This research paper explores the evolution of Indian folk art as a modern manifestation of prehistoric Indian art. It examines how early humans used pictorial representations as a means of expression in the absence of a written language, leading to the development of various folk art traditions over time. By analyzing prehistoric cave paintings and their transition into established folk art forms such as Madhubani, Warli, Gond, and Bhil paintings, this study highlights the continuity of artistic expression in India. This dramatic shift occurred in response to the rise in Hindu fundamentalism and as way to voice her distress at the violence of the Hindu / Muslim riots. From a eurocentric art-historical perspective, adopting cow-dung to create art may seem like a radical move, but in India it is a material rich in multi layered histories and one resonating with ritual, economic and gendered subtexts and overtones. On one hand, general influences appear as plausible, particularly regarding the adaptation techniques (the ways in which each tradition turns their epic into theater). Therefore, “Greco-Roman motifs” (literary motifs from the Greco-Roman world that would have made it into India) must at least be considered – alongside “Folk motifs” and “Indo-European motifs” – when comparing these literatures. On the other hand, specific borrowings would have also been possible for the adapted elements (the themes coming to the theater from each epic), consideri

If the externality of the instrument disappears, in this virtuosity the foreign instrument appears as a perfectly developed organ of the artistic soul (G.
