This article presents an analysis of the main reference models of Product Development Process (PDP) and specificities of the telecommunications industry. The research instruments used to collect the data was semi-structured interviews, direct observation and document analysis in two companies, in order to map and analyze their PDP. It was noticed that there was similarity of the steps of the Case Studies PDP with the reference models, especially the model of [4]. The main differences were the feasibility analysis, the assessment by the customer of the preliminary product concepts, and the emphasis on commercial and operational development. It was also noted that the PDP of the companies had no strong influence of practices and business processes. Their PDP were more involved in the strategy area, infrastructure and with the product of eTOM framework.

Abstract:
Three new metal-organic framework materials [Mg3(LH)2(EtOH)2(H2O)]·(EtOH)4.5(H2O)0.25 (IMP-13Mg), [Co3(LH)2(EtOH)2(H2O)]·(EtOH)3 (IMP-13Co), and [Ca3(LH)2(EtOH)4]·(EtOH)6 (IMP-14) have been prepared from the treatment of silanetetrabenzoic acid (L-H4) with MgII, CoII, and CaII salts respectively. In all cases the silanetetrabenzoic acid has been triply deprotonated and the resultant carboxylate groups assemble with trinuclear metal-based nodes to give (3,6)-connected kgd-type two-dimensional layers. These layers are then extended into the third dimension by coordination of the metal nodes by carboxylic acid groups in adjacent layers. In the case of IMP-13Mg/Co, only alternate L-H connectors and metal nodes are involved in these interlayer interactions, leaving some acid groups free within the structure. However, in IMP-14 all L-H connectors and metal nodes participate in interlayer bonding.

Abstract:
This mini review summarizes recent advances in experimental thermodynamics of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Taking advantage of the development in mechanochemistry, near-room temperature solution calorimetry, and low-temperature heat capacity measurements, the energetic landscape, entropy trends, and Gibbs free energy evolutions of MOFs with true polymorphism [Zn(MeIm)2, Zn(EtIm)2, and Zn(CF3Im)2] as framework topology varies were thoroughly explored by integrated calorimetric and computational methodologies. In addition, the formation enthalpies of MOFs with ultrahigh porosity (MOF-177 and UMCM-1) and the simplest structure (metal formates) have been determined. The studies summarized below highlight the complex interplays among interrelated compositional, chemical, and topological (structural) factors in the determination of the thermodynamic parameters of MOFs.

Abstract:
The obligatory path towards a lean manufacturing organization requires assessment and monitoring. However, a lean assessment framework is not yet available for the engineer to order (ETO) scenario. This work explored ten lean ETO maturity principles—identified from the literature—that take insight from three formally defined sets (Toyota Way, lean construction, and lean product development principles). A practical assessment model was proposed based on the evaluation of ten lean ETO objective criteria (four with mathematical formulation) and was validated on a real industrial case. A problem-solving tool, including a new lean tool, called the Problem Focus Matrix (PFM), was also presented; this tool was aimed toward development of an integrated framework that would include the organization mission, management, and continuous improvement.

Three new iron(ii) molecular-framework materials incorporating the bridging ligand 4,4′-azopyridine (azpy) have been synthesized and structurally characterized: Fe2(azpy)4(NCS)4·(azpy) (A), Fe(azpy)(NCSe)2(EtOH)2·(azpy) (B), and Fe(azpy)2(NCSe)2·2(MeCN) (C). A and C consist of non-interpenetrating (4,4) grids of iron(ii) centres bridged by azpy ligands with non-coordinating azpy ligands or acetonitrile molecules occupying the spaces within and between the layers. For B, hydrogen-bonding interactions between coordinated ethanol molecules and non-coordinated azpy ligands link linear Fe–azpy chains to give a two-dimensional framework.

Abstract:
The solvothermal synthesis of four two-dimensional metal-organic frameworks containing linear dicarboxylic acids as ligands for ZnII centres is described. Zn(BDC)(DMF) [(1) where BDC = benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid; DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide] adopts a common paddlewheel motif leading to a 44 grid network, whereas Zn3(BDC)3(EtOH)2 (2), Zn3(BDC)3(H2O)2·4DMF (3) and Zn3(BPDC)3(DMF)2·4DMF (4) each form networks with the relatively uncommon 36 topology based upon Zn3(O2CR)6 secondary building units. All contain coordinated solvent molecules, namely DMF [(1) and (4)], ethanol (2) or H2O (3). Comparison of structures (2) and (3) illustrates a clay-like flexibility in interplanar spacing which sheds light on the ability of the Zn3(BDC)3 framework to undergo desolvation and uptake of small solvent and gas molecules.

Abstract:
The accuracy of a complementary relationship (CR) evapotranspiration (ET) model depends on how to parameterize the relationship between apparent potential ET and actual ET as the land surface changes from wet to dry. Yet, the validity of its inherent symmetric assumption of the original CR framework, i.e., the B value equal to one, is controversial. In this study, we conduct a comparative study between a linear, symmetric version (B = 1) and a nonlinear, asymmetric version (B is not necessarily equal to 1) of the advection-aridity (AA) CR model in a large ephemeral lake, which experiences dramatic changes in surface/atmosphere humidity. The results show that B was typically 1.1 ± 1.4 when ET ≤ ETPT ≤ ETPM, where ETPM and ETPT are estimated using the Penman (PM) and Priestley–Taylor (PT) equations, respectively; the AA model performed reasonably well in this case. However, the value of B can be negative and deviate from 1 significantly if the inequality ET ≤ ETPT ≤ ETPM is violated, which is quite common in humid environments. Because the actual ET can be negatively (B > 0) or positively (B < 0) related to the evaporative demand of the air, the nonlinear AA model generally performs better than the AA model if ET ≤ ETPM is satisfied. Although B is not significantly correlated with the atmospheric relative humidity (RH), both models, especially the nonlinear AA model, resulted in negative biases when ET > ETPM, which generally occur at high RH conditions. Both the linear and the nonlinear AA models performed better under higher water level conditions, however, our study highlights the need for higher-order (≥3) polynomial functions when CR models are applied in humid environments.

Abstract:
Targeting the general (4,4)-grid structural motif, we have prepared seven new coordination polymers in the general family [Fe(NCX)2(L)2]·(guest) (L = bis-pyridyl-type bridging ligands; X = S, Se) as an extension of the well-established spin crossover framework (SCOF) family. In all cases, the (4,4)-grid topology is formed by the bridging of octahedral iron(ii) sites in the equatorial plane by bis-pyridyl ligands of varying length, flexibility, and intermolecular interaction capacity. In particular, the six ligands n-(4-pyridyl)-isonicotinamide (pin), trans-1,2-bis(4′-pyridyl)ethane (tvp), 1,2-dibromo-1,2-bis(4′-pyridyl)ethane (dbbpe), bis(4-pyridyl)-1,2,4,5-tetrazine (bptz), 4,4′-bis(pyridyl)acetylene (bpac), and 1,4-bis(4-pyridylethynyl)benzene (bpeben) have been utilised. The seven new materials [Fe(NCS)2(pin)2]·2(MeCN) (pin-S), [Fe(tvp)2(NCS)2]·1/2(tvp)·(CH3CH2OH) (tvp-S), [Fe(dbbpe)2(NCS)2]·6(CH3CN) (dbbpe-S), [Fe(NCS)2(bptz)2]·2(CHCl3)·6(EtOH) (bptz-S), [Fe(NCSe)2(bptz)2]·4(CHCl3)·(EtOH)·(H2O) (bptz-Se), [Fe(NCS)2(bpac)2]·2(PrOH) (bpac-S), and [Fe(NCS)2(bpeben)2]·2(CHCl3) (bpeben-S) all form (4,4)-grids of varying size that are arranged in a parallel stacked topology. Despite being in the [FeN6] coordination environment known to be conducive to spin crossover, these materials all remain high-spin with thermal variation. These results are discussed in context with the large family of SCOFs that show varied spin crossover behaviours.

Abstract:
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to empirically investigate an effective project management practice focusing on planning and control. By doing so, it contributes to the debate on rethinking traditional project management practices and accentuates the need for adjustments based on the project context.Design/methodology/approachThis paper extends the project management theory by proposing a lean project planning (LPP) and control framework, developed and tested in collaboration with ten engineer-to-order (ETO) companies. By following a design science research approach, elements from lean thinking and current project planning and control practices are combined into a maturity model (MM).FindingsETO project characteristics are identified, and their implications for planning and control are discussed. Nine enablers that transform current project planning and control approaches into a lean approach are defined, allowing the analysis of the underlying complexity of planning and controlling ETO projects and thus facilitating the determination of the actions required to improve project performance.Research limitations/implicationsOnce fully embedded in an organization, the presented MM can provide a safe framework for self-criticism and can be used to conduct self-assessments without the need for an external facilitator. Thus, this paper is of particular interest to practicing project managers who aim to implement LPP and control.Originality/valueTo the authors’ best knowledge, this paper is the first to empirically examine the journey toward LPP and control from a MM perspective. This research attempts to describe the enablers of LPP and control.

Abstract Physical and instinctive needs are natural and neutral, can not in itself be said that one's needs are higher than the other. It is precisely the way in which people manage and satisfy those needs that can be given a praiseworthy or despicable title. In the view of Islam, if these needs are met with the actions carried out according to Islamic guidance, then it will be a commendable act. Conversely, if these needs are met with acts that violate the guidance of Islam then he becomes a disgraceful act. Spiritual intelligence associated with the problem of meaning, value, spiritual intelligence is able to guide humans to find meaning and can also guide people in reaching his ideals. Spiritual intelligence goes beyond the ability to intelligently think, feel, act and behave in situational contexts or given frameworks. Spiritual intelligence enables humans to be wise in reflecting on the situation to find themselves more meaningful so as to be able to transform something more precious. With the formation of spirituality culture in the workplace, it is expected to form employees who are happy, know and able to meet the purpose of life. Such employees generally have a balanced life between work and person, between duty and service. In general, they also have higher performance. The results of a large consulting firm, the application of a spiritual work environment increase productivity and reduce turn over. Other studies show that employees of high spiritual intelligence and supported by a work environment that is also spiritual, positively become more creative, have high job satisfaction, are able to work well in teams, and have a high commitment to the organization. Four novel coordination polymers (CPs) assembled with [2,2′-bifuran]-5,5′-dicarboxylic acid (H2L) and metal ions ZnII, CdIIor CoIIhave been successfully synthesized. Their molecular structures have been determined to be Zn(L)(H2O)2(1), [Zn(L)(DMF)]2(2), [Cd(L)(EtOH)(DMF)2]2(3) and Co(L)(H2O)4·(H2O)2(4) by crystallographic analysis. It is found that (2) exhibits a two-dimensional infinite framework, whereas the others exhibit a one-dimensional framework. Both (2) and (3) exhibit ligand-based emission which is blue-shifted compared with the emission from the H2Lligand. Time-resolved spectroscopic measurement reveals that the complexes exhibit a similar lifetime with that of the ligand, which confirms that the emission of the complexes originates from the ligand.

Abstract:
The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001 requires that public schools adopt research-supported programs and practices, with a strong recommendation for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) as the “gold standard” for scientific rigor in empirical research. Within that policy framework, this paper compares the relative utility of federally-recommended RCT versus the demonstrated extended term mixed-method (ETMM) designs as options for monitoring effects of novel programs in real-time field settings. Guided by the program’s theory of action, a year-long, two-phase study was conducted to monitor the context, processes and early outcomes of an after-school supplemental program in a New York elementary school. In both phases, the design combined a matched-groups, quasi-experiment with qualitative classroom observations and descriptive surveys. Early findings showed some positive, albeit “gross” program effects. Although findings are tentative, the ETMM approach enhanced interpretations by shedding light on relevant environmental variables, causes for program instabilities and sample attrition, and factors affecting treatment fidelity and scaling-up of the program beyond the pilot year.

Abstract:
Australia is in the process of transitioning from the project build phase to the project operating phase in the LNG lifecycle. By 2020, the number of operating LNG trains will grow from nine to 21, and it is expected Australia will challenge to be the world’s largest exporter of LNG. LNG sales and marketing activity is expected to increase dramatically across the Asia-Pacific region. But what does this change mean for LNG players in the Asia-Pacific region? And what needs to be done to prepare for it? There is presently very little information available on how prepared LNG companies in the Asia-Pacific region are to undergo this transition. Equally, the maturity of the risk management and trading functions of the more established companies in the sector, and how much work less-experienced companies need to do to meet global standards, has been relatively opaque. To bridge this information gap, Deloitte conducted a targeted global survey of LNG participants, particularly focusing on their energy trading risk management (ETRM) maturity. Deloitte also sought the industry’s views on the changing market, and challenges and opportunities for the future. The results show the following: There is a significant divide between established global integrated multi-energy commodity companies and regional Asia-Pacific LNG companies in terms of their ETRM maturity. Organisations with existing marketing and trading functions covering commodities with more mature markets have been able to leverage past lessons and existing ETRM capability across their portfolios. For other companies without this experience in mature markets, the evolving developments and liquidity of global LNG markets presents both significant threat and opportunity. The transition in LNG markets, and the increase in sales and marketing activity, will place high demands on existing and new operations—and their owners—to establish and mature their marketing and trading functions. An ETRM framework is a crucial part of meeting these demands. In this paper the authors examine the background to this transition, what the essential components of an ETRM are, and how far away Asia-Pacific LNG players are from being prepared for transition and achieving maturity in this area.

Abstract:
As the pressure is increasing to compete with others to get customer orders in the global market, companies are struggling to build up competitive advantages that are hard to imitate. The trend shows more and more customers demand faster product delivery in the last decade. The Quick Response Manufacturing (QRM) approach provides significant benefits to engineer-to-order (ETO) companies through its focus on lead time reduction. A precision parts manufacturer was selected as case study to what extent QRM is a suitable solution to improve the delivery performance. This paper describes the implementation of the QRM concepts and illustrates how they were deciphered into practices that streamline the process across the organization. The study measures the effectiveness of the QRM framework through its ability to achieve better performance through concurrently reducing manufacturing critical-path time, lowering capacity utilization level and increasing throughput.

Abstract:
AbstractThe ever-increasing competitiveness, due to the market globalization, has forced the industries to modify their design and production strategies. A key point is the development of products that fulfil the individual customer needs as close as possible. ETO companies manufacture new products according to the customer technical requirements given in the request for proposal.Computational Design Synthesis is the research area focused on activities to automate the design phase in the production of products such ETO structures. In this context, Knowledge Based Engineering applications are usually applied to automate design routines and to implement a multidisciplinary product design. Knowledge should be elicited and formalized, so that it can allow the past cases retrieval and the connection between customer specifications and the product configuration tasks. This paper proposes an approach for the rapid definition of the product structure related to a ETO product, including the early cost evaluation in configurations. The research scope aims at defining a framework to support the knowledge repository, which is the Knowledge Based used to design new products and estimate their costs.

Abstract:
A family of rare structurally different homometal multinuclear CuII bis(salamo)-based complexes, [Cu4(L)2(MeOH)2](ClO4)2·2MeOH (1), [Cu4(L)2(EtOH)2](NO3)2·2EtOH (2) and [Cu2(HL)(EtOH)Br2]·CHCl3 (3), has been successfully synthesized by the reactions of cupric salts with a bis(salamo)-based multidentate chelate ligand (H3 L). The salamo-based ligand [R-CH=N—O—(CH2) n —O—N=CH—R] is a new type of salen-based analog. Complexes (1) and (2) are isostructural structures, and crystallize in monoclinic space group P21/n with centrosymmetric spiral structures, where the main structures contain two fully deprotonated ligand (L)3− units, a charged tetranuclear CuII folding center and two coordinated solvent molecules. Complex (3) crystallizes in monoclinic space group Cc and consists of two CuII cations, one incompletely deprotonated ligand (HL)2− unit and one coordinated ethanol molecule, and forms a novel homo-binuclear CuII complex structure due to Br− counter anions. Complexes (1)–(3) have zero-dimensional cluster-based structures and are further assembled into three-dimensional frameworks via intermolecular interactions. Because of the different solvents and counter anions which have a significant influence on the structures of complexes (1)–(3), the interactions were quantitatively evaluated by Hirshfeld surfaces analyses. Complexes (1)–(3) have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra, UV–vis spectra and X-ray crystallography analyses. In addition, fluorescence properties are evaluated and DFT calculations are performed.

Abstract:
Three different metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), specifically Mn2 (dobdc)(DMF)4 ( H2 dobdc=[2,5-dihydroxyterephthalic acid]; compound (1), Mn5 ( btac )4(μ3- OH )2( EtOH )2⋅ DMF⋅3EtOH⋅3H2O ( H2 btac=[benzotriaole-5-carboxylicacid]; compound (2), and Mn3 (2,6-ndc)3⋅4DMF ( H 2ndc=[2,6-naphthalenedicarbo-xylic acid]; compound (3), have been synthesized, the channels of which are lined with coordinatively unsaturated Mn II centers. The adsorption of O2 in these MOFs has been measured using a gravimetric method at different temperatures (-78°C, -5°C, and 25°C) at a pressure of 1 bar. Gas adsorption isotherms of compounds 1 and 2 at 298 K indicated that they bind O2 by chemisorption at low pressure, with capacities of 1.2 wt.% and 2.14 wt.%, respectively, for the first cycle, with reversible oxygen binding for compound 1 and partially irreversible oxidation for compound 2. However, compound 3 binds O2 by physisorption, with a capacity of just 0.21 wt.%. This difference between the three compounds stems from the different coordination environments of the respective Mn II centers, which give rise to differences in electron density. The results suggest that there must be an optimal electron density around the exposed Mn II center for partial charge transfer from this center to the bound O2 molecule; if the electron density is too high or too low, reversible chemisorption of O2 is not favored.

Abstract:
Herein, we present a series of supramolecular self-associating amphiphilic (SSA) salts and establish the potential for these molecular constructs to act as next-generation solution-state molecular delivery vehicles. We characterise the self-association of these SSAs, both alone and when co-formulated with a variety of drug(like) competitive guest species. Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies enable the observation of hydrogen-bonded self-association events in the solid state, whilst high resolution mass spectrometry confirms the presence of anionic SSA dimers in the gas-phase. These same anionic SSA dimeric species are also identified within a competitive organic solvent environment (DMSO-d6/0.5% H2O). However, extended self-associated aggregates are observed to form under aqueous conditions (H2O/5.0% EtOH) in both the absence and presence of these competitive guest species. Finally, through the completion of these studies, we present a framework to support others in the characterisation of such systems.

Abstract:
Three-dimensional (3D) framework materials containing the ligands 2,4,6-tris(4′-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine (4-tpt) and 2,4,6-tris(3′-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine (3-tpt) have been prepared and their structure and magnetic properties investigated. The [MII(NCS)2(py)4] (MII = Fe, Co, py = 3-tpt, and 4-tpt) coordination environments in these materials have been targeted in an effort to prepare high-dimensional coordination polymers which contain spin crossover (SCO) centres. Using FeII, two isotopological cubic 3D materials [Fe(NCS)2(4-tpt)4/3]·n(BzOH,ac) (1a(Bz,ac)) and [Fe(NCS)2(3-tpt)4/3]·n(BzOH,ac) (1b(Bz,ac)) were formed. However, with CoII a different 3D framework topology results, [Co(NCS)2(3-tpt)4/3]·(BzOH,ac) (2(Bz,ac)). Further synthetic variation leads to the isostructural 3D materials trans-[MII(NCS)2(4-tpt)4/3]cis-[MII(NCS)2(4-tpt)2]·n(tce, EtOH) (Fe: 3a(Tce,Et) and Co: 3b(Tce,Et)) which form 3D networks outside Wellsian classification – and for which uniquely both two- and three-connecting modes of 4-tpt are present in the one complex. Despite having the metal coordination environments for which SCO has previously been observed, magnetic susceptibilities of this family of materials reveal a high spin nature.

Abstract:
AbstractGlaciers are widely recognized as key indicators of climate change, and their meltwater plays an important role in hydropower production in Norway. Since the last glacier inventory was compiled in northern Norway in the 1970s, marked fluctuations in glacier length and mass balance have been reported for individual glaciers, and the current overall glacier state is thus not well known. Within the framework of the Global Land Ice Measurements from Space (GLIMS) initiative, we have created a new inventory for 489 glaciers in the Svartisen region, northern Norway, using a Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) satellite scene from 7 September 1999 and automated multispectral glacier mapping (thresholded band ratios). In addition, visual inspection and correction of the generated glacier outlines has been applied. Adverse snow conditions and uncertain drainage divides made glacier mapping challenging in some regions of the study site. Glacier outlines from 1968, as digitized from a topographic map, were used for a quantitative change assessment for a selection of 300 glaciers. The overall area change of this sample from 1968 to 1999 was close to zero, but with a strongly increasing scatter towards smaller glaciers, large area gains (>50%) for small glaciers (<1 km2), and an unexpected stronger relative area loss towards the wetter coast. The overall size changes are small (<1%) for the three largest ice masses in the study region (Vestisen, Østisen and Blåmannsisen).

Abstract:
Two coordination polymers (CPs), with chemical formulas {[Ni2(bpp)2(BT)(H2O)6] 1.5(EtOH) 1.5H2O}n (1) and [Zn(bpp)(BT)0.5]·5H2O (2) (bpp = 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane, and BT4− = tetraanion of 1,2,4,5-Benzenetetracarboxylic acid), have been synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. In compound 1, the coordination environments of two crystallographically independent Ni(II) ions are both distorted octahedral bonded to two nitrogen donors from two bpp ligands and four oxygen donors from one BT4- ligand and three water molecules. Both bpp and BT4− act as bridging ligands with bis-monodentate and 1,4-bis-monodentate coordination modes, respectively, connecting the Ni(II) ions to form a 2D layered metal-organic framework (MOF). Adjacent 2D layers are then arranged orderly in an ABAB manner to complete their 3D supramolecular architecture. In 2, the coordination environment of Zn(II) ion is distorted tetrahedral bonded to two nitrogen donors from two bpp ligands and two oxygen donors from two BT4− ligands. Both bpp and BT4- act as bridging ligands with bis-monodentate and 1,2,4,5-tetrakis-monodentate coordination modes, respectively, connecting the Zn(II) ions to form a 3D MOF. The reversible water de-/adsorption behavior of 1 between dehydrated and rehydrated forms has been verified by cyclic Thermogravimetric (TG) analyses through de-/rehydration processes. Compound 1 also exhibits significant water vapor hysteresis isotherms.

Abstract:
Background: Compounds containing furo[3,2-b]pyridine framework have shown interesting pharmacological properties, including anticancer activities. Though these compounds are generally synthesized via the heteroannulation processes involving acetylenic derivatives, some of them are complex. Objective: The study aimed to explore a series of 2-substituted furo[3,2-b]pyridines for their cytotoxic properties against cancer cell lines in vitro. Methods: We developed a convenient synthesis of 2-substituted furo[3,2-b]pyridines via sequential (i) C-C coupling followed by (ii) C-O bond-forming reactions in a single pot. The reactions were performed under ultrasound irradiation in the presence of Pd/C as an inexpensive, stable and widely used catalyst. A range of 2- substituted furo[3,2-b]pyridines were synthesized via coupling of 3-chloro-2-hydroxy pyridine with terminal alkynes in the presence of 10% Pd/C-CuI-PPh3-Et3N in EtOH. The in vitro evaluation of all these compounds was carried out against MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cell lines and subsequently against SIRT1. Results: The furo[3,2-b]pyridine derivative 3b showed encouraging growth inhibition of both MDAMB-231 and MCF-7 cell lines and inhibition of SIRT1. The compound 3b also showed apoptosis-inducing potential when tested against MCF-7 cells. Conclusion: The Pd/C-Cu catalysis under ultrasound accomplished a one-pot and direct access to 2-substituted furo[3,2-b]pyridine derivatives, some of which showed anticancer properties.

Abstract:
A series monolithic silica aerogels modified by amino-substituted organic groups were synthesized by sol-gel processing of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) mixtures, followed by drying of the wet gels with supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO2). The molar ratios of EtOH/TEOS and DMF/ (TEOS+APTES) were fixed at 5 and 0.4, respectively, and APTES/TEOS ratio was varied between 1:9 and 3:7. HCl was added to obtain a narrow pore distribution, and the ratio of HCl/ (TEOS+APTES) was varied between 0 and 0.004. When APTES/TEOS ratio was kept at constant, gelling of the precursor mixtures was accelerated with an increasing ratio of HCl/ (TEOS+APTES). The physical properties of the aerogels have been investigated in detail by the bulk density, porosity, nitrogen sorption measurements and scanning electron microscopic (SEM). The results showed that adding HCl did increase the specific surface areas of the aerogels and make the aerogels have narrow pore distributions, but also resulted in some increase in bulk densities and decrease in porosities. The bulk density of the aerogels was 0.13-0.32 g/cm3, the corresponding porosity between 80% and 92%. Microscopically, the framework of the functional aerogels consists of spherical secondary nano-particles, which stack into grape-like aggregate and interconnect in different directions into a network. The specific surface area of the aerogels were in the range of 362-1044 m2/g, and uniform pore distribution aerogels were obtained when the molar ratio of APTES/ (TEOS+APTES)/HCl at 1/10/0.002 and 1/10/0.004.

Abstract The philosophical aspects of art (aesthetics) explored in this study refer to the popular Banjar songs (with a sample of 14 song titles). Therefore, the vision of discussing the aesthetics of the popular Banjar song is appropriate to expose, extract, and uplift its ontological, epistemological and axiological values. This study is a qualitative-descriptive type of research with aesthetic study approach (wetland environmental aesthetics), with the object of popular Banjar songs. From this design, the data analysis method uses two approaches, namely: music analysis and art philosophy analysis (philosophical aesthetics). The results of this study found that the aesthetic concept of the popular Banjar song refers to the following three philosophical aspects. First, the metaphysical value or substance of the popular Banjar song which lies in its two ontological realities, namely musical expressions and song lyrics in the Banjar language as a representation of Banjar culture. Second, the value of knowledge and art truth (aesthetic epistemology) of the popular Banjar song tends to be in the framework of the philosophy of empiricism, namely the knowledge and truth of art that prioritizes the existential experience of the subject. Third, the social value of the popular Banjar song that stands out is the discourse on work ethic which is based on the value of religiosity, while the prominent political value (social institution) is family education. Abstract:
Tan lesions with dark margins containing concentric rings of black pycnidia were observed on leaves and pods of hairy tare (Vicia hirsuta L.) growing near Ateni, GA (41°54.631′N, 44°05.586′E, elev. 730 m) on 1 July 2004. Lesions were reminiscent of those induced by Ascochyta rabiei (Pass.) Labrousse on chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.). At the time of collection, necrotic lesions were observed on the stems, leaflets, and pods of several plants. The fungus was isolated by surface-disinfecting small pieces of infected tissue in 95% EtOH for 10 s, 1% NaOCl for 1 min, and then deionized H20 for 1 min. Tissue pieces were placed on 3% water agar (WA) for 24 h under fluorescent lights with a 12-h photoperiod to induce sporulation. Single-conidial isolations were made by streaking cirrhi on 3% WA and picking germinated single conidia. After 14 days of growth, the isolated fungus had colony morphology similar to that of A. rabiei on V8 juice agar. A conidial suspension of the fungus (1 × 105 conidia/ml) was spray-inoculated onto 2-week-old plants including PI lines 628303, 628304, 420171, and 422499 of V. hirsuta and C. arietinum cv. Burpee. Plants were obtained from the USDA Western Region Plant Introduction Station, Pullman, WA, and 20 replicate plants of each genotype were inoculated. Inoculated plants were covered with a plastic cup to maintain high humidity and incubated in a growth chamber for 48 h at 18°C. Following removal of the cups, characteristic Ascochyta blight lesions were apparent 14 days after inoculation on both plant species. DNA was extracted from the isolate and 610 bp of the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate-dehydrogenase gene (G3PD), 364 bp of the chitin synthase 1 gene, and 330 bp of the translation elongation factor 1-alpha gene were amplified with gpd-1 and gpd-2 primers (1), CHS-79 and CHS-354 primers (2), and EF1-728F and EF1-986R primers (2), respectively. Amplicons were direct sequenced on both strands and a BLAST search of the NCBI nucleotide database with consensus G3PD, CHS, and EF sequences revealed the chickpea pathogen Didymella rabiei (anamorph Ascochyta rabiei) accessions DQ383958, DQ386480, and DQ386488 as the closest matches in the databases with 95, 95, and 88% sequence similarity, respectively. These results, coupled with the morphological identification and the inoculation results, confirm the identity of the fungus as Ascochyta sp. Further research needs to be performed to determine if this represents a new species of Ascochyta. The identification of this fungus is part of a larger project to develop a phylogeny for Ascochyta spp. infecting cultivated legumes and their wild relatives that will provide a framework for the study of the evolution of host specificity and speciation of plant-pathogenic fungi. This is the second report of an Ascochyta species on V. hirsuta, and to our knowledge, the first report of Ascochyta blight of this host in the Republic of Georgia. References: (1) M. L. As a result, these various studies have failed to fit batik Sidoarjo into its full context, instead it has become a kind of narrative standardization on its characteristics and history. This study aims to criticize the historical construction that has been popular in relation to the basic understanding of batik Sidoarjo and to explain the position of batik Sidoarjo in the cultural framework of its people. This article is the author's attempt to provide an analysis or explanation that is different from the historical narrative of batik Sidoarjo which is commonly used in various discussions. This research is classified as a qualitative research, using the historical method which consists of four stages, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. This research uses historical and sociological approaches to collect, select, and critically examine historical sources of Sidoarjo batik, resulting in historical facts. The results showed that the historicity of batik Sidoarjo refers to the batik activities in the areas of Kedungcangkring, Jetis, Sekardangan, Gajah Mada St. (Peranakans), and Tulangan, all of which have a direct relationship with both Peranakans nor indigenous. Batik Sidoarjo is not framed by traditional rituals, nor is it under the control and domination of the royal aristocracy. Its growth is based on the factor of the economic needs of the supporting community, which tends to be a trading commodity. The presence of other groups of people or nations such as Peranakan Chinese, Indo-European, Dutch, Arabic contributed to the birth of Sidoarjo batik. Keywords: batik, Sidoarjo, historical criticism. Full text
Abstract:
Background: Ischemic stroke induces metabolic disarray where the entire framework of cellular metabolism is altered. A central regulatory site, Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex (PDHC) sits at the cross-roads of two fundamental metabolic systems: the citric acid cycle and glycolysis. Down regulation of PDHC has been proposed to explain impaired brain catabolism after ischemic injury. In this study, we combined ethanol and normobaric oxygen (NBO) to develop a powerful non-drug treatment to modulate PDHC and its regulatory proteins, namely PDPhosphatase and PDKinase, leading to improved metabolism and reduced oxidative damage. Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to transient (4h) or permanent (24h) middle cerebral artery occlusion followed by 24 hours reperfusion or no reperfusion. Rats received IP injections of saline, two doses of Ethanol (EtOH, 1.5 at onset of reperfusion followed by 1.0 g/kg in 2 hours) for transient stroke or EtOH+95%NBO (for 6 hours) for permanent stroke. Infract volume and the protein levels of PDHC, PDK, and PDP were all assessed. Oxidative metabolism was determined by ADP/ATP ratios and ROS levels. Results: Our therapy enhanced the oxidative metabolism profile of the cell by decreasing ADP/ATP ratios and ROS levels. In transient ischemia, administration of EtOH significantly raised the levels of PDHC and PDP in the ischemic brain issue and simultaneously decreased PDK levels. NBO combined with EtOH synergistically had better outcomes in the permanent ischemic stroke group, as compared to EtOH or NBO alone. Conclusion: EtOH and NBO treatment confirms neuroprotection in stroke by affecting brain catabolism. It modulates the damaging cascade of events by bringing the concentration of active PDHC activity back to metabolic levels.

Full text
Abstract:
Part One of this essay argued that the new field of juvenilia studies provides the explanatory framework that allows us to read what Young England does signify, and to indicate how the term “Young” signified in its time. More specifically, the recovery by juvenilia studies of the cultural presence of young people in Britain in the generation before Young England—its recovery of an active juvenile tradition of writers, simultaneous with and related to Romanticism—puts into context the self-fashioning and reception of this next post-Romantic generation: ambitious Young Englanders George Smythe (1818–57), John Manners (1818–1906), and Andrew Baillie-Cochrane (1816–90) in particular. Friends from boyhood, schoolmates at Eton and Cambridge, born into families of rank or on their way to titles, they looked to other bold young nobles who had made a splash before them—George Gordon, Lord Byron (1788–1824) and Percy Shelley (1792–1822). Those Romantics’ prior precocious fame provided the justification for believing that Young Englanders could make a splash too, and gave them the script for how to do so. Part Two focuses on Benjamin Disraeli (1804–1881), their political mentor, who used this script explicitly in his Coningsby novels about Young England, fusing the movement’s personalities with the characters of their meteoric Romantic predecessors.

"Modeling of Partially Wetting Liquid Film Using an Enhanced Thin Film Model for Aero-Engine Bearing Chamber Applications." Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power 143, no. 4 (February 8, 2021). http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/1.4049663.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract In the case of aero-engine, thin lubricating film servers dual purpose of lubrication and cooling. Prediction of dry patches or lubricant starved region in bearing or bearing chambers are required for safe operation of these components. In this work, thin liquid film flow is numerically investigated using the framework of the Eulerian thin film model (ETFM) for conditions, which exhibit partial wetting phenomenon. This model includes a parameter that requires adjustment to account for the dynamic contact angle. Two different experimental data sets have been used for comparisons against simulations, which cover a wide range of operating conditions including varying the flowrate, inclination angle, contact angle, and liquid–gas surface tension coefficient. A new expression for the model parameter has been proposed and calibrated based on the simulated cases. This is employed to predict film thickness on a bearing chamber which is subjected to a complex multiphase flow. From this study, it is observed that the proposed approach shows good quantitative comparisons of the film thickness of flow down an inclined plate and for the representative bearing chamber. A comparison of model predictions with and without wetting and drying capabilities is also presented on the bearing chamber for shaft speed in the range of 2500 RPM to 10,000 RPM and flowrate in the range of 0.5 liter per minute (LPM) to 2.5 LPM.
