Full textThis thesis explores in detail the relationships between function and form ofcontemporary dwelling, as well as the changes it goes through. It is based onunderstanding the notions of the dwelling and home through differentdiscourses. Multidisciplinary approach established many explored connectionsbetween life styles and contemporary Information and CommunicationTechnologies, which affect the change of the concept of a dwelling andcreation of many different atmospheres within a dwelling. This multitude isused here as the methodological principle but is also observed as thematerial myriad of different forms of housing that should be recognizedthrough discourses on dwelling. Reflecting on this phenomenon it is recognizedthat singularities (i.e. dwelling unit) are also multitudes at the sametime, therefore every dwelling is always one concrete existence that hasmany architectural discourses streaming through it, especially today.

The particle physics have been studying topics like the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP), Higgs boson and dark matter, which require experiments in heavy-ion collisions. Therefore, accelerators capable of generate high energy particle beams are necessary and may generate new physics. When new data arise in the laboratories, new processes are necessary to explain this data and sometimes, the internal structure of the involved particles is unknow or are virtual. In the theoretical models, used to describe this scattering processes, is common to introduce the form factors. The form factor is a way to simulate the sub-structure of the involved particles as function of energy or momentum. The form factor can be obtained using a method called QCD Sum Rules (QCDSR). In this work, the vertex D*Dp will be studied using the QCDSR, in order to obtain its form factors and coupling constant. The D*Dp vertex is very important to understand the ρπ Puzzle, where the Ј/ψ meson decays in ρπ with a branching ratio bigger than expected (this is a suppressed process by the OZI Rule). Studying this process with hadronic degrees of freedom, its possible to escape of the OZI rule, once the Ј/ψ→ DD → ρπ is not suppressed by the OZI rule. In this process, the D*Dp vertex is necessary. There are other processes where this vertex is necessary: X(3872)→Ј/ψp and B→Ј/ψD for example. In this work, was only possible to obtain results from the ρ off-shell diagram. This results were compared with others obtained in the literature.

Full textPlant roots play an important role in the growth and development of plants, and it is well known that the mechanical interactions between a growing root and the surrounding soil can have a major impact on root growth and consequently on plant biomass production. These mechanical interactions are one of numerous factors that explain the variability of root architecture, including genetics, environment and developmental instability. But this factor has often been under-estimated. I hypothesize that the heterogeneous structure of soil at the particle scale, demonstrated by the broad distribution of forces, can significantly influence root growth trajectories. This thesis aims at determining how grains in granular soils are reorganized under the action of growing roots, and in return how the resulting forces acting on root tips modify their development, including the kinematics of their trajectories, in order to develop a general biophysical law of root-soil mechanical interactions. I developed a 2D numerical model of root growth in a granular medium using a Discrete Element Model (DEM). The model is able to compute grain-grain and root-grain contact forces within a granular medium. The root system is modelled using chains of connected spheroline elements. The orientation of root growth at every growth step is determined by the dynamics of the whole root under the action of its internal elastic forces and reaction forces exerted by the grains, which are the mechanical interactions that control numerical growth in the model.Parametric studies were carried out in order to (i) estimate the influence of granular structure (grain diameter distribution, cohesion, volume fraction) and root mechanical properties (root bending stiffness) on the axial force signal acting on the root tip, and on the root trajectories and (ii) define general physical laws that can be used further to analyze experimental data. The distribution curves of computed root tip-grain forces normalized by the mean force during a given period of growth were characterized by a decreasing power law for forces below the mean force, and an exponential fall-off for forces above the mean force, thus reflecting the broad distribution of forces inside the granular material. An analysis of the standard deviation of the local deformations of root trajectories resulted in two different regimes with regard root stiffness. In the first regime, soil controlled the root deformation and in the second, the root trajectory was straighter and displaced more significantly the surrounding grains during growth

In this work, the form factors and coupling constants of the meson vertices J/ψ DsDs, J/ψ Ds*Ds and J/ψ Ds*Ds* have been calculated with the QCD sum rule (QCDSR) technique up to dimension 5 of the operator product expansion (OPE). These three vertices are involved in some of the numerous hypotheses that attempt to explain the internal structure of some exotic charmed mesons which began to be observed since 2003. Such mesons do not fit in the charmonium spectrum and/or have exotic quantum numbers within the CQM (constituent quark model). An example is the Y(4140) meson, which decays in the pair J/ψφ while the expected would be a dominant decay in open charm mesons. One of the proposals to understand this meson is to study it as a molecular state Ds*{D}s*, so it would decay as Y(4140)→ Ds* {D}s* → J/ψφ.In this process, the vertices studied in this work will appear, so the more accurate knowledge of their form factors and their coupling constants can benefit our understanding of the fundamental constitution of the Y(4140) as well as other new states as the X(4350), Y(4274) and Y (4660) eg. In this study all possible off-shell cases for each of these three vertices were considered, thus obtaining two different form factors for the vertex J/ψ DsDs, three for the vertex J/ψ Ds*Ds and two for the vertex J/ψ Ds* Ds*. In these three vertices, the form factors for the J/ψ off-shell case were well fitted by monopolar curves, while the Ds and Ds* off-shell cases were well fitted by exponential curves which is in agreement with the behavior found in previous work of the group. The calculations of the coupling constants leaded to the following results: g_{J/ψ Ds Ds} = 5.98^{+0.67}_{-0.58}, g_{J/ψ Ds* Ds} = 4.30^{+0.41}_{-0.35}GeV^{-1} and g_{J/ψ Ds* Ds*} = 7.47^{+1.04}_{-0.71}, these results are compatible with previous QCDSR works for the non strange vertices J/ψD(*)D(*).

Full textThis Ph. D. Dissertation presents the study and design of a high-power ultra wide band bipolar pulse forming stage. This sub-system is integrated in the radiation source called GIMLI developed at the ISL. The studied system complies with a strong requirement of compactness. The pulse forming is done thanks to the coupled operation of two gas spark gaps and a Blumlein pulse forming line. It is driven by a Marx generator and the output is connected to a dedicated antenna. The design makes extensive use of the numerical simulations especially for the dimensioning of the Blumlein and to identify and reduce the field enhancement area. New ’jagged’ electrode geometry is the main innovation of this study. It is proposed to optimize commutation times. Measurements show the good performances of the pulse former. The bipolar pulses have a 1. 5 ns-duration and the amplitude can reach 427 kV peak-to-peak on a 50 W resistive load. A repetition rate of 200 Hz has been successfully experienced during tests carried out with the CEA at the CESTA test site. The GIMLI prototype, equipped with the studied bipolar former can radiate a pulsed electric field of 5 V/m per volt on the antenna

Full textThe thesis compares the literary works of Giacomo Leopardi and Alessandro Manzoni. The thesis is structured in three chapters. The first chapter collects the historical-biographical elements useful to explain the terms of this relationship and ends with two portrait dedicated to Monaldo Leopardi, reader of Manzoni, and Matilde Manzoni, daughter of Alessandro, reader of Leopardi. The second chapter instead presents the results of an intertextual reading, which has as its main subject the study of quotations from or references to Manzoni in the poems written by Leopardi between 1828 and 1830. The third chapter compares the pages of Leopardi and Manzoni about the historical figure of Marcus Junius Brutus, an important figure of the classical latin word, often used as symbol of the French Revolution.

Full textThe shape of alluvial rivers is controlled by the feedback between the water flow and sediment transport. The flow, depends on the shape of the banks. It then entrains sediments and modifies the shape of the bed. First, we discuss rivers without any sediment transport. In this case, the tangential stress exerted on the banks equals the threshold stress. This condition selects the river morphology and predicts the width and slope of the river as a function of the water discharge. These equations correctly predict the shape of laminar laboratory rivers. The application to field data is less satisfactory: the exponent of the scaling laws are well predicted but the aspect ratio of natural rivers is wider than predicted from the equations. We show that the shape of a river cross-section also depends on the sediment discharge. In addition to their downstream motion, sediments entrained by the flow show fluctuations of their cross-stream velocity, likely due to the roughness of the underlying sediment bed. This causes particles to disperse laterally. This lateral spreading is the manifestation of a random walk, which causes transverse Fickian diffusion. The shape of a river cross-section is selected by the balance between the transyerse flux of sediments induced by gravity and this diffusive process. This balance leads to new equations relating the river width and slope to the sediment and water discharges. In particular, increasing the sediment discharge increasing the aspect ratio and the slope of the river. Above a threshold aspect ratio, the river destabilizes and forms a braided river. This behavior is observed qualitatively in both laminar flow experiments and in nature

Full textConsidering climate issues in an early phase of urban design requires design tools that are easy to use, quick to execute, and in line with the iterative process of designing. This thesis aims to create a simple tool to be used during the urban design phase to predict wind flows on a local scale and at the pedestrian level, based on urban morphological characteristics. This reading occurs through the construction of an urban vacuum skeleton. The skeleton then carries information to document the different urban components and their morphological characteristics at different levels. The dynamic approach to cross the urban vacuum is also a field-oriented analytical approach to capture and measure the urban space at the level of a set of punctual virtual sensors whose skeleton is sampled. Demonstrating the efficiency of the tools and methods proposed was adapted to three types of applications. The first is a production of profiles of morphological signatures of neighborhoods. The second is a detection of the different areas of the urban void (streets, crossroads, squares...). The third shows the skeleton’s ability to provide information to learn about wind distribution in the city

Pyramid ray-tracing simulations developed by A. Farina and a 10th scale model measurements have been carried out. Various geometries of the balcony are examined by variations depths, inclined parapets, and inclined ceilings. Full textThe architecture of the Masonic temples is a living heritage, but little studied, particularly in the context of academic research. Yet it has two advantages. As an object of study, first of all, it offers formal, spatial and sufficiently significant stylistic characteristics that we may wish to describe, seeking both to define the limits and invariants and also to identify different variations across tropisms related to history, geography or the culture in which it develops. This architecture offers also an interest as a subject of research: it is strictlydictated by specific rituals that define both form, organization and use. From this perspective, this study provides first revisit the concepts of type and model, as they were defined within the framework of the typo-morphological analysis developed by the Italian criticism in the 1970s. It establishes also a link between the use, here codifiedrituals, and architectural form, and suggest the outlines of a theory of concretion, within the form of architectural spaces would be understood as the result of ritualized practices of space. The thesis is developed in three parts. The first part, which opens a state ofknowledge, is devoted to the methodological approach and research developments, thanks to the means of digital technology and computers, which enabled the developmentof the corpus of research. The second part is devoted to the analysis of this corpus, based on the social, architectural and symbolic aspects of the Masonic Temple. The third part provides an extract of the of the corpus.

Full textThe research began with a fieldwork conducted in the Turkish province of Iğdır, a plateau bordering on Armenia and Nakhichevan and located near Georgia and Iran. However, two unused borders and the morphology itself cause a significant isolation, even from the rest of Turkey. After two troubled centuries, today Iğdır’s society is characterized by the presence of a large part of Turkish Azeris (Shia) and an equally large part of Turkish Kurds (Sunni Shafi'i). At the beginning of my thesis, I proposed a diachronic analysis of some old European accounts of the plateau, with a focus on migrations and diasporas (James Clifford, 1997, Routes: Travel and Translation in the Late Twentieth Century), but also on borders, boundaries, frontiers and horizons (Vincent Crapanzano, 2003, Imaginative Horizons: An Essay in Literary-Philosophical Anthropology). Then – inspiring to the arrival in Iğdır of Firat, a young teacher hailing from western Turkey – I analyzed the practice of the public space as the phenomenology of belongings and oppositions to local identities. In this part I initially examined the Azeri ethnicity; afterwards I dealt with the ways of dwelling the country, in a perspective aimed to link the city of Iğdır with the village of Ortaköy, through an extensive social and road network. The last part is focused on the social organization of the Ortakoy public space.

Full textBetween the requirements of legal security and the requirements of technical security, this thesis adresses the matter the matter of forms of electronic contracts. However, it follows the traditional distinction between the two categories of legal documents : authentc instruments (notarized) and private documents. It tries to examine the currently applicable rules, while bringing forth various questions and unclear aspects resulting from a certain lack of harmonisation amongst theses rules, the multitude of issues raised, the limits of effectiveness of some of these rules as well as the adverse effects that could cause or generate differences in interpretation. .

Full textA firm is first of all human organisation. The economy is based on a political society. Just as there is no economy without an organization, there is no organization without a final goal. Society allows man to survive and develop himself through economic activity. This activity is based on deep human needs. But over time, "society" has drifted, and the administration of "things" has come to replace the former government of people. Now, new managerial methods tend to redefine the role of an economically oriented organization. A philosophical vision of society, firms and man can help us to redefine the foundations of human life

Full textThis thesis deals with a specific dramatic form, the aside, defined as a secret discourse (soliloquy or dialogue) which the speaker conventionally conceals from others on stage. The greatness and decadence of the form are considered through a corpus of examples taken from works which extend over more than three centuries of french drama, from the beginnings of classicism to modern and contemporary drama. This study comes within the frame-work of dramatic stylistics, that is the study of how linguistic form are used in a particular generic discourse, drama dialogue, which, from an enunciative point of view, can be defined as the mimesis of an imaginary conversation. There are three parts in the thesis corresponding to the three main lines of study : 1. Definition of the word and the form (part i ) and dramatic theories (part ii); 2. Linguistic and stylistic study of the aside : how it is put into discourse, on the paradigmatic level, through a comparison of the asides in the corpus (part iii) and on the syntagmatic level, by contrasting the asides with the dialogues in which they are inserted (part iv); 3. Functions of the aside, in relation with a definition of drama as a mimetic genre (mimesis of content and enunciative mimesis)

Full textLet G be a connected Lie group. We show that every complex structure on the total space TG of the tangent bundle of G which is left invariant and such that an orbit with respect to the left translation action is totally real, is induced by a smooth immersion of TG into the complexifixed group of G. For G compact and connected, we also characterize the right invariant complex structures and the biinvariant complex structures on the total space T*G of the cotangent bundle of G which, combined with the tautological symplectic structure, endow T*G with a Kaehler structure. Finally, we study the Ricci curvature of these Kaehler structures
