Abstract:
The formex formulation of the topological configuration, geometry, load and support conditions of self-supporting or free-standing transmission towers is presented. In the formulation, a natural normat coordinate system is used. The tower topology is formulated according to member types and orientations within the tower. The formex formulation is implemented as a preprocessor for a general elasto-plastic nonlinear large displacement analysis program for transmission tower structures. The data generated from the formex formulation is transformed into an AutoLISP file that can be loaded and used by AutoCAD. Throughout the paper, it is assumed that the readers are familiar with the basic concept and terminology used in formex algebra.

In this work, a formex procedure is presented in order to provide a conceptually consistent method of formex formulation in the context of substructure analysis. Grids composed of beams with multiple web openings are treated for which substructuring is well suited. An open web beam can be regarded as an assembly of typical units. Formex formulations are produced for such typical units and for the whole assembly. The concepts of plenices are also employed in order to organise a suitable system for a formex representation of partitioned configurations. Also, a formex function is introduced which makes it possible to generate some distorted configurations from regular patterns. A reader with no familiarity with formex algebra may wish to consult Ref. 2 or Ref. 6 for a brief sketch of formex algebra and Ref. 7 for a quick reference on plenices.

Abstract:
The term ‘configuration’ refers to an arrangement of parts. For example, the elements of a structure constitute a configuration and so do the atoms of a molecule and the components of an electrical network. The most common usage of the term configuration is in reference to geometric compositions that consist of points, lines, surfaces and so on. The term ‘configuration processing’ refers to the skill of dealing with creation and manipulation of configurations. In particular, the term ‘formex configuration processing’ implies configuration processing with the aid of ‘formex algebra’. Formex algebra is evolved to perform processes needed for configuration processing, just as the ordinary algebra is evolved to perform operations needed for creation and manipulation of numerical models. The term ‘formex’ is derived from the word ‘form’ and it is meant to imply a ‘representation of form’. This article has two main objectives. The first objective is to provide a general feeling of how the elements of formex algebra perform configuration processing. This objective is achieved through simple examples, without involvement in too many details. It will be seen that working with parameters is a natural characteristic of formex configuration processing. Thus, a formex solution is, normally, for a class of problems rather than an individual one. This would allow consideration of different variants of a configuration by simply changing the values of the parameters. It will also be seen the ease with which freeforms can be created. The coverage also includes information about ‘Formian’ which is the name of the computer software for formex configuration processing. The second objective of this article is to record the story of the development of formex algebra from the beginnings in the mid-1970s to the middle of the second decade of the 21st century, covering some 40 years of development. Formex configuration processing is an effective and elegant conceptual tool for generation and manipulation of forms. However, there are also other approaches to configuration processing. In particular, there are now a number of highly successful software systems for configuration processing using various tactics. Formex algebra will be a natural complement for these systems.

Abstract:This paper describes the adaptation of the formex configuration processing to the computer program Grasshopper 3D and focuses on the applied mathematical solutions. Formex algebra is a mathematical system, primarily used for planning structural systems like truss-grid domes and vaults, together with the programming language Formian. The goal of the research is to allow architects to plan truss-grid structures easily with parametric design tools based on the versatile formex algebra mathematical system. To produce regular structures, coordinate system transformations are used. Owing to the abilities of the parametric design software, it is possible to apply further modifications on the structures and gain special forms. The paper covers the basic dome types, and it introduces additional dome-based structures using special coordinate-system solutions based on a spherical coordinate system, vault structures and their modifications based on a cylindrical coordinate system and circular structures and their modifications based on polar coordinates. Moreover two rotational grid tools are introduced, which uses coordinate system transformations on a unique way to create surfaces of revolutions based on the given generating curve and create grid structures on these surfaces. It also describes the solution technique to implement the triangular grid version of every one of these tools based on diamatic domes. The adaptation of formex algebra and the parametric workflow of Grasshopper together give the possibility of quick and easy design and optimization of special truss-grid domes.

Abstract:
EPX-2R is a high-performance plastic explosive produced for different applications. EPX-2R is based on RDX (1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazinane) bonded by the elastic matrix of the softened styrene butadiene binder. A computerizing mixer plastograph was used for the production of EPX-2R. The internal energy of combustion was measured and used to determine the enthalpy of formation. Friction and impact sensitivities were measured. The velocity of detonation was determined experimentally, and the detonation properties were calculated by the EXPLO 5 code. For comparison, traditional plastic explosives, composition C-4, Semtex 10, Formex P1, EPX-1, and Sprängdeg m/46, were studied. It was concluded that the velocity of detonation of EPX-2R was higher than the studied samples except composition C-4, while its sensitivity is the lowest. Interesting inversely proportional relationship between the measured internal energy of combustion and the calculated heat of detonation was observed.

cis-1,3,4,6-Tetranitrooctahydroimidazo-[4,5 d]imidazole (BCHMX) has been studied as explosive filler to replace pentaerythritol tetra-nitrate (PETN) inEPX1 explosive. BCHMX with different particle sizes was bonded by thermoplastic binder plasticised by dibutyl phthalate to obtain BCHMX-EPX. Heat of combustion was measured. Impact energy and friction force of initiation were determined. Velocity of detonation was measured, while the detonation characteristics were calculated by thermodynamic code named EXPLO 5. For comparison, the detonation characteristics of some commercial plastic explosives such asEPX-1, SEMTEX 10 and FORMEX P1were also studied. It was concluded that BCHMX-EPX has the highest detonation characteristics of all the studied plastic explosives and its sensitivity is in the same level of the studied traditional plastic explosives. BCHMX-EPX has the highest decomposition temperature of all the studied samples. The mutual relationship obtained from the experimental and calculated results indicates the compatibility of the calculated results with the experimental measurements.

EPX-1 is a new plastic explosive (in the research stage) which has been prepared for military and civilian applications. EPX-1 explosive contains pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) with different particle size as explosive filler bonded by nonenergetic thermoplastic binder plasticized by dibutyl phthalate (DBP). In this paper, the production method of EPX-1 was described. The crystal morphology was studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Heat of combustion was determined experimentally. The compatibility of PETN with the polymeric matrix was studied by vacuum stability test. Sensitivities to impact and friction were measured. The detonation velocity was measured experimentally and the detonation characteristics were calculated by EXPLO5 thermodynamic code. For comparison, Semtex 1A, Semtex 10, Formex P1, and Sprängdeg m/46 were studied. It was concluded that PEX-1 has compatible ingredients, it has the highest detonation velocity of all the studied plastic explosives, and its sensitivity is in the same level of the studied plastic explosives except Semtex 1A.

Abstract:
Using actor network theory (ANT) as a starting point, the aim of the paper is to describe relationships between heterogenous actors in a particular kind of library work and to discuss how these relationships might potentially be part of a preliminary actor-network representing a profession of librarianship. The particular kind of library work involved in the discussion is user teaching and -guidance in libraries affiliated with educational institutions. The paper draws on this particular kind of work to illustrate the use of ANT in a discussion about the profession of librarianship. The data collection procedure has been guided by ethnographic methodology considerations. As an actor-network, a profession is not a static entity organised around fixed connections. It is undergoing shifts in character as new actors or relations are forged and old ones wear out. Regarding the particular kind of library work, the paper has a focus on actors such as librarians, teachers, students, digital technologies, and political paradigms of control. The author examines how librarians in the particular kind of library work create and maintain relationships with teachers and students. The paper provides a description of the ways influential actors such as digital technologies and political paradigms of control intervene in these processes. The paper concludes that through these relationships, new areas of work and new understandings of professions are under way to be established. These processes might lead to an actor-network intertwined with those many other actor-networks that librarians in general are involved in because of other practices and relationships.

Formel frivillighed og uformel hjælp er begge kategorier under fællesbetegnelsen civilt engagement. Der er tale om begreber, der i de senere år har fået en stadig større opmærksomhed, men som det dog alligevel har været svært at afgrænse. Denne artikels formål er at belyse, hvordan sociale ressourcer og netværk indvirker på folks deltagelse i frivilligt arbejde. Der er tale om en analyse af Danmark anno 2012. Et vigtigt resultat i den empiriske analyse er, at der ikke er den store forskel på personer, der er aktive i enten formel frivillighed eller uformel hjælp, men forskellen er nok større i forhold til personer, der ikke er frivillige. Socialisering spiller dog en væsentlig rolle. Personer, der er vokset op med frivillighed, er mere tilbøjelige til at udføre formel frivillighed end andre. For dem, som udfører uformel hjælp, har tradition for frivillighed mindre betydning. Her er det primært styrken af de tætte sociale netværk, som er afgørende. Den gruppe, som adskiller sig mest fra de inaktive, er gruppen, der udfører begge former for frivillighed. Gruppen af dobbeltengagerede er kendetegnet ved at have flere ressourcer, stærkere sociale netværk, mere tillid til andre personer og dedikere meget tid til frivillighed. De har med andre ord meget social kapital. ENGELSK ABSTRACT: Jonathan Hermansen and Thomas P. Boje: Formal Volunteering and Informal Help. Two Different Forms of Civil Engagement? Formal volunteering and informal help are both examples of civic engagement. They are concepts, which have received increasing attention in recent years. The aim of this article is to analyze how social resources and networks affect the propensity to undertake formal volunteering and informal help. The data is from a survey of volunteering in Denmark from 2012. An important result of the empirical analysis is that there is little difference between the people who are engaged in formal volunteer work or informal help, but there is a difference between them and those people who are not active. Socialization, however, plays a significant role. People, who grew up with volunteering as a family tradition, are more likely to engage in formal volunteering. In contrast, a tradition of volunteering does not have significant impact on whether you informally help others. Rather, it appears that the strength of the close social networks (”bonding social capital”) is crucial for informal helping. People engaged in both types of civic engagement differ remarkably from the group that is not active in any type of volunteering. People engaged in both types of civic engagement possess more social resources and stronger social networks. They have more trust in other people and they spend much time volunteering. Проанализировано формирование древесной растительности на бывших сельскохозяйственных угодьях на территории муниципального образования «Игринский район» Республики Удмуртия. Указанная территория относится к подзоне южной тайги и входит в состав южно-таежного лесного района европейской части Российской Федерации. На основании данных натурных обследований и дешифрирования космических снимков высокого пространственного разрешения предпринята попытка определения площади пашни, зарастающей древесной растительностью, после исключения ее из активного сельскохозяйственного оборота. На основе почвенных карт, составленных специалистами акционерного общества Агрохимцентр «Удмуртский», проведено сопоставление доминирующих в составе формирующихся молодняков видов древесных пород с характеристиками почв. Установлено, что в составе формирующихся молодняков на бывших пашнях доминируют береза повислая (Betula pendula Roth.), ель европейская (Picea abies (L.) Korst.), сосна обыкновенная (Pinus sylvestris L.) и различные виды ив (Salix L.). Состав формирующихся молодняков зависит от многих факторов, в том числе от типа и гранулометрического состава почв. Наличие во всех формирующихся молодняках сосны и ели свидетельствует о возможности формирования высокопроизводительных смешанных насаждений. С учетом специфики лесорастительных условий и особенностей формирования насаждений на бывших пашнях рекомендуется разработка системы лесоводственных мероприятий в подобных насаждениях. The article deals with the formation of woody vegetation on the territory of the municipal formation «Igrinskiy region» of the Republic of Udmurtia. The territory belongs to the subzone of the southern taiga and is the part of the Southern taiga forest region of the Russia Federation European part. Based on the data al field surveys and interpretation of lingh spatial resolution satellite images, an attempt was made to determine the area of arable land overgrown with woody vegetation after its exclusion from active agricultural turnover. On the base of soil maps compiled by the specialist of the joints stock company agrochemical centre «Udmurtskiy», the dominant in composition of the emerging young stands tree species were compared with the characteristics of soils. It was established that in the composition of the young growts on the former arable land drooping birch (Betula pendula Roth.), European spruce (Picea abies (L.) Korst.) and some of willow (Salix L.) dominate on these arable lands. The composition of the emerging stands depends on many factors including the type and granulometric composition of soils. The presence of pine and spruce in all emerging young stands indicate the possibility al formation of highly productive mixed stands. Taking in to account the specifics of forest growing conditions and the peculiarities of the formation of plantings on the former arable lands. It is recommended to develop a system of silvicultural measures in such plantations.
