Full textInhibition is a cognitive function characterized by specific inhibitory processes. It can be distinguished a so-called perceptual inhibition (PI), responsible for inhibiting of irrelevant stimuli, from a so-called motor inhibition (MI), in charge of the suppression of inappropriate motor responses. In this context, this thesis raised two major issues concerning the PI and MI processes, by using the reaction time conflict tasks designed by Nassauer & Halperin (2003). Firstly, we tested the robustness of original results underlying the theoretical independence of PI and MI processes. Whatever the experimental complexity (seated vs. standing position, responses with hands vs. feet, with vs. without localized vibrations), the results (3 studies / 200 subjects) confirmed the independence of PI vs. MI processes in young adults. Secondly, we examined in healthy older adults the possible role of PI in the integration process of proprioceptive inputs essential for efficient postural performance. The results (3 studies / 100 subjects) showed altered inhibitory performances while performing dynamic and static postural tasks in older adults. But no specific inhibitory control of the imposed proprioceptive perturbation (i.e., vibrations) was shown. The discussion is structured around issues of the agerelated decline of proprioceptive sensitivity and the high attentional load associated with the tasks in older adults. Finally, this work opens theoretical and clinical perspectives which could allow for a better characterization of PI and MI processes, such as agerelated discrimination of these specific inhibitory capacities

Full textMy thesis is about emotional consciousness and its function in autism. The main hypothesis is about the particularities of autistic people’s own emotions: autistic people would mainly have a “cognitive access’ to the consciousness of their emotions while neurotypical people’s emotional consciousness would appear thanks to phenomenal data. A secondary hypothesis is about the relationship between these particularities and the particularities of emotional lives of autistic people: the particularity of emotional consciousness would foster anxiety, alexithymia, and emotional dysregulation, which are observed in autism. It would also be the source of particularities of emotion recognition in autism. The first chapter presents the results of studies in psychology about emotion particularities in autism. Chapter 2 and 3 give operational definitions of “consciousness” and “emotions”. The last chapter proposes an interpretation of the results of chapter 1, in the light of the terminological distinctions given in chapter 2 and 3. This interpretation is the main hypothesis just mentioned: neurotypical people’s emotions access consciousness above all and most of the time thanks to a phenomenal access, that is to say that the subjective components of emotions access consciousness. In autism, it is rather a cognitive access mode that allows their emotions to access consciousness: objective and descriptive components access consciousness

Full textThe objective of this study is to participate in search of a coherent theoretical foundation of cognitive and emotional psychotherapies, to increase their efficiency in the treatment of the anxio-depressive disorders. With the aim of studying the efficiency of the schemas therapy, in particular, early maladaptive schemas, we showed that a resistant anxio-depressive patients, the anxious and depressive components are related to the activation of some of the early maladaptive schemas described by Young (1995). The use of its schemas-focused therapy decreases strongly and significantly the levels of anxiety and depression. So, the evolution of the anxio-depressive disorder seems related to the anxious components (4 schemas), and the others in the depressive component (7 schemas), and the others else in both at the same moment (3 schemas) ; and schemas are related neither to the one, nor to the order one (5 schemas)

Full textThe physiological effects of prolonged exercise of moderate intensity are well known. On the opposite, few studies have focused on the effects of matabolic and neurophysiological modifications on central nervous sustem working and on cognitive function. The aim of thie work was to test the hypthesis always suggested but rarely validated that the modification of the physiological state by prolonged exercise affect information processins afficiency. Ours results confirm, for duration's inferiors to one hour, the positive effects of exercise and validate the empiric idea observed experimentally of an alteration capacities of subjects for exercise duration exceeding 2 hours. Further studies, in particular in animal model, are necessary to evaluate the respective influence of certain cerebral neurotransmitters in cognitive fatigue processes

Full textThe purpose of this thesis is to study the reasons why physical activities (PA) are important among paraplegics subjects (PS). This work is based on studying the effects of such practice on the physical, psychological and cognitive functioning of the PS. The first study is a cross-sectional study of performances of PS and able-bodied subjects on psychological and cognitive levels. The results show the similarity ofpsychological states and cognitive abilities of the two populations, this despite the increased risk of PS (1) to perceive their quality of life as inferior and (2) to present cognitive dysfunction with age. They were led to consider the possible influence of exercise. Thus the second study is a comparison of psychological and cognitive functioning and level of functional independence of PS athletes involved differently in the PA, and two control groups. The third study aims to evaluate the effects of a training prograrn on factors related to fitness, quality of life and cognition in sedentary PS. The results of the se studies show the effectiveness of exercise on various physiological and psychological aspects of PS but not on their functional independence. The cognitive functioning of PS is not necessarily associated with their level of investment in the PA (study 2) but the PA influence sorne cognitive skills of PS (study 3). Several factors, such as the development of compensatory strategies, are also discussed. So, aIl this work demonstrates the importance of the PA on psychological functioning of PS

Full textThis research studies museum internet sites and in particular the pedagogy of eight national institutions in four different countries and suggests that online museums are educational content players. The interest is to investigate the educational content of the internet sites using a content analysis and implementing a comparison between the four countries and the types of internet sites to be able to understand the practices – and especially what Jean Davallon calls « the anticipation by the “sender” » that the visitor will engage in (the sender aiming for example to keep the attention of the latter or to provide guidance in the contents), the typology of content and the teaching strategies put in place by the online museum institutions. The online educational offer is defined here as a permanent activity as a source of building knowledge, consultation, criticism, and entertainment, from the museum resources. This offer is also constructed according to the consistent rules of Web design. We have chosen to study the online pedagogy according to a constructivist approach that drives us to privilege certain key concepts : individual learning ways, learning processes, cognitive strategies, meta-cognitive strategies, {learning styles}, taxonomy. From a methodological point of view, this thesis relies on a qualitative approach and privileges a content analysis from an analysis grid with eleven categories : the corpus is composed of eight internet sites and of two types of national museums : the art museums and the science museums with an educational section. The thesis is composed of two tomes. The tome 2 contains the complete analysis of the sites and the tome 1 includes three parts. In the first part, the research discusses the educational role of museums with its specificities and complexities. This part defines the historical context of the educational function of museums that very early on developed an educational strategy for the public. It also shows the specificity of museums in informal education as a place of learning concepts and development that develop two types of mediation. The museum favours the formulation of questions; it orientates reflexion and raises questions. It then shows the museum as an important partner and complementary to school. Finally, this part precises the historical context of online museums of the four countries from our analysis and the progressive development of the cultural policies of the present and the progressive actions put into place by the museums.Secondly, the research focuses on the thematic analysis of the internet sites and on their educational sections and attempts to show the successive steps of the content analysis via the analysis grid constructed for this research. Firstly, it is about showing the ergonomics of the sites to progressively arrive upon the general treatment of the educational sections of the sites, that is to say to identify the mechanisms of underlying internet sites and of their educational sections and secondly to identify the differences between the types of museums and their countries. Finally, the third part of the research attaches importance to the typology of the online educational content and focuses on the strategies put into place in the sites as well as the pedagogy deployed. The internet sites are thus viewed as interconnected elements, intended for a target audience and reinforcing the social role of the museum. The schools and the teaching body are a privileged population; a prominent place for them is underlined

Full textThis dissertation focuses on how occupational exposures throughout the lifecourse—chemical, physical, and psychosocial—contribute to social patterns in aging outcomes, addressing the gap in knowledge about lasting effects of occupational exposures and the contribution of individual and combined exposures to social patterns in aging. The first paper explores whether childhood educational attainment modifies effects of occupational solvent exposure during the career on cognitive function after age 55. We found differential effects of solvent exposure on cognition by educational attainment. The second paper looks at combined physical and psychosocial exposures during working life and effects on physical health and functioning after retirement. This paper finds that high exposure to both physical and psychosocial hazards at work is associated with worse functional capacity in retirement than exposure to either one separately; the pattern of this relationship differs for men and women. The third paper is a methodology paper exploring alternatives to extensive testing batteries often used to evaluate physical workplace exposures. We tested whether the question “Do you find your work physically strenuous?” was an acceptable proxy measure for more detailed exposure assessments by comparing the measure to a comprehensive self-report measure of 38 specific biomechanical strains across eight domains. We found that the measure was most valid in the populations that were most highly exposed to physical strains at work. In general, this dissertation found that occupational exposures can exacerbate existing disparities in health and perpetuate disparities into and beyond retirement
Devin, Anne-Laure. "Les perturbations de la récupération des évènements autobiographiques chez les usagers réguliers de cannabis." Thesis, Université de Lorraine, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016LORR0330/document.
Full textThe literature indicates that cannabis users are vulnerable, both emotionally and cognitively. We expected that these dysfunctions may be associated with a loss of autobiographical recall. Indeed, through this exploratory study, we observe that regular cannabis users have difficulties to retrieve specific autobiographical events, which is indicative of a surgenerality bias. It appears that adaptive use motivation influences the recall of general events in users, much more than the representative factors of their emotional functioning. Therefore, we suggest that, in this population, adaptive use motive, illustrate, much more than other predictors, the functional avoidance assumption (Williams, 2006) to explain the occurrence of this surgenerality bias. Given, now, the emotional valence of autobiographical events recalled by the users, this research does not allow to demonstrate overrepresentation of negative events in the autobiographical recall of users, contrary to what we envisaged in the light of literature. It is possible to think that these results are due, among other things, to the effect of cannabinoids on the modulation of emotions. However, to confirm this, we need more research gets done to answer this question
