The Fox transcription factor family comprises FoxA1, FoxA2 and FoxA3, which regulate tissue development and metabolism. In breast cancer, FoxA1 together with estrogen receptor regulates tumor growth and luminal specification. However, it is still unclear whether other members of the FoxA family participate in breast cancer pathogenesis and whether they contribute to tumor metabolic dependence. Here we show that FoxA1 and FoxA2 expression is mutually exclusive across different human breast cancer cell lines. Although both transcription factors regulate different set of genes and biological responses, they promote in vitro and in vivo tumor growth through the expression of endothelial lipase (LIPG). LIPG is ubiquitously expressed across various breast cancer subtypes, as seen in human cell lines and primary tumors. Furthermore, it has the capacity to rescue the loss of FoxA factors regulating a network enriched in oncogenic and structural lipids known to mediate proliferation. These findings collectively reveal how the FoxA1/FoxA2-LIPG axis regulates a central hub of lipids required for the growth of breast cancer.La familia de factores de transcripción FoxA está compuesta por FoxA1, FoxA2 y FoxA3. Estos factores regulan el desarrollo y el metabolismo de diversos tejidos. En cáncer de mama, FoxA1 media la acción de estrógenos y andrógenos regulando la especificación y el crecimiento del subgrupo luminal. No obstante, aún es desconocida la participación de los otros miembros de la familia en el desarrollo tumoral o su posible función en la dependencia metabólica de éstos. En esta tesis se describió que la expresión de los factores de transcripción FoxA1 y FoxA2 es mutualmente exclusiva en diferentes líneas celulares de cáncer de mama humanas. A pesar de que FoxA1 y FoxA2 controlan diferentes programas génicos y diferentes respuestas biológicas, ambos promueven el crecimiento tumoral in vitro e in vivo regulando la expresión de la enzima lipasa endotelial (LIPG). LIPG se expresa ubícuamente en líneas celulares humanas y tumores primarios de diferentes subgrupos de cáncer de mama. Además, LIPG es capaz de rescatar la pérdida de los factores FoxA regulando una red de lípidos oncogénicos y estructurales que median proliferación. Estos hallazgos revelan colectivamente que el eje FoxA1/FoxA2-LIPG regula un nicho central de lípidos que son necesarios para el crecimiento de cáncer de mama.

FoxA is an iron-regulated outer membrane receptor protein of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium that is required for utilisation of the trihydroxamate siderophore ferrioxamines, which acts as source of iron. In this study various approaches were attempted in order to clone the entire foxA gene. This was successfully achieved by use of a homologous recombination using a suicide vector strategy. Three different S. Typhimurium foxA mutant strains, SL2MK (this study), RK102 and TML/nr, were tested for growth responsiveness to ferrioxamine B using a plate bioassay. No response was observed for any of the mutant strains while of growth was clearly observed for both of the wild type strains. Mutant strains carrying the complementing foxA+ plasmid showed restored growth stimulation by ferrioxamine, confirming that the observed phenotypes were dependent on the presence or absence of the functional foxA gene. An analysis of the role of FoxA in Salmonella virulence was undertaken. An in vitro assay involving bacterial interaction with human dendritic cells demonstrated that, while mutation of the foxA gene had little or no effect on the ability of S. Typhimurium to invade and survive within dendritic cells, the foxA mutant was significant attenuated in its ability to damage these cells. However, investigations of the involvement of the foxA gene in Salmonella virulence using a murine model of infection yielded consistent evidence which suggested that the foxA gene is not critical for the pathogenesis of Salmonella . The foxA mutant strain SL2MK was able to infect and reside in the liver and spleen of mice infected intravenously to an extent similar to the wild type parent strain SL1344/nr and to the complemented mutant strain CSL2MK. In addition the foxA mutant and its wild type parent strain were recovered in similar numbers from the Peyer's patches, mesenteric lymph nodes, spleens and livers of mice infected by the oral route with these strains.

FoxA transcription factors are central regulators of gut development in all species. In C. elegans, pha-4/FoxA is necessary to generate cells of the foregut, or pharynx. FoxA factors need to be precisely regulated for proper development, yet we know very little about FoxA regulation. To look for potential genes that act as pha-4 regulators, the Mango lab previously conducted two screens for suppressors of the lethality associated with a partial loss of pha-4 activity. Both screens uncovered smg-8, a novel gene that is highly conserved amongst metazoans. Interestingly, the human homolog of smg-8 is amplified in some breast cancers, which also depend on FoxA1. This observation makes smg-8 a very exciting gene to investigate. The goal of my thesis is to analyze smg-8 to better understand its function and potential role as a candidate regulator of pha-4/FoxA, using C. elegans as a model system. In this thesis, I show that C. elegans smg-8 does not have a role in the Nonsense Mediated Decay pathway. I find that smg-8 modulates pha-4 protein levels during embryonic development. This work is the first direct evidence that smg-8 is a modulator of pha-4. I used biochemical and bioinformatic approaches to uncover possible partners of smg-8. These approaches identified several interesting candidates that will help place C. elegans smg-8 in a functional pathway. This work has expanded our understanding of smg-8 function and lays the foundation for further investigation of the role of this novel gene as a regulator of pha-4/FoxA in C. elegans.

Les levures Candida sont des pathogènes opportunistes émergents. Après phagocytose macrophagique, C. albicans reprogramme son métabolisme pour faire face à une carence carbonée et induit 2 voies métaboliques, le cycle du glyoxylate et la β-oxydation. Notre objectif est d’étudier le lien entre β-oxydation, capacité de résistance à la phagocytose et virulence dans notre modèle biologique C. lusitaniae. Chez les levures Ascomycètes la β-oxydation, essentielle pour dégrader les acides gras (AG), est présumée être exclusivement peroxysomale.Nous avons construit 3 mutants nuls chez C. lusitaniae : icl1Δ, fox2Δ et pxa1Δ, respectivement défectifs pour l’isocitrate lyase (enzyme clé du cycle du glyoxylate), pour la protéine multifonctionnelle de la β-oxydation et pour une protéine responsable de l’import peroxysomal des AG à longue chaîne. L’étude de l’assimilation des AG et du catabolisme du 14Calpha-palmitoyl-CoA a révélé que les acyl-CoA à longue chaîne étaient toujours dégradés chez fox2Δ. L’étude du catabolisme des AG dans les fractions peroxysomale et mitochondriale des souches sauvage et fox2Δ, l’immunolocalisation de la protéine Fox2p et la mesure de la respiration mitochondriale nous ont permis de montrer pour la première fois chez une levure Ascomycète l’existence d’une β-oxydation Fox2p-dépendante dans la mitochondrie. C’est aussi la première démonstration chez un organisme eucaryote de la double localisation peroxysomale et mitochondriale de Fox2p. L’invalidation des gènes FOX1 et FOX3 (acyl-CoA oxydase et kétoacyl-CoA thiolase) a confirmé pour la première fois chez les champignons l’existence d’une voie peroxysomale alternative de catabolisme des AG, Fox2p-indépendanteThe Candida spp. are emerging opportunistic pathogens. Phagocytic cells are a primary line of defense against these opportunistic pathogens. Upon phagocytosis by macrophages, C. albicans reprograms its metabolism because genes involved in the peroxisomal metabolism, such as glyoxylic acid cycle and beta-oxidation pathway, are overexpressed. The objective of this study was to study the relation between fatty acid beta-oxidation, resistance to phagocytosis and virulence in the biological model Candida lusitaniae. In ascomycetous yeasts, the fatty acid β-oxidation is assumed to be exclusively located to peroxisomes.We constructed three null-mutants in C. lusitaniae: icl1Δ, fox2Δ et pxa1Δ, respectively lacking the isocitrate lyase (a key enzyme of the glyoxylate cycle), the multifunctional fatty acid beta-oxidation protein (essential in C. albicans to the β-oxidation pathway), and a protein involved in the peroxisomal import of long-chain fatty acids. The study of fatty acid assimilation and 14Calpha-palmitoyl-CoA catabolism revealed that long-chain fatty acids were still catabolized in fox2Δ. The observation of 14Calpha-palmitoyl-CoA catabolism in mitochondrial and peroxisomal fractions of wild-type and fox2Δ strains, the immunolocalization of Fox2p and mitochondrial respiration measurements yielded to the first demonstration in ascomycetous yeast of a mitochondrial Fox2p-dependent fatty acid β-oxidation pathway. We also demonstrated for the first time in Eucaryota that Fox2p co-localized in both peroxisomes and mitochondria. The invalidation of FOX1 and FOX3 genes (acyl-CoA oxidase and ketoacyl-CoA thiolase, respectively) confirmed for the first time in Fungi the existence of an alternative peroxisomal pathway for fatty acid catabolism, Fox2p-independently

The midbrain dopamine system is involved in many aspects of purposeful behaviour and, when compromised, can have devastating effects on movement and cognition as seen in diseases like Parkinson's. In the healthy brain, dopamine neurons are thought to play particularly important roles in learning by signalling errors in reward prediction. The objective of this thesis was to investigate the diversity in the functional properties of the midbrain dopamine system, and how this is altered through genetic variation of relevance to Parkinson's and development of cell phenotype. This objective was addressed with a combination of behavioural experiments, in vivo single-cell recording and labelling (both in anaesthetised as well as awake rodents), immunofluorescence labelling, retrograde tracing and stereology. In a first set of experiments, it was demonstrated that chronic as well as acute genetic challenges can alter the firing patterns of midbrain dopamine neurons. Using a novel bacterial artificial chromosome-transgenic rat model, it was shown that the R1441C mutation in human leucine-rich repeat kinase 2, which is linked to Parkinson's, leads to motor deficits and an age-dependent reduction in the in vivo firing variability and burst firing of substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) dopamine neurons. These findings help reveal processes of early, pre-degenerative dysfunction in dopamine neurons in Parkinson's. Similar effects on firing variability and burst firing of SNc dopamine neurons were found in a mouse model with conditional knock- out of the transcription factors Forkhead box A1 and A2 (FoxA1/2) in midbrain dopamine neurons. These findings indicate that FoxA1/2 are not only crucial for the early development of dopamine neurons, but also their function in the mature brain. In a second set of experiments in wildtype mice, it was demonstrated that midbrain dopamine neurons (located in SNc and ventral tegmental area) show diverse expression of the molecular markers Calbindin, Calretinin, Aldh1a1, Sox6, Girk2, SatB1 and Otx2. It was found that selective expression of these markers is of use for discriminating between midbrain dopamine neurons that project to dorsal striatum or nucleus accumbens. To elucidate whether the diverse molecular marker expression would map onto dopamine neurons whose firing correlates with distinct behavioural events, midbrain dopamine neurons were recorded and labelled in head-fixed awake mice either exposed to neutral sensory stimuli or performing a classical conditioning paradigm. The population activity of midbrain dopamine neurons was not modulated by neutral sensory stimuli. Interestingly, fewer than 50% of identified dopamine neurons showed phasic firing increases following reward- predicting cue and/or reward delivery, despite the common assumption that most (if not all) midbrain dopamine neurons signal reward prediction errors. Instead, firing was modulated by other explanatory factors, such as licking, or showed no modulation during the task. Response types of midbrain dopamine neurons were not correlated with their anatomical location nor the selective or combinatorial expression of the markers Aldh1a1, Calbindin and Sox6. In conclusion, the first set of experiments identified how different genetic burdens can alter the in vivo firing of midbrain dopamine neurons, and provide new insights into how circuits can change in pathological or compensatory ways at early disease stages in Parkinson's. The second set of experiments revealed striking heterogeneity of midbrain dopamine neurons in the intact system, and established further a functional diversity in the response types of identified midbrain dopamine neurons that is only partially consistent with canonical reward prediction error signalling.

The transcription factor FoxA2 and its closely related family member FoxA1 have been shown to both be expressed in the visceral and definitive endoderm, node, notochord and floor plate. Both factors have been shown to function as transcriptional activators and recognize the same DNA elements in vitro, suggesting that they may be functionally equivalent. However, there is increasing evidence, which suggest that they may play different roles in vivo. In order to begin to address whether FoxA1 is equivalent to FoxA2 in vivo, I used a gene targeting approach to replace the FoxA2 gene with the coding region of FoxA1, thus placing FoxA1 under the control of the FoxA2 regulatory elements. Screening of over 1600 clones allowed the identification of two correctly targeted ES cell lines. These ES cell lines will be an essential tool to address the functional equivalence of FoxA1 and FoxA2 in vivo.

This thesis presents a Strategic-Relational (SR) analysis of the processes ofchange and continuity in Mexican foreign policy during the Fox government. In2000, the election of President Fox determined the victory of a new party after71 years of Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) rule, producing thedemocratisation of the country. Domestic and international changes generatedby the end of the Cold War, and the presence of new actors in the Mexicanscenario created momentum for the country, helped also by the introduction ofa new foreign policy paradigm. Despite the significance of these elements, thestudy of their reciprocal influence in foreign policy has been neglected. Thesetransformations and the discrepancy between the discourse of change and itsimplementation are considered an ideal scenario for the study of continuity andchange in foreign policy-making. This research focuses on the application ofJessop and Hay’s Strategic-Relational Approach (SRA), considered able togenerate an understanding of this complex process of interaction. However,although the SRA theorises the impact of these interplays in policy-making,scarce consideration has been given to this approach in the study of foreignpolicy change. Therefore, the thesis aims to understand the dynamicsgrounding Fox’s foreign policy, employing the SRA to identify those conditionsnecessary for the implementation of change and appreciate how the interplayamong different elements was manifest. After explaining the SRA and its relevance to the study of change in foreignpolicy, the thesis provides a historical framework explaining Mexico’s evolutionin the years up to 2000. Building on these chapters, three empirical casestudies presenting different degrees of foreign policy change are then analysedthrough the SRA. They respectively consider Mexico’s approach topeacekeeping operations, its participation in the United Nations SecurityCouncil and its refusal to support the Iraq War, and Mexico’s internationalapproach to human rights. The thesis compares how, in the presence ofconsistent general conditions, the processes of change and continuity weredifferently implemented. The interplay established among the fundamental SRelements is interpreted as pivotal in every empirical chapter for its capacity toaccount for the complexity of the foreign policy process and the generation ofconcrete change in foreign policy.

Considering the diversity of theories available on the treatment of metaphor, we have two methodological options of study: either we approach it under the foundations of one area and analyze the object from the constructed properties within the scope of the approach; or we construct an interface repackaging, in which we put into play complex properties that delimit a third object built on the borderlines of disciplines in dialogue (CAMPOS, 2007). In the study that we propose, we illustrate this second approach, putting into dialogue the foundations of Linguistics, especially Pragmatics - via Grice's Theory of Implicatures (1967; 1975) and via Relevance Theory, by Sperber and Wilson (1986; 2008) and Wilson and Sperber, (2012) - and Psicolinguistics (GLUCKSBERG et al., 2007; BOWDLE and GENTNER, 2005), on the one hand; and, on the other, Neuroscience, through a qualitative meta-analysis constructed by the study of twenty fMRI experiments, from which the circuitry of the neurological processing of the metaphor is described. In this meta-analysis, we have tried to elucidate the nature of the theoretical approach and its implications in the design of the experiments and in the results achieved, in order to collect elements to compose the meta-theoretical approach of the interface that we proposed. In a second moment, then, we elevate the properties constructed in the scope of each area to the condition of meta-theoretical properties of the metaphor, with the purpose of putting into dialogue theories with distinct granularity and of proposing an alternative to the mapping problem (POEPPEL, 2012) resulting from a study of this nature. We thus have constructed a third, more complex object by deepening the descriptive and explanatory potential of the treatment given to the metaphor. Therefore, we see that, from an interface approach, two consequences emerge: the first, epistemological, because we contribute in the debate about the properties of the metaphor theories in interface, from whose dialogue the revitalization of the foundations in dialogue results; the second, theoretical, because we also contribute to the debate about the properties of the metaphor itself. The proposed interface emphasizes the potential of such approaches by extending possibilities for new treatments of different objects of linguistic research, including the metaphor itself.
Considerando a diversidade de teorias que temos ? disposi??o sobre o tratamento da met?fora, temos duas op??es metodol?gicas de estudo: ou a abordamos sob os fundamentos de uma ?rea e analisamos o objeto a partir das propriedades constru?das dentro do escopo da abordagem; ou constru?mos uma roupagem de interface, em que colocamos em jogo propriedades complexas que delimitam um objeto terceiro constru?do nas fronteiras das disciplinas em di?logo (CAMPOS, 2007). No estudo que propomos, ilustramos essa segunda abordagem, colocando em di?logo fundamentos da Lingu?stica, em especial da Pragm?tica ? via Teoria das Implicaturas de Grice (1967; 1975) e via Teoria da Relev?ncia, de Sperber e Wilson (1986; 2008) e Wilson e Sperber, (2012) ? e da Psicolingu?stica (GLUCKSBERG et al., 2007; BOWDLE e GENTNER, 2005), de um lado; e, de outro, da Neuroci?ncia, por meio de uma meta-an?lise qualitativa constru?da pelo estudo de vinte experimentos com fMRI, a partir dos quais descreve-se a circuitaria do processamento neurol?gico da met?fora. Nessa meta-an?lise, procuramos elucidar a natureza da abordagem te?rica e suas implica??es no design dos experimentos e nos resultados alcan?ados, no intuito de recolhermos elementos para compor a abordagem metate?rica da interface que propusemos. Num segundo momento, ent?o, al?amos ? condi??o de propriedades metate?ricas da met?fora as propriedades constru?das no escopo de cada ?rea, com o prop?sito de colocar em di?logo teorias com granularidade distinta e de propor uma alternativa ao mapping problem (POEPPEL, 2012) decorrente de um estudo dessa natureza. O que se propõe neste estudo é investigar os procedimentos que em uma obra literária levam ao efeito de ―Fora na linguagem‖. O que é esse Fora? Que gama de efeitos produz? Quais os procedimentos para fazê-lo existir em uma obra de arte, na literatura em particular? Eis algumas das questões que nos interessam. Para desenvolver tal procura em busca do Fora, utilizaremos como suporte e corpus teórico autores que seguiram a trilha do Fora na linguagem, tais como Roland Barthes, Maurice Blanchot, Gilles Deleuze, Pierre-Félix Guattari, Tatiana Salem Levy, dentre outros. Será a partir de cinco obras previamente selecionadas que exploraremos alguns dos procedimentos que levam ao Fora, assim como seu conceito aplicado à literatura: ―A Terceira Margem do Rio‖ e ―Meu Tio Iauaretê‖, de Guimarães Rosa; Mar Paraguayo, de Wilson Bueno; Bodenlos: uma autobiografia filosófica, de Vilém Flusser e Bartleby, o escrivão, Herman Melville. Nosso objetivo não será analisar tais obras, mas, a partir delas, observar alguns dos procedimentos que levam ao Fora. Portanto, tomaremos delas apenas os recortes necessários. Falaremos do que força o pensamento a pensar, do que antecede o pensar. Falaremos do Fora e do plano de imanência; dos corpos sem órgãos; dos devires moleculares e molares. Falaremos de linhas; pontos, encontros, fugas; máquinas; superfície de registro; produção, processo; fluxos e rupturas. Falaremos de limiares; entremeios; gradientes; fragmentações; linhas e margens que se desmancham, desdobram, invaginam, explodem; intensidades e potências; territorialização e desterritorialização.
What is proposed in this study is to investigate the procedures in a literary work lead to the effect of "Out in the language." What is this out? Range of effects that produce? What procedures exist to make it into a work of art, literature in particular? Here are some of the issues that concern us. To develop such a search to search out , we use as support and theoretical corpus authors who followed the trail out of the language , such as Roland Barthes , Maurice Blanchot , Gilles Deleuze , Félix Guattari Pierre - Tatiana Salem Levy , among others . Para o projecto final de Mestrado foi-nos proposta a realização de uma curta-metragem que reflectisse sobre um tema em específico. Aos finalistas deste ano a escolha recaiu sobre o “Fora-de-campo”. Este tema passou então a ter uma importância especial em todas as fases da criação e execução do projecto, desde a criação do enredo até à finalização do filme, passando obviamente pela realização.
No meu caso em específico comecei por me propor à realização independente de uma curta-metragem, tal como os meus colegas. No entanto esta situação alterou-se durante a fase da pré-produção. Durante uma conversa com o meu orientador de Mestrado, o Prof. Luís Nogueira, e após este tomar conhecimento que eu iria fazer os efeitos visuais e pós-produção do projecto de outro colega, decidimos que visto esta ser uma área pela qual eu me interesso bastante, talvez se justificasse que o meu projecto final se concentrasse nesta questão, ao invés de fazer um outro projecto independentemente. A verdade é que para se atingir o produto final que é um filme, são necessárias várias “partes” independentes umas das outras. No filme que José Ratinho, o meu colega, idealizou, a pós-produção tem um peso igual a todas as outras partes. Lemuria, o nome do filme e da nave espacial onde este se passa, é um filme de ficção científica. O cenário principal é uma nave espacial onde os seus tripulantes interagem. A acção estende-se por 5 cenários diferentes. Numa abordagem tradicional estes cenários teriam em grande parte de ser construídos. Num filme académico com o orçamento reduzido que possuíamos foi necessário optar por outro solução. Os cenários da nave seriam construídos digitalmente, e toda a acção seria filmada com os actores em frente a um fundo verde.
Isto leva-nos de volta ao tema do projecto, o Fora-de-campo, e a importância que este tem neste filme em particular. O Fora-de-campo, na sua definição mais generalista, resume-se a toda a acção ou elemento desta, que não está visível em determinado enquadramento. A sua utilização no cinema tem várias funcionalidades. Pode ser utilizado como forma de ocultar um acto violento, aumentar a tensão ou despertar a curiosidade no espectador. Pode simplesmente ser um olhar lançado por um personagem através de uma janela. Pode ser uma voz do outro lado do telefone. Pode ser um tiro ou uma sirene que se ouve ao fundo numa qualquer cidade metropolitana, ou um acontecimento recordado durante uma conversa entre dois personagens.
Mas o fora de campo pode ser muito mais. Pode ser a situação social em que se vivia quando determinado filme foi rodado, pode ser a relação entre actores por trás das câmaras que acaba por se reflectir num filme, e, mais recentemente, e devido à crescente importância que os efeitos visuais têm no cinema actual, o “Fora-de-campo” acaba por se inverter – o que vemos no enquadramento muitas vezes não estava lá. Actores representam sozinhos em frente a um pano verde, caminham por planícies desertas onde mais tarde nascem cidades de proporções épicas.
No caso específico de “Lemuria”, e no âmbito da minha participação, este “Fora-deCampo” é realizado por mim. Eu produzi o que vemos no ecrã na grande maioria dos planos. O que o espectador não vê, devido ao meu trabalho, são os fundos verdes e os gestos vazios no ar, actores que fingem correr sem sair do lugar. Os espectadores verão seis tripulantes de uma nave espacial com painéis de controlo flutuantes. Verão estes seis tripulantes a percorrer um corredor. Verão o interior de um POD de fuga com uma janela por onde se vê uma nuvem de gás e um planeta. Assumirão então que este filme se passa no espaço. Todo este Fora-de-Campo, todas estas noções exteriores ao filme são adicionadas na pós-produção do filme, área pela qual nutro grande interesse.
Apesar de ao longo dos seis anos de academia que já percorri, distribuídos por uma Licenciatura em Cinema e um Mestrado em Realização que agora termino, nunca ter tido nenhuma cadeira que me instruísse neste campo, o meu interesse sempre esteve voltado para ele. As centenas de horas de auto-instrução e pesquisa dotaram-me com as ferramentas necessárias para me conseguir libertar das restrições impostas pela falta de fundos e condições que sempre nos impediram, a nós, alunos de Cinema, almejar trabalhos e géneros que de outra forma seriam virtualmente impossíveis de explorar. Ao longo deste relatório vou tentar enumerar e justificar os métodos aplicados na pósprodução do filme, e também a planificação que antecedeu as rodagens, passando pelas escolhas criativas que foram tomadas em conjunto com o realizador.

Partindo do pressuposto de que a poesia de Arnaldo Antunes é composta por textos que fluem por diferentes suportes, pertencentes a diferentes manifestações artísticas, este trabalho pretende analisar como esta pluralidade de registros, que dialogam e interagem entre si, caracteriza seu poema não como um objeto único e concluído, mas, antes, como um processo, como uma poesia em constante re-elaboração. A flexibilidade do trabalho de Arnaldo Antunes também se evidencia pela coexistência de questões modernas e pós-modernas abordadas em seus textos, o que remete à idéia de não-fixidade e de não-rigidez, em prol das idéias de movimento e circularidade em sua poesia. Partiu-se da análise de três poemas do autor, pertencentes ao kit Nome (composto por um CD e seu encarte, um livro e uma fita de vídeo), a saber: "Soneto", "Acordo" e "Pessoa". Outros poemas também foram comentados ao longo deste trabalho, na medida em que estes me pareceram necessários ao esclarecimento de aspectos fundamentais da produção poética de Arnaldo Antunes. Assuming that the poetry of Arnaldo Antunes is composed by texts that move through different media and belong in different genres this work aims to analyse the way the unlikeness of these interactive records portrays his poetry which is characterized not simply by a soled and finished off work but mainly by a poetic developing process in constant re-elaboration. The flexibility of Arnaldo Antunes's work is also highly imprinted in his text records by the coexistence of modern and postmodern issues. This reality also leads to the idea of lack of rigorosity or stiffness but mainly to a poetry spotted by motion and mobility. Three poems have been analysed to build up these considerations. These poems are part of the kit Nome (enclosing a CD, a book and a videotape), known as: "Soneto", "Acordo", and "Pessoa". Other poems have been commented in the course of this analysis whenever they were thought to be a requisite to enlighten aspects of Arnaldo Antunes's poetic production.

Neste trabalho são analisadas questões relacionadas aos processos identitários recorrentes na cidade de Garopaba/SC, especificamente no centro histórico. Em tais processos, as relações entre "nativos" e "de fora" são dominantes. A análise permeou práticas e discursos de seus diversos moradores e freqüentadores. Constatou-se que para os "nativos" há um ideário comum ligado ao centro histórico, seja através das práticas atreladas ao mar, seja aos hábitos açorianos como os da pesca e das comidas, bem como as especificidades presentes nos jogos de comunicação, gírias locais, nomes dados aos becos do centro histórico, a tradição da organização da festa de Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes, entre outras. Para eles, "Os ?de fora' sempre serão "de fora"'. Já, para os "de fora", os "nativos" precisam ser conscientizados de seus valores, de suas paisagens, de seus bem patrimoniais, para assumirem sua condição de "nativos". Esta série de percepções e sentidos que abarcam as identidades em Garopaba, particularmente no centro histórico, oscilam entre posições e lugares caracterizados por certa fluidez e flexibilidade. Pode-se concluir que os contornos territoriais do centro histórico, aliados às práticas e aos usos realizados naquele local, expressam as características presentes em tais relações.

Economic data concerning the costs and benefits of Inuit subsistence in the Igloolik region of Nunavut were collected during the summer of 1992. The purpose of the research was to develop a method of valuation to showcase the high "profit", in economic terms, that harvested country food provides.Wildlife harvesting in Inuit communities represents a traditional way of life which is threatened by the increasing expansion of wage employment, industrial development and the availability of store bought food. However, rather than having a marginalizing effect, these changes make subsistence hunting an essential economic activity.
This thesis develops a method to measure the harvest of country food through a dollar value standard thus quantifying the real economic benefits of Inuit subsistence. The value of harvested food can then be compared economically to store bought food. This comparison shows that subsistence hunting provides Inuit with a relatively inexpensive food source, equivalent to $6 million of income ``in kind'' per community in the Baffin Region. In this era of store bought food and wage employment, Inuit communities remain economically and socially integrated through subsistence hunting. Without harvesting, northern communities would be culturally and nutritionally poorer than at any time in the past.

The participation in the labor market is a key item for which the young begin their professional career, even when he starts his stage economically active as an intern for a small company, for example. The development of skills in theory and practice, in all moments in the life of a human being, lead that person to accumulate human capital. Despite being natural that the young chooses to perform some of these activities, 12.9% of people opt for being out of the labor market and out of school (NEET). Despite being natural that the young chooses to perform some of these activities, 12.9% of people opt for being out of the labor market and without school attendance (NOR). Thus, the aim of this research is to analyze the effects of socioeconomic factors and household associated with the likelihood of the young be in situation nor-nor, by gender, by means of a probit model and a decay non-linear Oaxaca-Blinder. For this study, are used microdata from the Demographic Census of 2010 in metropolitan areas of Brazil, to young people aged 15 to 24 years. The results indicate that some factors have an impact on a larger proportion of the situation of being out of the labor market and the abandonment of the school of women, such as, for example, marriage, appointments with the family and age. This jointly affect your financial independence and their schooling and this can be a choice voluntarily or involuntarily, in which the second choice can cause social problems. Beyond that, the subjective effects that impact the young NEET have a much greater expression than what was explain in the empirical model and has more impact in this NEET situation for the female sex. This can be seen by inheritance from Western colonization, as well as differences in the cultural values absorbed by men and women. And, perhaps the biggest concern of all, the presence of domestic violence as a possible factor of permanence of the woman in the NEET situation, by the imprisonment of a women´s body and mind added to a low self esteem context (Gomes et al., 2012) and Little qualification (VIEIRA; PERDONA; SANTOS, 2011).
A participação no mercado de trabalho é um item fundamental para que o jovem inicie sua carreira profissional, mesmo quando ele inicie sua fase economicamente ativa como estagiário de uma pequena empresa, por exemplo. A evolução das habilidades teóricas e práticas, em todos os momentos da vida de um ser humano, levam essa pessoa a acumular capital humano. Apesar de ser natural que o jovem opte por realizar alguma dessas atividades, 12,9% das pessoas optam por estar fora do mercado de trabalho e sem frequência escolar (nem-nem). Dessa forma, o objetivo da presente pesquisa é analisar os efeitos dos fatores socioeconômicos e domiciliares associados à probabilidade de o jovem estar em situação nem-nem, por gênero, por meio de um modelo probit e de uma decomposição não linear de Oaxaca-Blinder. Para essa pesquisa, são utilizados os microdados do Censo Demográfico de 2010 das regiões metropolitanas do Brasil, para jovens de 15 a 24 anos. Os resultados indicam que alguns fatores impactam em maior proporção a situação de estar fora do mercado de trabalho e o abandono da escola das mulheres, como, por exemplo, o matrimônio, compromissos com a família e idade maior de 19 anos. Essa conjunta afeta sua independência financeira e sua escolarização e isso pode ser uma escolha voluntária ou involuntária, na qual a segunda opção pode gerar problemas sociais. Já os efeitos subjetivos que impactam o jovem nem-nem possuem uma expressão muito maior do que as explicações do modelo empírico e prejudica de forma mais expressiva essa situação para o sexo feminino. Isso pode ser visto pela herança da colonização ocidental, além das diferenças nos valores culturais absorvidos por homens e mulheres. E, talvez como realidade mais preocupante, a presença da violência doméstica como possível fator de permanência da mulher na situação nem-nem, pelo aprisionamento do corpo e da mente em um contexto de baixo autoestima (GOMES et al., 2012) e pouca qualificação (tanto profissional quanto em escolarização) (VIEIRA; PERDONA; SANTOS, 2011).

Journalists and politicians often disagree over whether the state of freedom of information is better or worse since the passage of the Freedom of Information Act in 1966. This study attempts to provide some historical context by comparing the state of access in 1953 as outlined in detail in The People's Right to Know by Harold L. Cross, the first comprehensive review of case law and statutes in the United States regarding access to public records at local, state and federal agencies. Analysis indicates that the legal right to information, particularly for police records and federal documents, is better today than it was in 1953, but challenges persist regarding compliance, enforcement and the prevalence of exemptions. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of explanatory style to academic performance, SAT or ACT composite scores, College Student Inventory (CSI) data, and retention or attrition of Montana State University College of Agriculture students. The predictive capability of measured independent variables to anticipate first to second year attrition of freshmen in the College of Agriculture (COA) at Montana State University (MSU) was tested. The potential for using the Academic Attributional Style Questionnaire (AASQ) to identify COA students most susceptible to attrition during their freshmen year at MSU was ascertained. Freshmen took the CSI during summer orientation and the AASQ was administered to students in four COA classes. A cohort group of COA full-time, first-time freshmen that had taken both the CSI and AASQ was established and tracked from the fall of 2004 through the fall of 2005. Retention was defined as enrollment in the COA for a second fall semester. The majority of the cohort group was female, white/Caucasian, had been enrolled in a high school agriculture class, graduated from high schools with enrollments less than 400 students, had been involved in 4-H or FFA, and intended to seek a graduate level degree. Mothers were more highly educated than fathers. Most students planned to work while in college. The only independent variable significantly correlated with retention was second semester cumulative GPA. The combination of second semester cumulative GPA, plans to work, degree sought, and high school agriculture class enrollment was able to predict 19 percent of the variance in retention rates. However, contrary to the literature, high school agriculture class enrollment was negatively correlated with retention. The majority of students demonstrated neither optimistic nor pessimistic explanatory styles. Significant relationships were shown between explanatory style and high school GPA, study habits, sociability, and openness to financial guidance. The AASQ demonstrated little value for recognizing students in the cohort susceptible to attrition from the COA, but did indicate some usefulness for use as an advising tool.

All fifty U.S. states have some form of property tax relief for agricultural land. Preferential assessment of agricultural land for property taxes distorts the like treatment of equally valuable real property. However, property taxes are administered as a part of the nation's tax system. The effect of preferential assessment for agricultural land must be evaluated within the tax system. A formal model of land values and times of converting agricultural land to urban uses is developed in this thesis. A property tax on land, a rollback tax, an income tax, and a capital gains tax are applied to the model, and the optimal time of conversion is examined. Comparative static results are discussed by simulating the tax rates. Property tax preferences for agricultural land, when administered in a vacuum, delay conversion to urban uses. Rollback taxes, intended to penalize conversion of land out of agricultural uses, have little effect on the allocation of land. Land rents and capital gains are effectively untaxed for land in owner-occupied housing. Property tax preferences are small in comparison with these preferences for land in owner-occupied housing; thus, the tax system's bias is to allocate more land to housing. However, land rents and capital gains are taxed for land in commercial use, allocating land to agricultural over commercial uses. The effect of the property tax is to reduce the allocation of land to commercial uses and to mitigate the bias created by other taxes when land is converted to housing. Thus, the current tax policy does not necessarily promote an inefficient allocation of land.

We have developed a revolutionary spectroscopic technique for solar research in the extreme ultraviolet. This slitless spectrographic technique allows snapshot imaging spectroscopy with data exactly cotemporal and cospectral. I have contributed to the successful realization of an application of this technique in the Multi-Order Solar EUV Spectrograph, MOSES. This instrument launched 2006 Feb 8 as a NASA sounding rocket payload and successfully returned remarkable data of the solar transition region in the He II 304 Angstrom spectral line. The unique design of this spectrometer allows the study of transient phenomena in the solar atmosphere, with spatial, spectral, and temporal resolution heretofore unachievable in concert, over a wide field of view. The fundamental concepts behind the MOSES spectrometer are broadly applicable to many solar spectral lines and phenomena and the instrument thus represents a new instrumentation technology. The early fruits of this labor are here reported: the first scientific discovery with the MOSES sounding rocket instrument, our observation of a transition region explosive event, phenomena observed with slit spectrographs since at least 1975, most commonly in lines of C IV (1548 Angstrom, 1550 Angstrom) and Si IV (1393 Angstrom, 1402 Angstrom). This explosive event is the first seen in He II 304 Angstrom. With our novel slitless imaging spectrograph, we are able to see the spatial structure of the event. We observe a bright core expelling two jets that are distinctly non-collinear, in directions that are not anti-parallel, in contradiction to standard models of explosive events, which give collinear jets. The jets have sky-plane velocities of order 75km s -¹ and line-of-sight velocities of +75km s -¹ (blue) and -30km s -¹ (red). The core is a region of high non-thermal doppler broadening, characteristic of explosive events, with maximal broadening 380 km s -¹ FWHM. It is possible to resolve the core broadening into red and blue line-of-sight components of maximum doppler velocities +160 km s -¹ and -220km s -¹. The event lasts more than 150 s. Its properties correspond to the larger, long-lived, and more energetic explosive events observed in other wavelengths.

O núcleo desta tese é o conjunto da minha produção artística entre os anos de 2004 e 2008, período em que se deu este doutorado. O texto que acompanha as imagens dos trabalhos descreve cronologicamente cada experiência, desde sua elaboração até a execução, como um evento concatenado a experiências anteriores e posteriores, desdobradas no tempo. Esses trabalhos não apenas partem de indagações a respeito do lugar em que estão inseridos, o que poderia identificá-los com a prática do site-specific, mas têm uma vontade de confundir-se com o próprio lugar, têm a intenção de sê-lo. Nesse sentido, talvez o ânimo da obra aqui relatada não venha de um intrincamento com um lugar específico, mas de intrincamento específico com qualquer lugar. A questão oscila entre dois lados no conjunto do trabalho, e mantém-se em suspenso um julgamento conclusivo sobre a dualidade que nomeia esta tese, que a rigor parece não existir: visto de dentro, visto de fora.The core of this thesis is the ensemble of my artistic production between the years 2004 and 2008, which was the period when I was undertaking my PhD course. The text accompanying the images chronologically describes each experience, from its inception to its execution, as an event connected to previous and subsequent experiences, unfolded in time. These point of departure of these works go beyond issues apropos of the place in which they are inserted and that might have identified them with the practice of site-specific. The works aim at integrating themselves with each place, they aim at being that very place. In this sense, the moving force behind the works here presented may stem not so much from a relationship of entanglement with a specific place, but with a specific relation of entanglement with any place. Within the ensemble of the work, this issue oscillates between two sides and keeps a conclusive judgement about the duality that names this thesis in suspension. Rigorously speaking, this duality may even seem not to exist: viewed from the inside, viewed from the outside.

Resumo: O tema da presente tese é a violência feminina e o encarceramento de mulheres que passaram pelo sistema penitenciário paranaense, entre os anos de 1970 e 1995. Analisamos os prontuários criminais de detentas e a partir das fontes traçamos os vários delitos cometidos por elas, com amplo destaque para os crimes de furto, roubo, homicídio e tráfico de drogas, ao longo do período. Temos como objetivo a análise da trajetória dessas mulheres, autoras de violência e delitos, no que tange à inserção e participação no crime. Abordamos também as formas de controle e os traços do cotidiano e das relações sociais construídas por elas dentro da prisão. Para essa discussão, nos reportamos aos referenciais teóricos de Michel Foucault, Erving Goffman e aos estudos de gênero, bem como travamos um diálogo multidisciplinar com diversas áreas do conhecimento, como a Antropologia, a Sociologia, o Direito, entre outras.

This work consists of a discussion, analysis and reading of Borges?stories, in that the problem of interest pronounces to the language, to the speech and the deed, sending them so much to the Literature with relationship to the Philosophy, so much to the statute of the ficcional, with relationship to the of the ontologic. In that optics, it intends to show the Borges deed as warp of the death, of the allegorical and of the metaphorical, in the sense of bringing for the ficcional lines different from the Real, elaborating the speech for besides the statement, reaching the interstic, the silence, the interruptions and the suspension of the representation. Mestrado em GeoinformáticaAnualmente, realizam-se no país inúmeras iniciativas de Todo-Terreno Turístico (TTT) onde são automaticamente registadas as coordenadas de Global Positioning System (GPS) por aplicações de dispositivos móveis. Este tipo de informação pode ser utilizada, quer para fins de divulgação turística, quer por outro tipo de entidades que necessitem de circular nesses caminhos rurais, tipicamente no meio da montanha. Entre outras, são registadas a posição, velocidade e altitude do veículo, o que permite obter informações relevantes, tais como, se o percurso se encontra transitável ou qual a velocidade recomendada. Por exemplo, durante os combates a incêndios, os bombeiros e proteção civil poderão saber se estes percursos são utilizáveis no planeamento dos combates a incêndios com reduzida probabilidade de complicações relativa ao acesso dos veículos, melhorando assim o tempo de resposta. O presente documento discute como poderá ser concebida uma aplicação web mapping, de código aberto, que permita a partilha, utilização e valorização de dados relativos aos percursos todo-terreno dos praticantes de TTT. O presente documento descreve como a aplicação desenvolvida no âmbito da dissertação de mestrado permite selecionar e ordenar possíveis trajetos que incluem os trajetos de TTT, apresentando as caraterísticas do terreno de modo a auxiliar a tomada de decisão por membros das corporações de Bombeiros. Será igualmente apresentada a interface atual da aplicação que inclui um mapa dinâmico e um gestor de pontos de referência.
Each year, several touristic off-road initiatives (TTT, from Portuguese Todo- Terreno Turístico) are organized, where Global Positioning System (GPS) track coordinates are recorded by participants, using handheld devices. This kind of information can be used either for tourism advertisement, or by other entities who need to use such roads, typically in rough terrains. Among other, vehicle position, speed, and altitude are usually registered. This data allows for inferring relevant information, such as the difficulty of the road and the recommended speed for a variety of scenarios. For instance, during fire-fighting, fire and civil protection can verify if these paths are useful and appropriate for their vehicles, reducing the likelihood of vehicle access complications, thus improving response time. This dissertation discusses the design of an open source web mapping application that features track sharing and recovery of data on such tracks, in order to generate value for other activities. It describes how the application selects and sorts paths, composed by off-road tracks and regular roads, using diverse features to assist the decision making process of institutions, such as Fire Department corporations. The current interface of the application is presented, which includes a dynamic map and a landmark manager.

L’archéologie de l’Arctique canadien, bien qu’ayant fait une large place à certaines catégories d’objets, telles les têtes de harpon, n’a encore que peu exploité la grande richesse informative des objets en matières dures d’origine animale. Une périodisation typologique a été réalisée sur l’ensemble de la période du Paléoesquimau (~ 4000-500 B.P.), classiquement subdivisée en Prédorsétien et Dorsétien au Canada. Les pratiques techniques et économiques des Paléoesquimaux ont été abordées à partir de l’étude de six sites localisés autour du Golfe de Foxe, région centrale pour l’archéologie arctique : région d’Igloolik (Parry Hill, Lyon Hill, Jens Munk, Freuchen et Kaersut) et nord du Nunavik (Tayara). Les données typologiques et technologiques obtenues permettent de confirmer l’existence d’un continuum culturel entre Prédorsétien et Dorsétien. L’évolution des industries en matières dures d’origine animale observée, notamment au moment du passage du Prédorsétien au Dorsétien, a été interprétée en termes de changements socio-culturels. Un fait marquant serait l’apparition des têtes de harpon à logette partiellement fermée, contemporaine d’une intensification de l’exploitation du morse, témoignant de chasses désormais collectives qui auraient incité les chasseurs à séjourner désormais ensemble dans des habitations plus grandes, occupées sur de plus longues périodes. Mots-clés : Paléoesquimau ; Arctique ; technologie ; typologie ; ivoire ; os ; bois de caribou ; CanadaThe studied ivory, bone and antler artifacts from the Canadian Arctic, only correspond to harpoon heads that served to build the Palaeo-Eskimo chronology (~ 4000-500 B.P.). To ascertain the chronological subdivision between the Pre-Dorset and Dorset cultures a typological study associated with a technological approach was performed. Palaeo-Eskimo technological and economical practices have been derived from the study of six sites located around the Foxe Basin: Igloolik region (Parry Hill, Lyon Hill, Jens Munk, Freuchen and Kaersut sites) and northern Nunavik (Tayara site). The assumption of a Pre-Dorset/Dorset continuum could be confirmed. The observed evolution of osseous industries during Palaeo-Eskimo period (and more precisely the Pre-Dorset/Dorset transition) has been interpreted in terms of socio-cultural changes. The observed technological changes (i.e. harpoon head hafting) could be associated with new patterns of raw material exploitation (diversification in the selection of materials and anatomical elements, as well as functional categories). They testify to the important socio-cultural changes (collective rather than individual hunting) already observed in the settlement patterns (aggregation of the humans in larger houses for longer time periods). Resumo: O nosso trabalho tem como principal objetivo entender as transformações ocorridas com a riqueza pessoal em Juiz de Fora, no final do século XIX e início do XX, mais precisamente, no período que vai de 1870 até 1914. Entendemos que após a abolição da escravidão no Brasil, com a modernização e a riqueza geradas principalmente pelo café, a sociedade também sofreria transformações, as mais variadas. Trabalhamos com uma pequena mas significativa parcela da população, formada por indivíduos que, pertencendo a um determinado grupo social detentor de maior parte da riqueza, serviriam de mostra do comportamento dessa sociedade quanto à composição da riqueza desse grupo de particulares. Se antes do processo de abolição atingir seu fim o escravo era o principal ativo, ou melhor, o mais significativo, entre as opções de bens que existiam naquele momento, seguido de café e dívidas ativas, esse quadro sofreria algumas modificações no período posterior ao final da utilização da mão-de-obra escrava no Brasil, resultado dessa série de mudanças estruturais que ocorriam no país nesse momento

No rim, a maior parte da carga de glicose filtrada é reabsorvida na porção inicial do túbulo proximal, no qual são co-expressos os transportadores: SGLT2 e GLUT2. No diabetes mellitus ocorre aumento no fluxo transepitelial de glicose, o que decorre de aumento na expressão desses transportadores, e pode ser revertido pelo tratamento com insulina. Os fatores transcricionais HNF1A, HNF4A e FOXA2 são descritos como potenciais reguladores do gene Slc2a2. A proteína AKT medeia efeitos da insulina, e é capaz de ativar fatores transcricionais. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar em linhagem celular IRPTC, o efeito da alta concentração de glicose e da insulina sobre a expressão de Slc2a2/GLUT2 e Slc5a2/SGLT2, assim como a participação da AKT e dos fatores transcricionais. Observamos que a alta concentração de glicose aumentou a expressão do Slc2a2/GLUT2 e a atividade de ligação dos fatores transcricionais HNF4A e FOXA2 na região promotora do gene Slc2a2, por mecanismo mediado pela AKT. A insulina reverteu o efeito sobre o Slc2a2, porém não alterou o conteúdo de GLUT2.Glucose filtrated load is reabsorbed in renal proximal tubule by the coordinate action of the glucose transporters SGLT2 and GLUT2. In diabetes, renal glucose reabsorption increases; that involves overexpression of the glucose transporters, and is reversed by insulin therapy. The transcription factors HNF1A, HNF4A and FOXA2 have been proposed as modulators of Slc2a2 gene expression. The AKT protein is an important mediator of insulin action, and has been able to activate transcription factors. The present study investigates in immortalized rat proximal tubule cells the effects of high glucose and insulin concentrations upon the Slc2a2/GLUT2 and Slc5a2/SGLT2 expression, as well as the participation of AKT, HNF1A, HNF4A and FOXA2. On the other hand, 25 mM glucose increased the expression of Slc2a2GLUT2, which was accompanied by increased HNF4A and FOXA2 binding in the Slc2a2 promoter, in an AKT-mediated way. Insulin reversed the Slc2a2 mRNA regulation, but did not alter GLUT2 content.

Ao considerar obsoleta a compreensão atual do direito, o autor sugeriu a busca de uma nova forma de ver a questão, rumo a um direito antidisciplinar, mas ao mesmo tempo liberto do princípio da soberania. A ausência de maiores esclarecimentos de Foucault sobre sua proposta e seu conseqüente abandono promoveram uma divisão na doxografia analisada. Por um lado, defende-se que o direito novo é uma idéia pouco útil para a teoria do direito. Por outro, acredita-se que é possível conduzi-lo em direção a uma crítica do pensamento jurídico atual. Para tentar responder a esse impasse, o trabalho tem como primeiro objetivo interligar o direito novo com o restante das menções de Michel Foucault sobre direito, tanto anteriores como posteriores a 1976. Após, o segundo objetivo é entender quais as características gerais da obra do autor que o levaram à proposta de um direito novo, admitindo-se que elas seriam responsáveis pelas dificuldades de sua explicação. Quanto ao primeiro objetivo, a leitura dos livros, cursos e textos esparsos revela que Foucault nunca teve uma preocupação especial com o direito, nem pretendia formular uma visão geral sobre esse domínio. Além disso, a proposta do direito novo de 1976 não foi retomada pelo autor, pelo que restou como um ponto abandonado dentro de sua obra. Quanto ao segundo objetivo, a pesquisa identificou que o direito novo é fruto da tentativa foucaultiana de produzir uma resistência que escape das relações de poder, para com isso não cair no “paradoxo da resistência esperada”, e também do seu apelo recorrente à dimensão do Fora, segundo a descrição formulada pelo também francês Gilles Deleuze. Como é impossível, no modelo filosófico de Foucault, admitir um saber fora do saber, desconectado das relações históricas de poder e lastreado numa resistência vinda do Fora, conclui-se que o direito novo é uma conjectura inviável, que revela traços relevantes do pensamento do autor, mas não pode ser desenvolvida em termos puramente foucaultianos

The mouse node is the structural equivalent of Spemann's Organizer. The transcription factor Foxa2 (HNF3beta) is required for node and notochord specification and its enhancer has been characterized to a 500bp element that drives the expression of a reporter gene to the node and notochord in transgenic embryos.The aim of the study was to identify sequence elements, within this enhancer, required to drive node/notochord specific-expression. Since, in the Xenopus organizer, Siamois activates organizer-specific gene expression, it was tested whether this factor could activate expression from the Foxa2 node-specific enhancer. Using deletion analysis, the response element was mapped to a 33bp region and it was shown that this element was both necessary and sufficient for reporter gene activation by X-Siamois . Furthermore, it was shown that X-Siamois can bind this DNA element and two sequence motifs required for binding and transactivation by X-Siamois were identified. Preliminary results suggest that the 33bp element, within the 500bp enhancer, is required for the maintenance of expression in the notochord of transgenic mice.

Espaço Imprevisto é uma pesquisa que busca pensar a relação entre o indivíduo e o espaço urbano, com seus fluxos e suas lógicas de demarcação. Na prática artística são utilizadas como instrumentos as noções de borda, linha, território e fronteira, representadas por objetos que passam a se comportar como um alfabeto para a construção de um texto próprio a ser colocado em página. As ações promovem uma reconfiguração de espaços e são motivadas por reinterpretações e recodificacões de suas lógicas de uso convencionais e também por indagações acerca da propriedade desses espaços. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
Unforeseen Space is a research that seeks to reflect on the relation between the individual and the urban space, with its flows and inner demarcation logics. In the artistic practice, the concepts of border, line, territory and frontier are used as instruments, being represented by objects that behave as an alphabet to be used for the construction of a text ready to be set up on a page. These actions also undertake a reconfiguration of spaces and are motivated by re-interpretations e re-codings of their conventional use of logic and also by inquiries into the property of these spaces.

The equation of motion of the corresponding order parameter is a stochastic Ginzburg-Landau-Langevin equation, derived from the quantum effective action of the theory. This equation incorporates additive and multiplicative noises, which allows to study the role of fluctuation and dissipation in the formation process of the condensate. The effective action is derived using the real time formalism of finite temperature quantum field theory for both the symmetric and spontaneously broken phases. For the calculation of the effective action we employ the nonperturbative method known as optimized perturbation theory and compare the corresponding results with the usual perturbation theory in the coupling constant. Numerical results for the solutions of the Ginzburg-Landau-Langevin equations are obtained through large scale mumerical simulations on a three-dimensional spatial lattice. O presente trabalho busca compreender, em termos sociológicos, o que motiva os brasileiros a optarem por carros fora-da-estrada. Esse nicho de mercado vem crescendo consideravelmente nos últimos dez anos, tanto em números de venda, quanto na quantidade de modelos que se enquadram nessa classificação. Buscou-se aqui, a partir de entrevistas com os próprios consumidores desses veículos, identificar as relações sociais que se dão a partir dessas escolhas de consumo. O embasamento teórico se constitui a partir de conceitos e críticas oriundas da Nova Sociologia Econômica, com destaque para a obra de Viviana Zelizer. Paralelamente, as contribuições de Alan Warde, que aproximam a teoria das práticas da Sociologia do Consumo, também foram importantes como referencial da pesquisa. Por fim, foi possível constatar que esses consumidores se importam mais com fatores como conforto, segurança e poder, do que com as potencialidades fora-da-estrada propriamente ditas. Logo, a escolha por esses carros te mais a ver com a forma de se relacionar com os outros indivíduos do que com um uso autêntico fora-da-estrada.

Este trabalho trata de um gênero de quadrinhos pornográficos japoneses conhecido como lolicon. Neste tipo de mangá, personagens femininas com aparência infantil se relacionam sexualmente com homens adultos. O objetivo deste estudo foi compreender como essas histórias são divulgadas no Brasil por fãs da cultura pop japonesa. O lolicon circula livremente no Japão, mas é alvo de censura no exterior porque é tido como uma forma de pornografia infantil. No território brasileiro, é traduzido e compartilhado em páginas de internet, que se tornam comunidades virtuais para os fãs. A pesquisa evidenciou mudanças na relação entre produtores e públicos de bens culturais no contexto da internet. Os criadores das histórias lançam os quadrinhos no Japão e, nem sempre, tem conhecimento da distribuição ilegal em versões digitalizadas e traduzidas, conhecidas como scanlations. Além disso, percebe-se que os próprios fãs se transformam em co-autores dessas obras, posto que traduzem e editam os materiais, muitas vezes alterando de forma significativa as histórias. A pesquisa mostrou esse processo, ao contrastar o modo de produção dessas histórias com as formas de apropriação feitas por fãs no Brasil.
Abstract: This study presents a genre of Japanese pornographic comics known as lolicon. In this type of manga, female characters with a childlike appearance have sexual intercourse with adult men. The purpose of this study was to understand how these stories are shared in Brazil by fans of Japanese pop culture. Lolicon is freely spread in Japan, but is censored abroad, since it is seen as a kind of child pornography. In the Brazilian territory, these manga are translated and shared on internet pages that become virtual communities for fans. This research has shown changes in the relation between producers and audiences of cultural goods in the internet context. The creators of these comics publish them in Japan and are not always aware of this illegal distribution, in scanned and translated version, known as scanlations. Furthermore, it seems that the fans themselves become co-authors of these works, as they often significantly change the stories in the translation and edition process. This research has shown this process by contrasting the production method with the forms of appropriation made by fans in Brazil.

La tradition orale s'amenuisant en Europe occidentale comme une peau de chagrin, l'empire de l'écrit sur les récits mythiques constitue plus que jamais un miroir déformant dont les chercheurs ont peine à se détourner. Dans cette thèse, nous avons pris le parti de réfléchir sur la pensée mythique corse à partir de son propre discours. Travaillant sur un corpus original de récits mythiques oraux, notre travail s'est organisé en trois temps : une mise au point sur les modèles narratifs et structurels à vocation universelle nous a donné l'occasion de révéler les aspects subjectifs et restrictifs d'une telle approche. Dénonçant l'approche littéraire du mythe qui ne voit dans celui-ci qu'une belle intrigue, nous avons replace les récits dans leurs cadres culturels de transmission pour y révéler une cosmologie seule à même d'éclairer la nature et le discours de ces récits mythiques. Enfin, la narrativité a été disséquée afin de rendre sa place au conteur et à son auditoire, au contexte de la narration, et à la représentation même de ce contexte. La richesse d'informations présentes dans cette narrativité pose la tradition orale comme un mode de transmission dynamique et performant. De même, la pensée mythique nous renvoie à une harmonie entre l'homme et son monde que les tenants modernes du logos ont oublié. La corse cherche aujourd'hui son identité car elle est passée en quelques années d'une civilisation sylvo-agro-pastorale à une civilisation de services sans gérer cette transition. Il nous parait souhaitable qu'elle construise une société ou science et tradition se conjugueraient pour le bien de ses enfants.

Mestrado em Criação Artística ContemporâneaNo presente trabalho tenta-se trazer de novo à discussão um leque de questões que, tendo sido levantadas no final da década de sessenta do século XX pelo movimento denominado por Arte conceptual, carecem, passados quarenta anos, de uma resposta. Nesse âmbito, traça-se um mapa possível para que tal tenha sucedido, através de uma breve análise da evolução de paradigma – Modernismo, Pós Modernismo e o devir que desagua na actualidade. Num tempo em que a arte pode ser praticamente tudo, faz todo o sentido que, com maior incidência que nos tempos precedentes, se questione não tanto o que é arte mas qual o seu papel no todo adjacente e, fundamentalmente, que princípios orientadores podem constituir uma praxis basilar para o artista contemporâneo. A prática artística contemporânea deve assumir-se, simultaneamente, como auto consciente, autocrítica e geradora de intrínsecos esboços ontológicos e fenomenológicos potenciadores de uma evolução cognitiva e sensorial (quer a nível pessoal, no seu particular, quer a nível social, no seu sentido mais lato). O cubo branco assumiu-se como arena plenipotenciária onde são esgrimidos os argumentos da arte contemporânea. A questão adjacente é que nesta arena o papel do artista vai sendo gradualmente relegado para um plano de acção quase simbólico. Na fase de pós produção, a obra, forçada a um estado de orfandade, debate-se na brancura silenciosa da galeria e o discurso que profere já não é o discurso do seu criador. É antes um discurso de tendência neutralizante, emanado por curadores, marchands ou outros intermediários – que, amiúde ocupando o lugar da crítica, actuam como tradutores ou aspirantes a co-autores. Esta inocuidade reveste a obra com um fino manto de atemporalidade ficcional que a torna, simultaneamente, um bem perecível como um artigo de moda e algo fora do seu tempo. Neste quadro, configurado por uma discreta mas poderosa mainstream global, que papel pode assumir o artista? No presente trabalho sugere-se a transmutação do lugar e estatuto do artista, com base num trabalho de reflexão que assenta nas premissas herdadas do movimento designado por Arte Conceptual. Dada a consensualidade em torno da ideia de que a arte contemporânea já não está vinculada exclusivamente à produção de “objectos” neste fim da primeira década do século XXI é, porventura, chegado o tempo de reafirmar o artista como consultor – especialmente no campo das artes visuais – reconhecendo-o como especialista multidisciplinar numa área específica do pensamento e acção humanas. A noção de desmaterialização da obra assume aqui uma importância chave, não ao nível do desaparecimento da obra em si, mas da forma como se transmuta ao nível da apresentação do conteúdo. A urgência de repensar o lugar da arte dá lugar, no contexto conjuntural apresentado, à urgência de repensar o lugar do artista. Neste contexto surge o projecto de um livro de artista no qual se tenta dar resposta a algumas das questões levantadas. ABSTRACT: In the present work the author tries to bring to the present day a number of important questions that remain unanswered, primarily raised forty years ago by the Conceptual Art movement. In the process some reasons are given to explain that through a brief analysis of the evolution of paradigm - Modernism, Post Modernism and what has happened till the present day. In a time when art can assume all forms, it makes sense to ask ourselves not so much about the meaning of art but its role in the core of its interactions with society and especially in what concerns what the driven principles of the contemporary artist program should be. Contemporary practices should be self conscious, self critical and dealing with questions raised by ontology and phenomenology. The white cube is the almighty arena where everything about contemporary art is decided. The artist’s role is diminished gradually to a point where his opinion no longer counts. In post production, the work of art is an orphan, struggling against the white walls, in a kind of silence broken only by the speech of curators or dealers – mediators in a process where the translation process is always impregnated with a tendency that sometimes goes as far as co-authorship. In the meantime the artist is settled in the limelight of fame, seduced by wealth, presented as a pop star or just forced to accept cultural confinement rules. At this point he is no longer there, as his presence has been metamorphosed into a ghostly figure. Then the art world is allowed to chew and digest the art work as a condition to extract from it all of its initial charge and thus being able to present it to the world as an innocuous version. In this condition the work is ripped off its time and space and converted into just another tradable commodity that, as any other commodity, is submitted to fashion rules with a perishable expiration date. In this context, shaped by a discrete but powerful global mainstream, what should the role of the contemporary artist be? This paper constitutes an attempt to suggest the re-establishment of the status of the artist through the legacy of the Conceptual Art movement. The author believes that the questions presented by that particular group of artists still remain widely unanswered and constitute a solid ground for a serious theoretical program for upcoming artists. Since nowadays it is broadly accepted that contemporary art existence is no longer bounded to its commodity status, at this moment – one decade after the beginning of the XXI century – the author’s question is slightly different: is the world ready for artist-consultants? In this light, the urgency of rethinking the place of art in social context becomes less important than the urgency of re-thinking the role of the artist as an active part in that same society. In this context the author presents a project of an “artist book” in which he tries to answer some questions raised along the process.

Abstract
The aim of this essay is to establish whether or not the word foxy can serve to illustrate gender differences and gender stereotypes in English. The analysis is conducted by using one American English corpus and one British English corpus in order to make a comparison of the two English varieties. Apart from the comparative study, foxy is examined and categorized according to gender and a number of features to help answering the research questions which are:
• What difference in meaning, if any, does the word foxy carry when used for males, females and inanimate things?
• Can the word foxy serve to illustrate gender stereotypes in English?
• Are there any differences regarding how foxy is used in American English compared to British English?
Throughout the essay previous studies are presented, terms and tools that have been used are defined and argued for. One of the conclusions drawn in this study is that there is a significant difference in meaning when foxy is used in American English compared to British English. There are, however, also differences concerning the use of foxy when referring to males, females and inanimate things.

Esta pesquisa refere-se a um estudo sobre a atual produção arquitetônica habitacional de cunho social na cidade de Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. Será analisado o impacto gerado no entorno de empreendimentos de habitação de interesse social do Programa Minha Casa, Minha Vida quanto às demandas por infraestrutura urbana, serviços públicos e privados e comércio local. Para tanto, foram pesquisados os conjuntos habitacionais construídos na cidade entre 2009 e 2014, em especial os empreendimentos Parque das Águas, Nova Germânia, Parque das Águas II e Residencial Vitória, localizados no entorno do Bairro Monte Castelo. Analisar o impacto que tais os empreendimentos causam em seu entorno justifica-se pela maneira como esses conjuntos estão sendo implantados nos municípios brasileiros: distantes dos centros urbanos, em grande quantidade, marcados pela repetição de casas ou edifícios, sem considerar as especificidades locais e as necessidades de seus usuários. A análise permitirá compreender os resultados concretos que a implantação de tais conjuntos habitacionais trouxe para o seu entorno imediato, em Juiz de Fora. O trabalho fundamentou-se em pesquisa bibliográfica, pesquisa documental e pesquisa de campo. A coleta de dados compreendeu levantamento fotográfico nos conjuntos habitacionais e no Bairro Monte Castelo, levantamento documental de dados secundários no acervo da memória na Biblioteca Municipal Murilo Mendes, entrevistas semiestruturada com órgãos públicos e privados envolvidos no processo de implantação dos conjuntos habitacionais, instituições, moradores e comerciantes do Bairro Monte Castelo. Para análise foi aplicada a técnica SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats). Durante esta pesquisa foi possível constatar que os impactos positivos na infraestrutura urbana foram maiores que os impactos negativos. Muito dos impactos positivos se devem ao fato de que o Bairro Monte Castelo margeia a região central da cidade, portanto, não está tão distante quanto os outros bairros que foram implantados os empreendimentos, e possuir infraestrutura urbana instalada, consolidada antes mesmo da construção das Habitações de Interesse Social. Houve a reestruturação e extensão das redes de esgoto, de água, de energia e de captação de águas pulviais, bem como a pavimentação e sinalização de 30 novas ruas no bairro. Já alguns serviços públicos sofreram maiores impactos negativos com a chegada de novos moradores ao bairro, sendo o caso da segurança, das escolas e da creche comunitária. Houve um aumento do índice de criminalidade no bairro, as escolas não conseguiram atender toda a demanda e houve saturação dos serviços ofertados pela creche. Em contrapartida, o comércio local se beneficiou com essa chegada. O faturamento dos estabelecimentos comerciais aumentou entre nove e 50%. Novos produtos e serviços foram ofertados beneficiando a todos os residentes do Bairro Monte Castelo. De certo modo, nota-se a importância do papel do poder público nos impactos positivos e negativos da implantação do Programa nos municípios brasileiros. É fundamental o envolvimento das prefeituras municipais na escolha da localização dos empreendimentos de cunho social, sendo necessário realizar um estudo de viabilidade para a implantação de grandes empreendimentos, considerando seu impacto na infraestrutura urbana e nos serviços realizados no município por instituições públicas e privadas. Por fim, ressalta-se que a análise empreendida neste trabalho pode ser estendida a outros municípios brasileiros, uma vez que há grande similaridade no que tange à cobertura de infraestrutura, ao serviço e ao comércio nas áreas urbanas.
This research refers to a study about the current housing architectural production of a social nature in the Juiz de Fora city, Minas Gerais. It will analyse the impact generated in the vicinity of social housing projects "Minha Casa, Minha Vida" Program, as to the demands for infrastructure, services and trade. For that, we researched the housing built between the years 2009 and 2014, especially Parque das Águas, Nova Germânia, Parque das Águas II and Residencial Vitória developments, located around the Monte Castelo neighbourhood. Analysing the impact of such enterprise cause in their surroundings is justified by the way that these housing are being implemented in Brazilian cities: far from the urban centres, in large amount, marked by the repetition of houses and buildings without considering the local conditions and their users needs. The analyse will allow comprehend the factual results that the housing brought to theirs own immediate surroundings.To perform this research goals and solve the presented problem, the proposed working methods were the bibliographic research, documentary research and the field research to collect data that is based on semi structured interviews and it was applied the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) technique to analyse the content. During this research it was possible to perceive the positive impacts in the urban infrastructure were higher than the negative ones. There was a restructuring and extension of sewer networks, water and energy and the capture of pulviais water as well as paving and signalling of 30 new streets in the neighbourhood. Yet some public services suffered higher negative impacts with the arrival of new residents to the neighbourhood, for instance the security, schools and public daycare. There was an increase of criminality level in the neighbourhood, the schools were not able to attend the hole demand and the services offered by the daycare were saturated. On the other hand, the local commerce was benefited with this arrival. The commerces turnover were increased between 9 and 50%. New products and services were offered bringing benefits to all residents of Monte Castelo neighbourhood. In a sense, it is noticed the role of public power in the positive and negative impacts of the program implementation in the Brazilian cities. It is fundamental the involvement of city hall in choosing the location of social nature projects, being necessary conduct feasibility studies to implement big projects considering their impact in urban infrastructure and in the performed services in the cities by public and private institutions. Finally, it is emphasized that the analysis undertaken in this work can be extended to other municipalities in Brazil, since there is a great similarity in relation to infrastructure coverage, service and commerce in the urban areas.

This research aims to analyze the application to register the German bread and Deutsches Fest as immaterial cultural assets belonging to Juiz de Fora city as representative elements of immigrants' culture and tradition, those who took part of the history of the city. The German Party or Deutsches Fest is currently one of the most important events in the cultural and tourist calendar of Juiz de Fora, a city located in Zona da Mata, state of Minas Gerais. It takes place at a neighborhood called Borboleta and it was first held in 1969 by German descendants who have immigrated to the city during the mid-nineteenth century. The German Bread, which can be found in parties and in houses of the neighborhood, besides being the main tool to memory preservation built by these German descendants, it became a significant symbolic element, concerning preparation method of legitimate German food. Bread and Party were part of an identity built over the years to set up the group, allowing them to broaden their participation in local political and economic contexts.
Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo analisar os pedidos de registro do Pão Alemão e da Deutsches Fest como bens culturais de natureza imaterial de Juiz de Fora, sendo elementos representantes da cultura e da tradição dos imigrantes alemães que fazem parte da história da cidade. A Festa Alemã ou Deutsches Fest é, atualmente, um dos maiores eventos do calendário cultural e turístico de Juiz de Fora, cidade localizada na Zona da Mata do Estado de Minas Gerais. Realizada no bairro Borboleta, antiga Colônia Alemã, a festa foi criada em 1969, por descendentes dos alemães que imigraram para o município, em meados do século XIX. O Pão Alemão, encontrado nas festas e casas do bairro, além de ser o principal elo de preservação da memória construída por esses descendentes alemães, tornou-se importante elemento simbólico, enquanto modo de preparo da legítima culinária alemã. Pão e Festa fazem parte de uma tradição constituída, ao longo de anos, para afirmar a identidade do grupo, proporcionando-lhe ampliar sua participação nos âmbitos políticos e econômicos locais.

Resumo: Realizamos o estudo de um plasma duplo, constituído por elétrons e buracos fotoinjetados em um semicondutor polar de gap direto, quando submetida a ação contínua de um laser. Após um curto transitório, o sistema atinge um estado estacionário uniforme. Nessas condições analisamos o espectro de excitações elementares eletrônica e a estabilidade termodinâmica deste sistema longe do equilíbrio. Para o estudo dessas questões nesses sistemas fora do equilíbrio recorremos ao método do operador não estatístico de não equilíbrio na versão devida a D. N. Zubarev. O espectro das excitações elementares é caracterizado através do cálculo do espectro de espalhamento Raman: sua estrutura nos leva a verifica a presença de quatro tipos de excitações elementares eletrônicas, duas já esperadas (as excitações de quasi-partículas individuais e de plasma), porém duas novas na região de baixas freqüências, e com relação a dispersão linear, as quais identificaremos como oscilações de plasma acústico. A seguir, investigamos a estabilidade do estado estacionário homogêneo frente a formação de uma estrutura dissipativa especialmente ordenada a nível macroscópico. Mostramos que no caso do plasma duplo em semicondutor intrínseco não existe formação de ordem espacial. Porém é possível por em evidência uma interessante característica do material: em condições de alta degenerescência estatística a fase original no lado da transição de Mott, é modificada dando lugar a coexistência de duas fases em não-equilíbrio, com uma fração dos portadores constituindo o plasma metálico, e o restante condensados em um estado não-condutor. Finalmente, mostramos que no caso de semicondutores extrínseco, tipo n, também em condições de alta degenerescência, acontece de fato uma transição morfológica com formação de ondas estacionárias de carga de elétrons e de buracos, na forma de uma onda de polarização
Abstract: A double plasma, that of electrons and holes photoinjected in a direct gap polar semiconductor when under continuous laser illuminations is studied. After a short transient has elapsed the system is in a stationary and uniform thermodynamic state. In such conditions in analyze the spectrum of elementary electronic excitations and the thermodynamic stability of this far-from-equilibrium system. For that purpose we resort to the nonequilibrium statistical operator method in zubarev's approach. The spectrum of electronic elementary excitations is characterized performing a calculation of the Raman scattering spectra: The structure of the latter allows us to put into evidence the presence of four types of electronic elementary excitations, two already expected (the single quasi-particle excitations and plasmons), but two novels ones in the region of low frequencies and with a linear dispersion relation, which are identified as acoustic plasma oscillations. Next, we look for the instability of the homogeneous stationary state against the emergence of a spatially ordered dissipative structure at the macroscopic level. We are able to show that in the case of the double plasma in intrinsic semiconductor there is not formation of spatial ordering. However, it is possible to put into evidence a quite interesting characteristic of this material: under conditions of high static degeneracy the original phase on the metallic side of Mott transition must be replaced by the coexistence of two non-equilibrium phases, one with a fraction of the carriers in the intinerant conducting state of the plasma, and the rest in a condensed non-conducting phase. Finally, we show that in the case of extrinsic semiconductors, of the n-type, also in conditions of high statistical degeneracy, there follow a morphological transition with formation of steady-state charge density waves of electrons and of holes in the form of a polarization wave

Fenômenos de transporte constituem um dos grandes desafios teóricos da mecânica estatística fora do equilíbrio, uma vez que a compreensão dos mecanismos microscópicos que regem tais fenômenos não está completamente estabelecida. Conduzidos, portanto, pela motivação de melhor compreender esses mecanismos, propomos nesta tese o estudo dos fenômenos de transporte através de dois modelos microscópicos em dois contextos distintos: clássico e quântico. No contexto clássico, consideramos como modelo uma cadeia de osciladores harmônicos acoplados, sujeita a um potencial local (pinning) anarmônico quártico (conhecido como modelo phi4). A cadeia está em contato, através de suas extremidades, com dois reservatórios térmicos mantidos a temperaturas distintas, e sua dinâmica é dada por um sistema de equações de Langevin. Além disso, consideramos a inclusão de um ruído conservativo que inverte aleatoriamente o sentido da velocidade de cada partícula. Nesse sistema, estudamos dois fenômenos de transporte associados à condução de calor: a Lei de Fourier e a retificação térmica. Os resultados foram obtidos numericamente através da simulação do sistema usando-se métodos de dinâmica estocástica. A partir desses resultados pudemos concluir que, tanto a validade da Lei de Fourier, quanto a presença de uma retificação finita no limite termodinâmico, estão associadas à presença do ruído conservativo na dinâmica do sistema. No contexto quântico, utilizamos como modelo de trabalho uma cadeia de spins do tipo XX posta em contato, através de suas extremidades, com dois reservatórios mantidos a diferentes temperaturas e potenciais químicos. A interação com os reservatórios foi feita através de dissipadores de Lindblad presentes na equação mestra quântica que fornece a dinâmica do sistema. Esses dissipadores são acoplados aos modos normais do hamiltoniano do modelo de forma que, no equilíbrio, o sistema termaliza corretamente para o estado de Gibbs. Além de resultados numéricos, obtivemos através de um método perturbativo, expressões analíticas para os fluxos de energia e de partículas ao longo da cadeia, verificando que ambos possuem a estrutura da fórmula de Landauer. No regime em que o acoplamento com os reservatórios é fraco, verificamos ainda que as relações de reciprocidade de Onsager entre esses fluxos são satisfeitas.Transport phenomena are one of the great theoretical challenges of out-of-equilibrium statistical mechanics since the understanding of the microscopic mechanisms governing such phenomena is not yet fully established. To better understand these mechanisms, we propose in this thesis the study of transport phenomena through two microscopic models in two distinct contexts: classical and quantum ones. In the classical context, we considered as a working model a chain of coupled harmonic oscillators, subject to a quartic anharmonic pinning (known as the phi4 model). The chain is in contact, through its ends, with two thermal reservoirs kept at different temperatures, and its dynamics is given by a system of Langevin equations. In addition, we considered the inclusion of a conservative noise that randomly reverses the direction of the velocity of each particle. In this system, we studied two transport phenomena associated with heat conduction: the Fourier Law and the thermal rectification. The results were obtained numerically by simulating the system using stochastic dynamics methods. From these results we concluded that both the validity of the Fourier Law and the presence of a finite rectification in the thermodynamic limit are associated with the presence of the conservative noise in the system dynamics. In the quantum context, we used as a working model the XX spin chain that was put in contact, through its ends, with two reservoirs kept at different temperatures and chemical potentials. The interaction with the reservoirs was modeled through Lindblad dissipators included in the quantum master equation that describes the system dynamics. These dissipators are coupled to the normal modes of the model Hamiltonian so that, in equilibrium, the system thermalizes correctly to the Gibbs state. In addition to numerical results, we obtained through a perturbative method, analytical expressions for the energy and particle fluxes along the chain, verifying that both have the structure of the Landauer formula. In the regime where the coupling with the reservoirs is weak, we also verified that the Onsager reciprocal relations between these fluxes are satisfied.
