Fonologisk språkstörning är den vanligaste typen av språkstörningsdiagnos och innefattar uttalssvårigheter och/eller bristande fonologisk medvetenhet.  Syftet med studien var att undersöka om barn med fonologisk språkstörning riskerar att få läs- och skrivsvårigheter. 14 barn i årskurs 3 som i förskoleåldern diagnostiserats med fonologisk språkstörning testades i fonologisk medvetenhet, avkodning av ord och nonord samt stavning. Children with phonological problems often come in contact with a speech and language pathologist for intervention. The intervention can be based on different theoretical frameworks, whereof non-linear phonology is one. The present study was carried out as a multiple single-case study with three participants aged 4;3-4;4 years. Speech production requires cooperation between cognitive, linguistic and motor processes. It also requires spatial and temporal control of muscles, as well as simultaneous and coordinated activity of respiration, phonation and articulation (Cheng, Murdoch, Goozée & Scott, 2007; Yorkston, Beukelman, Strand & Bell, 1999; Raphael, Borden & Harris, 2011). Voice Onset Time (VOT) reflects the timing between phonation and articulation (Hoit-Dalgaard, Murry & Kopp, 1983). VOT is the most reliable acoustic cue for distinguishing between voiceless or voiced plosives (Auzou et al. 2000).

Nine Swedish-speaking children with SSD (Speech Sound Disorder) participated. A new method of speech elicitation was introduced, a narrative task using a silent short film as a prompt.
