Abstract:
Penetrating trauma to the heart has a high associated mortality due to significant hemorrhage, coronary artery injury, and cardiac tamponade. Such sequelae progress rapidly, often leading to death before reaching hospital. We report a case of delayed presentation following a stab injury to the right ventricle. This case highlights the mechanisms that may facilitate a delayed presentation and the importance of appropriate investigation when suspicion of cardiac injury is high.

Abstract:
Objective Denosumab is a monoclonal antibody used for prevention of skeletal related events in patients with bone metastasis from solid tumors and is administered every four weeks. In our practice, denosumab is often given at different frequencies more similar to patient’s chemotherapy regimens to decrease frequency of clinic visits. The purpose of this study is to compare the incidence of skeletal related events, incidence of hypocalcemia, and cost with denosumab given at every four weeks and denosumab given at other frequencies. Background: Previous investigations have shown that muscular endurance resistance training (MERT) is conducive in improving the onset of blood lactate accumulation (OBLA). However, the metabolic response and time course for adaption is still unclear. Objective: The aims of the current study were to evaluate and track the metabolic response to an individual session of MERT as well as to assess performance adaptations of supplementing an aerobic exercise training program with four weeks of MERT. Methods: Seventeen aerobically active men were randomly assigned to either the experimental (EX) or c

Background/Aim. High-Intensity Functional Training (HIFT) is a popular mixed-modal program that utilizes both resistance and aerobic based exercises. The aim of this study was to examine the physiological effects of the HIFT programing on physically active men (10) and women (10) over a four-week period through the measure of the aerobic capacity, anaerobic capacity, and maximal weight lifted. Methods. The participants first completed a maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) test. After 48-hours of rest, the subjects completed the anaerobic capacity test via the Wingate protocol. AbstractA large body of evidence from molecular, cellular and human studies suggests that lithium may enhance synaptic plasticity, which may be associated with its therapeutic efficacy. However, only a small number of studies have directly assessed this. To determine whether lithium treatment alters structural synaptic plasticity, this study examined the effect of 4 wk lithium treatment on the amount and distribution of dendrites in the dentate gyrus (DG) and hippocampal area CA1 of young adult rats. Following 4 wk lithium or control chow feeding, animals were decapitated, the hippocampi were
