Abstract:
Growth impairment has been reported in children with food allergies (FA). However, the available data on the dietary intake of FA children are controversial, and no data are available for children under 3 years of age on their resting energy expenditure (REE). The aim of this study was to assess the nutritional status, through anthropometric parameters, and estimate the energy expenditure in children with FA before and during treatment. In this study, 30 FA children were matched by sex and age, with 20 healthy controls. Anthropometric parameters were evaluated by measuring weight, length/heig

Abstract:
This commentary reports on work published between 2005 and 2015 forming a record of a varied career building technical competence alongside strategic skills in the analytical chemistry and molecular biology of food. The unifying theme is practice based problem solving in the scientific regulation and enforcement of food safety and authenticity. The work demonstrates advances in sound, forensically robust, measurement science addressing problems arising from food additives, food authenticity and food allergens. In particular the mature discipline that underpins the regulation and enforcement of

<p>Reliable methods to analyze food for the presence of almond are important – not only for those allergic to almond, but also for monitoring the compliance with labelling regulations (EG directive 2003/89). Until now the Swedish National Food Administration has used methods like rocket immunoelectrophoresis and real-time PCR to detect almond in food. These methods are, however, not sensitive enough for protecting the most sensitive individuals. Therefore, the performance of a commercial ELISA kit was tested with regard to specificity/cross reactivity and limit of detection for almond both in
