Full textInterpersonal conflict is a growing concern in an organizational environment. Some consider that the absence of third parties may allow extreme violence to exist. In several Anglo-Saxon countries, companies have identified and developed informal and formal third party resources; several of which have lead to academic researches. Informal third parties (peacemakers, consultants. . . ) and formal ones (litigation procedures) have been also been described and analyzed. Unlike violence, justice perceptions (procedural, distributive, interactional) and bargaining process that result from third party intervention have been the main focus of these analyses. We propose to explore, describe, and define third party functions in terms of the contribution to ones individual violence evolution by fostering desire and social exchange as opposed to immediate violence. This approach classifies the presence and absence of third party resources considering occasions that help individuals to cope with real, imaginary and symbolic limits, to transform them into a source of desire, and social exchange without resorting to sacrificial violence. This may happen in two distinct processes emphasized by an anthropological approach to criminal trials: mediation creates distance with real limits and combines their social and imaginary dimension into a thought ; arbitration only takes in account the concrete aspect of limits, while linking their real and social dimensions, and also taking distance from their imaginary dimension

Full textWithin the teaching interaction framework, the objective of our study is to describe the linguistic forms and functions of teachers' rephrasings in oral interactions in the third cycle of primary school. The application of Gülich and Kotschi's linguistic model (1987) of the rephrasing reveals its functioning in teaching interactions. The corpus which we propose to analyze consists of eight sessions, with different teaching objects, recorded in two CM2 classes, one led by an experienced teacher and the other one by a novice teacher. Rephrasings are an integral part of the construction of knowledge in class. They play a different role according to the subjects being taught. In learning situations, rephrasings aim towards a precise target, they allow the validation or problématisation of the pupils' statements. The analysis of this teaching interactions corpus confirms the linguistic model that was constructed to give an account of this linguistic phenomenon and may claim to refine the initial model by adding new rephrasing categories. The analysis of rephrasings of two teachers enables specification of the rephrasing functions, as well as bringing out invariant characterictics of the teaching interactions

Full textThe objective of this thesis is to shed light on what may lead a dependent person who fears abandonment to engage in self-injury. Psychological models of object relations and attachment have shown that self-injury is empirically associated with fear of abandonment via dependency and attachment anxiety. However, the nature of this relationship has yet to be thoroughly explained. Having defined and contextualised self-injury, a theoretical explanation is proposed through object relations, attachment and experiential avoidance functions of self-injury, all with the goal of better understanding what can influence a dependent individual to self-injure. This thesis suggests that individuals who are dependent and afraid of being abandoned might use self-injury to regulate negative emotions associated with their perception of abandonment, separation or rejection. Theoretically, this influence of self-injury could occur through intrapersonal and interpersonal functions, such as affect regulation, self-punishment and interpersonal influence, as well as autonomy avoidance. These functions might serve to protect internal representations of dependence and thus, reduce subjective feelings of abandonment. To test these theoretical proposals, 58 outpatient participants completed, among other measures, the Depressive Experiences Questionnaire (DEQ), the Inventory of Statements About Self-Injury (ISAS) and the Revised Diagnostic Interview for Borderlines (DIB-R). Results showed a relationship between anaclitic neediness and self-injury frequency, which was explained by mediator effects of both affective and interpersonal problems. Furthermore, this type of dependency was found to be specifically associated with marking distress, anti-dissociation, interpersonal influence and autonomy avoidance functions of self-injury. These findings suggest that anaclitic neediness favours the experience of affective and interpersonal difficulties, which in turn increase the frequency of self-injury. Results also suggested that self-injury associated with this type of dependency might serve to regulate internal affective states, to influence the interpersonal environment and to avoid autonomy. Affect regulation and self-punishment functions were endorsed by the majority of individuals who self-injured, regardless of their level of dependence. While these two functions are associated in theory to dependency issues that underpin self-injury for some individuals, analyses indicated that these functions also contribute to self-injury behaviour in people who do not fear abandonment specifically.
