It examines the various types of feminism in the zo" century and how they complement each other, criticize each other and have contributed to critical political debate. Realism as the dominant political paradigm of the zo" century comes under scrutiny and it is shown how it abets and supports male domination by cloaking it in neutral language and institutions that appear neutral. This study explores the role of three South African trade union organisations, COSATU, FEDUSA and Solidariteit, in the foreign policy process of South Africa. It asks what role these trade union organisations played between 1999 and 2012 in the South African foreign policy process and what factors had a bearing on that role. Gender studies within IR in particular have been focused on foreign policy opinion, seeking to discover whether men and women have different views on foreign policy simply due to the fact that they are of different genders. The correlate of this is that if women believe differently than men, in which way do they believe differently and if this were then taken to

This thesis is concerned with jurisdictionally evasive European corporations in the Atlantic region. In the wake of renewed interest in trading companies in the historical literature on empires and colonies, this study explores the claims of corporations to foreign lands, the dispossession of pre-existing populations, and the emergence of legal conflicts out of these events and other related extra-European processes. To that end, this thesis engages with medieval legal and economic history, to explain the origin of the modern corporate form, the changing patterns of landholding and commerce ac

The situation in Kampuchea has been an interesting issue in international politics. The Kampuchean people have been battered and exposed to foreign domination for the past five hundred years. After such a long period, however, peace is still not at hand. Moreover, since the 1970s the country has faced three major events: US bombings that started in 1970 and culminated in 1973; the inhumane evacuation of towns and mass executions under the Pol Pot regime (1975-1978); and the war between the SRV and the. This thesis engages with two emerging bodies of scholarship: the history of human rights and the history of U.S. neoconservatism. It begins with an exploration of the genesis of the contemporary international human rights movement, arguing that human rights as we know and understand them today were a product of the latter half of the twentieth century. Their path, however, was not a clear one. The emergence of neoconservative ideology in U.S. domestic politics would greatly impact upon the trajectory of the human rights movement under the presidencies of Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan. Corporate political activity (CPA) refers to the actions firms undertake to influence government policy in order to create a favourable environment for their business. Emerging markets are currently a strategic focus area for growth, especially for multinational enterprises (MNEs). In these emerging markets, MNEs stand to benefit from greater access to traditional resources but face a liability of foreignness (LOF), whereas local companies benefit from local understanding, protectionism and social embeddedness. A brief discussion of Portuguese history from 1910 to 1933 provides the background to Galvão’s affiliation to Salazar’s regime and his subsequent apostasy.
