character in the book Mina drömmars stad (City of dreams) by swedish author Per Anders Fogelström. I will do this by using narratology and making a narrative analysis of the city as a protagonist, with help from Jimmy Vulovic’s Narrativanalys (”narrative analysis”) and Claes Göran Holmberg’s & Anders Ohlssons Epikanalys – En introduktion (”epic analysis – an introduction”). All of these three theorists use the narratological tool-box of Gérard Genette, and I will use his tools in this essay as well. By doing this I will try to point out what this kind of personification of the city does to the story, and how it affects the readers point of view. One of the steps of the narrative analysis is to seek for information about the protagonist in its own environment, to see if there are any hidden clues about the identity of their character. In his book A universe of the mind – A semiotic theory of culture, Jurij M. Lotman writes about the semiosphere of the home, and how the ultimate place to seek for details about someone’s character is in someone’s home environment or surroundings. He demonstrates his thesis by analyzing the meaning of different homes in Michail Bulgakov’s The Master and Margarita. Even if I try to read the city as a main character in City of dreams, it is inevitable that the city is also a stage, a scene and the environment where the story takes place. In the end of my analysis I will look to the environment of the city to try to draw conclusions about who this city of dreams really is.

Abstract:
This thesis examines how working women and women’s work tasks are described in novels by the Swedish author Per Anders Fogelström, and how the portrayal of working women changed during Fogelström’s long period of literary activity. The results show that working women, women’s work tasks and household chores are present in most novels, and that Fogelström had a distinct ability to portray living and working conditions specific for women. However, the narrative is to some extent colored by a male perception. In addition, the development in Fogelström’s portrayal of working women correlates with changes in the field of labor law and questions addresses by the labor movement in Sweden. For instance, the severe tensions between the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO) and the employers’ organizations, and in society at large, in the 1970s are reflected in the tone and content of contemporary novels. In addition, gender inequality are questioned in novels of the 1980s and 1990s, which correlates with the activities of the women rights’ movement in the contemporary context.
