Abstract:
We establish an infinitesimal version of the Jacquet-Rallis trace formula for general linear groups. Our formula is obtained by integrating a kernel truncated à la Arthur multiplied by the absolute value of the determinant to the power $s\in \mathbb{C}$. It has a geometric side which is a sum of distributions $I_{\mathfrak{o}}(s,\cdot )$ indexed by the invariants of the adjoint action of $\text{GL}_{n}(\text{F})$ on $\mathfrak{gl}_{n+1}(\text{F})$ as well as a «spectral side» consisting of the Fourier transforms of the aforementioned distributions. We prove that the distributions $I_{\mathfrak{o}}(s,\cdot )$ are invariant and depend only on the choice of the Haar measure on $\text{GL}_{n}(\mathbb{A})$. For regular semi-simple classes $\mathfrak{o}$, $I_{\mathfrak{o}}(s,\cdot )$ is a relative orbital integral of Jacquet-Rallis. For classes $\mathfrak{o}$ called relatively regular semi-simple, we express $I_{\mathfrak{o}}(s,\cdot )$ in terms of relative orbital integrals regularised by means of zeta functions.

Abstract:
In this article, we focus on inferring high-level descriptions of a system from its execution traces. Specifically, we consider a classification problem where system behaviors are described using formulae of Signal Temporal Logic (STL). Given a finite set of pairs of system traces and labels, where each label indicates whether the corresponding trace exhibits some system property, we devised a decision-tree-based framework that outputs an STL formula that can distinguish the traces. We also extend this approach to the online learning scenario. In this setting, it is assumed that new signals may arrive over time and the previously inferred formula should be updated to accommodate the new data. The proposed approach presents some advantages over traditional machine learning classifiers. In particular, the produced formulae are interpretable and can be used in other phases of the system’s operation, such as monitoring and control. We present two case studies to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms: (1) a fault detection problem in an automotive system and (2) an anomaly detection problem in a maritime environment.

We establish the coarse relative trace formulae of Jacquet–Rallis for linear and unitary groups. Both formulae are of the form: a sum of spectral distributions equals a sum of geometric distributions. In order to obtain the spectral decompositions we introduce new truncation operators and we investigate their properties. On the geometric side, by means of the Cayley transform, the decompositions are derived from a procedure of descent to the tangent spaces for which the formulae are known thanks to our previous work.

In Selberg [11], he introduced the trace formula and applied it to computations of traces of Hecke operators acting on the space of cusp forms of weight greater than or equal to two. But for the case of weight one, the similar method is not effective. It only gives us a certain expression of the dimension of the space of cusp forms by the residue of the Selberg type zeta function. Here the Selberg type zeta function appears in the contribution from the hyperbolic conjugacy classes when we write the trace formula with a certain kernel function ([3J, [4], [7], [8], [9], [12]).

We establish global and local trace formulae for infinitesimal symmetric spaces of Guo-Jacquet. We also prove several local results concerning the comparison of regular semi-simple terms which are noninvariant weighted orbital integrals. This thesis contains five chapters. In Chapter 1, we recall the motivations and state our main reults. Our work is inspired by a conjecture of Guo-Jacquet, which is an example in the relative Langlands programme, and analytic problems appearing in the relative trace formula approach. In Chapter 2, we establish an infinitesimal variant of Guo-Jacquet trace formula for the case of (GL (2n, D), GL (n, D) ⨉GL (n, D)). It is a kind of Poisson summation formula obtained by an analogue of Arthur’s truncation. We describe regular semi-simple terms as explicit weighted orbital integrals. In Chapter 3, we estabilish a similar formula and have a similar description of regular semi-simple terms for the case of a central simple algebra containing a quadratic extension. Moreover, we state and prove the weighted fundamental lemma thanks to Labesse’s work on the base change for GL(n). In Chapter 4, we establish an infinitesimal invariant local trace formula of Guo-Jacquet over a p-adic field by following works of Waldspurger and Arthur. During the proof, we also obtain an infinitesimal noninvariant local trace formula, Howe’s finiteness for weighted orbital integrals and the representability of the Fourier transform of weighted orbital integrals. In Chapter 5, with the results in previous chapters, we adopt Waldspurger’s strategy on the endoscopic transfer to prove some relations between Fourier transforms of invariant local weighted orbital integrals

Abstract:

In this thesis, we give an explicit geometric formula for the twisted semisimple orbital integrals associated with the heat kernel on symmetric spaces. For that purpose, we use the method of the hypoelliptic Laplacian developed by Bismut. We show that our results are compatible with classical results in local equivariant index theory. We also use this formula to evaluate the leading term of the asymptotics as d -> + ∞ of the equivariant Ray-Singer analytic torsion associated with a sequence of flat vector bundles Fd on a compact locally symmetric space. We show that the leading term can be evaluated in terms of the W-invariants constructed by Bismut-Ma-Zhang

Abstract:
We study the Newton stratification of Shimura varieties of PEL type, at the places of good reduction. We consider the basic stratum of certain simple Shimura varieties of PEL type at a place of good reduction. Under simplifying hypotheses we prove a relation between the l-adic cohomology of this basic stratum and the cohomology of the complex Shimura variety. In particular we obtain explicit formulas for the number of points in the basic stratum over finite fields, in terms of automorphic representations. We obtain our results using the trace formula and truncation of the formula of Kottwitz for the number of points on a Shimura variety over a finite field. We prove, using the trace formula that any Newton stratum of a Shimura variety of PEL-type of type (A) is non-empty at a prime of good reduction. This result is already established by Viehmann-Wedhorn; we give a new proof of this theorem. We consider the basic stratum of Shimura varieties associated to certain unitary groups in cases where this stratum is a finite variety. Then, we prove an equidistribution result for Hecke operators acting on the basic stratum. We relate the rate of convergence to the bounds from the Ramanujan conjecture of certain particular cuspidal automorphic representations on Gl_n. The Ramanujan conjecture turns out to be known for these automorphic representations, and therefore we obtain very sharp estimates on the rate of convergence. We prove that any connected reductive group G over a non-Archimedean local field has a cuspidal representation. Together with Erez Lapid we compute the Jacquet module of a Ladder representation at any standard parabolic subgroup of the general linear group over a non-Archimedean local field

Abstract:
This main goal of this work is to construct and study the properties of Hitchin fibration for groups which appears naturally when we try to geometrize the trace formula. We begin by constructing this fibration using the Vinberg’s semigroup. On this semigroup, we show that there exists a characteristic polynomial morphism equipped with a natural section, analog at the Kostant’s one in the case of Lie algebras. We also show that there exists on the base of characteristic polynomials a regular centralizer scheme, which is a smooth commutative group scheme. Then, we are interested in some variant of affine Springer fibers, for which we see that the Vinberg’s semigroup appears naturally to obtain an integrality condition analog to Kazhdan-Lusztig’s one. These affine Springer fibers are local incarnation of Hitchin fibers. In a third time, we go back to the global case and give a modular interpretation of this new Hitchin fibration on which we construct an action of a Picard stack, coming from the regular centralizer. The total space of this fibration, even on the generically regular semisimple locus will be singular and we want to understand his intersection complex. This space can be obtained as the intersection of the Hecke stack with the diagonal of the stack of G-bundles and we show that on a sufficiently big open subset of the Hitchin base, the intersection complex of the Hitchin’s space is the restriction of the corresponding intersection complex on the Hecke stack. Finally, in the last part of this work, we establish a support theorem in the case of a singular total space, generalizing Ngo’s theorem et we show that in the case of Hitchin fibration, the supports that appear are related to the endoscopic strata

Abstract:

During my thesis we studied two specific problems in quantum chaos. First we confirmed the percolation mod describing the nodal lines of wavefunction of classically chaotic systems. These lines were described via a certain Schrammm Loewner Evolution process and our study agrees with the recent theorem stating that it is linked with the critical percolation. Secondly we generalized results in quantum chaos weil known for closed billiards to open dielectric cavities. We gave general formulas for a slight pertubation of a circular cavity and proposed a generalized trace formula for these systems. We especially gave the first terms of a Weyl expansion in order to count the resonances of a dielectric cavity. These results agree weil with experimental data and numerical simulations. Both these studies show how fundamental and transverse techniques of quantum chaos are for topical problems

We are interested in the analytical aspects of the spectral statistics of quantum diffractive systems. Dynamical systems have a classical behaviour which ranges from integrable to chaotic or intermediate, and there seems to be a correspondance between this classical behaviour and the quantum properties of the system. This work is a study of the spectral correlation functions of integrable systems perturbed by a singularity: infinitely small scattering center (delta-like potential), singular corner in a billiard, Aharonov-Bohm flux line. It was possible to obtain analytically the expression of the form factor at the origin for some specific systems: rectangular or circular billiard with Aharonov-Bohm flux line, triangular billiards with "Veech property", barrier billiards. The analytical results agree with numerics and support the existence of a statistical behaviour common to all intermediate systems. In order to obtain the whole expansion of the form factor the contribution of diffractive orbits must be taken into account. We use a semiclassical method which allows to resume all contributions of interactions between periodic and diffractive orbits, and obtain the analytical expansion of the form factor for a rectangular billiard with a scattering center. The distribution of the distance between nearest-neighbours is computed analytically for the same system; its asymptotic behaviour demonstrates that such a system shares features with both integrable and chaotic systems, thus verifying the conjecture for intermediate systems

Abstract:
We consider the problem of synthesizing good-enough (GE)-strategies for linear temporal logic (LTL) over finite traces or LTLf for short. The problem of synthesizing GE-strategies for an LTL formula φ over infinite traces reduces to the problem of synthesizing winning strategies for the formula (∃Oφ)⇒φ where O is the set of propositions controlled by the system. We first prove that this reduction does not work for LTLf formulas. Then we show how to synthesize GE-strategies for LTLf formulas via the Good-Enough (GE)-synthesis of LTL formulas. Unfortunately, this requires to construct deterministic parity automata on infinite words, which is computationally expensive. We then show how to synthesize GE-strategies for LTLf formulas by a reduction to solving games played on deterministic Büchi automata, based on an easier construction of deterministic automata on finite words. We show empirically that our specialized synthesis algorithm for GE-strategies outperforms the algorithms going through GE-synthesis of LTL formulas by orders of magnitude.

Abstract:
Automatic design verification techniques are intended to check that a particular system design meets a set of formal requirements. When the system does not meet the requirements, some verification tools can perform culprit identification to indicate which design components contributed to the failure. With non-probabilistic verification, culprit identification is straightforward: the verifier returns a counterexample trace that shows how the system can evolve to violate the desired property, and any component involved in that trace is a potential culprit. For probabilistic verification, the problem is more complicated, because no single trace constitutes a counterexample. Given a set of execution traces that collectively refute a probabilistic property, how should we interpret those traces to find which design components are primarily responsible? This paper discusses an approach to this problem based on decision-tree learning. Our solution provides rapid, scalable, and accurate diagnosis of culprits from execution traces. It rejects distractions and accurately focuses attention on the components that primarily cause a property verification to fail.

Full text
Abstract:
Most of the current formulae for spiral length use either unbalance, Eu or actual super-elevation, Ea to calculate spiral length, L as applied to light rail, commuter rail, and rapid transit. In reality, a train suffers both Eu and Ea run-off simultaneously. Super-elevation unbalance run-off produces the effect of radial acceleration and actual super-elevation run-off produces the effect of rotation. As a result due to this spiral length design should be based on both Ea and Eu. The current formulae underestimate spiral length which affects comfortable jerk rate, roll criteria, and twist rate. These formulae do not shed any light on how to proportion actual and unbalance superelevation to realize desired results. Consequently from these formulae, desirable values of Ea and Eu cannot be calculated, so it is necessary to re-evaluate the current formulae. It is mathematically established that combined effects of Ea and Eu run-off set a limit of 45mm/sec. A new formula for spiral length comes out to be: L = 0.006(Ea+Eu)V. But this formula does not reflect the effect of proportion of Ea and Eu. This gives the same length whatever be the proportion of Ea and Eu. To overcome this deficiency a second formula is derived as: L=VEa161−Eu. The article analyzed the effect of proportion of Ea and Eu on spiral length. The formulae developed in the paper satisfy both cant gradient and rotation criteria that are currently used. If these formulae are used, these criteria do not require checking. The analysis reveals the basis of cant gradient that is to be used for spiral length design. As extensions of these new formulae are developed for minimum spiral length, minimum length of circular curve, rate of twist, maximum safe speed etc. For Heavy haul operation issues of over-loading and off-loading on the twisted track is also discussed to review cant gradient for spiral length design.

Abstract:
Linear temporal logic over finite traces is used as a formalism for temporal specification in automated planning, process modelling and (runtime) verification. In this paper, we investigate first-order temporal logic over finite traces, lifting some known results to a more expressive setting. Satisfiability in the two-variable monodic fragment is shown to be EXPSPACE-complete, as for the infinite trace case, while it decreases to NEXPTIME when we consider finite traces bounded in the number of instants. This leads to new complexity results for temporal description logics over finite traces. We further investigate satisfiability and equivalences of formulas under a model-theoretic perspective, providing a set of semantic conditions that characterise when the distinction between reasoning over finite and infinite traces can be blurred. Finally, we apply these conditions to planning and verification.

Abstract:
Semiring semantics for first-order logic provides a way to trace how facts represented by a model are used to deduce satisfaction of a formula. Team semantics is a framework for studying logics of dependence and independence in diverse contexts such as databases, quantum mechanics, and statistics by extending first-order logic with atoms that describe dependencies between variables. Combining these two, we propose a unifying approach for analysing the concepts of dependence and independence via a novel semiring team semantics, which subsumes all the previously considered variants for first-order team semantics. In particular, we study the preservation of satisfaction of dependencies and formulae between different semirings. In addition we create links to reasoning tasks such as provenance, counting, and repairs.

Abstract:
Formulae of linear temporal logic (LTL) can be used to specify (wanted or unwanted) properties of a dynamical system. In model checking, the system’s behaviour is described by a transition system, and one needs to check whether all possible traces of this transition system satisfy the formula. In runtime verification, one observes the actual system behaviour, which at any point in time yields a finite prefix of a trace. The task is then to check whether all continuations of this prefix to a trace satisfy (violate) the formula. More precisely, one wants to construct a monitor, i.e., a finite automaton that receives the finite prefix as input and then gives the right answer based on the state currently reached. In this paper, we extend the known approaches to LTL runtime verification in two directions. First, instead of propositional LTL we use the more expressive temporal logic ALC-LTL, which can use axioms of the Description Logic (DL) ALC instead of propositional variables to describe properties of single states of the system. Second, instead of assuming that the observed system behaviour provides us with complete information about the states of the system, we assume that states are described in an incomplete way by ALC-knowledge bases. We show that also in this setting monitors can effectively be constructed. The (double-exponential) size of the constructed monitors is in fact optimal, and not higher than in the propositional case. As an auxiliary result, we show how to construct Büchi automata for ALC-LTL-formulae, which yields alternative proofs for the known upper bounds of deciding satisfiability in ALC-LTL.

Abstract:
Trade has become an increasingly important strategic objective for developing countries. This is a relatively new phenomenon for many of them. Hence the demand to intensify an insertion into the world economy often advances faster than their institutional capacities to formulate effective strategies, trade policies and institutions. This is further complicated by the fact that the insertion is increasingly being undertaken through negotiation of ever more complex trade agreements with important asymmetries between the parties and large repercussions from market opening. Under these circumstances it is not surprising that trade-related capacity building (TRCB) has increasingly gained the attention of developing countries and donors alike. By practicing the art of the possible many advances have been achieved. But many shortcomings are still hindering the delivery of effective TRCB; ironically, some of them being outgrowths of attempts to perfect TRCB.

Abstract:
The objective of this study is to analyze the interaction between trade and non-trade cooperation in some of the today's major regional initiatives, particularly those between developing and industrialized countries. The study suggests a framework to explore what the paper calls a "trade and cooperation nexus". The modalities of this nexus can take different forms. For instance, non-trade cooperation may be an integral part of a formal trade or integration agreement, or may take place independently of such an agreement, as an ex-ante, ex-post or parallel agreement. This paper analyzes the EU approach, which proposes an unusually tight trade and cooperation nexus based on a three-pillar approach uniting political, economic and trade cooperation under a single umbrella agreement. Theoretically this approach should be attractive, especially in North-South agreements, because the promise of linking free trade with cooperation programs could enhance the benefits of the former for both parties. However, while innovative, the nexus is challenging in its construction and delivery. The paper will explore EU efforts in this area in the broader context of what is happening in other North-South initiatives.

Abstract:
The Caribbean and the European Union (EU) have been enjoined in a formal bi-regional relationship since the signing of the Lomé Convention in 1975, and are firm proponents of multilateralism, strong advocates of regional integration, democracy and rule of law, and reflect vibrant multi-ethnic and multilingual polities. The bi-regional relationship has evolved considerably over the intervening 45 years, and is reflected in formal agreements between the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) States and the EU, and in the sphere of economic cooperation, has been strengthened with the signing of the Cariforum-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in 2008. The EU also remains a significant source of development cooperation for the Caribbean, complemented by a sui generis project management regime that includes multi-annual programming. Beyond this, the bi-regional ties have expanded into new areas of joint multilateral endeavour such as the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Despite the long and formal engagement, the Cariforum-EU partnership has not engendered either deep understanding of, or universal support in, each other’s conduct of multilateral negotiations. To the contrary, the partnership displays regular flashes of unease and arguably low-level tension. This paper seeks to assess the Caribbean-EU partnership in terms of its contribution of bi-regional trade and economic cooperation to Caribbean development, and possibilities for a renewed partnership considering new impulses shaping the Cariforum-EU relationship, including the post-Cotonou Agreement, Brexit, EU-LAC Political Dialogue and COVID-19 responses. A Cariforum-EU development agenda to fuel post-pandemic Caribbean recovery is mooted with the additional value of harnessing the promise of the revised partnership.

Abstract:
Formal education is one of the most influential predictors of professional success. As parents in Germany are aware of the importance of education, they often try to enable their children to enrol in the prestigious academic schooling track (Gymnasium). This explains why the transition recommendation made by the teacher after the fourth grade is sometimes ignored if the desired track was not recommended for a particular student. How the mismatch between the teacher’s recommendation and the parents’ choice of schooling for their child affects the child’s development is not sufficiently known. It is very likely that such a mismatch can have consequences for the child’s well-being, competences and overall academic success. Based on five consecutive panel waves of German National Educational Panel Study (NEPS) data (waves 1 to 5, collected between 2010 and 2016) (n = 2;790 in wave 1), our analyses demonstrate that social background and the probability of ignoring a teacher’s recommendation are associated, and that highly educated parents are more likely to overrule the teacher’s recommendation. Panel regression models show that pupils who pursued the academic track (Gymnasium) despite the absence of a teacher’s recommendation were more likely to drop out of the academic schooling track, and were not able to catch up with their peers with respect to both objective and subjective academic competences over the entire observation window. However, the models also show that academic track mismatch did not seem to negatively influence the health and well-being of these pupils.

Abstract:
Recent work has highlighted agricultural land conversion as a significant debit in the greenhouse gas accounting of ethanol as an alternative fuel. This work has at the same time sparked considerable debate on the role of crop yield growth as a means of avoiding rapid land conversion. We examine the agricultural land use impacts of mandate driven ethanol demand increases in the United States in a formal economic equilibrium framework which allows us to examine the importance of yield price relationships. We find that the standard assumption of trend yield growth is likely restrictive for analysis of equilibrium response to significant demand increases for fuel feedstocks. Furthermore, we identify both the acreage response and bilateral trade specification of a multi-country model as important sources of variability (in terms of parametric uncertainty) in predicting global land use change from the biofuels boom.

Liu, Jing, Channing Arndt, and Thomas Hertel. Parameter Estimation and Measures of Fit in A Global, General Equilibrium Model. GTAP Working Paper, March 2003. http://dx.doi.org/10.21642/gtap.wp24.

Abstract:
Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) models have been widely used for quantitative analysis of global economic issues. However, CGE models are frequently criticized for resting on weak empirical foundations. This paper builds on recent work in macro-econometric estimation, developing an approach to parameter estimation for a widely employed global CGE model, the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) model. An approximate likelihood function is developed and the set of optimum elasticity values is obtained by maximizing this approximate likelihood function in the context of a back casting exercise. In addition, two statistical tests are performed. The first of these tests compares the standard GTAP elasticity vector with the estimated trade elasticity vector. It rejects the null hypothesis of equality between the two sets of trade elasticities. The second test examines the widely maintained hypothesis known as the “rule of two”, by which the elasticity of substitution across imports by sources is set equal to twice the elasticity of substitution between domestic goods and imports. We fail to reject this common rule of thumb. We conclude that there is much to be gained by nesting CGE models within an estimation framework as this opens the way for formal evaluation of model performance and parameterization.
