An ultra-dense network is a configuration in which the density of small base stations is greater than or equal to that of the user equipment. Ultra-dense networks are considered as the key technology for 5th generation networks as they can improve the link quality and increase the system capacity. However, in an ultra-dense network, small base stations are densely positioned, so one user equipment may receive signals from two or more small base stations. This may cause

Abstract:
Abstract Supercritical carbon dioxide (ScCO2) can protect shale formation from hydration damage. When ScCO2 is utilized to develop shale oil and gas resources, it is necessary to establish the multi-physics fields coupling model to describe ScCO2 seepage in shale formation. The multi-physics model describing water-based fluid seepage is not capable explaining ScCO2 flow because of a great variation in physical properties of ScCO2 with pressure and temperature. In this study, a thermal–hydro–mechanical coupling model is constructed to describe ScCO2 seepage based on the transport and thermodyna

Abstract:
Effigy Mounds National Monument (EFMO) in northeastern Iowa was proclaimed on October 25, 1949, to protect a significant concentration of Native American burial mounds, many of which were built in the shapes of animals such as bears. Many of these effigy mounds are found atop commanding bluffs flanking the Yellow River at its junction with the Mississippi River. The geology of the monument has not been a central interest in its history, but the rocks contain evidence of millions of years of shallow marine life from the early Paleozoic. Paleozoic fossils were first documented at what is now EFM

Abstract:
This study assesses the geothermal potential of Hot Sedimentary Aquifers underlying the Horn River Basin (HRB) based on analyses of borehole temperatures, geological and production data, core porosity and permeability measurements, and geophysical well logs. The proposed criteria are applied to evaluate the geothermal potential of the Horn River Group (HRG) and sub-HRG formations. Favourable spots are identified and ranked by applying temperature, thickness, porosity, permeability and flow rate mapping. The results show that the HRG and its underlying strata have a good potential of geothermal

Abstract:
Vicksburg National Military Park (VICK) was established for its historical significance as a one of the principle military sieges resulting in a turning point during the American Civil War. The steep terrain around the city of Vicksburg was integral in the military siege, providing high vantage points and a substrate that was easy to entrench for the armies, but unknown to many is the fossil content, particularly a diversity of fossil mollusks. These fossils at VICK are important paleontological resources which have yet to receive focused attention from park staff, visitors, and researchers. T

Abstract:
The Geological Survey of Canada conducted a broad regional study of the Magdalen Basin in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, as part of the Marine Conservation Targets initiative. MCT is a national initiative to protect more of Canada's offshore areas, and resource assessment and related regional mapping are part of the review process. This study assembled a large seismic and geologic database that allowed new regional mapping of several key horizons in this basin. Digital seismic data was donated by industry, and reprocessing undertaken both in-house and with contractors. Wells were correlated and top

Abstract:
The Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB) covers a large part of southern Saskatchewan and hosts many resources such as critical mineral deposits (i.e. potash, helium and lithium) as well as oil and gas reservoirs and is also targeted for deep CO2 storage projects. There is also growing interest in the groundwater resources, the geothermal potential and hydrogen recovery potential. These applications require knowledge of the subsurface geology such as formation thickness and depth, relationships with adjacent formations or unconformities and ultimately, distribution of physical properties
