Pagani-Naudet, Cendrine. "La dislocation du XIIe au XVIIe siècle : histoire d'un procédé de style : thèse." Nice, 2002. http://www.theses.fr/2002NICE2027.
Full textDislocation is described as an emphasis process, obtained by separating and repeating as a pronoun an essential component of the sentence. Though it is now acknowledged as a typical feature of oral and colloquial language, dislocation belongs to the most ancient heritage of our literature. The practice and reception of dislocation mainly depend on the grammatical context caused by the redundancy phenomena from the XVIIth century onwards. Fluctuating between mistake and literary device, that structure will not be the subject of a syntactical analysis until the end of the XXth century. Dislocation seems impossible to reduce to a strictly formal description, as its identification mainly lies on intuition. That is the reason why our study intends to reconsider literary past of dislocation, to recount its history, a history wich is in touch with the evolution of the language, the development of grammatical reflection, but also with the building of the linguistic feeling
Marcotte, Stéphane. "La coordination des propositions subordonnées en moyen français." Paris 4, 1995. http://www.theses.fr/1995PA040128.
Full textThis work, freely based on the transformational grammar of Noam Chomsky, examines the coordinative sequences of subordinate clauses in middle French (XIV-XVe s. ). Especially, we study the comportment of the subordinating conjunction in such sequences. This morpheme appears or not in the second subordinate clause and we try to give rules to explain this phenomenon. It is argued that the deletion of the conjunction is determined by six conditions on syntactic structure of the coordinate clauses. Second part of this work verifies the truth of our hypothesis for the relative clauses only. The facts enlightened by our point of view are rather numerous, including considerations about coordinating conjunctions and many other points seldom studied in grammatical literature
Sarre, Nguissaly. "La quantification indéfinie en moyen français : étude syntaxique, sémantique et lexicologique." Paris 4, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997PA040105.
Full textAfter having established classifications based on the meaning of the indefinite quantifiers, we made a syntactic, semantic and lexicographical study of these grammatical words having the essential function of indefinite determination. We determined the paradigmatic oppositions into which these terms fall, exclusive of the determination of the noun and we studied these morphemes not only when they function as a determiner of the noun but also when their function is pronominal, nominal and sometimes adverbial. We have thus examined all the uses of these terms of indefinite quantification in order to ascertain what all these uses have in common and arrive at a notion of potential signifier. This study of indefinite quantification concerns the period of middle French. It is therefore synchronic, given the corpus chosen, but it in no way neglects the diachronic perspective as it attempts to demonstrate the originality of such use from the 14th to the 15th centuries in relation to old French and especially in relation to modern French the syntagmatic position of these indefinite quantifiers within the nominal word group, the position occupied in relation to the other constituent elements of this nominal group and the fact that a certain number of these elements are mutually exclusive or, on the contrary, comptable, are the main points of comparison between two distinct stages of development of the French language

Full textDuring the period from the 14th to the 16th century, the predicative use of the infinitival and participle constructions expands in the french under the influence of the latin. Theses constructions have the distinctive features in their internal structure and discursive functions. The french authors and the translators of the latin were in the opposite for the use of these predicative constructions

Full textThis work wants to be a contribution to the description of the "diatopic" variation of an old state of French. In a 65 farces 2000 by A. Tissier achieved corpus, I observed the geographic distribution of all the vocabulary (actually, all the "diatopicly" specific vocabulary) with the help of available documentation (lexicography, secondary literature) ; this section of the work, organized in 640 monographs, is the largest chapter of my thesis, it is accompanied by 340 maps. Full textFrom a pool of nine texts of the fifteenth century (narrative and historical texts), one establishes three chronological stages. The change of basic word order from theme-verb to subject-verb-object is studied in independant clauses and subordinate clauses. For this study, we adopt the methodological framework of the functional sentence perspective, which correlates the syntactic level with the thematic level. It is possible to analyse the development of verbobject order taking into account three principal types of subordinate clauses : relative clauses, adverbial clauses, conjonctive clauses. We try to establish a correlation bet

Sui-referential shifter ci ici is the only one to be auto-saturated; the other "lacunary" shifters, presenting gaps, will be referentially saturated either by anaphora or by an act of pointing (deixis). Two of these adverbs, ci, ici and là, are not strictly spatial but, in fact, have the property to represent the whole of the situational context in which a proposition can be emmitted and valued
