In addition to the management of SOD in forest ecosystems, disease resistance could be used as a way to mitigate the impact of P. ramorum. The Palearctic region is characterised by high endemism in the west and east, and a low endemism centre. The endemic lineages occurring at the two ends are largely distinct, and eastern endemics are typically associated with humid climates and forests, representing the start of a continuum from temperate to tropical forest groups and leading to Indo-Malay endemics. In contrast, western Palearctic endemics are typically associated with arid or seasonally dry (Mediterranean) climates and vegetation. Those lineages occurring in the central Palearctic are typically of western origin. Here, we use

Olyreae comprise three subtribes, of which Olyrinae are the most heterogeneous, with 19 genera widely distributed in Brazilian biomes but also occurring in Mexico, Central America and northern and western South America. One of the lineages of this group is composed of the genera Raddia and Sucrea, the relationships of which were recently studied. Forest fragmentation is a continuing global concern. Human development destroys forest habitat, which separates and isolates forest fragments, decreases animal movement between fragments, reduces animal abundance and alters community composition. Forests are also becoming increasingly fragmented by linear forest clearings, such as roads, which are widespread throughout forests in tropical, temperate and boreal forest biomes. The ecological effects of roads have been well documented, but forests also contain extensive networks of non-road linear forest clearings (linear clearings hereafter). Fo

Linear regression is used widely and effectively in forestry but the method of quantifying the linear relationship in terms of selecting observations or designing an experiment to obtain observations is often inefficient. Douglas, Thomas, Merritt Turetsky, and Charles Koven. Increased rainfall stimulates permafrost thaw across a variety of Interior Alaskan boreal ecosystems. Engineer Research and Development Center (U.S.), 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.21079/11681/41050.

Abstract:
Earth’s high latitudes are projected to experience warmer and wetter summers in the future but ramifications for soil thermal processes and permafrost thaw are poorly understood. Here we present 2750 end of summer thaw depths representing a range of vegetation characteristics in Interior Alaska measured over a 5-year period. This included the top and third wettest summers in the 91-year record and three summers with precipitation close to mean historical values. Increased rainfall led to deeper thaw across all sites with an increase of 0.7 ± 0.1 cm of thaw per cm of additional rain. Disturbed

Abstract:
A physical model study investigating the dissipation of wave energy by a 1:2.1 scale North American red mangrove forest was performed in a large-scale flume. The objectives were to measure the amount of wave attenuation afforded by mangroves, identify key hydrodynamic parameters influencing wave attenuation, and provide methodologies for application. Seventy-two hydrodynamic conditions, comprising irregular and regular waves, were tested. The analysis related the dissipation to three formulations that can provide estimates of wave attenuation for flood risk management projects considering mang

Abstract:
We study the nowcasting of U.S. state-level fiscal variables using machine learning (ML) models and mixed-frequency predictors within a panel framework. Neural networks with continuous and categorical embeddings consistently outperform both linear and nonlinear alternatives, especially when combined with pooled panel structures. These architectures flexibly capture differences across states while benefiting from shared patterns in the panel structure. Forecast gains are especially large for volatile variables like expenditures and deficits. Pooling enhances forecast stability, and ML models ar

Abstract:
The extension of the PRCI on bottom stability (OBS) software's applicability to shallow water is assessed. Version 3 of the software has a limitation on water depth; only depths greater than 6 m (20 ft) are accepted. This limitation is likely related to the increasing inaccuracy of linear wave theory as the wave height to water depth ratio increases, as well as caution about breaking wave limits. The usage of linear wave theory inside the software can be categorized into two different types: Linear regular waves - these are used in the Level 1 module to determine the motions of the water par
