Since 2000s, advergames, a particular form of branded entertainment that features advertising messages, logos, and trade characters in a game format, have become popular. The impact of advergmaes on childhood obesity, however, has been concerned among consumer groups and parents. Advertisers may use advergame scoring systems to encourage children to consume junk foods, to persuade them to revisit the Websites to help them to become addicted to the games, to reinforce children’s bad eating habits in advergames with voices or rewards, and to attract children with animated spokes characters and avatars. The purpose of this study is to examine in-depth components of scoring systems of advergames, providing policy makers and researchers with insights about advergames. Brand integration in scoring systems of advergames appeared on food companies’ websites was explored with the descriptive characteristics of the roles of brands, such as gaming tools or equipment or main objects or in the backgrounds of games. A content analysis of 67 food companies’ websites aiming to children will be done to critically evaluate the practice of online food marketing and advergames targeting children. Results of this study indicates that the prevalence of junk food (e.g., snack foods, sweets, convenience entrees and meals and soft drinks, and artificially flavored beverages), different types of brand integration (e.g., secondary objects or primary objects) in advergames scoring systems, virtual food consumption and food brand exposures to children in advergames, and the behavior of animated characters used in scoring systems in advergames. Understanding the immersive marketing of scoring systems in food advergames can provide valuable insights into how to establish appropriate regulations for online food marketing to children.

Full textGastronomy can be regarded as a particular attention paid to the aesthetic dimension of food. Gastronomic goods are thus symbolic goods and their market exchange needs the existence of specific valuation devices. As a tool that directs consumers in an opaque market and that indicates the “right” product, or the “right” way to cook, food journalism can be considered as a market device. This thesis is based upon a fieldwork including in-depth interviews, observations, statistics and text analysis. It focuses on the way such a device is built. In a diachronic approach, the first chapters deal with the emergence of this device during the 19th century and with its construction at the crossroads of different social spaces (food world, connoisseurs’ world and journalistic world). It appears that at the end of the 20th century, with the setting up of a food magazines’ market, the vision carried by magazines becomes dependent on their position in competition and on their business model. Then, the individual actors and the making of news are studied. The analysis of the trajectories and the skills of journalists and food bloggers who may compete with them put the light on different forms of food writing and different kinds of trust associated with them. Finally, the study of the actual work of food journalists allows to account for the similarity of media content. The analysis of the career paths of renowned food journalists helps to understand the way they manage to differentiate themselves from the others

Full textThis study aims at investigating and analyzing a gastronomic trend called comfort food. Known by researchers as the food that brings comfort, it is a trend that started in the US after the Second World War, but became popular in Brazil after 2006 and counter balances fast food and the rationality of functional food with its health benefits. This research tries to identify the range of possibilities for studies that consider food and the social relations related to the act of eating as a mixture of subjects, cultures and cooking. The evidence that cooking can be a way of communication for harmonious social interaction of men, having the act of eating as a pillar for it, is the main objective of this study, in addition to the analysis of intangible aspects of cooking such as culture and aesthetics, and today`s challenge of rescuing and recreating memories related to food and eating together. Such observations are approached under the crossbreding theory, developed by Pinheiro and Freyre, with an anthropological bias developed by Lévi-Strauss, Malinowski, Douglas, Harris and by the beginning of a new possibility of explanation towards the sensorial perception and the sensing, a way pointed out by Dória, Serres and Ferreira, and justified through studies by Maffesoli and Brillat-Savarin. The interlink of all these approaches allows the comprehension of a set of questions which are behind this environment of transformation, of the interplay of the natural and the cultural worlds, and which contains a lot of information, plenty of stimulus and different points of view

Full textObesity is a Public Health problem in Brazil, where one in three children are fat according to a national survey. In 2010 the National Agency of Sanitary Security released a regulation on the advertisement of food and created rules to protect children. The whole process started in 2004 with great attention from the press. Nowadays the regulation is not valid because of a decision from the brazilian Justice. We aim to evaluate the construction of the obesity risk in the childhood and changes in the discourse about obesity after this regulation using the framing theory and the Analysis of Critical Discourse in texts about the regulation published in the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper. In 184 texts about the regulations checked, 28% where opinions and 55% of this were against the regulation. The most of the texts were published after 2010 and 40% of the surveys were person from the market who was the regulation\'s target. When the regulation was about to be released the news framing was more favorable to the market. The discourse on child obesity was moved from the Public Health area to the Market area, which main issue is the freedom in the communications of the market.

CAPES
This study aims to present the gastronomical turning point, a transition period in which cooking is replaced by gastronomy in Brazilian journalism. This transformation leads to changes in section (from female to culture and leisure), genre (from recipe to review and report), focus (from practice to discourse), space (from home to restaurant), protagonist (from home cook to chef) and approach (from ordinary to cultural). We analyzed, through a discoursive approach, two landmarks of this moment: the column À mesa como convém (1975-1997), at Jornal do Brasil, and the first version of Comida section (1988-1992), at Folha de S.Paulo. The frame of reference relies on two main authors: Michel Foucault, to explain the turning point as a discursive event, and Pierre Bourdieu, to explore the establishment of food journalism as a journalism subfield. It was necessary to collect texts published before the turning point to compare them, what led us to collect content published in both newspapers since 1960. Results show that there are three main recurring themes in the turning point: the review criteria, the beginning of the acknowledgment of the role of chefs and the pedagogy of consumption. As a genre that intends to guide to restaurants or reject them, reviews try to lead the reader at leisure time. Chefs begin to be known after the arrival of French professionals at Brazil. Pedagogy of consumption is the path found to broaden the reader’s knowledge in a still unknown zone.

Full textENGLISH ABSTRACT: The aim and function of this paper is to provide a balanced account of how the media, international and South African, have dealt with the issue of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). A selection of interviews, presentations, articles, transcripts and published reports forms the background of this interpretation, and offers insight into the history of the technology, the major role players, the legislation required and implemented, the question of environmental accountability, and the power of the media's influence. It addresses aspects of the causal relationship between the media and public understanding, and the subsequent power of the consumer as manifested by the perception of risk. The central theme of genetic engineering conjures up a variety of meanings and applications, and the plethora of available information is evaluated in an attempt to develop informed understanding for reporters covering the many dimensions of this development within the arena of science and technology.

Full textThis research raises the issue of the journalistic investigation competition applied in Peruvian sports journalism. To this end, an analysis of the aforementioned competence was carried out in the stories published on the web pages of the Depor and Líbero newspapers in August 2020. In this sense, a corpus of forty (40) texts in total was reviewed , from a rubric built especially for this research. This instrument was divided into four dimensions that make up the competence: research method, use of new technological tools, systematic use of research techniques, and the construction and presentation of the story. In this way, it was concluded that the texts of both newspapers do not show the use of journalistic investigation competence, since a methodical and systematic work was not found that aimed to reveal new information on the topics addressed. Likewise, the recurring use of content extracted from other sports and the scarce diversity of sources used, reflect no journalistic work on the part of both newspapers, which frequently appeal to observation and documentation to elaborate their stories. Likewise, the trend reflected that journalistic products were made up of text and photos, leaving aside the use of technological tools such as infographics, videos, graphics, heat maps or other resources that favor analysis and presentation. Therefore, the results indicate that the stories of Depor and Líbero do not reflect the concepts worked on of professional competences or specialized journalism.

Full textMusic journalism in Peru is not a branch that has been developed very often. Although there have been different print media that have dared to publish this type of information years ago, nowadays they are almost scarce. Faced with this, different platforms emerge in the virtual world, willing to produce musical journalistic content. As a result, it was decided to address this area of specialized digital journalism, taking as cases the Peruvian platforms Tercer Parlante, Conciertos Perú and Garaje del Rock. This investigation's main theme is to carry out a descriptive analysis of the types of stories. Whether they are informative notes, chronicles, reviews and interviews, of the three platforms already mentioned. Likewise, it seeks to discover if the information provided by these platforms is journalistic. For this, a descriptive and interpretive methodology was used and an observation was made of the publications from the years 2017 to 2020, from the three platforms. Likewise, the files were used as a research instrument. These two files were subdivided into two categories. In the first category, the structure of the page was described, the sections and the frequency with which they publish were identified. While in the second category, the headlines, the agenda, the handling of sources, the types of stories, the handling of specialized language and the use of digital resources were described. Once the investigation was completed, it was concluded that these platforms do provide specialized journalistic material.

Full textThe news that breaks into the everyday is inside the phenomenon known as police journalism. Also, in the last two decades, digital journalism has become one of the fastest ways of doing journalism, applying the characteristics of "the old school", in the new (not so new) digital forms and constructing one's own on the march. In this research paper, it was decided to look at the case of 'Camilita', the four-year-old girl who was raped and murdered by a fifteen-year-old boy in Payet area of Independencia district. This work seeks to define and identify the treatment of information, the criteria of hierarchization of approaches and the mechanisms or digital resources used in the construction of news of rape and murder of minors in digital journalistic spaces, being these, the main functions covered by the role of gatekeeper, a character who is also known as a curator of content in the digital environment. To reach this point, I used a qualitative methodology and analyzed a corpus of twenty news items, published by the digital newspaper Ojo, between the 2nd and 4th of March 2020, in relation to the 'Camilita' case. At the end of this research, it was concluded that there is a hierarchy of news, defined not only by focus, but also by the use of digital resources of the newspaper Ojo: 'hyperlinks', 'recommended videos' and 'you may be interested'. Likewise, it became evident that these cases generate superficial news and do not incorporate deeper analyses of the reality in which the victims find themselves. This could be one more approach than the one required to be published.

Full textThe subject of this thesis is the influence of new technologies in the evolution of digital journalism and how its use has altered its traditional hierarchical criteria (in the form of an inverted pyramid, where the main thing was at the beginning and the rest of the note is its development or description). In this case, the research will be based on how the Peruvian media use clickbait for the development of their informative notes and how this use has changed the structure of the news. The online platforms of three media were reviewed: Diario La República as the written press, Radio RPP as the radio press, and América Noticias as the television press; chosen for having been pioneers in their fields in the transition to the digital world and also for the high level of readership and audience. To achieve the proposed objective, a content analysis was carried out with a period of time delimited by the appearance of the zero COVID-19 patient in Peru (March 6), which was the moment when the Peruvian public became aware of that the disease had reached our country; until the beginning of the quarantine was decreed (March 15), the date on which the State reacted and took measures to combat and / or prevent the spread of the virus. The most important finding in the three media is that there is a variation in the structure of the informative notes that contain a clickbait, using a mainly rhomboid hierarchization (writing structure where the main information or the response to the note holder is in the middle and not at the beginning).

Full textThe main theme of this investigation is to identify the mencanimes and resources that digital investigative journalism performs as an investigative mechanism before the dissemination of Fake News. It was decided to address the resources and mechanisms that digital investigative journalism executes against the dissemination of false news during the COVID19 pandemic, taking into account This work seeks to identify the criteria and references that investigative digital journalism uses. For this, a qualitative methodology was carried out and it was decided to choose a representative corpus of three reports from the journalistic spaces mentioned above. Likewise, an analysis instrument was designed based on four subcategories that allowed us to identify digital research mechanisms and the correct way of use. Once the investigation was completed, it was concluded that there is a relationship between fake news and digital investigative journalism, since the investigative mechanisms that were used to prevent false news in the reports shown were effective. Likewise, it was made clear that although technological progress has notably favored the media, if the search for information is not handled responsibly, it could cause misinformation that harms society.

Full textThe following research examines some mechanisms that can show the presence of disinformation and post-truth in opinion journalism. To address this issue, it develops an instrument that helps to identify these mechanisms in the content of the opinion columns of Aldo Mariátegui and Luis García, in the newspapers Perú21 and Expreso respectively, that comment on the second impeachment process against former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski. The period of analysis took place since the process started until one day after President Martín Vizcarra took office. The first chapter explores the origin of post-truth in disinformation, as well as analyzing what elements they share and how they have transferred from one to the other. Likewise, the mechanisms of disinformation and post-truth that are related to opinion journalism are delimited: fallacies such as ad populum, gratuitous affirmation and hasty generalization, as well as name-calling (adjectives of personal disqualification) and reference to fake news. In the second chapter, this research explores the context and state of opinion journalism in Peru. Subsequently, an instrument is developed to review the chosen columns and analyse the findings of this process were discussed. These findings reveal that in the opinion columns that were analyzed, the use of these disinformation and post-truth mechanism, as fallacies and name-calling (adjectives of personal disqualification), replaces the arguments needed to defend their stances.

Full textThis research work seeks to know the characteristics of nine reports of the Sodalicio case published in the newspaper La República. To do this, first the definitions of investigative journalism are addressed, as well as its elements, characteristics and other components, and some elements of the Christian Life Sodalitium, its characteristics and those of its members are shown. The chosen corpus of analysis is the nine reports of the Sodalicio case published in the newspaper La República between March and May 2016. To carry out this analysis, four variables have been taken into account: general criteria of the report (which refer to the headline and the introductory text), elements and characteristics of investigative journalism, narrative construction and aspects related to the Sodalitium of Christian Life. The proposed analysis instrument made it possible to initially study the reports individually and then analyze the coverage jointly. The conclusion reached is that the nine reports studied are characterized by presenting testimonies and data that denounce the abuses and irregularities present within the Sodalicio and respond to a journalistic investigation that makes use of a discursive line with elements typical of the literary journalism.

Frost, Jennifer. "Is natural good for you? Myths, perceptions and science in advertising, marketing and the media." Thesis, Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/10019.1/21623.
Full textENGLISH ABSTRACT: This assignment explores the assumptions and perceptions – both real, and created by the media, marketers and advertisers – surrounding the word “natural” when applied to health foods, vitamins, home remedies and medication. It also examines the anti-science stance taken by many promoters of such products and the appeal that stance holds for targeted consumers. In it an attempt is made to answer the following questions: What is the source of this apparently “antiscience” point of view? How have the media contributed to this type of sentiment? Why do socalled “natural” products hold more appeal to consumers than their synthetic equivalents? Is there a difference between such products? Is the difference real or perceived? Or, is it merely a media construct? Does the popularity of these ideas indicate a growing distrust of science and governments? What effect has the media’s portrayal of science had on peoples’ attitudes to it? And, above all, what have the media done to advance the idea that “natural” is good for you?

Full textThe traditional convergence to the digital context in the 1990s produced that informational techniques such as sensationalism were transferred to a modern environment or digital ecosystem and could have new tools to extend their disinformation structure. In this extension, clickbait is approaching as an important resource and protagonist, which is defined as a hook of attention for the public, who when reading a striking headline enters the news broadcast and is surprised that the resulting breakdown is not So relevant, consequently, the headline ends up being an exaggeration or a lie. Throughout the chapters we will observe how, from the evolution of journalism to the modern context, the prominence of football in the media and the sensationalism related to clickbait have generated a new disinformative language, which is increasingly settling into a normalization that could be generating a kind of strategy that is supossed to valid for various written media. Of course, football does not end up losing importance and as a result of a national context, where it is a discipline that influences economic, social and anthropological aspects, the study is more than relevant. In this research, we analyze in depth how clickbait is used on Depor.com to inform about the probable transfer of Paolo Guerrero to Boca Juniors between 2019 and 2020.

Full textThis research analyzed the significance the news related to education have for two of the most important newspapers in Peru: La Republica and El Comercio, as well as the journalistic approach they offer. A total of 78 newspapers corresponding to the first six months of the year 2019 were consulted to analyze 90 published notes related to education. For the analysis of the same, a qualitative matrix was used with which thematic approaches of the publications, variety of journalistic sources, relevance in the newspaper sections and the richness of the journalistic genres used were studied. The results show that there is no specific interest on the part of the media regarding education issues: a specific section has not been structured for dissemination, often being published alongside police or judicial notes; there is no varied participation of official sources of consultation to enrich the journalistic product and; in many cases the headlines respond to the search for sensationalism through conflict and controversial approach to the issues. In conclusion, it is easier to resort to the ease of linking education with tragedies, corruption or striking unions. For a country of more than 500,000 teachers, there are topics to investigate, such as innovative methodologies, renewal of educational materials, good management practices, private or public schooling, international internships, educational scholarships, specialized publications, free education and which could count on transcendence to deserve the attention of educational journalism

Full textI clearly remember the case of the disappearance of Ciro Castillo and Rosario Ponce in the Colca Valley – Arequipa. It was the first police newsworthy event that caught my attention. Not because of the acts that happened, but because of the extensive follow-up that the journalistic press gave it. It took several months in which the faces of both protagonists monopolized covers, Sunday articles, chronicles, and endless journalistic corners. One of the main problems that was observed in the journalistic treatment of the event was that many loose ends were left at the time of reporting. A series of imprecise data was released that did not lead to the search for the truth. And it is precisely this that led to speculation becoming the main protagonist of the police act. For this reason, the present research aims to analyze the treatment of information, based on the phenomenon of speculation about the case of Ciro Castillo and Rosario Ponce on the web platform Ojo.pe over almost seven months. For this, the form and dimension in which the media used this resource that many authors consider as the main enemy of the journalistic career will be demonstrated. In the next pages, you will be able to know the origins, evolution and characteristics of police journalism; and the relationship with the concept of speculation in journalism, taking as an example Ojo.pe and its coverage of the disappearance of Ciro Castillo and Rosario Ponce. In addition to that, you will be able to reflect on the deficiencies in the professional ethics of those who, it is supposed, should always inform with the truth.

The intention of this research is to evaluate the journalistic discourse during this period, which we have called “the decade of recovery of Peruvian soccer”. Based on the concepts of journalistic discourse and its particular sports approach, the study variables are defined in order to compare the covers of both newspapers: the present and visible elements (headline, text and photography) and the meaning behind them (position, intention and informative level). A total of 68 covers have been analyzed, corresponding to the next day of each World Cup qualifying match (34 in total). Each result allows us to appreciate the journalistic construction in a different way. The conclusion is that contrary of the depth, the details and the optimistic and emotional intention of Depor, El Bocon prefers conciseness, seriousness and some simplicity in their coverage.

Full textThe information treatment of the news media in Peru expresses changes due to the Venezuelan migratory phenomenon in 2018. For that reason, several pages highlighted that xenophobia could be part of that alteration. On this matter, the intention is to analyze the elements of xenophobia that were present in the digital journalistic discourse of the newspapers Trome and Correo after the increase of the Venezuelan migration in the months of January to March and June to August 2018. In this regard, xenophobia is related to the elements of otherness, national identity, nationalism and ethnocentrism, which are manifested through stigmas. The objective is to identify the elements that were present in the media and therefore notes were chosen that reveal stigmas, which are composed with the study variables: compassionate motive, generalization, negative lexicalization and signaling. Therefore, an instrument was proposed that recognizes the variables in the title, the lead and the content. It is determined that the elements of xenophobia are otherness, national identity reinforced in nationalism and ethnocentrism, which draw symbolic lines between -the natives and the immigrants- emphasizing in the origin and derogatory denominations, and with a denouncing tone on their negative actions. The participation of Peruvians in illegal situations was concealed and their "correct" behavior was highlighted, to show them as vulnerable and to position migrants as ungrateful and initiators of the problems, revealing exclusion, rejection and intolerance.

The general objective is to describe the components of immersive journalism that are present in the reports on Covid-19 presented in the Al Sexto Día program through its television sequence En Carne Propia (March - August 2020). The method followed was the content analysis of the reports issued between March 15, 2020 to August 30, 2020. This period was delimited by its level of journalistic situation. It is known that March 15, 2020 was the date that the nation's president, Martin Vizcarra, decreed the State of Emergency in the country and August 30, 2020 was the date of cessation of the sixth extension of the State of Emergency. The main finding is that reporting has an innovative way of telling a story through the involvement of the reporter. Full textThe subject of this thesis is to compare the journalistic speeches of “La República” and “El Comercio” in relation to the municipal campaign of the mayor of Lima in 2018 and determine if post-truth was used in the digital news reports during the last month of the 2018 electoral campaign. Specifically, were analyzed the case of the candidate Ricardo Belmont, treated by the newspaper “La República”, and the candidate Daniel Urresti, treated by “El Comercio”. Of the total notes published (62 on Urresti in “El Comercio” and 46 on Belmont in "The Republic") they have only been considered 5 ratings “information” in each case, as they are the only ones who express disagreement has daily with candidate in question. A superficial reading might suggest that journalists who wrote these five notes are intended to be neutral. However, the use of keywords within the body of the text and the mechanisms used in speeches showed the presence of posverdad and so the critical stance of the medium is explicitly against the candidate. The main conclusion is that the applicants were not the favorites of the newspapers, because their ideology and position was not shared by these newspapers. In this sense, the present thesis also proves that daily mentioned, behind the appearance of balance information, various mechanisms were developed posverdad order to criticize and smear were not candidates of choice.

Full textIn a world subject to the changes that technology brings, journalism is obliged to go through a process of conversion to migrate from paper to the web and become a means of high diffusion. The job of journalist is now related with merging the concept of dynamism and immediacy, a remarkable feature of the internet, delivering to the readers quality, truthful and proven news. In addition, the journalist should include web positioning tools (SEO) that allow to locate the content in the first results of search engines such as Google and, in this way, reach more people. In view of this scenario, the following research has as a significant aim to determine whether the correct application of SEO in digital journalistic writing influences the visibility of the news flow within search engines. To this end, 35 notes published in the digital edition of the peruvian newspaper El Comercio during the pandemic by Covid-19 have been used as the subject of study. An instrument has been designed to evaluate journalistic aspects, as well as positioning and impact tools. As a result, two types of behaviors were observed in the selected notes: the first refers to a set of mass news, published under the general signature of the journal, which favor elements of web optimization, hypertextuality and multimediality to the detriment of other aspects of journalism; while the latter is limited to those notes signed by a journalist, which offers extensive texts, with various sources of information and greater processing, leaving aside positioning techniques. In this way, research concludes that while SEO influences the visibility of news content, the challenge is to incorporate the beneficial elements of traditional journalism into the versatile and still unpredictable digital culture.
