Full textThis thesis concerns shape matching and shape retrieval. It describes four contributions to thisdomain. The first is an improvement of the k-means method, in order to find the best partition ofvoxels inside a given shape ; these best partitions permit to match shapes using an optimal matchingin a bipartite graph. The second contribution is the fusion of two descriptors, one local, the otherglobal, with the product rule. The third contribution considers the complete graph, the vertices ofwhich are the shapes in the database and the query. Edges are labelled with several distances, one per descriptor. Then the method computes, with linear programming, the convex combinationof distances which maximizes either the sum of the lengths of all shortest paths from the query toall shapes of the database, or the length of the shortest path in the graph from query to the currentshape compared to query. The fourth contribution consists in perturbing the shape query, to make itcloser to shapes in the database, for any given descriptors. This method is massively parallel and amulti-agent architecture is proposed. These methods are compared to classical methods in the field, they achieve better retrieval performances

Full textThis dissertation deals with a specific type of corporate remodelling called restructuring. The main hypothesis goes as follows: a corporate restructuring goes through the close linking of mechanics and a mystique setting up a three-element configuration within which myths, rituals and tribes are mutually supportive. In other words, mobilizing change forces happens through a mobilization of meaning buttressed by mediations and mediators who translate it and embody it within what is fundamentally the linking of a (symbolic) legitimacy and an (objective and operational) factuality at the juncture of forces and meaning. The demonstration will unfold through three moments. -first, a review of the existing literature will evidence a certain number of prevailing normative archetypes that refer to the existence of a utopian problemizing focused on radical renewal patterns instead of fixing schemes and this within a specific context where managerial scientism meets a desire of reenchantment. -second, a case study: the restructuring of the jerada coal mine (morocco) by the author between 1992 and 1994. Through a " reflective practitioner" posture and a "reflection in action" stance as inspired by donald schoen, the author reconstructs the composite genealogy of a specific case of restructuring as rooted in symbolic and material terrains, economic and institutional resources, identity-powered and profane levers. At the end of this investigation and the evidencing of a certain number of memories and reactivations related to moroccan history, the author sets to call his method of corporate realignment as a "neo-maraboutic" model of restructuring resulting from interactions and grafts between heterogeneous rationalities: the classical tradition of moroccan maraboutic power, the problematic of coal mining, modernistic and managerial acculturation, islam as background and foreground; -third, a certain number of oblique lights on the basis of two case studies (one initiated by the author and still in progress since 1996: lesieur, the other one dealing with the ratp experience under blanc's management from 1989 to 1992) will allow for a second reading of the jerada experience as well as some theoretical revisions specifically with regard to the so-called political model of corporate transformation. Such cross-confrontations reinforce the main hypothesis of successful corpora

Full textNowdays, we are witnessing a high expansion of the mobile and wireless devices market. In this context, the Java technology is emerging as a standard execution environment due to its appealing features such as mobility, portability and security. In particular, The J2ME/CLDC platform (Java 2 Micro Edition for Connected Limited Device Configuration) is dedicated to the Java application development for mobile devices and embedded systems. The J2ME/CLDC platform is equipped with a light Java virtual machine, called KVM (Kilobyte Virtual Machine). The main issue of this virtual machine is its performance due to the interpretation mechanism. Consequently, there is a real need to design and implement acceleration techniques for the KVM. Moreover, constraints of wireless and mobile devices in terms of footprint, computation and energy consumption should be considered in the design of these techniques. The main objectives of this thesis are the design and the implementation of acceleration techniques dedicated to the Java virtual machine for the J2ME/CLDC platform. We also intent to elaborate a semantic model to formally capture the bytecode language of the J2ME/CLDC platform. The main research results that achieved these objectives are : 1. The design and implementation of a dynamic selective compiler that speeds up the KVM by a rate of 400%. Other acceleration techniques has been designed and implemented to enhance the method call mechanism. 2. The elaboration of a denotational semantic model with continuations that supports the particular features of the Java language : concurrency, unbounded nondeterminism, escaping constructs and data. 3. The specification of the bytecode language of the J2ME/CLDC platform in the elaborated semantic model.

Full textPresent research proposes to study the representation of the perception of the actors to live it who aspire only to the adaptability of their world of life [ inhabited space ]. This research leaves thus the framework of the limits which aim at structuring space to live it only in its morphology, its hiring and its conceptual mode. It very often applies to that which corresponds to the reality of the activities to live it, to be conditioned by the political decisions significantly. This reality acts as a force which pushes us with better including/understanding it. And beyond knowknowing how enracine and is based the experiment of the world of the life which is established within a particular framework, the town of Guelma (city of the Algerian east). By referring to the interpretation of Husserl (Ideas 1) on the categorial of the world of the life which carries very high the smell of space to live it. Ln this logic, if the field of the singularities of the activities to live it inserts to be it - with-world, the thought of Hôlderlinienne: ("the human one lives as a poet ", poem: "Grouhd cmd sky "), the •representation of the perception of the space of the habter gives the question: the human one does it live as a poet with Guelma? On this prospect fundamental this thesis is constituted which makes world of the life, a space to live it poetic which one could define it only through the practices which appear in the gestures, the word, the evaluation, the dream, the flanery, the emotional significance of the daily landscape, the personal stories. This research tends to show that the shape of the city is strongly related to logics of the world of the life, with the being - with—world, the residential time lived built at the rates/rhythms of the form of the life. It is also strongly subordinated to the idea to conceive, adapt and adapt the space to live it (housing, district and city) which comes from the values and the distinctions that each one allots to space to live it town of Guelma

Full textAlzheimer's disease remains in 2012 a real public health issue. This neurodegenerative disease is the focal point of many scientific research projects regarding its physiopathological, neuropsychological, imaging or therapeutic aspects, both in animal or human models. Neuroscience has been trying for decades to understand the mechanisms of its origin and evolution, in order to slow down, at the earliest stages possible, the resulting cognitive and behavioral impairment as well as the autonomy loss. Thanks to numerous technological progresses, in particular in neuroimaging, clinicians and researchers have at their disposal more and more performing tools to help diagnosis and enlarge our knowledge about the disease. In a first part, we will see how, using combined clinical anatomical and biological markers, we can better define a population of patients affected by sporadic prodromal Alzheimer's disease, and how those markers enable us to go ahead with the understanding of the physiopathological processes causing the disease. We will then address, in a second part, the genetic aspect of Alzheimer's disease, through two clinical cases. Finally, we will see how, by means of a study upon visual information processing, we can try to better assess some of the cerebral dysfunctions that involve early affected regions, with the purpose of a better knowledge of the impaired neuronal networks

Full textIn the last decade, the complexity of embedded systems has exploded and the usual industrial design flows do not suffice any more to propose reliable products while respecting time to market constrain. Thus, developing new design methodologies has become an imperative. The thesis aims at the improvement of the methodologies of conception of the embedded systems. It proposes a method for assisting the process of refinement along the design flow. The proposed approach splits the design flow into multiple-levels, in order to guide the designer in the design process, from the most abstract model down to a synthesizable model. Furthermore, by using formal techniques the method allows to check the preservation of functional correctness along the design flow

Full textTo respond to the emerging resistance of Plasmodium falciparum to artemisin derivatives, many strategies are currently under discussion. Among them, adding another antimalarial drug to the existing bi-therapies has been proposed. Among the possible third drugs, Methylene Blue (MB) is a good candidate as it present many advantages: early access to a pure active ingredient responding to pharmacopeia grade, a low manufacturing cost, and a proven efficacy against asexual stages of multiresistant malaria strains associated with a strong anti-gametocidal activity responsible for transmission. Many clinical trials demonstrated MB efficacy in malaria treatment, however no galenic research was done to improve its bioavailability and antimalarial activity, reduce side effects and improve patient adherence to treatment. Our research concentrated on two complementary directions: In order to improve MB bioavailability in solution, we encapsulated it with nucleolipids (diC16dT and DOTAU), and tested its antimalarial efficacy in vitro. This nanoformulation partially protected MB against reduction and light degradation, without alteration of its antimalarial efficacy against two P. falciparum strains (chloroquinosensitive and multiresistant). To propose access to an optimized oral form, gastro-resistant tablets were developed. Use of a humid granulation process allowed to obtain a granule highly dosed in MB, easier to handle, with better physico-chemical characteristics. We obtained homogeneous tablets with variable options in drug dosage. A gastro-resistant coating was added, with the aim to eliminate the vomiting side effect and improve compliance. Complementary evaluation of the proposed formulations (nanonucleolipids and gastro-resistant tablets) will be conducted to confirm their interest and evaluate their industrial feasibility under Good Manufacturing Practices. A clinical evaluation of the tablets is currently considered by an international MB – malaria consortium newly created

s home, one&rsquo

s life in a new environment. Several books have been published tracking the lives of the forcibly removed and their responses to leaving District Six. My research focuses on a different group namely those who had been forcibly removed from the centre of Stellenbosch, called &ldquo
Die Vlakte&rdquo
during that time. Living and working with and among people who have experienced this removal, I was keen to research whether the impact of the trauma is currently
manifesting in this specific community and if so, what the symptoms would be. This qualitative inquiry focuses on one particular individual, Mr. Hilton Biscombe. I selected him because he, who experienced the removal as a teenager, spent most of his later life determinedly collecting stories and documents relating to this incident. Mr. Biscombe is also the only person of whom I am aware who responded personally through compiling a book, making a DVD, writing poetry as well as an autobiography relating to this event. My inquiry into the ways trauma manifests in a narrative, will be based on two interviews: one conducted by a white man from the University of Stellenbosch thirty years after the event
and another interview, six years later, conducted by myself. Our understanding of trauma is usually associated with a death or injury or the possibility thereof, but it could also include the victim&rsquo
s response to extreme fear, serious harm or threat to
family members. According to van der Merwe and Vienings, people also become traumatized when witnessing harm, physical violence or death or the sudden loss or destruction of a victim&rsquo
s home (van der Merwe &
Vienings, 2001). So the issue of trauma is not in question, nor the fact that forced removals cause trauma. I am exploring testimony in the form of interviews for possible current manifestations of this trauma thirty-six years down the line.

Full textThe purpose is to contribute to the development of a morphosemantic model of interpretation for a textual semantics. We take interest in particular in the adequacy between the theory (Interpretative Semantics) and a model inspired by Gestalttheory and the Theory of Semantic Forms. To that end, we formulate several proposals :(i) Theoretical ones that aim, by restoring Interpretative Semantics within the scope of european structural semantics, and especially lexematics, at enhancing the adequacy between the structural and gestalt theories. (ii) Descriptive ones, within the scope of the morphosemantic model, focussing mainly on the " isotopy " concept and the question of temporalization of the interpretative paths (semantic rhythms). These proposals are supported by two analyses : the first one deals with a sonnet written by Baudelaire (Tristesses de la Lune), the second is about a corpus of 113 definitions produced by as many speakers to whom a text was submitted, text in wich a word was to be defined

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to provide an explicite description of the moduli spaces of genus 3 hyperelliptic curves in positive characteristic. Over a field of characteristic zero or odd, a parame- terization of these moduli spaces is given via the algebra of invariants of binary forms of degree 8 under the action of the special linear group. After the work of Lercier and Ritzenthaler, the case of fields of characteristic 3, 5 and 7 are still open. However, in these remaining case, the classical methods in characteristic zero do not work in order to provide generators for these algebra of invariants. Hence we provide only separating invariants in characteristic 3 and 7. Furthermore our results in characteristic 5 show this approach is not suitable. From these results, we describe the stratification of the moduli spaces of genus 3 hyperelliptic curves in characteristic 3 and 7 according to the automorphism groups of the curves and imple- ment algorithms to reconstruct a curve from its invariants. For this reconstruction stage, we paid attention to arithmetic issues, like the obstruction to be a field of definition for the field of moduli. Finally, in the characteristic 2 case, we use a different approach, given that the curves are defined by their Artin-Schreier models. The arithmetic structure of the ramification points of these curves stratify the moduli space in 5 cases and we define in each case invariants that characterize the isomorphism class of hyperelliptic curves

Full textThis thesis seeks to question the imaginary around the "Euro-Mediterranean dialogue", a topos inspired by - and unfolding since - the 1995 Barcelona Declaration and the ensuing Neighborhood Policies. It focuses on three case studies that it analyses according to an interdisciplinary approach. The first part examines both the construction and circulation of a so-called "Mediterranean cinema", and the knowledge around this supposed regional production in the context of four festivals dedicated to it and taking place in Algiers, Brussels, Montpellier and Tetouan. The second part examines the concerns raised by programs selected for support by the European Union through Euromed Audiovisuel and Marseille-Provence Capitale européenne de la culture (Marseille-Provence, European Capital of Culture). These concerns are addressed through an analysis of the discourse produced by these programs and the films funded by them. The third and last part proposes an analysis of the film Zanj Revolution (Thawra Zanj, Tariq Teguia, Algeria/France/Lebanon/Qatar, 2013) and, by extension, examines the way in which questions related to the mise-en-langue, subtitling and editing that inform this film are present in other films. The intertwined study of festivals, of institutional programs dedicated to cultural productions and of films sheds light on the aesthetic and political implications of a dominant imaginary of "dialogue" and "Mediterranean cinema". The thesis also explores forms and practices that articulate voices, languages, points of view and narratives that are capable of weaving an alternative imaginary of the Mediterranean and of the histories and the relations between the people who happen to live in this space

Full textformes naturelles.

Full textStarting from the definition of any space as a perceptive continuum, and after having introduced the crucial notion of dimension, form is considered as what enables our perception of space, by setting a cut (boundary) in the space of displacements. Conceptual and material operations dealing with forms, operations which are common to mankind as a whole, but are most often performed by geographers and architects, lead to the fondamental concepts of geometry. Yet these concepts, which have effictively governed our conception of space and forfis for centuries, are unhelpful to handle some forms, especially many natural forms. Operations must be replaced by processes, the essential princip les of which are the notions of iteration and attractor. Generative processes yield new concepts, like self-similarity and fractal dimension, which elaborate without contradiction the classical geometrical concepts. Such pro cesses (IFS, L-systems, cellular automata), carriéd out in the digital space, show how simple and deterministic rules may lead to complex and sometimes unpredictable, though specific, forms. They offer new possibilities for analysis and for invention of forms in geography as well as in architecture, and contribute to teach a different way of looking upon space and forms

Full textThe present thesis focuses on finding out the specific effects of a sexually traumatic experience and more generally on modelling the broadening of any trauma. It especially discusses the notion of traumatic informity by which an experience is impacted not simply in terms of its content, but also in terms of its essence, outline, and shape. Faced with these extreme clinical situations where the patient struggles in a most often paradoxical situation, the clinician must deal with the muddle of traumatic scenes characterizing his or her patient’s background, when the latter never completely gives up configurating his or her experience and topically situating it. In order to unearth the effects of the trauma as well as its ability to shape the experience, it is necessary to imagine a topique at the core of which the wandering psychic elements as the way they are attracted to each other - in such a way as to configurate and symbolize the experience - are at stake. This topique can be represented as a cylinder which can be unfolded into Möbius strips, and it contains the patient’s identity. The creases symbolize the places where psychic matter takes shape and broadens out. This cylinder, where the traumatic experience is at stake in opposed pairs and where the patient’s efforts to define it can be read, can only be envisioned as part of an intersubjective model. In this perspective, because traumatic economies necessitate pondering on health care measures and on the therapist’s level of engagement, it is easier for one to see how much more valuable a consultation with two clinical psychologists is. A significant part of this research work involves the study of the congruity of this “co-thought” with the new way of modelling a trauma. This research work leaves much room for clinical practice through long accounts retracing the patients’ history of traumatic experiences, as the two psychologists resituate the patient’s trauma’s broadening (sometimes over the course of ten years) during the intensity of the sessions, exchanges, and interactions
