Abstract:
This thesis derives the theory of distributions, starting with test functions as a basis. Distributions and their derivatives will be analysed and exemplified. Schwartz functions are introduced, and the Fourier transform of Schwartz functions is analysed, creating the basis for Tempered distributions on which we also analyse the Fourier transform. Weak derivatives and Sobolev spaces are defined, and from the Fourier transform we define Sobolev spaces of non-integer order. The theory presented is applied to an initial value problem with a derivative of order one in time and an arbitrary differe

Abstract:
The displacement operator is related to the displaced parity operator through a two dimensional Fourier transform. Both operators are important operators in phase space and the trace of both with respect to the density operator gives the Wigner functions (displaced parity operator) and Weyl functions (displacement operator). The generalisation of the parity-displacement operator relationship considered here is called the bi-fractional displacement operator, O(α, β; θα, θβ). Additionally, the bi-fractional displacement operators lead to the novel concept of bi-fractional coherent states. The ge

Abstract:
This thesis aims to investigate the controllability and observability of the discrete fractional linear time-invariant state-space model. First, we will establish key concepts and properties which are the tools necessary for our task. In the third chapter, we will discuss the discrete state-space model and set up the criteria for these two properties. Then, in the fourth chapter, we will attempt to apply these criteria to the discrete fractional model. The general flow of our objectives is as follows: we start with the first-order linear difference equation, move on to the discrete system, the

<p> A two-dimensional electron system exposed to a strong perpendicular magnetic field at low temperatures (usually below one Kelvin) forms a new state of matter that exhibits the fractional quantum Hall effect. This phenomenon has been observed in graphene, a naturally occurring two-dimensional electron system. The theoretical understanding of the FQHE in graphene is complicated by the fact the electrons have valley and spin degrees of freedom. As a result, the different single-particle energy levels (Landau levels) of the electrons can mix with each other. This Landau level mixing is intrins
