Abstract:
A unified electroweak theory is formulated using non-local field theory without including a Higgs particle. The W and Z gauge boson masses are induced from one-loop vacuum polarization graphs and the non-local weak scale is determined by the W boson mass and the Fermi constant to be Λw=424 GeV . The tree graphs for the gauge bosons are identical to those of the standard local electroweak theory, so any violation of locality occurs only at the quantum level for the finite loop graphs. The fermion masses are obtained from a four-Fermi interaction with a spontaneously broken vacuum based on the fermion condensate [Formula: see text]. The problem of severe fine tuning for the quark condensates in the standard local point field theory is avoided in our non-local field theory. The theory contains only the known particle spectrum of leptons, quarks, the anticipated top quark, the W and Z gauge bosons and the photon. The quark condensates could generate a spectrum of heavy vector bound states at an energy scale ~1−2 TeV .

Abstract:
In this talk we present investigation of the phase structure of a (1+1)-dimensional quark model with four-quark interaction and in the presence of baryon ([Formula: see text]), isospin ([Formula: see text]) and chiral isospin ([Formula: see text]) chemical potentials. Spatially homogeneous and inhomogeneous (chiral density wave (for chiral condensate) and single wave (for charged pion condensate)) condensates are considered. It is established that in the large-[Formula: see text] limit ([Formula: see text] is the number of colored quarks) there exists a duality correspondence between the chiral symmetry breaking phase and the charged pion condensation (PC) one. The primary conclusion of this investigation is the fact that chiral isospin chemical potential generates charged pion condensation with non-zero baryon density in dense quark matter. Moreover, it is shown that inhomogeneous charged PC phase with nonzero baryon density is induced in the model by arbitrary small values of the chemical potential [Formula: see text] (for a rather large region of [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]).

Abstract:
We examine a toy model and a cascade effect for confinement and chiral symmetry breaking which consists in several phase transitions corresponding to the formation of bound states and chiral condensates with different number of fermions for a strong group. We analyze two examples: regular quantum chromodynamics (QCD) where we calculate the “four quark” vacuum condensate and a preon composite model based on QCD at higher scales. In this context, we also determine the number of flavors at which the second chiral and confinement phase transitions occur and discuss the consequences.

Abstract:
The modifications of hadronic properties caused by an ambient nuclear medium are investigated within the scope of QCD sum rules. This is exemplified for the cases of the omega meson, the nucleon and the D meson. By virtue of the sum rules, integrated spectral densities of these hadrons are linked to properties of the QCD ground state, quantified in condensates. For the cases of the omega meson and the nucleon it is discussed how the sum rules allow a restriction of the parameter range of poorly known four-quark condensates by a comparison of experimental and theoretical knowledge. The catalog of independent four-quark condensates is covered and relations among these condensates are revealed. The behavior of four-quark condensates under the chiral symmetry group and the relation to order parameters of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking are outlined. In this respect, also the QCD condensates appearing in differences of sum rules of chiral partners are investigated. Finally, the effects of an ambient nuclear medium on the D meson are discussed and relevant condensates are identified
