Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to see if adult education have changed in educational association of the Swedish Labour Movement ABF, and the temperance movement IOGT/NBV. We have chosen to study five periods and analyse these after four ideal of education. These are the ideals of self-education, polytechnic education, neo-classic character-moulding education, and citizenship education. We have studied the reports of the activities of the organisations during the years and the writings of anniversary. The analysis shows that the two popular movements have gone from an adult education where the ideal of citizenship education to an ideal of neo-classic character-moulding education was dominating. The other two ideals ideal are not so frequent as the above mentioned. In this study we also aim to see if there are any social circumstances in Sweden that have affected the organisations. Here we study the report of the popular movement's activity and educational programme, and see if we can find something that can be related to the social circumstances. Regarding this problem we believe that there are some social circumstances, like the two world wars, that have affected the organisations. We has also chosen to see if IOGT/NBV's organisation have been affected by ABF's start. Our conclusion here is that during the period in question we can't see that IOGT/NBV has been affected. The source material was the organisations' reports of the activities during the years and the writings of anniversary.

Denna bok är skriven av en grupp forskare, som på olika sätt studerat olika aspekter av folkbildning. I sitt arbete har var och en blivit förtrogen med de begrepp och företeelser, som vi här riktar ljuset på. Via ett anslag från Vetenskapsrådets Utbildningsvetenskapliga kommitté har vi kunnat samlas kring ett gemensamt tema, som vi valt att kalla mobiliseringsdidaktik. Begreppet är knappast etablerat, men vi har funnit att didaktikens frågor kan vara fruktbara även i ett sådant här sammanhang - den slags folkbildning, som siktar på samhällsförändring. Projektet utgör även ett försök att se didaktiska val som dilemman. Boken har tagit formen av en antologi, där varje författare svarar för de empiriska fall som de studerat och de begreppsliga resonemang, som präglat deras perspektiv. Abstract:

Tolfterna was a popular education organization that existed between 1896 and1964 and that arranged social evenings and set up a library for working women. This thesis purpose is to investigate Tolfternas's activities in 1902-1907 and hereby place Tolfterna in the education- and library history. The thesis examines the library catalog and the protocols from the social evenings and analyses them by means of the popular education ideologies of the early 1900's: Patriarchal education, civic education, self-education and the domestic/housewife ideal.The analysis shows that the organizers of Tolfterna as well as the working women who visited the social evenings had political and social interests. This places Tolfterna in a civic education context.The social evenings contained a mix of politically orientated discussions, traditional lectures and entertainment as music and reading. The library had self-education orientation, it contained mostly fiction and was run by the working women. The non-fiction section contained mainly books about issues discussed at the social evenings such as women’s and worker’s rights, the peace question etc. Tolfternas activities can be described as a mix of civic education and self-education. The domestic/housewife ideal, which was common in popular education for women, is not represented. Tolfterna was a radical organization as they wanted to liberate and support the working women. Meanwhile Tolfterna was a part of patriarchal education since the organizers did not let the working women take active part in the planning of the activities or the development of the organization.

Abstract:

Denna uppsats handlar om folkbildningens särart, vad som gör folkbildning unik, vad som definierar folkbildning som begrepp och koncept. Syftet med studien är att söka efter variation kring vad folkbildning kan uppfattas vara, att göra explicit en annars tyst och oreflekterad kunskap. Uppfattningar hos verksamhetsledare på regional nivå inom studieförbunden i ett regionalt avgränsat område låg som fokus för studien. De teoretiska utgångspunkterna har hämtats från en tolkningstradition och undersökningen har en fenomenografisk ansats. Studien har genomförts genom en kvalitativ intervjustudie av semistrukturerad karaktär. Analysresultaten har genererat fyra kategorier, identitet, form, resultat och process som begreppsnivåer för folkbildningens innebörd. Slutsatsen är att folkbildning delvis definieras av personer utifrån ideologisk bakgrund, utifrån aktuell kontext genom uttryck knutna till analysens fyra kategorier.

Abstract:

This study aims to seek how the librarians interpret the democratic mandate and how they use this in their profession. Jenny Åström made a similar survey in 2012 throughout the whole of Sweden and we are considering if the results have changed over the recent years. Unlike Jenny Åström, who interviewed library staff all over Sweden, we focused on only 2 municipalities. We performed qualitative interviews with 6 librarians who are working on public libraries. We have applied our result both from the information Jenny Åström got on her study and from the model The four spaces, by Skot-Hansen et al. We are also discussing difficulties that can occur in working with the democratic mandate.

Abstract:

The following study aims to investigating the effects of an implemented Folkbildning project in Egypt. The overall goal of the project is to reduce poverty and create development. The aim of the intervention has been to develop and strengthen the civil society in Egypt through the methodology of Scandinavian Folkbildning. The target group has been persons in leading positions within civil society organizations (CSO’s) and the aspiration of the study is to evaluate the fulfillment of the project goals in three areas; Folkbildning’s significance on a personal level, on an organizational level, on a societal level.

The procedure of the study has a qualitative approach with both written and oral (recorded) interviews as sources. These sources have later on been systematized in accordance with the evaluative method called Most Significant Change.

The theoretical starting point of the study is based on the development theory of Inglehart and Welzel where so called action resources constitutes the prerequisites of human development and where development is seen as a movement towards an increasing individual ability of choice. The Folkbildning project comprehends two out of three action resources.

The essay deals with adult education from a local perspective more specifically that ofthe IOGT lodge Leon Garnbetta in Varberg. The material that has been used covers a limited period of time, which stretches from 1883 to 1926.This temperance lodge was founded in 1883 and is still active. The essay provides a historical survey of the temperance movement in Sweden and depicts the ideas behind adult education, but it also gives a more general historical account of the town of Varberg and its popular movements.By studying handwritten records from the lodge it is possible to establish a picture of its work, activities, discussions, its striving for democracy, educational activities and the principles behind these and finally the lodge's own library which was started at an early stage. All these aspects are then treated in a historical and a political context.

Abstract:

Syftet med studien är att beskriva studiecirkeldeltagandets betydelse för individens lärande och hälsa. För att kunna beskriva detta har studien inspirerats av etnografisk metod. Data insamlades under utvärderingen av studiecirkeln Det goda livet, från två studiecirkelgrupper. Det empiriska materialet från den ena studiecirkelgruppen består av elva enskilda intervjuer som genomfördes före och tio efter cirkeldeltagandet samt av fyra observerade studiecirkelträffar. Från den andra studiecirkelgruppen har data insam-lats under en studiecirkelträff samt genom att deltagarna, gemensamt vid detta tillfälle, fick besvara några frågor. Resultatet visar att studiecirkeldeltagarnas och ledarnas förväntningar och cirkelerfaren-heter samt cirkelmiljö och gruppform för studiecirkelgruppen har betydelse för studie-cirkelns genomförande. Oavsett deltagarnas motiv för cirkeldeltagandet har deltagandet haft betydelse för deras lärande och hälsa. Ett lärande som har visat sig som: förvåning, bekräftelse, förändrad handling, förstärkning och eller som att ta till sig boklig kunskap. Detta lärande har inneburit en anpassning utifrån respektive deltagares livsvärld. En livsvärldsanpassning som har betydelse så att deltagarna ska kunna må bättre, ha hälsa i sin vardag. Studiecirkeldeltagandet har, med andra ord, inneburit ett hälsolärande för deltagarna. Det framkommer även att studiecirkelns karakteristika liknar de fem första folkhälso-målen och att cirkelformen är flexibel. Detta innebär att en ideal studiecirkel har en anpassningsförmåga till både det omgivande lokalsamhället och deltagarna. Anpass-ningen har betydelse för cirkeln, deltagarna, lärandet och hälsan, vilket gör det möjligt att påstå att en idealt formad studiecirkel är både lärande och ger hälsa.

Denna uppsats har kommit till för att undersöka vad som diskuterades inom Göteborgs kvinnliga diskussionsklubb och Halmstads kooperativa kvinnogille under perioden 1911-1921. Folkbildningsforskningen har tenderat att utgå från ett klassperspektiv, syftet är därför att göra en undersökning där tonvikten delas av ett genusperspektiv, som stora delar av tidigare forskning negligerat. Men också ett klassperspektiv i jämförelsen mellan de två diskussionsklubbarna. Min studie utgår i huvudsak från två antologier från Mimer som mer eller mindre har ensamrätt på folkbildningsforskningen i Sverige. Huvudslutsatsen som jag med denna studie kan göra är att genusstrukturer i samhället kan likställas med klasskillnader i fråga om vilken betydelse de har för innehållet i diskussionsklubbarna.

Den här studien fokuserar på pedagogiskt ledarskap inom folkbildningen och handlar om att arbeta som rektor på folkhögskola. Studien har genomförts genom kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer med åtta rektorer och det empiriska materialet har därefter analyserats med inspiration av en fenomenografisk metodansats, där analysresultaten har genererat fyra kategorier: Strategen, Kommunikatören, Administratören och Demokraten. Rektorerna beskriver sitt ledarskap, sina utmaningar samt vilket ledarskap de tycker passar på en folkhögskola. Studien visar att kopplingen till folkbildningens fyra syften är central. This thesis explores how introducing intersectional theory to self-identified activists in a Swedish folkbildning context challenges the theory/practice-divide. The study has been carried out through thematically structured discussions with students and teachers at Kvinnofolkhögskolan, Gothenburg, Sweden. In this thesis I argue that the deconstruction of the theory/practice-divide is dependent on perceptions of what theory and practice entails, students’ expectations of Swedish folkbildning in general and Kvinnofolkhögskolan in particular and pedagogical considerations on how to teach intersectionality intersectionally.Additionally, the thesis addresses issues of institutionalization, feminist pedagogy and the broadening of intersectional theory. Finally, the thesis highlights the need for extensively addressing the issue of the theory/practice divide in the curriculum, for students and teachers to discuss what is perceived as theory and practice respectively and for teachers to consider time and place as part of an intersectionally aware pedagogical practice.

Abstract:

The aim of this two-year masters thesis is to look for the Swedish public library´s core business, using theories about competence. The approach is qualitative. It is done by studying the Unesco Public Library Manifesto, the Swedish library legislation, the education in library and information science, two important Swedish library related journals and by asking public librarians about their work and point of view regarding competence. The research shows mainly two sides of the core competence of public librarians: information technology competence and literature knowledge. The conclusion is that the two meet in the idea of mass education, which could therefore be called the Swedish public library´s core business.

Abstract:

Recent papers and bills from the Swedish Government deal with the possibilities of giving all Swedish citizens the possibility of their own creative actlvities in the cultural sector. This work is about where such actlvities shall be placed in order to make them obtainable for all. As an example of creative work this work takes computer-based music-making. At the public library in Odense, Denmark there is a weil functioning sound workshop where the public gets the opportunity of making music with some assistance from the staff. This work shows that also in Sweden the public libraries are the most suitable institutions for placing studies for computer-based music-making for the public depending on the public libraries' traditions in adult education. The conclusion of this investigation is that as soon as possible there should be established studies for computer-based music-making at the public libraries in Sweden.

Abstract:

Denna kandidatuppsats syfte är att analysera svensk bibliotekspolitisk debatt kring årtalen 1912 och 1974. Teori och metod som används vid analysen utgår från diskursteori och diskursanalys. Materialet består i artiklar från tidskrifterna Folkbiblioteksbladet och Biblioteksbladet. Uppsatsen arbetar utifrån antagandet att det kring tiderna vid årtalen 1912 och 1974, inom bibliotekssfären, skett förändringar i föreställningar kring folkbibliotekets roll i samhället. Analysen visar att folkbiblioteksdiskursen vid tiderna kan delas in i två övergripande diskurser: en folkbildningsdiskurs och en kulturförmedlingsdiskurs. Inom dessa två diskurser har det kring tiderna som legat under analys, pågått diskursiva kamper mellan olika läger för att få definiera diskursernas innehåll. Utgångspunkterna för dessa läger ses i ljuset av större samhällskontexter som präglat sin tid även i övrigt.

Abstract:

The case study investigates study association representatives’ perspectives on the activities of the popular education within the social sector in Örebro and why they are organized. It further investigates the cooperation and dialogue between the study associations and the municipality of Örebro regarding this activity. The study is based on critical realism. A questionnaire survey was conducted among all ten study associations in Örebro, combined with qualitative interviews with representatives from six of the active associations. Responses from both studies proofs that all of the study associations are active within the social sector. A significant part of the popular education activities organized by the associations can thus be referred to as social work. These activities are funded by governmental mains in accordance with “The regulation on state aid for popular education”. According to the association representatives there are gaps in the dialogue with the municipality of Örebro, which may be related to occurring changes at the structural level, between the civil society and the public sector. Society, earlier characterized by corporative structures, moves towards a more pluralistic state which changes the conditions for cooperation and dialogue between the public sector and organizations active in the civil society. At the same time, in a neo-liberal spirit, there is a market adjustment of the popular education, which changes the conditions for the study associations, the necessity and demand for social work-like activities at within popular education increases.

Abstract:

Inom SISU Idrottsutbildarna diskuterades cirkelledarrollen intensivt under 2005. Ett stort antal personer inom organisationen hade åsikter om hur det förhöll sig med cirkelledarnas kompetens och utbildning. Det visade sig att ingen egentligen visste då det inte fanns några undersökningar gjorda inom området. I detta skede bestämde jag mig för att ta reda på mer om cirkelledarnas kompetens och vilka behov som de själva upplevde sig ha när det gäller kompetensutveckling. För att besvara frågeställningarna genomfördes en enkätundersökning som förmedlades ut till 75 cirkelledare i Kronobergs län. Svarsfrekvensen blev 46 enkäter, 61%. I uppsatsens bakgrund behandlas folkbildningens historia, studiecirkelns uppkomst, pedagogisk metod och regler inom folkbildningen. De teoretiska utgångspunkterna delades in i två avsnitt, bildning och kompetens. Resultatet av undersökningen visar att de flesta av SISU:s cirkelledare är kompetenta för sitt uppdrag. De har en god kännedom om folkbildningen och dess metoder. De träffar som de genomförde bygger i hög grad på den ursprungliga tanken med folkbildningen, att människor möts, samtalar och lär av varandra i grupp. Många av dem har varit cirkelledare i flera år och i ett flertal cirklar varje år. 60% av cirkelledarna i undersökningsgruppen har genomgått en cirkelledarutbildning hos SISU. Cirkelledarna ansåg sig ha behov av kompetensutveckling i ämnena pedagogik och ledarskap för att kunna genomföra sitt uppdrag bättre. Cirkelledarna ansåg att det är inom dessa områden som SISU bör erbjuda kompetensutveckling.

Abstract:

Jag har jobbat med att skapa en miljö som jag kallar ”interaktivt suburban”. En ganska klassiskförortstypologi men med offentliga rum. Jag har ritat fem bostadshus som ligger på en höjd i en fåramellan Tyresö centrum, en skola och ett bostadsområde. Här finns närhet till många sporthallar ochidrottsplatser. Förutom bostäder kommer här finnas projekthallar/eventspace och inrymda/programmerade i husens bottenplan, som jag tänker att skolan, de boende och privatagallerier/företag kan utnyttja. Ett slags centrum för folkbildning, skapande och kultur. Formerna ärgenerella men kan inhysa många funktioner. Bostäderna är inspirerade av retro funkisarkitektur. Jaghar jobbat med gamla rumssamband och förnyat vissa delar av bostaden, framförallt köken ochbadrummen. En del dimensioner har krympt och därför är takhöjden i rummen högre för attkompensera. På båda sidor av vägen/husen finns möjlighet att odla, leka och ha fest. Tomten är kraftigtterrasserad åt öst. Här ligger även ett boendeparkeringshus. Målet är att locka Tyresöborna tillbakatill förorten eller att det i alla fall ska finnas attraktiva boenden för dem att flytta tillbaka till, efter attde som unga vuxna kanske bott i innerstan. Förhoppningen blir att eventspacen kommer skapa liv iområdet även på kvällarna. Generatorer för detta bygge har vart punkthus från 70-talet,planlösningar från 40-talet och samtiden när det kommer till offentliga rummet ochmarkbehandlingen. Jag har plockat bland referenser inom svensk 1900-talsarkitektur i processen.Ambitionen är att skapa en dynamik i sovstaden.
I have tried to create an environment that I call “interactively suburban”. A classic suburban typologybut with public rooms. I have designed five residential building located on a hill in a furrow betweenTyresö center, a school and a residential area. It offers proximity to many sports halls and sportsfields. In addition to housing, I’ve drawn projects halls and event spaces programmed into thebuildings' ground floor. I think that the school, residents and private galleries / businesses can utilizethese. A kind of center for adult and child education, job creation and culture. The shapes are generalbut can accommodate many functions. The homes are inspired by retro functionalist architecture. Ihave worked with old room connections and renewed some parts of the home, especially kitchensand bathrooms. Some dimensions have shrunk and therefore are cathedral ceilings in the roomshigher to compensate. (2.70 ) The open plan onto the street in front of the houses are framed by aforested steeply down to the school and the football field. A plan is built against the peasant way sobuildings will have a connection to the street. On both sides of the road / houses there is theopportunity to grow seeds, play and have fest. The site is heavily terraced to the east where I’ve alsolocated a resident’s car park. The goal is to attract Tyresö residents back to the suburbs or that in allcases there should be attractive places for them to move back to, after that those who are youngadults might have lived in the inner city. The hope is that the event spaces will create life in the areaeven in the evenings. Generators for these buildings are tower blocks from the 70s, floor plans fromthe 40's and the present when it comes to public space and soil treatment. I have picked amongreferences in Swedish 1900s architecture in the process. The ambition is to create a dynamic in thebedroom community.

It deals with the question how the professional script writer, actor and process leader, harbored in one person, are identified and refined, and also how they intervene and interact to contribute to the professional and private identity of the professional subject. A seemingly undramatic and ordinary incident at the execution of a theater mission including a succeeding interactive seminar raises reactions in the professional subjects. The essay will, from a subjective, first person´s perspective on those reactions reflect on the motives and the ambitions of the professional actor, script writer and process leader in assignment based, work related theater. The essay´s reasoning leads up to freedom as the driving force for the professional in the different roles, as well as for the individual who harbors them.

The theme of this essay is the principle of free access to the Swedish Public Libraries, and its aim is to fmd out the opinion of adult visitors of such libraries as regards the introduction of fees on the borrowing of books, already existing fees such as reservation fees, charges for interlibrary loans and charges for the late return of books.The main part of our survey comprises questionnaires that were handed out to 100 visitors at the Norrkoping City Library and 100 visitors at the Eskilstuna City and Provincial Library. In order to illustrate the fee problem from another angle, interviews with staff people from the two libraries were carried out A large part of the essay consists of material aiming to give a general picture of the subject, e.g. how the "free of charge principle" is tied to the Swedish library system, what arguments have been presented to maintain or reverse this principle, and a comparison of the relative situation in other countries. As the conception of popular education is so basic for the "free of charge principle", we also account for the idea of popular education.The result of our questionnaire shows, among other things, that 60,9% cannot consider paying for any of the free services offer by the libraries today, 21,3% answered that they could possibly consider paying for some of the services and 17,8% answered that they didn't know. 76% would rather pay for a library card than stop borrowing books altogether.

Abstract:

This thesis is a qualitative study of "Bryggan" ("The Bridge"), a three-year co-operation project between the public library and different associations in Vastervik. The aim of the project was to find new forms for co-operation, which could help both parts in their marketing. "Bryggan" is characterized as an action-related research project, where experiences from the work have been evaluated regularly and have been incorporated to the following process. A study of literature, dealing with adult education activities, developing activities, library extension and democracy, gives the theoretical basis both to the project and to the thesis. The case study describes the different kinds of co-operation during the three years, both with the associations and with other groups and institutions involved. A qualitative interview study was made with five library employees and five association members. After having participated in the "Bryggan" project and analysed the interviews, I assert that it is possible to change and develop the activities of the public library through a purposeful collaboration with different associations.

Abstract:

The purpous of this master’s thesis is to explore how the swedish public library evolved between 1890-1911, before the state implemented the library reform in 1912. The material used to cunduct the study concists mainly of texts published during the time frame of the thesis in the form of books, booklets and articles from Folkbiblioteksbladet, a journal dedicated to the subject of the swedish public library. Drawing upon Habermas theory of the structural transformation of the public sphere and Bourdieus theories about taste as social distinction and symbolic capital, the thesis seeks to show how the public participated in the evolvement of the public library and which aspects of society that contributed to the public library’s establishment as an institution. The findings are also discussed in relation to previous research of the history of the Swedish public library. In summary, the study shows that the public library evolved as part of a larger aim to educate the masses with help from what was seen as ”good” litterature. It also shows that even though the higher classes decided the premisses for public education and the public library, some of the ideas were shared by the working class despite their different political goals.

Syftet med studien var att med fokus på en allmän kurs med musikinriktning belysa folkhögskoledeltagares förståelse för musik som aktivitet och fenomen. Utifrån en kvalitativ ansats inom ramen för en hermeneutisk forskningstradition intervjuades sex respondenter för att undersöka om deras tidigare erfarenheter av samt deras nuvarande syn på musik kunde leda till förståelse inom sammanhang som låg utanför musiken. Resultatet visade att musik är ett utmärkt instrument med vilket man kan förstå och tolka sin omvärld. Respondenter som utvecklas i musik upplever att de också utvecklar andra egenskaper, som förståelse för sig själva, förståelse för andra samt en djupare förståelse för vad som menas med kunskap. En förutsättning för detta är dock att intresset för musiken är väldigt stort samt att intresset inte leder till ett avskärmande från omvärlden. Insikten i den egna musikaliska utvecklingen likställs i denna uppsats med en insikt i ett bildningstänkande som dock aldrig uttrycks explicit av respondenterna. Ingen av dessa har någon egentlig uppfattning om begreppet bildning men deras förståelse för musik gör att de förstår dess innebörd, såsom formulerad av forskare och folkbildare. Om man ser musiken som en tillgång inom folkbildningen är det viktigt att dess förtjänster lyfts fram mer och inte förblir tyst eller tystad kunskap. Detta skulle folkbildare, deltagare och folkbildningen i längden vinna på.

Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka om, och i så fall hur folkhögskolans huvudman

påverkar skolans musiklinjer. Centralt i studien är huvudmännens ideologiska grundsyn eller

avsaknaden av den samme. Alla folkhögskolor står under en huvudman och det är en viktig

parameter för folkhögskolornas existens. Huruvida huvudmännens ideologiska grundsyn

kommer till uttryck och påverkar folkhögskolor har debatterats hårt i folkhögskolans historia.

Däremot är forskningen kring ämnet mycket begränsad vilket har gjort arbetet med studien

extra spännande. För att undersöka hur det ser ut i dag har vi besökt fyra svenska

folkhögskolor med olika huvudmän. Vi samtalade med en musiklärare från varje skola samt

respektive skolas rektor. Efter att vi samlat in data tolkar vi informanternas svar och ställer

dem mot varandra. Vi kommer fram till två centrala begrepp i vårt resultat, den uttalade

profilen och de dolda huvudmannakraven. Av stor vikt i studien är den underliggande

förhållningen vi tolkar att våra informanter har gentemot respektive sin huvudman. Slutligen

diskuterar vi de konsekvenser som huvudmannens ideologi får på musiklinjerna.

Abstract:

The aim of this master's thesis is to examine whether librarians working in public libraries see fiction as a source of knowledge, and what role this plays in the educational mission of the public library. This investigation, which consists of a literary study and an empirical section, shows that the concept of phronesis denotes practical wisdom and moral thinking, and that it can be applied to that form of knowledge to which reading can contribute. An important issue in this context is the reader's motivation to learn. The interviews show that librarians see literature as a source from which knowledge can be drawn. When they mediate literature, they believe that they are conveying something of value and they set great store in mediating literature which could have a not inconsiderable import to the borrowers. However, they do not naturally consider what they do as mediating knowledge. The literary studies and the empirical research show that there is a strong connection between the concept of adult education and literature, while the term lifelong learning is now used by people working in public libraries instead of adult education. The concept of lifelong learning connects the informants primarily with work that is directed to adults who are studying. This causes uncertainty as to whether they are actually working with adult education at all. However, public librarians mediate in a way that is considered to be a part of the tradition in adult education. They have a down-up perspective that includes respect for and belief in the abilities of the individual.

Nyckelkurs på folkhögskola för personer med långvarig smärta startade som ett samarbetsprojekt mellan Landstinget i Kalmar län och folkhögskolorna i länet. Denna studie undersöker kursens betydelse för deltagarnas liv med frågor om vad det betytt att smärtkursen förlagts till just folkhögskola. Tio personer har svarat på frågor om sitt liv med smärta och om hur det varit att delta i smärtkursen. En djupintervju med halvöppna frågor med en av dessa tio har fördjupat materialet. Metoden är kvalitativ med hermeneutisk tolkning som analysverktyg.

Resultatet av studien visar att deltagare i smärtkursen har gått igenom en process där det vanliga livet förändrats av smärtan som tvingat fram en omställning av det liv man tidigare levt. Studien visar att smärtkursens upplägg utifrån problembaserat lärande med bl.a. samtal och erfarenhetsutbyte i grupp gett positivt resultat för kursens en väsentlig faktor för resultatet.

The point of departure for this thesis was an article written by Christer Hermansson (2008). He thinks that librarians, following the development of Library 2.0 and the change of public libraries, have strayed away from what he believes should be the focus of the library: Literature. The aim of this thesis is to study how librarians in six Swedish libraries perceive their occupational roles. How does the increased user control, which is seen as part of Library 2.0, affect the tasks of libraries and librarians? The material used in this study was acquired using a qualitative interview technique in which six librarians working in public libraries with experience of IT, mediation and purchase of literature partook. The interviews were analyzed by comparing the empirical material to theories of librarian models (Klasson 1991) respectively Community of practices (Sundin 2003). The results showed that there are different conceptions among the participating librarians regarding whether their occupation roles and the public library activity has changed/been affected by Library 2.0. Some librarians thought that the occupation role has changed, but not because of 2.0. Others meant that the core of the occupation role has not been changed; they use old working methods in new ways. It´s still too early to tell how the development of Library 2.0 will affect libraries and the tasks of librarians, the technology has not developed far enough yet in most Swedish public libraries.

Syftet med rapporten var att beskriva varför idrottsföreningar inte internutbildar sina ledare. Vidare syftade rapporten till att analysera vilka faktorer i det befintliga samarbetet mellan idrottsföreningarna och SISU idrottsutbildarna som gjorde att samarbetet fortsatte samt att analysera vilka avgörande faktorer som gjorde att idrottsföreningarna avstod från ett samarbete med dem. I resultatet visade det sig att några av föreningarna inte hade tillräcklig kunskap om vad SISU idrottsutbildarnas arbete gick ut på, andra faktorer såsom avstånd till utbildningar, ovilja från ledarnas sida, glömska och ett bristande engagemang från SISU idrottsutbildarnas sida, var avgörande då föreningarna avstod från ett samarbete med dem. De som har eller har haft ett samarbete med organisationen tycker att den personliga kontakten är viktig för att samarbetet skall fortsätta. Fördelarna med samarbetet har varit de resurspengar som klubben tillgår via lärcirklarna. Vidare är den vetenskapliga kunskap som ledare och adepter kan tillgå i form av kurser, föreläsningar, lärcirklar, böcker och andra arrangemang inom SISU idrottsutbildarna oerhört uppskattad.

Flera studier visar att det tillitsfulla mötet är viktigt inom folkbildningen, men hur skapas det i det digitala rummet? Studien syftar till att bidra med kunskap om strategier och pedagogiska praktiker som stärker det tillitsfulla mötet och skapar en lärmiljö där deltagarna kan vara öppna, dela sina erfarenheter och lära av varandra i nätbaserade kurser. Undersökningen har inspirerats av en designbaserad forskningsmetod. Sju kursledare som arbetar med nätbaserade kurser i ett studieförbund har deltagit i samtal, reflektion och testat olika pedagogiska strategier och praktiker i sin verksamhet. Studien tyder på att det går att skapa tillitsfulla möten även i grupper som inte mötts tidigare och som bara möts under en kort tid. En förutsättning är dock social och pedagogisk närvaro och att kursledaren investerar tid och energi samt arbetar medvetet för att skapa en grupp och ett öppet klimat.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka hur körsångare upplever sitt sjungande och varför de vill sjunga i kör. Syftet är även att undersöka om körsångarna medvetet sjunger i kör för de positiva effekterna som kunnats visas i tidigare forskning. Metod för denna undersökning har varit semistrukturerade och ostrukturerade intervjuer med sex informanter samt observation av en kör på 30 personer.Resultaten visade att det inte går att säga att man som amatörsångare alltid sjunger i kör för den sociala gemenskapen, och de positiva effekter som kan uppstå i samband med körsång. Genom undersökningen har jag heller inte kunnat se att körsångare alltid upplever dessa positiva effekter av att sjunga i kör. Slutsatsen är att alla människor, oavsett om de sjunger i amatörkör eller avancerad kör kan få ut olika hälsoeffekter av att delta i körsång Det går inte att säga att alla amatörsångare får ut en likartad hälsoeffekt och professionella sångare en annan hälsoeffekt, utan deras upplevelser av hälsoeffekt skiljer sig från person till person.

Abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to investigate, analyse and interpret the educational ideals of the ABF (Workers Educational Association) as they are understood by five members within ABF. The paper also examines how the educational ideals are represented in the national guidelines and statues of the ABF. The basic theoretical perspectives are intercultural theory and theories about Bildung and adult liberal education in a multi-cultural pedagogical environment presented by Bernt Gustavsson and Hans Lorentz respectively. The empirical study consists of five semi-structured interviews and a text study of the official documents of the ABF. The data is interpreted with hermeneutic and semiotic tools. Organisational theory focusing on organizational culture has also contributed to the study. The result of the study, when analysed in accordance to the methods, shows mainly four things. Firstly, the educational ideals within the contemporary ABF are the self-educational ideal and the civic educational ideal. Secondly, the analysis of contemporary society identifies social class as the main category of injustice with sex/gender ethnicity, disability, sexuality and age as subcategories. Thirdly, there is a lack of influence for people with a foreign background in the ABF. Fourthly, the ABF can make another world possible if the organisation consciously recruits people with a foreign background, is culturally aware when applying concepts, makes sure that the education emanates from every single participant, fights against stereotypes and builds networks. One of the main conclusions I draw from this study is that popular education within the ABF can promote learning of Intercultural competence but there is an uncertainty about where the organisation will go towards a universalistic or a particularistic direction. There is also a lack of discrepancy between the written policy and the actual practice.

Abstract:

This qualitative discourse analysis examines the way in which the state’s intervention in issues concerning the public library in Sweden is depicted before the establishment of said institution, and more spefically during the years 1898 to 1903. The general aim of said analysis is to act as a kind of balance to the prevailing representation of the public library as an altogether democratic institution. In summary the public library is presented in the source material as being the solution to an array of societal issues. The background to these matters is furthermore explored to some extent. Among these, pulic library initiatives as one of the components in a larger popular education project can be mentioned. The further goal of this project is in turn to produce a more effective workforce and thereby strengthen the competetivness of the nation’s industries, as well as to function as an intrument for social integration, pacification of the working class, and development of a civic subject position. The theoretical approach has been composed of a number of various orientations. What can be said to be the common denominator of these, is the point of departure in historical materialism, as well as to some extent an understanding of the relation between state and civil society as being integrated in each other, rather than separated by a distinct boundary. In short the study concludes that the subsidization of public libraries by the state constitutes part of the transition from the an industrial capitalism, to that of an organized such. This change is pursued by efforts towards conjuring a mobilization behind the national project, and the strengthening of the nation’s industries in relation to international competition. Simultaneously a form of renegotiation of the social contract takes place, in which the cultivation of the subject position of the citizen as an alternative to that of the class-related subject can be said to be a crucial component. Altogether the long-term purpose of said activities can be interpreted as ways of suppressing an open class conflict, and turning it into a latent one. The public library is presented as a significant component in said process, since it contributes to an increase in the general level of education, an experience of national affinity and participation, as well as a concession to demands for social reforms.

Abstract:

Syftet med denna uppsats är att analysera på vilket sätt politiska ideologier kommer till uttryck i texter producerade av ABF och Medborgarskolan. Detta med utgångspunkt i vad jag upplever som oklara förhållanden rörande vilken betydelse ideologier i praktiken spelar för dessa studieförbund. I uppsatsen undersöks vilka ideologier som går att urskilja i två texter från ABF respektive Medborgarskolan, samt hur dessa ideologier uttrycks språkligt. Även två motsvarande texter från ett tredje studieförbund – Folkuniversitet – analyseras. Uppsatsen utgår såväl teoretiskt som metodologiskt från Norman Faircloughs kritiska diskursanalys. Analysen kompletteras även med en ideationell SFL-analys. Resultatet visar att ABF och Medborgarskolan grundar sig i samma folkbildningsdiskurs, men medan ABF-texterna är starkt präglade av en socialdemokratisk diskurs så består Medborgarskolans texter av en interdiskursiv blandning av folkbildnings-, borgerlig-, humanistisk- och positiv säljdiskurs. Avslutningsvis kopplas dessa resultat till den övergripande sociala praktik som studieförbunden är en del av.

Abstract:

The aim of this Master’s thesis is to investigate and increase the understanding of Swedish Public Library Websites and to determinate which activity they mediate. To analyse the Public Library Websites Andersson and Skot-Hansen’s model of roles for the Public Library has been used. This model in¬cludes four roles for the library: the library as a cultural centre, a knowledge centre, as an information centre and as a social centre. The questions examined are: - How do the public libraries occur on their websites? - How do the functions of cultural, knowledge, information and social centre occur on the Library Websites? The Method used for the studies is observation using as a tool a scheme consisting of the four roles in Andersson/Skot-Hansen’s model. The main findings are: - The social aspects of the Web have to be used in order to accomplish what the Library Law demands. - The Public Library Websites focuses on their catalogues and the activity of the physical Public Library. – The Websites is far from realizing the Library 2.0 vision as they offer no or inactive communication. –Websites which does not contain its own material works mainly as an advertisement for the Public Library. -The commitment to the websites of the community is a problem for the public libraries ambition to connect with patrons in new ways. -Even though aspects of all four roles in Anderson/Skot-Hansen’s model can be found on the Websites, these roles are still far from being central for the activity on the Public Library Websites.

The paper is a research of"The Library project", a three-year collaboration project betweenArbetarnas Bildningsforbund, Studieförbundet Vuxenskolan, Sveriges Författarförbund and public libraries at 14 places in Sweden.The goal of the project is to find new forms for collaboration between libraries, authors and organisations for adult eduacation under the motto "two branches of the same education tree".The purpose of this research is to make a close description of the project and also look at the goals anf purposes of the different actors in the project. The main thought is that the different goals and purposes have caused at least some of the problems in the project.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis examines the library as a public sphere in the notion of Jürgen Habermas’ theory from 1962. The questions asked concerns how the public sphere is discussed in relation to Swedish public libraries today in our late modern society. The analyzed material consists of the Swedish Cultural Bill of 2009 and five qualitative interviews with librarians. The material is analyzed with two of the four social actions presented by the sociologist Maw Weber: value-rational and instrumental. The Cultural Bill handles the importance of public spheres in society, but does not recognize the possibility of public libraries as functioning as such. The interviewed librarians stress this function, but points out the problems in using it as an economic legitimizer of the institution. The difference between the perceived role of the public libraries in the statements from the librarians and the cultural bill probably explains the ambiguity in the librarians’ statements. There is a problem when the more abstract values of the libraries are not recognized in the cultural policy of today. The solution presented in the thesis accede the ongoing LIS research in the emphasis on the need of a more extensive definition of the library as a public sphere.

Abstract:

The concept of reflection expressed as different types of thinking is explicitly given an essential role in specific strands of international discourses on lifelong learning and education. Meanwhile, some researchers consider reflection problematic and point to the lack of consensus on its meaning in theory and practice. Assuming that there are varied conceptualizations and that arguments for learning of reflective skills are deemed sound, it follows that it would be especially meaningful to find out how professionals responsible for educational practices understand the concept. As this kind of research appears scarce in adult education, an exploration may contribute to knowledge underlying what teachers do ‘in the name of reflection’. The pedagogy in Swedish popular education is of special interest as it ideally centers adults' participation and reflection with others to facilitate learning. Furthermore, the curriculum is not regulated in law which may indicate a wide variety of interpretations of the teaching mission including its key concepts. Therefore, the aim of this phenomenography inspired study is to identify the variation in folk high school teachers’ (n=7) conceptions of reflection in Swedish popular education. Based on analysis of semi-structured interviews, it is argued that the results in some sense broaden the understanding of reflection in revealing three different categories of descriptions. These categories are; reflection as a process fostering understanding of experiences, reflection as a tool facilitating learning and development, and reflection as a pedagogy enacting ideals of popular education and emancipation. On basis of the theoretical idea that teachers’ thought is important to and influence their professional action, the potential influences of these varying conceptualizations on folk high school teachers’ professional practice are elucidated.

Denna rapport går igenom processen av att skapa ett säljande koncept och förklarar hur man genom att ta ett steg ut ur en organisations trygghetszon kan locka nya besökare och intressenter. I det här examensarbetet har vi skapat ett marknadsförandekoncept för Studiefrämjandets ledarutbildningar. Uppdraget var att väcka ett större intresse kring utbildningarna och verktygen vi har använt oss av är digitala medier. Tillsammans med en kortfilm har vi skapat en prototyp till ett modulverktyg som i kombination med filmen fungerar som en inspirationsplats för ledarutbildningarna. Modulen som helhet har tre uppgifter; att inspirera, att motivera och att uppmana till handling. Filmen är inspirationen som skapar ett intresse hos besökaren. Motivationen till att ta steget till att agera är modulens deltagarberättelser och genom att ha ett tydligt bokningsverktyg ska användaren enkelt kunna agera och söka utbildningen.
This paper focuses on the process of creating a selling concept and examines how toattract new participants after taking a step out of an organisations comfort zone. In this thesis work we have created a marketing concept for Studiefrämjandet’s leadership courses. The mission was to increase the interest for the course and the tool we have used to achive that is digital media. Along with a short film, we have also created a prototype for a website implement that is to work as an inspirational place for the course. This website implement has three objectives; To inspire, to motivate, and to exhort to action. The short film is the inspiration that creates interest among the visitors. The motivation is created thanks to short storys from former participants, and a calender creates an easy-to-use booking tool where users can apply for the course.

Abstract:

Med bakgrund i att samhället blir allt mer digitaliserat är studiens syfte att undersöka bibliotekariers upplevelser av kommunikation med biblioteksbesökare och sin folkbildande roll. Fokus för studien är bibliotekariernas egen upplevelse vilket resulterat i att en kvalitativ metod med intervjuer har använts. Studiens resultat visar att bibliotekarier upplever att kommunikation och ett gott bemötande är av stor vikt, både i det fysiska och det digitala rummet. Bibliotekarier upplever även att de har relevant kompetens för yrket, men att grundutbildningen saknar ämnesområden som pedagogiskt bemötande och IT. Studiens resultat visar även att bibliotekarier upplever att de kontinuerligt måste hålla sig ajour inom IT och de upplever att en alltmer digitaliserad biblioteksverksamhet bidrar till att den digitala delaktigheten bland medborgarna ökar i samhället. Studiens bidrag till forskningen resulterar i en förståelse för hur folkbiblioteken, som en mötesplats samt en plats för informations- och kunskapsinhämtning, samspelar med medborgarna i samhället.
Given that society is becoming increasingly digital, this studies’ purpose is to examine librarian’s experiences of communication with library visitors and their educational role. The focus of the study is on the librarian’s own experience therefore a qualitative method with interviews has been used. The results of the study show that librarian’s feel that communication and a welcoming approach are of great importance, both in the physical and the digital space. Librarian’s also feel that they have relevant skills for the profession, but that undergraduate education lacks subject areas such as pedagogical approach and IT. The results of the study also show that librarian’s feel that they continually must keep up to date with IT and they feel that an increasingly digital library activity contributes to the digital participation among citizens increasing in society. This studies’ contribution to research results in an understanding of how public libraries, as meeting place and a place for information and knowledge gathering, interact with the citizens in society.

Abstract:

Den här avhandlingen syftar till att utveckla kunskap om lärande på den lokala nivån inom fackföreningsrörelsen. Det är en etnografisk beskrivning och analys av hur en fackföreningsstyrelse på en arbetsplats hanterar vardagens fackliga arbete och de krav på lärande som det innebär. I studien undersöks förutsättningarna för en nytillträdd och oerfaren facklig styrelse. Utifrån ett sociokulturellt perspektiv på lärande beskrivs och analyseras det fackliga styrelsearbetet under tre år, de olika utvecklingsprocesser detta genererar samt hur fackliga aktiviteter och processer samspelar med hur styrelseledamöternas deltagande och den fackliga praktiken förändras. Att det saknas facklig erfarenhet och kunskap på arbetsplatsen har betydelse för den nya styrelsens förutsättningar för lärande. Studien visar att styrelseledamöternas definition av situationen är avgörande för inriktningen på styrelsearbetet. I studien identifieras tre kvalitativt olika perioder av fackligt arbete och lärande: revolutionen, nybygget och reträtten. Styrelsens kontakter med fackföreningsrörelsen utanför den lokala arbetsplatsen har en avgörande betydelse - särskilt hur ledamöterna använder fackföreningsrörelsens samlade erfarenheter, kunskaper och resurser som källa till lärande. Hur styrelsearbetet fördelas inom styrelsen och tillsammans med andra inom fackförbundet (fackliga kollegor, ombudsmän, medlemmar) visar sig också ha betydelse för det lärande som uppstår inom och utanför den lokala styrelsen. Studien visar att det finns omfattande krav på den lokala styrelsens förmåga att hantera det lokala fackliga arbetet och att självständigt hantera de krav på lärande som det innebär. Utifrån de omständigheter som studien synliggör hävdas att detta är ett överkrav på lokala fackliga styrelser i den mening att man inte på egen hand förmår skapa den kunskap som ger makt att hantera alla viktiga frågor som samtidens arbetsliv ger upphov till. I studien framförs att det krävs förändringar inom fackföreningsrörelsen för att ändra villkor och förutsättningar för lokalt fackligt arbete, lärande och kunskapsutveckling. Makt, kunskap och lärande hänger ihop.
The trade union at the local workplace is considered the most important arena for developing the strength of trade unions. Contemporary changes in working life mean new challenges to the trade union, and especially to the local trade union units at the workplaces. Learning is needed to maintain the strength and the capacity of the trade unions. Local trade union boards and representatives are expected to have the capability to learn on their own. The aim of this study is to investigate learning within a local trade union board at a workplace. An ethnographic study of an inexperienced trade union board has been carried out during three years. A sociocultural perspective is used to analyse the trade union board’s work, the learning processes that are generated and how the board members’ participation and pracitice are changed. From a pragmatist perspective the local trade union board’s attempts to deal with everyday challenges are interpreted as solving problems. It is shown that the board’s different ways of defining the situation are of significant importance. Three qualitative different phases of the local trade union board practice have been identified: the revolution, the renewal and the retreat. The investigation shows the importance of access to and use of the sociocultural knowledge and resources outside the local trade union. The board’s members’ definitions of the situation are influenced by the trade union experience and knowledge that they appropriate in participating in other trade union practices. The study also shows the importance of how the trade union work is distributed as it generates different learning processes according to how duties are divided. Solving problems together with trade union members at the workplace and together with other trade union practices shape learning processes in other communities of the trade union movement. The results of the study indicate that the demands on learning put on the local trade union boards are too overpowering. The local trade union boards cannot be expected to, on their own, develop the knowledge and the power that are needed to tackle the everyday challenges at the workplace. Local trade union learning is a matter to the trade union movement as a whole. Power, knowledge and learning are interdependent.
