Full textThe present study is concerned with the use of cai in adult education. It is divided into two parts. The first one shows the aims and importance of cost effectiveness analysis and of the internal effectiveness of a given training program. As far as cai is concerned, it is necessary to evaluate the effect of its use on trainee, on trainers and on the whole training system. But computers may be used in many different ways so that one has to base the cost-effectiveness evaluation within the framework of a typology of those uses. The second part of the thesis presents the empirical results of a cost effectiveness evaluation of various training programs. A wide range of cases has been chosen, the differences concerning the qualification of trainees as well as the subject matter and the type of use of computers in training

Full textHow to integrate and with which uses the New Educational Technology (N. E. T. ) to the huge problem of distance computer aided learning (using active pedagogical methods) in manufacturing? It means cooperating existing courseware, to generalise to the learning managers and to the group apprenticeship (role playing and manufacturing simulation games). In each case, these situations must consider the human dimension (individual and social) and the technological dimensions (Computer Science, Multimedia, Networks, for modelling different kinds of exchanges and defining characteristics of computer aided design systems. The aim of our work consists in developing cooperative distance computer aided learning architectures that respond to industrial needs. The concern of these systems is to study in a cooperative computer aided learning context, how to select scenarios characteristics, to do role casting, and how to share useful information. This approach is applied to the world broadcast Lafarge-Coppée courseware and to the CIPE game training

Full textThe subject matter of this thesis is the study and the setting up of a computerised learning programme for mentally deficient people working in a specialised assisted work centre. The fundamental idea behind this programme, which includes series of specialised software specially adapted to this population, both with regard to the contents to be learned and with regard to its presentation, is cognitive remedial work on intellectual handicaps by means of learning and training with learning tasks which closely resemble real tasks from professional and everyday life. The learning principle consists of presenting the information to be learned to be taken up, treated and controlled through facilitating the use of attention span, mental imagery and memorisation. Full textWe can consider that, since a year, the open and distance learning has gone beyond the stage of projects and tests pilote. To understand and discribe the design process of devices and tools for learning and teaching, to problematize the relations of learning, teaching and the relationship to knowledge in the case of open and distance learning, a triple examination has been commited (research in literature, study of three corpus, field study about the design of an e-portfolio. It's allowed to identify some queries. 1) the design process goes on into the use process which leads to ask again initial design ; 2) The representations that have structured the design of the e-portfolio also structured the group of design'actors - according to the hypothesis of Sallaberry ; 3) From Salais and Storper (coordinated action means that the actors have a common framework for action, but outside them likely to be re-built during the action), we have shown that the design of an e-portfolio as aprocess of coordinated action, based on agreements on coordinating the work of design ; 4) Considering artefacts developed in a process of design as objects intermediaries - according to the type of Jeantet and Vink -, we have identified, from the field study about the e-portfolio design process, as symbolic interfaces for structuring representations ans agreements actors on this design process ; 5) Looking after if it was relevant to consider the "report to know instrumented" notion, we have show that the use of an instrumentation in learning's field has an influence on the relationship to knowledge

Full textThis research subject lies within the framework of e-learning engineering and more particularly on-line education. The design of these environments requires both the definition of the learning activity in terms of learning content, and that the support activity. The latter follows the learner knowledge construction and acquisition throughout the course. The assistance given within distance learning is an important issue due to the tutor's potential absence and lack of response to learner expectations during a learning session. Our research focuses particularly on the activity accompaniment design. The case study involves lowing at computer support for the distance learning designer so as to describe the learner accompaniment. We aim to specify roles and tutor involvement and also to describe the tools supporting this activity. Using tutoring activity research studies in distance learning environments we propose a tutoring organisation model, called Triton model. The model becomes the basis for 1) reflection upon the accompaniment that he wants a given learning activity and 2) description of the tutoring organisation in an e-learning platform. From the Triton model, we conceive computer environment, EdiScenE, aimed at being used by an on-line education designer to make a scenario for a pedagogical situation, and specify and choose support tools for the tutoring activity. The idea is to propose a formalism to describe a learning design in terms of learning situation description (learning scenario) and the actors interactions (accompaniment scenario). To permit interoperability and reusability of scenarios in platforms, standards are necessary. This is why we choose the Educational Modelling Language IMS Learning Design, which we propose to extend to enrich of the accompaniment scenario. This extension is based on our tutoring organisation model. The goal is improve the accompaniment by sharpening the description in terms of actors' tasks and roles in the context of on-line education. The EdiScenE prototype was tested in the context of several departments. These tests showed the pertinence of the tutoring organisation model that we put forth for describing an accompaniment scenario, integrating a tutoring component description in distance learning environment design

Full textAlthough the official programs of mathematics recommend the use of the spreadsheet since the junior high school and although the resources intended to help the teachers multiply, the integration of this tool remains very marginal in France today. To understand the difficulties which arise, we focus on the domain of the transition arithmetic-algebra where the spreadsheet is identified by the didactic researches as particularly useful for mathematical learning. The instrumental approach which we adopt allows to study the theoretical potentialities of the spreadsheet in connection with the learning of the algebra, and to question the research works in this domain, notably by showing the weak part they make for the crucial questions of instrumental genesis and management of these geneses by the teachers and the school institution. These theoretical analyses are then used to build an exploratory engineering in class of 5th, to analyze resources proposed on the site of the Ministry of Education, and finally to compare the conceptions of trainees teachers to those of teachers expert in using and teaching lCT. The obtained results widen our didactic knowledge of the questions of technological integration, beyond even the particular technology studied in the thesis. They offer perspectives from the point of view of the educational resources, of the training of the teachers, and of the tools themselves notably by introducing the notion of instrumental distance. It remains to know, and we gave some elements, how to measure this distance. .

Full textThis action research was meant to design digitised learning resources as an integrated complement to a specific teaching context. In the light of current theoretical knowledge on second language acquisition and the use of information and communication technology, a learning system was implemented in which the resources had the role of developing explicit knowledge. Once in operation the resources were assessed through detailed measurements. They fulfil their function to the learners’ satisfaction although parts of their contents and aspects of their layout need amending. Using such resources entails that teachers should assume new functions requiring new skills. This action research, prompted by a sense of deontological responsibility, led to the achievement of greater theoretical expertise and the adoption of more reliable teaching practices. Thanks to rigorous methodology the hypotheses have been validated and the practices can be transferred to other contexts

Full textThis thesis studies the general problems of information systems design and, more particularly, the Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS). The human errors are current but often neglected phenomena, in the process of development of the interactive systems for human training. This memory aims at the improvement of training's quality by explicitly taking into account of the errors. We apply our study to the critical case of the automated risky systems and in particular to the aeronautical systems, for which the human errors can have very heavy consequences. Within this framework, we propose to classify the errors in three main categories (knowledge, ergonomy, psychology) according to their origins in order to offer a better management of them. The use of the formalism of qualitative simulation founded on an analysis of learner's history enables us to obtain an adaptive evaluation method usable in real time. A Pedagogical Agent belongs to a Multi-Agent System (SMA) enabling to design a modular and distributed architecture, and which can embark multiple expertises as well as the capabilities to manage several types of errors. The SMA ensures the immediate and differed feedback on the learner's actions, as well as the contact with the human instructor. The professional application (European project ASIMIL "Aero user-friendly SIMulation based dIstance Learning", aiming at designing a whole range of computer-assisted tools for the distance training to the personnel of the civil aviation) enabled us to implement our approach of design based on the cognitive aspects and to highlight the contribution of the qualitative methods for a cognitive approach of the Pedagogical Agent to manage the learner's feedback using an enriched model (knowledge, human engineering, psychology)

Full textThe fabrication of intagrated circuits requires a control of material planarization. Thus Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) process appears necessary to planarize, to reveal and insulate copper interconnections, and to optimize electrical performance and fabrication cost. The aim of this study is to characterize, to build a model of copper planarization, evolution of dishing copper lines and érosion diélectric lines after CMP, and then to propose design rules. Moreover, electromigration and stress-induced voiding are becoming key issues to determine the reliability of copper dual damascene metallization of integrated circuits. However, stress voiding has been observed in the copper lines after their fabrication. Therefore, copper voids and materials of interconnects have been characterized. In addition, mechanical stress distribution and volume dilatation in a copper line are determined. This résults brings to light the probable cause of these void in the copper line

Full textThe purpose of this thesis is to establish a software system aiding the prevision, the design and the management of drainage networks. The reasons that led us to develop this system and the advantages of using it are given in the first part. In fact, the existing tools do not have all expected requirements. The functions of the new generation of tools are then deduced. · Among these are a technical function (allowing to perform the necessary studies), a pedagogical function (allowing, the user to be formed with the manipulated concepts at the time of studies) and an analysis function (allowing to advise the user while proceeding with a project). The second part is devoted to the analysis of these functions. The technical function and the tasks covered by it are first detailed. The problem related to the pedagogical function in then tackled : its objective, the methods of introduction and the retained orientations. The analysis function is finally presented : its contents and the envisaged orientations. In the third part, the general structure of the system is showed, followed by the engineering application structure which allows the implementation of the technical function. The didactic organisation and the expert system are then fixed, allowing the implementation of the pedagogical and the analysis functions

Full textThis dissertation lies within the fields of Second Language Acquisition and Computer-Assisted Language Learning integrating a task-based learning approach while focusing on lexical acquisition. This study was developed following the observation that websites are frequently used in the foreign language class yet little research has been done to examine the impact that the use of l websites has on the students’ acquisition of the language. The purpose of this research is to examine the impact of the websites on lexical learning in the foreign language classroom. The participants in this study are university students enrolled in a conversational language class, Their language level range from advanced beginners to advanced intermediate learners. Websites are integrated into the course curriculum through the use of Blackboard (a course management system) and studied outside of class to prepare for in class communicative tasks. The study presents a description of the communicative tasks carried out by the students as well as the Internet websites used in the execution of the communicative tasks. Comparisons are then made between the language produced by the learners during the tasks and the lexical items present on the websites

The different theoretical currents treating the behavior of individuals towards the technological innovation utilization permit to identify variables that influence the adoption of e-learning. This study is focused on the model of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology elaborated by Venkatesh and Davis (2003). This model contains individual and organizational factors. Empirical study is conducted on a sample of 392 Tunisian postal workers. Factor analysis and structural equations were used. Our results show that the adoption of e-learning in the post is influenced primarily by the self-image, technical assistance and perceived ease of use. As for the involvement of senior management and influence colleagues, they are two variables that were most significant respectively at the unregistered and registered

Full textThis Ph.D. took the shape of a partnership between the VORTEX team in the computer science research laboratory IRIT and the company Andil, which specializes in software for e-learning. This partnership was concluded around a CIFRE Ph.D. This plan is subsidized by the French state through the ANRT. The Ph.D. student, Angela Bovo, worked in Université Toulouse 1 Capitole. Another partnership was built with the training institute Juriscampus, which gave us access to data from real trainings for our experiments. Our main goal for this project was to improve the possibilities for monitoring students in an e-learning training to keep them from falling behind or giving up. We proposed ways to do such monitoring with classical machine learning methods, with the logs from students' activity as data. We also proposed, using the same data, indicators of students' behaviour. With Andil, we designed and produced a web application called GIGA, already marketed and sold, and well appreciated by training managers, which implements our proposals and served as a basis for first clustering experiments which seem to identify well students who are failing or about to give up. Another goal of this project was to study the capacities of the human brain inspired machine learning algorithm Hierarchical Temporal Memory (HTM), in its Cortical Learning Algorithm (CLA) version, because its base hypotheses are well adapted to our problem. We proposed ways to adapt HTM-CLA to classical machine learning functionalities (clustering, classification, regression, prediction), in order to compare its results to those of more classical algorithms; but also to use it as a basis for a behaviour generation engine, which could be used to create an intelligent tutoring system tasked with advising students in real time. However, our implementations did not get to the point of conclusive results

Full textThis research aims at studying online interactions in a social network that is specific to teaching and learning French as a Foreign Language (FFL). It questions the way the virtual environment incorporates with the training device so to provide new contexts of interactions and language learning. The data used for this research belong to an academic and language learning context which enabled an ecological analysis of the uses.Furthermore a discourse analysis from various participants was undertaken to highlight their impressions of the device, the noticed affordances and their appropriation with the online environment. This study contributes at elaborating useful tools for the analysis of participation and a better understanding of social interactions in the case of a mediated communication in a pedagogical context. The analyses are based on (1) participative activities, their conversational and enunciative format, (2) the various participation modes and relationnal social commitment that flourishes in a socio-pedagogical network and (3) the spatial and attentionnal features that are specific to a virtual learning environment. The study shows that there are few uses of the socio-pedagogical network, and the various ones that have been noticed did not benefit from the network’s wide access, conversational and social design. As a certain number of affordances have been noted by the participants, few of them were used in the case of our study. Considering those limited uses, the analysis tries to spot the restraints and obstacles to these changing practices by taking into account the participant’s discourse and suggested activities. From this observation, the research suggests didactical guidelines that include this social and relational challenge - and to consider this socio-pedagogical network as an environment which mediates social activities and digital litteracy

Full textThis case study focuses on the integration of digital tools to the teaching and learning of English as a foreign language. It aims to describe and analyse the different processes that contribute to the emergence of the social dimension of autonomy. It is based on the idea that several processes come to the fore during the realization of a situated and mediated collective activity accomplished by small groups of learners. In order to study these processes, a digital storytelling task-project was proposed to groups of learners enrolled in the first year of university of a pre-service English language-training course. The materials designed by the learners were then tested as pedagogical resources by teachers of seven primary schools in France.A systemic modelling of the above activity makes it possible to identify three focus areas that contribute to the emergence of social autonomy. The first relates to the intra group operations of the small groups who accomplished the task-project. The second is the contribution of the community of primary school teachers who tested the teaching materials. The third constitutes the ways in which social digital tools were used by small groups to collaborate and work together. The results from the analyses related to the three focus areas allow for a modelling of certain variables that contribute to the understanding of the emergence of social autonomy

This work is based on the studies of socio cultural psychology concerning cultural formation of the spirit, the role of the tools in mediatized actions, the importance of co-operation. This work adopts the idea according to which the use of a tool reorganizes psychic functions affecting cognitive development. For this reason, the computer, complex instrument, also have an influence on learning. This work supports the idea that formation of teachers is of primary importance so that they can be the true actors of pedagogical changes necessary face the contemporary challenges. The results showed that teaching actions directed by the teacher and mediatized by the computer modify simultaneously pupils and teachers This work suggests that participation itself is the process of appropriation being through it that people learn and develop

A colonic ischemia model was chosen to differentiate between different types of ischemia and determine the extension of an ischemic zone in the different layers of the colonic wall. The evaluation of fluorescence dynamics associated with a machine learning approach made it possible to distinguish between arterial and venous ischemia with a good prediction rate. In the second study, quantitative perfusion assessment showed that the extent of ischemia was significantly larger on the mucosal side, and may be underestimated with an exclusive analysis of the serosal side. Two further studies have revealed that fluorescence imaging can guide the surgeon in real time during minimally invasive adrenal surgery, and that quantitative software fluorescence analysis facilitates the distinction between vascularized and ischemic segments

Full textThe higher education system in Morocco has long been based on traditional face-to-face training. Learners are required to attend all courses sessions throughout their training. At the present time, with the availability of online courses such as MOOC (Massive Open online courses), and the appearance of LMS (Learning management content) platforms like Moodle, several courses in particular and training in general are available free of charge online. The follow-up of distance courses could be a solution to the problem of the massification of higher education in Morocco, contribute to improving the level, improve the motivation and involvement of learners in the use of ICT4E (Information and Communication Technologies for Education). Our research aims to evaluate different hybrid learning situations (face-to-face and distance learning) for Moroccan university learners in coherence with a theoretical framework that is mainly inspired by the activity theory. To concretize our research, we carried out three experiments of hybrid training using MOOC. These experiments were carried out with some university training modules as part of higher education courses in the public and private sectors. The objective of these experiments was to evaluate the motivation, satisfaction and appropriation of this new techno-pedagogical approach and to issue recommendations to the various actors (learners, teachers, institutions) on the integration of hybrid training in higher education in Morocco

Full textThis thesis presents a computer device aimed at helping future FFL teacher training in Colombian universities. It is grounded in text linguistics and aims to contribute to improving the linguistic level of university students currently in training. To do so, this device is based on a textual corpus specifically annotated and labeled thanks to natural language processing (NLP) tools and to manual annotations in XML format. This should allow the development of activities with a formative aim, while also taking into account the needs expressed by the target public (teachers/trainers and their students, the trainees). As explained throughout this thesis, the elaboration of such a system is based on knowledge and skills stemming from several disciplines and/or fields: language didactics, educational engineering, general linguistics, textual linguistics, corpus linguistics, NLP and CALL. The ambition is to provide trainees and trainers in higher education in Colombia with a tool designed according to their needs and their learning aims and objectives. Finally, the originality of this system consists in the choice of target users, the didactic training model implemented and the specificity of the corpus annotated for the activities. It is one of the first CALL systems based on textual linguistics specifically targeted at training future FFL teachers in a non-native language context

Full textOur researches lies within the field of the Computer Environments for the Human Learning and more particularly in the research works led on the help to be brought to a learner in a distance learning via a computer device. In this context, we suggest to plug a system to the existing computer devices of curriculum to help learner in his process of appropriation of the curriculum. Three dimensions appear from the process of appropriation : - The perception of the curriculum (the fact that learner arrests the various elements of the curriculum), - the evaluation (the fact that learner judges the way realized in the curriculum and of what remains to realize), - the regulation (the fact of setting up regulating actions according to the revealing of difficulties). Our works led to the construction of a model of assisting the appropriation based on these three dimensions and in the definition of a set of specifications for the realisation of an environment support of the learner's appropriation. We besides realized a Saafir environment, based on this model, being plugged in curriculum using an explicit model of the curriculum

Full textIn order to improve the predictions ofheterogeneitiesof composition observed on steel ingots at the end of solidification, a numerical study which takes into account the movement and the growth of equiaxed grains has been realized. After a bibliographic part related to the formation of the equiaxed grains, a diphasic approach has been adopted to describe the growth and the remelting of globular grains moving in the liquid bulk. This numerical study was implemented in the computer code SOLill. The movement of the grains has been described in a first part with the assumption that the grains move at the same speed than that of the liquid phase. The results obtained. " showed the influence of the movement and growth-remelting of the grains on solidification, especially in the evolution of the superheated zones. Then, we have taken into account the own movement of the grains which differs from that of the liquid phase. Ln this case, a solid fraction of coherence beyond which grains are imposed to be fixed has been introduced. This study showed that the final macrosegregation is strongly dependent on this fraction of coherency and on the flux density of fragments. Finally, we have demonstrated that it was possible to adjust the input data of the model in order to get a good agreement between the numerical and the experimental results

Full textIn this thesis, we report the results of cosmological hydrodynamical simulations that describe accurately both feedback mecanisms and the chemical enrichment of the interstellar medium. The joint action of the feedback from supernovae (both type II and type Ia) and central black holes controls the conversion of gas into stars and the accretion process responsible for the growth of central black holes. An adequate choice of the efficiency of these feedback mecanisms allows us to reproduce the bimodality observed in the colour distribution of galaxies. In this context, we show that red galaxies satisfy the Faber-Jackson relation whilst blue galaxies reproduce the Tully-Fisher relation quite well. Furthermore, in agreement with observations, massive galaxies have older and more metal-rich stellar populations than the ones of less massive objects. Such an « anti-hierarchical » behaviour is simply a consequence of the complex effects introduced by the feedback sources. Finally, despite the use of a cosmic star formation law to constrain the star formation rate, simulated galaxies present histories of mass assembly that follow observational expectations : red objects show an early and strong star formation activity whilst blue ones display periods of intense activity over larger time scales
