Abstract:
This project tested the dominant cultural belief that Hip-Hop music is a more violent form of music. Our research compared music genres and indicators of violence. Using data from the Madison Police Department, we coded and analyzed 4,624 police calls made from bars, clubs, and venues licensed to host live musical performances in Madison from 2008 to 2016. We then determined whether there was a live music performance during the time of a police call by using archives from local publications, venue websites, and direct correspondence with venues. When compared with all other genres, our analysis does not confirm the popular belief that live Hip-Hop performances have higher instances of violence in Madison, Wisconsin.

Abstract:
Purpose Web-based courses are a practical way to engage in meaningful discussions with learners from a diverse set of communities. By gathering online to learn about a topic, learners can form communities that transcend geographic and political boundaries. This paper aims to investigate a partnership between the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) and Wisconsin Library Services, which brought open access online learning to thousands of lifelong learners around the state of Wisconsin. “Changing Weather and Climate in the Great Lakes Region”, a massive open online course the UW-Madison launched in 2015, paired a regional focus with face-to-face discussions at 21 public libraries to deepen learners’ personal connections to the subject matter. Through strategic partnership, targeted course development and marketing of events, intimate local discussion sessions and statewide events provided fora in which Wisconsin residents would explore changing weather and climate with university faculty, staff and students. Design/methodology/approach This paper uses a case study approach and firsthand interview feedback from librarians, library staff and university faculty and staff who were leading the effort. Findings This paper explores the lessons learned and practical implications from the project and offers insight into libraries and universities looking to engage specific communities in non-credit online learning projects into the future. Originality/value This effort was a first of its kind partnership for the University and the State of Wisconsin.

Abstract:
Lygodium japonicum (Thunb.) Sw. (Japanese climbing fern) and L. microphyllum (Cav.) R.Br. (Old World climbing fern) are invasive, noxious weeds in Florida. During 2001, L. japonicum sporelings were collected from natural sites in Hamilton, Highland, and Madison counties and transported to Broward County (Fort Lauderdale) for research use. During February 2002, leaf spots were observed on pinnules (leaflets) of these containerized plants growing in a shadehouse. A fungus with Bipolaris-like spores was isolated from affected pinnules and purified and stored for future evaluation. In early 2005, the fungus was grown on 1.5% water agar, with sterile, wheat straw pieces embedded in the agar surface, at 26°C and a 12-h photoperiod using cool-white fluorescent and Verilum full-spectrum bulbs. Conidia were 80.5 ± 14.5 μm (range 53.2 to 123.4 μm) × 15.1 ± 1.6 μm (range 12.1 to 19.4 μm), pale brown, slightly curved, narrowly ellipsoid, without a protuberant hilum, distoseptate (8 ± 1, range 6 to 10), and germinated from both polar cells. Conidiophores were septate and smooth. Conidiogenous nodes were smooth. On the basis of these characteristics, the fungus was identified as Bipolaris sacchari (E. Butler) Shoem. (1,2). Pathogenicity toward L. japonicum and L. microphyllum was determined using conidia produced on potato dextrose agar at 26°C and a 12-h photoperiod. A 1 × 106 conidia ml-1 suspension was sprayed until runoff on healthy plants grown in 450-ml containers. Control plants were sprayed with sterile water. There were four replicate plants per treatment. Plants were covered with plastic bags to maintain high humidity and placed in a growth chamber with a 12-h photoperiod at 28°C (light cycle) and 22°C (dark cycle). Bags were removed after 72 h, and small (1 to 2 mm), water-soaked spots were evident throughout the plant canopy on both Lygodium spp. Plants were incubated for three more weeks under the same photoperiod and temperatures with ˜70% relative humidity (light cycle) and ˜45% relative humidity (dark cycle), and then evaluated for disease. At least 50% of L. microphyllum pinnules and 25% of L. japonicum pinnules on each inoculated plant had small (1 to 2 mm), brown leaf spots or larger (approximately 5 mm) necrotic spots. B. sacchari was reisolated from both types of spots from both Lygodium spp.; there was no evidence of fungal sporulation on the plants. No symptoms were apparent on control plants. To our knowledge, this is the first report of B. sacchari on a non-Poaceae host in Florida. References: (1) J. L. Alcorn. Ann. Rev. Phytopathol. 26:37, 1988. (2) A. Sivanesan. Abstract:
O presente artigo analisa o caso Marbury v.

Abstract:
This study aims to determine the compliance of amil zakat institutions in financial management (accountability) in terms of the background of the financial manager. The research method uses descriptive qualitative analysis with a multiple case study model of national amilzakat institutions that have zakat distribution in Madiun and are members of the Madiun Regional Zakat Organization Forum (FOZDA), namely BAZNAS, LMI, LAZISMU, Yatim Mandiri, BMH, Global Zakat, Nurul Hayat and Dompet Duafa. Data collection using in-depth interviews, observation and documentation to informants at each institution. The results of this study indicate that the understanding of accounting, financial reports and the applicable standards of the financial staff of the amilzakat institution is different, which is due to the educational background, years of service and position of the institution in Madiun, whether as a branch office, unit or outlet. However, office governance, finance, management and human resources in institutions can work together, so that the compliance of the amilzakat institution in carrying out accounting (accounting) which produces output in the form of financial reports can run well, as a form of transparency and accountability to donors.

Madison Powers raises the difficult problem of repugnant desires. The problem is not only difficult but pervasive, more pervasive even than Powers says. He notes that it affects hedonist, eudaimonist, and desire-fulfilment forms of utilitarianism; but it also affects the form of utilitarianism that uses a list of irreducibly plural values, so long as one of the values on the list is pleasure or happiness, and it can affect non-utilitarian positions as well for the same reason.

Abstract:
We report mortality events in a group of 123 common vampire bats (Desmodus rotundus) captured in México and housed for a rabies vaccine efficacy study in Madison, Wisconsin. Bat mortalities occurred in México and Wisconsin, but rabies cases reported herein are only those that occurred after arrival in Madison (n = 15). Bats were confirmed positive for rabies virus (RABV) by the direct fluorescent antibody test. In accordance with previous reports, we observed long incubation periods (more than 100 days), variability in clinical signs prior to death, excretion of virus in saliva, and changes in rabies neutralizing antibody (rVNA) titers post-infection. We observed that the furious form of rabies (aggression, hyper-salivation, and hyper-excitability) manifested in three bats, which has not been reported in vampire bat studies since 1936. RABV was detected in saliva of 5/9 bats, 2–5 days prior to death, but was not detected in four of those bats that had been vaccinated shortly after exposure. Bats from different capture sites were involved in two separate outbreaks, and phylogenetic analysis revealed differences in the glycoprotein gene sequences of RABV isolated from each event, indicating that two different lineages were circulating separately during capture at each site.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT This geologic study is focused on a less than 5 square-mile (ca. 13 km2) tract of public land in northwestern Wyoming, 8 miles (12.9 km) south-southwest of the small town of Clark in Park County. The study area is south of Clarks Fork of Yellowstone River along the eastern base of the topographic feature called Bald Ridge, also known structurally as Dead Indian monocline. Since the Middle Eocene, the study area has been along the northwestern margin of the Bighorn Basin. Prior to that time, the study area existed near the west–east center of the basin. Bald Ridge became elevated late in the Laramide orogeny (no older than the Early Eocene) through east-directed faulting of basement rocks via the extensive Line Creek–Oregon Basin thrust system. As that active faulting occurred, the overlying Phanerozoic strata (Lower Cambrian through Lower Eocene) responded with numerous west-directed, out-of-the-basin thrusts as a new western-basin margin developed along the eastern realm of the newly born Absaroka volcanic field. Most of that deformation occurred after deposition of uppermost levels of the Lower Eocene Willwood Formation. The key purpose of the present paper was to improve the accuracy of mapping of the Jurassic into Eocene stratigraphy along the newly restricted, northwestern edge of Wyoming’s Bighorn Basin. The stratigraphic column in a north–south band along the eastern flank of the Beartooth Mountains and continuing southward into the present study area was markedly deformed and deeply eroded late during the Laramide orogeny. The present small, more southerly study area is structurally and erosionally simpler than its more northerly equivalent. Thus, its study adds important geological information to the history of the northern Cody Arch, a convex-westward string of related basement-involved uplifts extending southward to southwest of the city of Cody. Progressively steepening eastward dips of strata characterize a west-to-east transect from the summit of Bald Ridge (capped by the shallowly dipping, Mississippian Madison Limestone) to the western edge of strongly overturned outcrops of the Eocene Willwood Formation. The Upper Cretaceous Meeteetse Formation is the stratigraphic horizon at which the dips attain vertical or slightly overturned orientations. All consequential faults within the newly mapped area are thrusts, and they show generally westward (out-of-the-basin) displacements. Despite those west-directed displacements, their primary cause was tectonic shortening at depth below Bald Ridge that was directed to the northeast or east-northeast. During the Laramide orogeny, certain thrust planes within the east-dipping Phanerozoic rock column cut down-section stratigraphically (but uphill relative to Earth’s surface) and thereby placed younger strata upon older. The cumulative result, as recognized at several levels within the present area of study, was marked thinning of the total section. For example, surface exposures of the mostly Paleocene Fort Union Formation, 4,000 feet (1,219 m) thick only 7 miles (11.3 km) to the east, was completely eliminated from the local surface stratigraphy by that means. The northern end of Bald Ridge is formed by the highly asymmetric Canyon Mouth anticline. That structure differs strongly in the attitude of its hinge line from the general east-northeast dip of strata cloaking Bald Ridge. The Canyon Mouth anticline’s hinge line plunges steeply to the southeast, and dips on its northeastern flanks are vertical to partly overturned. Surprisingly, hinge lines and flanks of all other anticlinal/synclinal structures recognized within the present map area share those same orientations with Canyon Mouth anticline. These consistent but unexpected differences in orientation from unfolded strata may represent very late events in the history of Laramide strain vectors across the study area. Working in northern parts of this study area, an independent group determining radiometric ages of detrital-zircon grains reported close agreements in age with their host localities in the Early Cretaceous Mowry Shale and Frontier Formation. However, under the present paper’s interpretation of the local stratigraphy, the other workers misidentified formational hosts for all three samplings. That resulted in age-determination errors of depositional history within the Upper Cretaceous section of as much as 28.8 million years.

AbstractEpizootiological studies of a Nosema sp. in field populations of the grasshopper Chorthippus curtipennis (Harris) were conducted in Madison County, Montana. The average density and percentage prevalence for each modal stage are reported for two sites from 1986 through 1990. Alternating high and low densities of C. curtipennis were observed during even and odd years, respectively. Prevalence of Nosema in C. curtipennis during a high density year was characterized by an increase in prevalence during nymphal development. Furthermore, prevalence of Nosema in C. curtipennis was positively related to host density, suggesting some form of density-dependent transmission.

Abstract:
Quality management, a form of participatory management modeled on the theories of Edwards Deming, was implemented in the Madison, Wisconsin Police Department as a basis for the implementation of community policing. Personnel surveys conducted in 1987 and 1989 found a significant increase over time in the belief that the organization practiced participatory management. The increase in this belief was positively and significantly related to (a) satisfaction with work, the organization, supervision, and job growth potential; (b) perceived significance of work; (c) task identity; and (d) work autonomy. A composite measure of satisfaction was, in turn, significantly related to officers' receptivity to change.

This study aims to determine the compliance of amil zakat institutions in financial management (accountability) and legal status. The research method uses descriptive qualitative analysis with multiple case study models of amil zakat institutions which have zakat distribution in Madiun City. Case studies include: BAZNAS, Infaq Management Institute (LMI), Muhammadiyah Alms Alms Zakat Institution (LAZISMU), Yatim Mandiri, Amil Zakat Institute Alms Alms Nahdatul Ulama (LAZISNU), and Baitul Maal Hidayatullah in Madiun City. There are 6 key informants and 5 supporting informants. The results of this study indicate that not all institutions carry out the process of preparing a standard financial report, which refers to PSAK 109, namely zakat, infaq, and alms accounting. The educational background of the management and the policies of each institution in the preparation of financial statements results in the incompatibility of financial statements that are made with generally accepted accounting standards.

Should the International Court of Justice (ICJ) “judicially review” Security Council decisions? The question, once fanciful, is now being asked seriously by litigants in and judges on the World Court, nonpermanent members of the Security Council that consider it an “undemocratic” body acting as “a cloak for a new form of imperialism,” and scholars worried about its recent “quasi-legislative” or “quasi-judicial” acts. The recent throng of commentators and advocates includes students of realpolitik warning the Court against any unrealistic attempt to transform the United Nations collective security scheme into a constitutional structure of checks and balances, and legalists grasping hopefully for hints of Marbury v. Abstract:
The beginning of political and economic liberalism is distrust. This claim is clearer for economic liberalism than for political liberalism because it is overtly foundational in economic liberalism, which was directed against the intrusions of the state in economic affairs. Those intrusions typically had the obvious purpose of securing economic advantages for some by restricting opportunities for others, although some of them may have been merely capricious or ignorantly intended. The hostility to such economic intrusions led to the form of the American constitution, with its principal purpose to restrict government and its actions in the economy or, in the lexicon of the time, in commerce. James Madison saw the creation of an open economy or untrammelled commerce as the main achievement of the new constitution.

Abstract:
The Allen Centennial Gardens are located at the Univ. of Wisconsin–Madison on the grounds of the National Historical site, the house of the first four deans of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The 2.5-acre garden, developed and managed primarily by the Dept. of Horticulture, replaced the old teaching and display garden space taken over in building additions. Within the past 10 years the grounds have been designed and transformed into a garden, with 26 individual collection gardens, including: turf, fruit and vegetable gardens, classic ornamental gardens (with both herbaceous and woody perennials), and a rock alpine garden. As it receives its finishing touches, an education plan is being developed to complement the education purpose of the garden; the goal of the garden is to become an active site for learning through both observation and interaction with the garden collections. The two main themes of the learning experience are: 1) the biology of the diverse and unique plant collections (including: culture, practices, and production), and 2) the aesthetics of the garden (the organization of space, form, topography, and color). Implementation of education programs will occur on the following four levels: first the university (first the horticulture department, second other departments and university functions); second, area high schools groups; third, community and professional groups; and fourth, elementary school groups. The education programs will include mapping, internships, classes, meetings, volunteerism, and tours. The Allen Centennial Gardens, with its education mission, has already and will continue to be a meeting grounds for the university community, and a meetings ground for both the professional community and Madison-area community.

Bedhaya Bedhah Madiun dance in Mangkunegaran is a dance repertoire Yogyakarta style that successfully has absorbed from Krida Beksa Wirama during the reign of Mangkunegara VII. Though, based on observation, the presentation style in Mangkunegaran has a significant difference from the Yogyakarta style. This article aimed to study about presentation style of Bedhaya Bedhah Madiun dance in Mangkunegaran to determine the forming of its presentation techniques. This study uses an ethnochoreology approach with archival research methods. The results showed that the style could be change as responses to challenges or problems from the sociocultural conditions. The forming of the Bedhaya Bedhah Madiun dance style in Mangkunegaran does not occur in an event but is a process. The presentation style formed because of a problem with the inheritance system so that it undergoes significant changes. The problem arises from social, political, cultural, and economic conditions. The response against those problems has to form the Bedhaya Bedhah Madiun dance characteristics in Mangkunegaran though not all were positive.

Abstract:
The rationale of the separation of powers is often elided with the rationale of checks and balances and with the rationale of the dispersal of power generally in a constitutional system. This Essay, however, focuses resolutely on the functional separation of powers in what M.J.C. Vile called its “pure form.” Reexamining the theories of Locke, Montesquieu, and Madison, this Essay seeks to recover (amidst all their tautologies and evasions) a genuine case in favor of this principle. The Essay argues that the rationale of the separation of powers is closely related to that of the rule of law: it is partly a matter of the distinct integrity of each of the separated institutions— judiciary, legislature, and administration. But above all, it is a matter of articulated governance (as contrasted with compressed undifferentiated exercises of power).

Abstract:
This article examines how the critically acclaimed television show Mad Men (2007-2015) sells romanticized working-class representations to middle-class audiences, including contemporary cable subscribers. The television drama’s lead protagonist, Don Draper, exhibits class performatively in his assumed identity as a Madison Avenue ad executive, which is in constant conflict with his hobo-driven born identity of Dick Whitman. To fully examine Draper/Whitman’s cross-class tensions, I draw on the American literary form of the hobo narrative, which issues agency to the hobo figure but overlooks the material conditions of homelessness. I argue that the hobo narrative becomes a predominant but overlooked aspect of Mad Men’s period presentation, specifically one that is used as a technique for self-making and self-marketing white masculinity in twenty-first century U.S. cultural productions.

Madiun Regency is one area that has a lot of active silat colleges, there are 14 (fourteen) silat colleges, mostly based in Madiun. In the dynamics of Madiun pencak silat development, there is Suran Agung tradition as a form of local wisdom in every pencak silat college at the suro month. The activity involved mass mobilization, the escalation of conflict between members of the martial arts college and communities also increased. AbstractReviews of historical and organizational literature provide the backdrop for a general discussion of citizen input into land-grant universities and for a specific case study: the Citizens Advisory/Oversight Council of the Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems (CIAS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. This strong citizens' council, established in 1989, took its form in response to institutionally structured fears among university personnel, on one hand, and farmers and citizen groups on the other. Each group's recognition that the other's concerns were legitimate led to an acceptable resolution. We describe the principal characteristics of the resulting successful CIAS Council that is composed of farmers and representatives of the state's environmental community. Such councils facilitate new approaches to integrating the craft and science of farming, and for linking the production side of agricultural systems with policy issues.

Lymphoma is a very common lymphoid malignancy in dogs, but cardiac involvement is rare. Primary cardiac lymphoma is defined as lymphoma involving the heart, the pericardium, or both, and is classified as extranodal anatomical form. The present report describes the cases of three animals with cardiac lymphoma. All cases presented moderate to severe pericardial effusion and cardiac tamponade. The cytological analysis of the effusion was consistent with the diagnosis of cardiac lymphoma. The anatomopathological evaluation of the tumor extracted from the heart of one of the animals, after euthanasia, was consistent with cardiac lymphoma. The other two animals were treated with Madison-Wisconsin chemotherapy protocol and survived between 6 to 8 months. This report emphasizes the importance of pericardial effusion cytology for the diagnosis, appropriate treatment approach and monitoring of cardiac tumors in dogs and cats.

The component of organising marketing activities to be evaluated refers to the Marketing Mix model developed by Kotler (2014) knows as 4Ps (product, price, promotion, and place). In this study, researchers used quantitative and qualitative data. Data collection is done by distributing questionnaires to 112 respondents determined through purposive sampling, namely visitors who have purchased MICE packages at Aston Madiun Hotel and Conference Center. Data collection was also obtained from interviews with guests and the Sales and Marketing Department as organisers of hotel marketing activities, observation and literature. In order to formulate the overall evaluation steps, an analysis of the four sectors of hotel marketing activities was carried out in the form of analysis, planning, implementation, and evaluation whose results will be described descriptively. The results showed that the overall marketing mix component received a positive response from guests who had purchased the MICE package at the Aston Madiun Hotel. Two questionnaire items obtain quite low scores, namely hotel items routinely offer and update the details of MICE packages directly to companies and hotels utilising all print media for marketing MICE package activities. The data obtained from the study will be used as study material to evaluate the marketing activities of the Marketing Department in marketing an Aston Madiun Hotel service product, in the form of accuracy of analysis, product development that is in line with the main potential of the hotel, implementation of targeted market segmentation and always evaluating every marketing process that has been passed.

Abstract:
This article examines the creation of political parties in Congress with a focus on ties between emerging party leaders and members, 1789–1802. Using an egocentric selection model, we examine who John Adams, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison tied with as a function of the characteristics of the emerging leader, a member of Congress, and dyadic relationships between the two. We also examine whether ties affected the party chosen by members of Congress. Everything else equal, we find leaders were more likely to form ties with ideologically similar members, but find no evidence of them tieing with more pivotal voters. In response, members were more likely to join the Federalist party if they received a Federalist tie, but they were not more likely to join the Republican party if they received a Republican tie. Understanding such relationships is an important step for understanding the creation of parties in the United States.

The regency and City of Madiun became the cultural center of Pencak Silat school. There are 11 schools that are affiliated with IPSI. The eleventh of the school has its own Pencak Silat identity. Different identity of the schools raises conflicts, such as PPSHT with PPSHW. Conflicts often occur when doing the tradition of Suran Agung. The Regency and city Madiun government have made various efforts to implementation of Law No. 7 of 2012 about handling of social conflict but that has not been optimal. The research raised of the problem about how the optimisation pattern of stakeholder role in the handling of conflicts between PPSHT and PPSHW in the Regency and city of Madiun by conducting a perspective mapping of stakeholders involved. This research uses qualitative descriptive methods to focusing on 1) role policy Creator, 2) Coordinator, 3) facilitator, 4) Implementer and 5) accelerators in the handling of conflicts transformed into the development of Madiun tourism The Village of Indonesia Fighter. The results of this study revealed that not yet optimal role of each stakeholder in the handling of conflicts even less do a transformation of conflict into the development of Pencak Silat tourism destination. This is due to the absence of a policy derivative in the form in local regulations and has not yet synergitas the role of stakeholders between the regency government and the city of Madiun. Prior taxonomic studies in subtribe Pleurothallidinae have suggested a close relationship between miscellaneous species featuring long-repent, segmented rhizomes, abbreviated ramicauls, few-flowered inflorescences, and flowers with partially connate sepals and trilobed lip. The lack of phylogenetic information for most species has prevented further conclusions or changes in their taxonomy; and as a result, they are currently assigned to several unrelated genera: Anathallis, Madisonia, Pabstiella, Pleurothallis, Sansonia and Specklinia. We performed phylogenetic analyses using nuclear (nrITS) and five plastid (matK, psbD-trnT, rps16-trnQ, trnH-psbA and trnS-trnG) markers and demonstrated that these species form an isolated clade which requires generic recognition. The name Madisonia, previously a monotypic genus endemic of the Amazon basin, is re-circumscribed and expanded to include nine species distributed in the Atlantic Rainforest and the Caribbean. Eight new nomenclatural combinations are proposed.

Abstract:
When stored at temperatures less than 10 °C, tubers of all cultivated potatoes exhibit cold-induced sweetening (CIS) during which starch degrades to sucrose, glucose, and fructose. Upon frying at high temperatures, the reducing sugars (Fru, Glu) interact with free amino acids via the non-enzymatic Maillard reaction to form dark-colored chips that are unacceptable to consumers. In addition, scientists recently discovered that the toxic chemical acrylamide is also produced during frying. Although storage at warmer temperatures reverses CIS and circumvents dark chip production, the probability of storage loss due to shrinkage and disease increases. Wild Solanum species form the backbone of many potato-breeding programs. In this study, we evaluated 36 different plant introductions (PI) including 20 different species, grown in Madison and Rhinelander, Wis., to identify germplasm resistant to CIS for genetic analysis. After storage for 2–3 months at 4 °C, tuber sugar and amino acid content were analyzed via HPLC and slices were fried to determine chip color. Sugar and chipping data support previous research indicating CIS resistance in S. okadae, S. raphanifolium, and S. phujera. Interestingly, some germplasm selections with high reducing sugar content produced light-colored chips, indicating exceptions to the typical correlation between reducing sugar content and chip color. Genetic bases to these exceptions are under evaluation.

Abstract:
Abstract: Changing the orientation of land demand from the city center towards the suburbs can alter the physical pattern of spatial and economic pattern in that location. The nominal value of the land within the suburbs is not the same, depending on the quality and quantity of space available, this makes the market different and in the end make the spatial distribution of land values and patterns in every corner of the city. The study was conducted in the city of Madiun where the area is physically not too wide and allows the development of the city. This study aims to describe the structure of land values in the city of Madiun in the form of contours as well as to analyze/explain the pattern of land values from the perspective of spatial economy. The analysis is done by looking at each disparity/ difference between the value of land between objects/samples depicted in the contour line of land values. The value of the various soil contours shows the pattern of soil value which is further examined and studied according to spatial theory. The analysis of the land value pattern from the perspective of spatial economy is done with the spatial economic variables that exist around it, such as public facilities, economic center, land use, quality and road network and so forth. In this case a superimpose / overlap between the land value pattern map (in contour form) with maps of public facilities, road access maps, land use maps, and so on. Spatial pattern of land value in Madiun City tends to spread and in each pattern is not interrelated. There are strong indications that land value patterns in Madiun City are spatial economically influenced by several things, such as accessibility, facilities / services, and economic centers.

Abstract:
Affairs websites such as Victoria Milan, Gleeden or Illicit Encounters are the latest in a long line of commercial online ventures offering different kinds of intimacy. While online dating sites have long been used as a covert way to find additional partners or extramarital intimacy, recent years have seen an increase in the variety of new media services explicitly targeted at unfaithful partners. However, as the July 2015 hacking (and subsequent media coverage) of well-known affairs site, Ashley Madison, showed, the status of these sites is still contested and the services they offer still highly provocative. With this in mind, this article explores the intersection of new media and the contested form of intimacy often referred to as ‘infidelity’. In this article, I analyse material from four websites offering non-consensual non-monogamies to examine how they are attempting to change the cultural script of infidelity through a combination of content and material affordances. To do so, I draw on the idea of intimacy as a kind of organizing ‘public’ narrative that determines ‘private’ acts of intimacy (Berlant, 2000).
