Abstract:
The text deals with some terminological problems concerning the so-called founder?s model. Although it is commonly used to designate the depicted architecture in the hand of the church founder, the expression 'founder?s (ktetor?s) model' is often confusing and misleading. The main question is whether the Byzantine architects used actual model/maquettes for constructing their churches and if so, could these models/ maquettes have been used for the architecture depicted in founders? portraits? In other worlds is the representation in the donor?s hand the image of a built church or its maquette, produced as a project model? The different aspects of the problem we analyzed - the legal, technical and symbolic functions of these representations support our assumption that the architectural design model/maquette did not serve as a specimen for representations of architecture on founder?s portraits. This specific type of architecture depicted was created after the building itself was completed.

Abstract:
AbstractClaims submitted by beneficiaries concerning violations of founders' stipulations are motivated in part by normative differences between the Islamic inheritance rules and the stipulations of founders regarding the devolution of entitlements to family waqfs. In these claims, the beneficiaries interpret the founder's stipulations in a manner different than that enforced by the administrator of the endowment. My examination of such claims submitted to the sharīʿa court of Jaffa during the British Mandate reveals that the claims reflect two opposing trends: the desire of female agnates and cognatic descendants to be included in entitlement to the endowment's revenues, and the desire of agnatic descendants to deprive them of this right. Other claims derived from differing views regarding the principle of representation (tanzīl). I conclude that the prevailing consideration of the qādīs when adjudicating such claims was their perceived obligation to adhere to the written text of the founder, and not any social consideration.

This article is dedicated to Yuri Nikolaevich Karaulov, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and founder of the scientific school Russian Language Personality. This article is about the complexities of language-based perception: the Spanish readers perception (Spanish linguistic personality) of the target text translated from Russian (The wind blowing from the candy factory by Vadim Mesiats). The author concludes that the original text-based factors, i.e. the Russian linguistic personality and cultural sphere, affect the readers interpretation of the target text informativity, situationality, intertextuality, and, to some extent, the intentionality of the source text.

Abstract:
Purpose The study aims to explore language style and gender match as a key part of initial trust among potential donors and how this leads to funding success based on the similarity attraction and homophily theories. Empirical analyses of 160 respondents revealed that people are more concerned about “how it is written” (language style) than “who has written it” (gender). Design/methodology/approach Crowdfunding (CF) is an internet-based method of funding employed by project founders, allowing individuals to raise funds from the crowd to support their projects. It is important for project founders to attract the crowd’s interest as potential funders commonly have limited information about projects. One of the early cues about a project that can be picked up by the crowd in CF projects is the text description of the proposal. This text description is crucial for giving the crowd an understanding of the project and for promoting the crowd’s trust in the founder, encouraging them to fund the CF project. Based on the similarity attraction and homophily theories, this study sets out to explore language style and gender match as key elements of initial trust among potential donors and how they lead to funding success. A 2 × 2 factorial experimental design (e.g. subject, male and female, × male language style and female language style) was used for the study. To determine the sample size of the experiment, this study applied power and sample size estimations to measure how many respondents were needed for the experiment. Based on the power table of effect size, 128 respondents were considered to be a sufficient number for this experiment to ensure sufficient statistical power of 0.8 and a significance level of 0.05. This study fulfilled the requirement by recruiting 160 respondents, which corresponded to 40 subjects per group based on a 2 × 2 factorial design (the respondents’ gender, male and female, and text language style, male and female). The empirical analysis of 160 respondents revealed that people are more concerned about “how it is written” (language style) than “who has written it” (gender). Findings This paper contributes to project founders’ understanding and knowledge of the importance of linguistic style, which can determine the success of a CF project. One of the important results of this study is that the crowd can identify the author’s gender based on their writing style. Through an experiment applying factorial analysis (2 × 2), it was found that people are more concerned about “how it is written” (language style) than with “who it is written by” (gender). This means that the project founder, if they know who their audience is, should know how to write the project proposal so that it fits the audience’s preferences. More specifically, the success rate of CF projects can be increased by integrating suitable word dimensions in promotions of projects on CF platforms. Therefore, it can be argued that linguistic style is a powerful agent for building a connection with a target audience. The findings of this study can be used as theoretical guidance, and eventually, the potential antecedents of funding intention can be further explored. Research limitations/implications This study is subject to several limitations. The result is limited to donation-based CF. As this study focuses on the language style of project founders when they describe their CF projects, donation-based CF was the most appropriate platform for this research. In donation-based CF, the style words are more emotion-based, compared to other CF platforms. The experiment, however, could also be replicated for other CF types such as reward-based CF. One important part of CF projects is persuading the crowd to fund them. It is worth mentioning that reward-based CF involves individuals pledging to a business in exchange for a reward. Yet, even though reward-based CF offers rewards, it is generally considered a subset of donation-based CF because there is no financial return to the backer. Therefore, it is suggested that future research should also consider case studies in reward-based CF. Second, from the persuading perspective, this study focusses on narrative language style only, as it facilitates the crowd’s understanding of a CF project. Future study can further focus on other information content such as videos in the project proposal. Prior research has found that providing a video in a CF project increases the crowd’s confidence in funding (Mitra, 2012). The study is also supported by previous studies that suggest producing a higher quality of video in the project proposal positively related to the success of CF projects (Mollick (2014)). Practical implications The result of this study empirically confirmed that the crowd’s willingness to fund a project proposal and their trust are dependent on the text description of the project proposal. The project founders need to know how to describe the content of a project so that it signals the quality of the project, especially in early start-ups. In other words, the way that a project is created and published through a CF platform will send a valuable signal to the potential donors about the project, and they will either find it acceptable or reject it. If the project appears to lack demand among potential donors, it is easier for project founders to quickly identify that the project will fail, without the need to invest additional capital. Social implications The findings of this study have important social implications that provide guidelines for project founders on establishing a strategy to help the crowd understand their projects. At the same time, the findings can help the crowd to make their funding decisions. First, the text language used in the CF project by the project founder plays an important role in presenting the campaign and all the ideas need to be presented in a clear way so that the crowd understands the project. In CF projects, pitch is everything (Varsamis, 2018). The pitch refers to the text or video that is provided by the project founder to show their project proposal to the crowd. Compared with traditional funding channels (such as venture capital, i.e. banks), CF is more convenient for raising funds. This is because the project founders need to show their ideas in a creative way to the crowd online, rather than preparing a complex plan and racking their brains on how they can persuade investors to participate (Wang and Yang (2019)). This research intends to help project founders understand how they can influence the crowd by improving the text language used in their CF projects. Originality/value This paper fulfils an identified need to study how the linguistic style of the project founder would lead to the success rate of crowdfunding projects.

Abstract:
AbstractThe mythical singer Orpheus was credited as the proto-founder of private Dionysiac initiations in Classical Greece, and written hexameter poems attributed to his authorship played an important role in these cults. Since at least the nineteenth century, classical scholars have identified this “bookish” orientation as a defining feature of Orphism. This article approaches Orphic texts using the analytical tools of “material religion” and argues that Orphic textuality is best understood as a medial extension of poetic performance. Like musical-poetic performers, ritual experts drew authority in part from mimêsis of legendary archetypes (Orpheus, Musaeus, Melampus, etc.), and part of the physical text’s function was to make this identification believable for performers in Orphic cults and other low-level genres. In the Derveni Papyrus, however, the book enables a rejection of performance-based expertise in favor of an authority based on textual exegesis.

Abstract:
Genetic variability at 27 loci was analyzed in four populations of pikas (Ochotona princeps) from Colorado. Estimates of mean heterozygosity [Formula: see text] ranged from 0.5 to 1.4%. These results are among the lowest estimates of [Formula: see text] reported for a mammal having a broad distribution, and are the lowest reported for a lagomorph. Data from this study and others estimate [Formula: see text] as 0.71% for pikas from Colorado. Founder effect, followed by drift occurring in small isolated populations during postglacial shifts in the range of the pika, is the most likely explanation for low estimates of genetic variability in pikas from Colorado.

Abstract:
10515 Background: With the advent of DTC genetic testing, individuals have access to genetic testing without input from a healthcare professional. DTC testing now exists for the 3 Ashkenazi Jewish (AJ) BRCA1/2 founder variants. DTC testing may provide false reassurance to individuals that they do not carry a pathogenic or likely pathogenic variant (PLPV) in BRCA1/2 or other cancer-risk genes. Methods: Multi-panel genetic testing was performed in 348,692 individuals for a clinical indication of hereditary breast/ovarian cancer (Clinical cohort) and 7,636 self-referred ostensibly healthy individuals (Healthy cohort) by a clinical testing laboratory. The primary analysis evaluated PLPVs for Group 1 genes: BRCA1/2 AJ founder variants and Group 2: full sequence BRCA1/2. Secondary analyses assessed PLPVs in Group 3: high-risk breast cancer genes ( BRCA1/2, CDH1, PALB2, PTEN, STK11, TP53), Group 4: all breast or ovarian cancer-risk genes (Group 3 genes plus ATM, BARD1, BRIP1, truncating CHEK2, EPCAM, MLH1, MSH2/6, NF1, PMS2, RAD51C/D) and Group 5: 41 cancer-risk genes; these analyses were limited to participants who tested for all 41 genes. Potentially mosaic variants were excluded. Results: Table illustrates PLPVs found in both cohorts. The BRCA1/2 AJ founder variants account for only ̃11% (1513/13,987) and ̃30% (19/64) of the BRCA PLPVs in the Clinical and Healthy cohorts, respectively. Even among AJ individuals, testing only for the 3 founder variants will miss ̃10% (52/513) of all BRCA1/2 PLPVs. Evaluating only the BRCA AJ founder variants missed a higher percentage of PLPVs in other cancer-risk genes. Conclusions: The 3 BRCA1/2 AJ founder variants analyzed by DTC testing account for a small fraction of PLPVs in cancer-risk genes in the general population, and miss 10% of BRCA PLPVs even among AJ individuals. Greater public education is needed to dispel the misconception that DTC tests are equivalent to clinical assessment and comprehensive genetic testing. PLPVs identified in Clinical and Healthy Cohorts.[Table: see text]

Abstract:
From 1930 to 1955, Amon Carter, publisher of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, exerted his power to create modern Fort Worth. Carter used his stature as the publisher of the city's major newspaper to build a modern city out of this livestock center. Between 1930 and 1955, Carter lobbied successfully for New Deal funds for Fort Worth, persuaded Consolidated Aircraft to build an airplane plant in the city, and convinced Burlington Railways to stay in the city. He also labored unsuccessfully to have the Trinity River Canal built and to secure a General Motors plant for Fort Worth. These efforts demonstrate that Carter was indeed the founder of modern Fort Worth.

Abstract:
Random numbers are integral to many areas of computer science, it is used in everything from video games to encryption of important messages and simulations. These numbers are often generated by mathematical algorithms and it is highly important for these generators to generate numbers that are truly random and unpredictable, as patterns, cycles or other discrepancies might at worst cause serious security flaws that can be exploited. Random numbers can also be generated with the aid of a source of entropy, for this report the source used was the text found on the social media site Twitter to see if text is a good source of randomness. A data analysis on a sample of the text was made that showed some inherent structure in the text that could be removed to improve the randomness. Multiple generators were then made to further analyse the behaviour of the text and to find possible implementations for a good random number generator. We found that generators that only took the characters one by one to build a random number did not produce random enough numbers so some kind of a transformation involving multiple characters was necessary. The type of generator that performed the best was an implementation of a linear congruential method random number generator where the additive part varied with input from the text. This generator performed, in the randomness testing, comparably to an implementation of Mersenne Twister showing that with the right implementation it is possible to generate good random numbers from the text found on social media. The limiting factors are that the generation of the random numbers is dependent on the speed at which it is possible to access new data and a security risk from the potential to tamper with the data sent to the generator.<br>Slumptal används inom många områden av datavetenskap, det används inom allt ifrån spel till kryptering av viktiga meddelanden och simuleringar.

Abstract:
The Ṣaḥīfa of Medina, has drawn the attention of the Western scholars since the second half of the nineteenth century, to such an extent that P. L. Rose considers it as a “skeletal structure’’, which controls the veracity of Sīra-reports. It has been preserved thanks to two historiographers of the 3rd/9thcentury : Ibn Hishām and Abū ‘Ubayd ; the contemporary research situates it, on the whole, in the first five years of Hijra. It clearly illustrates, through its variants present in the text itself as well as in the chain of transmission, the vagaries, necessarily harmful, moving from an oral transmission, culture to a written one. The access to the writing was not so simple that we have always believed. The crucial turning point was when the Barmakid Ja‛far Ibn Yaḥya, (d. 187/803), introduced, by the end of the 8th/ beginning of the9th century, the usage of the paper in the government offices. This reform was due to the ower cost of this material and in parti- cular to the impossibility of scratching or washing paper, unlike papyrus and parchment. This Ṣaḥīfa wasfundamentally produced during the Prophet’s life time, however it was doubtless modified later, adding paragraphs, deleting others, and particularly organizing them in a way thatdoes not always comply with its initial ranking. Hot-working tool steel, plasma nitrided steel andduplex layers with CrN, TiAlN, TiAlSiN and CrAlN top coatings, which wereproduced to various degree of surface roughness, were covered by the study. An ejection test was employed for investigation of the concerned phenomena. The ejection test was improved in order to increase its accuracy and thereliability of process simulation. Samples were examined in both short andextended periods of contact (5 and 20 min) with liquid casting. Castingsolidification was extended in order to intensify the corrosion effects. Contraryto common findings, it was found that the ejection force of the investigatedmaterials does not depend on their chemical composition. For the coatedsamples, a pronounced dependence of the ejection force on the surfaceroughness was found. The ejection force increases with decrease in surfaceroughness. All investigated coatings are prone to mechanical soldering by Al&ndash;Si&ndash;Cu alloy. Still, their corrosion resistance substantially exceeds the corrosionresistance of steel and plasma nitrided layer. Longer exposure of coatedsamples to cast alloy induced lower ejection forces, which is a consequenceof coatings oxidation. It was found that the investigated coatings are inert toliquid aluminium. However, the underlying material undergoes oxidation andcorrosion through coating growth defects. The findings concerning the wearmechanisms of protective layers support further development of duplex layersintended for die casting tools protection.

Abstract:
The book analyses the history of the Jesuat congregation, highlighting the elements of connection and comparison with the social contexts, then describing the origin and the most ancient events of the female branch of the congregation, and the memory of the meeting between the "founder" of the Jesuats and the "foundress" of the Gesuate. The iconographic memory of the initiator of the congregation, Giovani Colombini, the collection of the lauds of the Jesuat Bianco da Siena, and the fortune of the 15th-century Life of Giovanni Colombini, written by Feo Belcari, are also investigated. Then the research reconstructs the constellation of groups, religious experiments and bearers of ideas and devotions that were linked to the Jesuats and, in particular, to the convents of Milan, Siena, Lucca, Venice and Rome and the sanctuaries managed by the congregation. The congregational sociability is analysed along its lines: the practice of work as pharmacists and the cultivation of spiritual friendships with prominent people such as the Countess of Guastalla, Lodovica Torelli. Finally, the erudite use of Colombini's Epistolario as a language text is studied. The volume closes with a documentary appendix on the Jesuat convent of Chiusi.

Abstract:
This chapter argues that the story of Jeroboam I’s placement of calves at Dan and Bethel (1 Kgs 12:25–33) is a temple renovation text from the eighth-century BCE reigns of Joash and Jeroboam II. Employing the rhetoric of such texts, the story associates the Nimshide kings with symbols of their kingdom’s illustrious past, namely, the long-standing cult sites themselves and also Jeroboam I, their renowned predecessor and the kingdom’s founder. This rhetoric of renovation is consistent with the kings' recovery of territory that had been lost by the predecessors.

Tracks how this rejection of social inequity inspired the use of Marathi as the medium of communication for the early Mahanubhav community. In writing a historical text, the early Mahanubhavs wished to preserve the language their founder was remembered to have used, which was Marathi. This was a language understood as feminine and “imperfect” in the taxonomies of Sanskritic linguistic hierarchy, yet it perfectly suited his audience, especially the female followers whom the early Mahanubhavs wished not to alienate—in particular the “old ladies,” as one prominent Mahanubhav said.

Abstract:
A gap exists between research on learning and research on interest. Cognitive researchers rarely consider motivational processes, and interest researchers rarely consider cognitive process. However, it is essential to consider both since achievement and interest are in fact intertwined. In this paper we (1) discuss a theoretical model that intertwines cognitive and interest development, (2) describe how that model informed the development of educational materials, and (3) report on the results of the cognitive components of a randomized research study examining the impact of text genre on learning and interest. In our prior analyses, we examined the effects of text characteristics (i.e., narrative or expository genre) on situational interest. We found that students with higher levels of prior individual interest preferred the narrative versions of text whereas students with lower levels of prior individual interest preferred the expository versions of text. In this paper, we examine the impact of text characteristics on student learning. The results of this research showed that contrary to prior research, there was no significant difference in comprehension based on text characteristics. These results provide evidence that is possible to differentiate instruction based students' prior interest without sacrificing learning outcomes.

Abstract:
The article reviews and analyzes the promotion of Ukrainian publishing houses on Facebook during quarantine in 2020. The study’s main objective is content and its types, which were used for representing on Facebook. We found out that going live and posting a text with a picture was most popular. The phenomenon of live video is tightly connected to the quarantine phenomenon. Though, not every publishing house was able to go live permanently or at least regular. However, simple text with a picture is the most uncomplicated content to post and the most popular. Ukrainian publishers also use UGC (User Generated Content), situational content, and different contexts. The biggest problem for Ukrainian publishers is continual strategic work with social media for promotion. During quarantine, social media became the first channel for communication with customers and subscribers. Therefore promotion on the Internet and in social media indeed should become equivalent to offline promotion.

Full text
Abstract:
Plastic pollution has become one of the major concerns in the world. Plastic waste is not biodegradable, which makes it difficult to manage waste plastic pollution. Recycling and reusing waste plastic is an effective way to manage plastic pollution. Because of the huge quantity of waste plastic released into the world, industries requiring a large amount of material, like the pavement industry, can reuse some of this mammoth volume of waste plastics. Similarly, the use of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) has also become common practice to ensure sustainability. The use of recycled waste plastics and RAP in HMA mix can save material costs and conserve many pavement industries’ resources. To successfully modify HMA with RAP and waste plastic, the modified HMA should exhibit similar or better performance compared to conventional HMA. In this study, recycled waste plastic, linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), and RAP were added to conventional HMA, separately and together. The mechanical properties of conventional and modified HMA were examined and compared. The fatigue cracking resistance was measured with the IDEAL Cracking (IDEAL CT) test, and the Hamburg Wheel Tracking (HWT) test was conducted to investigate the rutting resistance of compacted HMA samples. The IDEAL CT test results showed that the cracking resistance was similar across plastic modified HMA and conventional HMA containing virgin aggregates. However, when 20% RAP aggregates were used in the HMA mix, the fatigue cracking resistance was found to be significantly lower in plastic modified HMA compared to conventional HMA. The rutting resistance from the HWT test at 20,000 passes was found to be similar in all conventional and modified HMA.

Abstract:
In this paper, we explore the link between energy and agricultural production in Bolivia, Peru, and Colombia. The economic literature and policy reports, discussed here, indicate that access to energy (electricity) has a positive effect on agricultural production. To test this hypothesis, we look at the agricultural census and national survey to estimate the effect of energy use on the value of production using the Propensity Score Matching (PSM) technique. We found that, in the three countries, access to energy increases the value of agricultural production.

Full text
Abstract:
Many students struggle with mathematics in late elementary school, particularly on the topic of fractions. In a best evidence syntheses of research on increasing achievement in elementary school mathematics, Pelligrini et al. (2018) highlighted tutoring as a way to help students. Online tutoring is attractive because costs may be lower and logistics easier than with face-to-face tutoring. Cignition developed an approach that combines online 1:1 tutoring with a fractions game, called FogStone Isle. The game provides students with additional learning opportunities and provides tutors with information that they can use to plan tutoring sessions. A randomized controlled trial investigated the research question: Do students who participate in online tutoring and a related mathematical game learn more about fractions than students who only have access to the game? Participants were 144 students from four schools, all serving low-income students with low prior mathematics achievement. In the Treatment condition, students received 20-25 minute tutoring sessions twice per week for an average of 18 sessions and also played the FogStone Isle game. In the Control condition, students had access to the game, but did not play it often. Control students did not receive tutoring. Students were randomly assigned to condition after being matched on pre-test scores. The same diagnostic assessment was used as a pre-test and as a post-test. The planned analysis looked for differences in gain scores ( post-test minus pre-test scores) between conditions. We conducted a t-test on the aggregate gain scores, comparing conditions; the results were statistically significant (t = 4.0545, df = 132.66, p-value &lt; .001). To determine an effect size, we treated each site as a study in a meta-analysis. Using gain scores, the effect size was g=+.66. A more sophisticated treatment of the pooled standard deviation resulted in a corrected effect size of g=.46 with a 95% confidence interval of [+.23,+.70]. Students who received online tutoring and played the related Fog Stone Isle game learned more; our research found the approach to be efficacious. The Pelligrini et al. (2018) meta-analysis of elementary math tutoring programs found g = .26 and was based largely on face-to-face tutoring studies. Thus, this study compares favorably to prior research on face-to-face mathematics tutoring with elementary students. Limitations are discussed; in particular, this is an initial study of an intervention under development. Effects could increase or decrease as development continues and the program scales. Although this study was planned long before the current pandemic, results are particularly timely now that many students are at home under shelter-in-place orders due to COVID-19. The approach taken here is feasible for students at home, with tutors supporting them from a distance. It is also feasible in many other situations where equity could be addressed directly by supporting students via online tutors.

Full text
Abstract:
The main objectives of this project were to review the available balanced-mix design (BMD) methodologies, understand the I-FIT and Hamburg Wheel Tracking Test (HWTT) test methods using INDOT asphalt mixtures, and to explore the application of these tests to both a BMD approach and as performance-related Quality Control (QC) and Quality Acceptance (QA) methods. Two QA mixture specimen types, plant-mixed laboratory-compacted (PMLC) and plant-mixed field-compacted (PMFC) were used in the determination of cracking and rutting parameters. Distribution functions for the flexibility index (FI) values and rutting parameters were determined for various mixture types. The effects of specimen geometry and air voids contents on the calculated Flexibility Index (FI) and rutting parameters were investigated. The fatigue characteristics of selected asphalt mixtures were determined using the S-VECD test according to different FI levels for different conditions. A typical full-depth pavement section was implemented in FlexPAVE to explore the cracking characteristics of INDOT asphalt mixtures by investigating the relationship between the FI values of QA samples with the FlexPAVE pavement performance predictions. The FI values obtained from PMFC specimens were consistently higher than their corresponding PMLC specimens. This study also found that FI values were affected significantly by variations in specimen thickness and air voids contents, having higher FI values with higher air voids contents and thinner specimens. These observations do not agree with the general material-performance expectations that better cracking resistance is achieved with lower air voids content and thicker layers. Additionally, PG 70-22 mixtures show the lowest mean FI values followed by the PG 76-22 and 64-22 mixtures. The same order was observed from the ΔTc (asphalt binder cracking index) of INDOT’s 2017 and 2018 projects. Finally, it was found that the HWTT showed reasonable sensitivity to the different characteristics (e.g., aggregate sizes, binder types, and air voids contents) of asphalt mixtures. Mixtures containing modified asphalt binders showed better rut resistance and higher Rutting Resistance Index (RRI) than those containing unmodified binders.

Abstract:
The goal of this paper is to document the pedagogic impacts of the remote learning strategy used by an state department of education in Brazil during the pandemic. We found that dropout risk increased by 365% under remote learning. While risk increased with local disease activity, most of it can be attributed directly to the absence of in-person classes: we estimate that dropout risk increased by no less than 247% across the State, even at the low end of the distribution of per capita Covid-19 cases. Average standardized test scores decreased by 0.32 standard deviation, as if students had only learned 27.5% of the in-person equivalent under remote learning. Learning losses did not systematically increase with local disease activity, attesting that they are in fact the outcome of remote learning, rather than a consequence of other health or economic impacts of Covid-19. Authorizing schools to partially reopen for in-person classes increased high-school students test scores by 20% relative to the control group.

Abstract:
In this article, we explore whether the evaluation instruments used to recruit teachers in the national teacher hiring process in Peru are good predictors of teacher effectiveness. To this end, we estimate teacher value-added (TVA) measures for public primary school teachers in 2018 and test for their correlation with the results of the 2015 and 2017 national evaluations. Our findings indicate that among the three sub-tests that comprise the first, centralized stage of the process, the curricular and pedagogical knowledge component has the strongest (and significant) correlation with the TVA measure, while the weakest correlation is found with the reading comprehension component. At the second, decentralized stage, we find no significant correlation with our measures of TVA for math, as well as non-robust correlations for the professional experience and classroom observation evaluation instruments. A positive and significant correlation is found between the classroom observation component and TVA for reading. Moreover, we find correlations between our measure of TVA and several teacher characteristics: TVA is higher for female teachers and for those at higher salary levels while it is lower for teachers with temporary contracts (compared to those with permanent positions).
