Abstract:
The widespread geographical distributions of mammalian carnivores such as the Carnivora and the Dasyuridae have often been erroneously equated with abundance. Their low densities and high demands on habitat area can render mammalian carnivores especially vulnerable to habitat fragmentation and destruction. The fossa Cryptoprocta ferox (Viverridae) is a mammalian carnivore threatened by the rapid loss of Madagascar's forests, to which it is endemic. A 3-year mark-recapture study, comprising four censuses, generated an estimate of fossa population density at 0.18 adults km−2, or 0.26 individuals

First, the plants as vegetation form the physical surroundings for both herbivores and carnivores and are the basis of the physical structure of the community. Therefore, understanding the factors that limit the quantity and the quality of plants is fundamental. Abstract:
Abstract Carnivorans interact in diverse ways with other community members, in addition to eating them. All heterotrophs cycle nutrients; carnivorans cycle animal bodies and deposit carrion and waste in patterns that structure vegetation communities. The best-documented case of transporting nutrients across ecological boundaries involves bears moving carcasses of spawning salmon from stream beds to adjacent forest along the North Pacific Rim. Salmon carcasses increase soil concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorous, stimulating woody plant growth. Badgers affect soils directly by mixing soil l

Abstract:
Abstract Recent research in the Central Balkans is discovering multiple human occupations previously unknown from the region, revealing its strategical location within Europe for human populations dispersing towards Central and Western Europe during the Pleistocene. Šalitrena Pećina (Serbia) contains evidence of late Neanderthal and early anatomically modern human (AMH) presence during the mid-to-late MIS 3. A Bayesian model of the radiocarbon dates, combined with the zooarchaeological and stable isotope analyses of the macromammals and technological analysis of the bone tools, provides new i
