Full text[Full thermal modelling of industrial electrical furnaces is a new research field. In the current work, we present numerical simulations on tridimensional models, taking into account beat conduction in solids, radiative beat transfer between surfaces and beat convection by using an beat exchange coefficient. TMG software, which is used for this work, has been validated, especially with radiative calculations (view factors). This computation is sophisticate and reliable. In order to make sure of the numerical results, the simulation of a heated enclosure, is compared with experimental measurements. For steady and transient states, the model is a good approach for thermal phenomena. Modeling an industrial electrical furnace has been carried out, provided that: - complex zones of furnace are simplified by using equivalent models, - a solid knowledge of the material properties and the boundary conditions (natural convection, energy in the heating elements. . . ) is available. So, the numerical results are in good agreement with temperature measurements. Considering reduction in modeling led us to conceive an equivalent plane emissivity, thought as a replacement of a row of resistors and their back wall. This reduction model is of great interest for the simulation of furnaces and especially in models with a large number of meshes. This work is the starting point of many studies to improve such kind of modeling. ]

Full textThe thermomigration of aluminium in silicon has been studied as an alternative means to boron diffusion for the realization of isolation walls in bi-directional power devices. The process of boron solid-state diffusion is limited mainly by its huge thermal budget. Among alternative solutions, the thermomigration offers many advantages such as thermal budget reduction and constant, high doping level. The process is based on the migration of Al/Si liquid droplets by means of a vertical temperature gradient with deposition, in the droplet path, of a silicon solid solution doped with aluminium (at about 1019 at/cm3). The requirement of a vertical temperature gradient leads to the design of a specific rapid thermal processor (RTP). The experimental study has given the main issues raised by the industrialization of this technique, form both "process" and "equipment" side. For example, the necessary introduction of oxygen during the thermomigration annealing dramatically influences the droplet migration. Therefore, new answers have been given to address this problem, especially by considering geometrical parameters of aluminium pattern. Moreover, thorough analysis of the results obtained with the laboratory RTP furnace has given the main specifications of a new equipment allowing industrial application of thermomigration. Finally, thanks to our knowledge of the process, we designed and realized a new power structure, namely a thyristor on epitaxy, whose reverse blocking capability has been demonstrated. Although further investigations are necessary to solve remaining problems, the results we obtained during this study are very promising as regards future industrialization of the process

Full textThis thesis is dedicated to the multilevel converters and addresses issues related to compensation for disturbance generated on an electrical network such as those produced by arc furnaces. It is composed of four chapters covering the themes of modeling of electrical networks, voltage converters, control and compensation strategies, with simulations and experimental results obtained on high power industrial equipment. There are many networks applications and multilevel converters are here considered to be directly connected to distribution networks. Therefore, a state of the art of different voltage converters, classics and multilevel topologies, is presented and the topologies called modular are retained for further studies. These converters use modular power cells made of H bridges, ½ bridges or 3-level H bridges connected in cascade. They allow to create different types of configurations or couplings called in this memory: star, delta and double stars. The different modules and the strategies to control them are investigated around the same switching power component (IGBT 2.5kV/1.5kA). Through electrical and thermal fields, a method is proposed to estimate their losses, junction temperatures in order to determine the limits of use of such a component of power. Sizing and reliability of these converters is also discussed for each considerer configurations in order to identify the advantages and disadvantages for a network application. Generally, the multilevel converters control strategy is difficult because of the multiple sources of DC voltages to control. In this context, control strategies are proposed and validated in simulation according to the types of modules and configuration used to compensation for disturbance of an arc furnace. Finally, the last part of this thesis is devoted to the experimental results based on an industrial compensator DSVC (Dynamic Static Var Compensator) for arc furnace compensation. The different results obtained at several industrial sites have thus allowed the validation of the various works exposed in this thesis
