We discuss the quark masses in a top condensate model where not only two quark but also four quark composite states may exist. We show that the presence of the top color group SU (3)1× SU (3)2 with the correct quark representations can justify even in the absence of the additional technicolor interactions a hierarchy of the quark masses where the light quarks masses have the same size, the charm and bottom masses are higher and similar and the top is the heaviest.

Abstract We study the quark sector of the universal seesaw model with SU(2) L × SU(2) R × U(1). The model incorporates the seesaw mechanism with the vector-like quarks (VLQs). The purpose of this work is to study the model with the effective theory. After integrating the heavy five VLQs, we derive the effective theory with four up-type quark and three down type quark. In this work, the FCNC of Z boson for top quark and top′ quark is derived.

Abstract:
The measurements of the top quark flavor changing neutral current interactions are one of the most important goals of the top quark physics program in the present and the future collider experiments. These measurements provide direct information on nonstandard interactions of the top quark. Within the framework of new physics beyond the Standard Model, these interactions can be defined by an effective Lagrangian. In this study, we have investigated the potential of the future [Formula: see text] colliders on the top quark flavor changing neutral current interactions through the subprocesses [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text]. These subprocesses have been produced through the main reaction [Formula: see text] at the LHC-[Formula: see text], the FCC-[Formula: see text] and the SPPC-[Formula: see text]. For the main reaction, the total cross-sections have been calculated as a function of the anomalous [Formula: see text] couplings. In addition, sensitivities on [Formula: see text] at 95% Confidence Level have been calculated. We obtain that the best constraints on [Formula: see text] are at the order of [Formula: see text] which is four orders of magnitude better than the LHC’s experimental results.

Abstract:
Since its start, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has helped advance both theory and experiment on the production and properties of the heaviest fundamental particle, the top quark. This review focuses on a selected set of measurements and associated searches for new physics, which have opened the door for unprecedented precision in this area of high-energy physics. Fundamental parameters of the theory such as m t, αS, V tb, and y t are measured from top quark events with relative uncertainties that are smaller than 0.5%, 1.8%, 2%, and 10%, respectively, and that are expected to improve with more data, better experimental methods, and more accurate theory predictions. Several results, even if statistically limited, already significantly constrain the phase space of new physics: measurements of associated production with bosons, processes with four top quarks, and searches for rare decays, among others. It is expected that until the completion of the LHC program, top quark physics will keep providing unique insights regarding the consistency of the Standard Model and the energy scale of new physics.

Abstract:
The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics provides the foundational framework describing elementary particles and their interactions. Among its key discoveries was the Higgs boson, observed at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in 2012, which completes the SM and explains mass generation via the Higgs mechanism. The top quark, the heaviest known fundamental particle, plays a critical role in vacuum stability and serves as a unique probe for new physics. This thesis presents the first observation of four-top-quark production (̄̄) in proton-proton collisions at √ = 13 TeV using 140 fb⁻¹ of ATLAS data. The measured cross-section, 22.5 +6.6 −5.5 fb, agrees with SM predictions, with an observed (expected) significance of 6.1σ (4.3σ). Enhanced sensitivity stems from improved background modeling, lepton reconstruction, and multivariate techniques. The results constrain effective field theory operators such as the cQt1, ctt1, cQQ1 and cQt8, with limits on their coefficients (Ci/Λ²) ranging from [−1.9, 2.1] to [−6.9, 7.6] TeV⁻². Additionally, a novel measurement of the top quark pole mass is performed using double-differential ̄ cross-sections at NNLO precision with 36 fb⁻¹ of data, targeting a precision of 0.6–1.7%. A study in the appendix demonstrates improved identification of boosted / jets via the Unified Flow Objects (UFO) algorithm. These advancements deepen our understanding of top quark properties, rigorously test the SM, and pave the way for discoveries beyond

Abstract:
This thesis presents the search for New Physics in events with four top quarks using the data collected in proton-proton collisions by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The dataset corresponds to the one taken during all 2011 at √s = 7 TeV and a part of 2012 at √s = 8 TeV. The analysis focuses on a final state with two leptons (electrons and muons) with the same electric charge. This signature is experimentally favored since the presence of two same-sign leptons in the final state allows to reduce the background coming from Standard Model (SM) processes. The results are interpreted in the context of a low energy effective field theory, which assumes that New Physics at low energy can manifest itself as a four right-handed top contact interaction. In this context, this analysis allows testing a class of beyond-the-SM (BSM) theories which at low energy can manifest in this way. Backgrounds to this search have been estimated using simulated samples and data-driven techniques. Different sources of systematic uncertainties have been also considered. The final selection of events has been optimized by aiming at minimizing the expected upper limit on the four tops production cross-section in case of no signal events found. The signal region is then analyzed by looking for an excess of events with respect to the predicted background. No excess of events has been observed, and the observed upper limit on the four tops production cross-section has been computed. This limit is then translated to an upper limit on the coupling strength C=2 of the model. An upper limit on the four tops production cross-section in the SM has been also computed in the analysis performed at √s = 8 TeV. In addition to the physics analysis of the four tops signal, some studies about the LASER calibration system of the ATLAS Tile calorimeter are presented. In particular, they are related to the photodiodes system used to measure the intensity of the laser light in the LASER system.

Abstract:
In this chapter, a model is considered that can be defined in continuous dimensions, the Gross– Neveu–Yukawa (GNY) model, which involves N Dirac fermions and one scalar field. The model has a continuous U(N) symmetry, and a discrete symmetry, which prevents the addition of a fermion mass term to the action. For a specific value of a coefficient of the action, the model undergoes a continuous phase transition. The broken phase illustrates a mechanism of spontaneous symmetry breaking, leading to spontaneous fermion mass generation like in the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics. In four dimensions, the GNY can be considered as a toy model to represent the interactions between the top quark and the Higgs boson, the heaviest particles of the SM of fundamental interactions, when the gauge fields are omitted. The model is renormalizable in four dimensions and its renormalization group (RG) properties can be studied in d = 4 and d = 4 − ϵ dimensions. A model of self-interacting fermions with the same symmetries and fermion content, the Gross–Neveu (GN) model, has been widely studied. In perturbation theory, for d > 2, it describes only a phase with massless fermions but, in d = 2 + ϵ dimensions, the RG indicates that, at a critical value of the coupling constant, the model experiences a phase transition. In two dimensions, it is renormalizable and exhibits the phenomenon of asymptotic freedom. The massless phase becomes infrared unstable and there is strong evidence that the spectrum corresponds to spontaneous symmetry breaking and fermion mass generation.
