Abstract:
The position of sports in relation to the Nordic Bildung tradition (e.g. Folkbildning) has historically been contested. Mainly so because sports were associated with competition and elite thinking in ways that contrast popular educational ideals. The purpose of this study is therefore to analyze what distinguishes the contemporary sports movement in terms of Folkbildning in relation to the pedagogical dilemmas and perspectives expressed by actors within the sports movement. The background to the study is a project initiated by the Swedish Sports Confederation (RF) after internal discussions about Folkbildning in their study association SISU Idrottsutbildarna during 2020. Focus group interviews with 4-7 participants were conducted using Zoom and included seven of SISU’s 19 local districts (altogether 40 informants). All interviews were around one hour long and were recorded and transcribed. The informants were all active in the study association SISU. The results are presented through the following categories: Folkbildning as an association pedagogy and nursery school, Folkbildning as a pedagogical idea beyond the measurable and Folkbildning as a universal pedagogical method. Overall, the study concludes how perceptions of Folkbildning within the sports movement risks being reduced to a method for solving social problems. At the same time, a unique association pedagogy emerges in the material, permeated with holistic educational ideals and where the sports movement on a more comprehensive and societal level contributes to important educational insights.

Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to analyse three case study examples of musical folkbildning in Sweden. The first case study is from the establishment of the state-funded Framnäs Folk High Music School in the middle of the last century. The second case study, Hagström's music education, is from the same time but describes a music school run by a private company. The third case study concerns a contemporary expression of folkbildning, namely hip-hop. The theoretical framework that inspired this article stems from the work of Pierre Bourdieu. The double feature of folkbildning appears in terms of: elitist and democratic tendencies, high and low taste agendas, control and freedom.

Artikeln belyser samverkan mellan sammanslutningar bildade på etnisk grund och folkbildningens studieförbund i Sverige. Engagemang för social inkludering har fått en ökad betydelse för ”invandrarföreningar”. Samtidigt är dessa föreningar inte sällan utsatta för stigmatisering och försatta i en underordnad position. Med utgångspunkt i fältarbete i det mångetniska Stockholm pekar författarna på hur ”invandrarföreningar” har blivit till institutionaliserade samverkansaktörer i nya former av partnerskap (mellan till exempel stat och kommun, frivilligorganisationer och näringsliv) där de har tagit över en rad servicefunktioner i och med välfärdsstatens pågående omvandling. Exemplet samverkan kring folkbildning visar på ett starkt ojämlikt partnerskap mellan ”invandrarföreningar” och studieförbund. Några av de omständigheter som lyfts fram som problematiska är brist på dialog, kulturellt definierade hierarkier mellan ”svenskar” och ”invandrare” och en allt starkare anpassning i förhållande till marknadens krav och förväntningar. ENGELSK ABSTRACT: Magnus Dahlstedt, Aleksandra Ålund, and Anna Ålund: Conditional Partnership: Democracy and Social Inclusion in Relations Between Institutions of Adult Education and Immigrant Associations The authors discuss the cooperation between immigrant associations and public institutions for adult education in Sweden. They emphasize the growing importance of activism for social inclusion among immigrant associations and the stigmatization and subordinate position of these same organizations. Based on empirical case studies from metropolitan Stockholm, the authors argue that these associations have become more or less institutionalized in terms of new partnerships (between state, municipality and volunteer organizations) and have taken over a number of service functions from the retreating welfare state. The authors argue that the partnership in the area of adult education is unequal. They examine problems of this partnership both in terms of lack of dialogue and culturally defi ned hierarchy and in terms of adjustment to market exigency. They do this on the backdrop of the changing institutional system of adult education and its role in the social inclusion of migrants. Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to see if adult education have changed in educational association of the Swedish Labour Movement ABF, and the temperance movement IOGT/NBV. We have chosen to study five periods and analyse these after four ideal of education. These are the ideals of self-education, polytechnic education, neo-classic character-moulding education, and citizenship education. We have studied the reports of the activities of the organisations during the years and the writings of anniversary. The analysis shows that the two popular movements have gone from an adult education where the ideal of citizenship education to an ideal of neo-classic character-moulding education was dominating. The other two ideals ideal are not so frequent as the above mentioned. In this study we also aim to see if there are any social circumstances in Sweden that have affected the organisations. Here we study the report of the popular movement's activity and educational programme, and see if we can find something that can be related to the social circumstances. Regarding this problem we believe that there are some social circumstances, like the two world wars, that have affected the organisations. We has also chosen to see if IOGT/NBV's organisation have been affected by ABF's start. Our conclusion here is that during the period in question we can't see that IOGT/NBV has been affected. The source material was the organisations' reports of the activities during the years and the writings of anniversary.

Denna bok är skriven av en grupp forskare, som på olika sätt studerat olika aspekter av folkbildning. I sitt arbete har var och en blivit förtrogen med de begrepp och företeelser, som vi här riktar ljuset på. Via ett anslag från Vetenskapsrådets Utbildningsvetenskapliga kommitté har vi kunnat samlas kring ett gemensamt tema, som vi valt att kalla mobiliseringsdidaktik. Begreppet är knappast etablerat, men vi har funnit att didaktikens frågor kan vara fruktbara även i ett sådant här sammanhang - den slags folkbildning, som siktar på samhällsförändring. Projektet utgör även ett försök att se didaktiska val som dilemman. Boken har tagit formen av en antologi, där varje författare svarar för de empiriska fall som de studerat och de begreppsliga resonemang, som präglat deras perspektiv. Abstract:
Tolfterna was a popular education organization that existed between 1896 and1964 and that arranged social evenings and set up a library for working women. This thesis purpose is to investigate Tolfternas's activities in 1902-1907 and hereby place Tolfterna in the education- and library history. The thesis examines the library catalog and the protocols from the social evenings and analyses them by means of the popular education ideologies of the early 1900's: Patriarchal education, civic education, self-education and the domestic/housewife ideal.The analysis shows that the organizers of Tolfterna as well as the working women who visited the social evenings had political and social interests. This places Tolfterna in a civic education context.The social evenings contained a mix of politically orientated discussions, traditional lectures and entertainment as music and reading. The library had self-education orientation, it contained mostly fiction and was run by the working women. The non-fiction section contained mainly books about issues discussed at the social evenings such as women’s and worker’s rights, the peace question etc. Tolfternas activities can be described as a mix of civic education and self-education. The domestic/housewife ideal, which was common in popular education for women, is not represented. Tolfterna was a radical organization as they wanted to liberate and support the working women. Meanwhile Tolfterna was a part of patriarchal education since the organizers did not let the working women take active part in the planning of the activities or the development of the organization.

Abstract:
Denna uppsats handlar om folkbildningens särart, vad som gör folkbildning unik, vad som definierar folkbildning som begrepp och koncept. Syftet med studien är att söka efter variation kring vad folkbildning kan uppfattas vara, att göra explicit en annars tyst och oreflekterad kunskap. Uppfattningar hos verksamhetsledare på regional nivå inom studieförbunden i ett regionalt avgränsat område låg som fokus för studien. De teoretiska utgångspunkterna har hämtats från en tolkningstradition och undersökningen har en fenomenografisk ansats. Studien har genomförts genom en kvalitativ intervjustudie av semistrukturerad karaktär. Analysresultaten har genererat fyra kategorier, identitet, form, resultat och process som begreppsnivåer för folkbildningens innebörd. Slutsatsen är att folkbildning delvis definieras av personer utifrån ideologisk bakgrund, utifrån aktuell kontext genom uttryck knutna till analysens fyra kategorier.

Abstract:
This study aims to seek how the librarians interpret the democratic mandate and how they use this in their profession. Jenny Åström made a similar survey in 2012 throughout the whole of Sweden and we are considering if the results have changed over the recent years. Unlike Jenny Åström, who interviewed library staff all over Sweden, we focused on only 2 municipalities. We performed qualitative interviews with 6 librarians who are working on public libraries. We have applied our result both from the information Jenny Åström got on her study and from the model The four spaces, by Skot-Hansen et al. We are also discussing difficulties that can occur in working with the democratic mandate.

AbstractDuring the last refugee wave in the mid-2010s, Sweden received a high proportion of refugees compared to other countries. In connection with this, the debate about the country’s ability to manage the integration of immigrants intensified. The dominant discourse, which also had political repercussions, was that integration has failed. This chapter reflects on immigrants and ‘Swedishness’ in relation to integration, ethnicity and equality. Swedish Popular Adult education, ‘folkbildning’, will be used as an example of a democratic educational environment for collective learning, and as an instrument for successful democratization of the society promoting social cohesion and reducing inequality. The chapter examines the role of education for integration and inclusion, and the questions of who is a Swede, how one becomes a Swede.

Abstract Over the past fifteen years, Hip Hop–based education has gained ground in academic literature, especially so by building on the educational tradition and gospel of Each One Teach One. A contribution to this scholarly discussion is the Scandinavian attempt to analytically tie Hip Hop education to perspectives on learning and pedagogy that traditionally derives from popular movements of the twentieth century. Accordingly, the context of Swedish Hip Hop education takes place within an emancipatory educational tradition called Folkbildning in Swedish (popular education or ‘Nordic Bildung’ internationally). Through linking this educational tradition to empirical examples from previous research, this chapter aims to discuss how Hip Hop education in Swedish educational contexts parallels the essence of the Nordic Bildung practice and philosophy that permeates them. The chapter also discusses ways in which Hip Hop and Each One Teach One invigorates contemporary understandings of Bildung through enabling organic education. Also, the activities themselves, together with the encompassing settings, generate personal cultivation, but also give rise to possibilities for entrepreneurship, mainly in relation to the realm of Swedish welfare state.

Med denna rapport vill vi förmedla hopp till unga, öka kunskapen, med-vetenheten och minska skammen kring psykisk ohälsa. Unga uttrycker själva att de vill ha mer kunskap om psykisk hälsa och skolan lyfts ofta som en bra plattform. Många unga vet inte vart de ska vända sig för att få hjälp med psykiska besvär och de har behov av att bli lyssnade på. När-varande vuxna som lyssnar behövs, dock saknar många vuxna kunskap om psykiska besvär och diagnoser kopplat till psykisk ohälsa.Psykisk hälsa bland unga är en viktig samhällsfråga som de senaste åren har fått mer uppmärksamhet i samhällsdebatten. Flera satsningar har gjorts av civilsamhällesaktörer och offentliga aktörer. Samtidigt visar den internationella kartläggningen att det är svårt att påvisa långsiktiga effek-ter av alla de satsningar som görs. Det kan finnas flera orsaker till detta. Det finns dock insatser som verkar mer lovande och här finns en möjlighet för beslutsfattare att göra skillnad för ungas psykiska hälsa. Förutom att bespara unga onödigt lidande är dessa insatser ofta samhällsekonomisktkostnadseffektiva, eftersom de på sikt leder till minskat vårdsökande och bättre förutsättningar för unga att klara skolan och i förlängningen arbets-livet. Sådana satsningar går även i linje med Barnkonventionen artikel 24 om alla barns rätt till bästa möjliga hälsa, som sedan 2020 är lag i Sverige. Utifrån kartläggningen har vi följande rekommendationer 1. Rusta unga med färdigheter om psykisk ohälsaUnga bör få tillgång till de kunskaper och färdigheter som enligt forsk-ning visat sig lovande för att främja psykisk hälsa och förebygga ohälsa. Internationellt ges flera av dessa insatser inom ramen för sko-lan. De behöver utveckla sina färdigheter i hur man tolkar och förstår sina egna känslor och sin kropp och vad som är vanlig livssmärta, hur man kan hantera den och när man behöver kontakta vården. Därför bör ett nationellt initiativ som når alla barn tas för att främja barn och ungas kunskap och färdigheter om psykisk hälsa för att rusta dem för livet. Det bör även inkludera information om vart man kan vända sig om man behöver ytterligare stöd eller vård. Unga ska vara delaktiga i utformningen av ett sådant initiativ. 2. Ge vuxna kunskap och verktyg om psykisk hälsa – för att underlätta stöd till ungaBarn och unga behöver närvarande vuxna som har förmågan att lyssna, fånga upp och vägleda dem. Det är inte ovanligt att vuxna i barns och ungas närhet upplever osäkerhet och saknar kunskap om psykiska besvär och diagnoser. Därför behöver vuxna, framförallt föräldrar och yrkes-verksamma som jobbar nära unga, få bättre kunskap och verktyg för hur de ska möta unga på ett bättre sätt. Satsningar på att höja föräldrars kun-skap om psykisk hälsa bör göras, exempelvis i form av föräldrastödspro-gram och folkbildning. Lärare bör även ges grundläggande kunskaper om psykisk hälsa inom ramen för lärarutbildningen. 3. Insatser bör följas upp under en längre tidInsatser för att främja psykisk hälsa bör planeras, implementeras och ut-värderas med långtidsuppföljningar (>12 månader). Detta för att bättre kunna bedöma de långsiktiga effekterna och för att kunna utveckla och anpassa insatserna efterhand.
