Full textLearning French for Vietnamese has a linguistic dimension but it is also in the goal of the access to employment strategies. The demand for post-school learning languages is mainly oriented towards English. However there is also a demand for French and it has a history. This demand of post -school training could be found in two kinds of organizations: language centers and cultural centers. These two structures are in competition for learning French. Paradoxically, cultural centers offering teaching with native speakers, documentary resources, etc. Are less frequented than the language centers. Centers of foreign language opened in the evening and French cultural centers, contribute to the spread of the French language in Vietnam. However, the organization and pedagogical process of teaching French in these centers are different. Centers of foreign language in evening focus only on linguistic elements: grammar, vocabulary, language structure which are in the conception of teaching program. For their part, the cultural centers offer to learners linguistic elements, but also cultural knowledge related to French language. Our research is an attempt to understand the types of motivation for learning French and the representations of the activity learning, among Vietnamese learners. We assume that the representations of learning instrumental referred explain the differences in demands that opposite the two types of center. In this context, we question the conditions of the possibility of educational innovations in the field of language teaching

Full textBy the mean of an historical approach, this work gives an overview of the teaching in French and teaching of French and its perspectives in Vietnam. It will be developed in three parts. The first part deals with a traditional teaching based on the feudal China's model and its impact on the Vietnamese society during this period. This part constitutes a landmark, a comparison with the colonial educational system. The second part concerns the teaching in French and teaching of French during the colonial period (1858-1945) ; its impact on the Vietnamese society in contrast to the modernity. The third part deals with the teaching in French and teaching of French during the contemporary period (from 1945 to nowadays) and its present perspectives. The elaborated proposals and concrete solutions are based on the analyses of the elements hereunder : Vietnamese government' policy for languages teaching ; favourable factors to the development of French considered as a space of communication, space of knowledge, a privileged way to improve Vietnamese contacts with the EU ; survey and interview's results with French speaking population as well as French-Vietnamese representatives involved in this field ; learning French strategies and cognitive psychology. These proposals and solutions aim to help in setting down appropriate policy and strategy in order to define efficient learning and teaching French for the first decade of the XXIst century. The teaching in French and teaching of French has a crucial role in training Vietnamese generations which will become spokesmen for promoting French language and accelerating Vietnam's integration all over the world

Full textTwo main steps are conducted in this research. The first one, in Textlinguistics, starts from the hypothesis that there are specific processes that constitute the coherence and clarity of scientific explanations in French. Textual analysis aims to observe how a specialized speech (i. E. , agronomic subject) constructs its coherence so as to explain and transmit scientific knowledge. The second step starting from the hypothesis that textual dysfunction, specifically coherence problems, faced by Vietnamese students in their academic compositions aims to answer the questions in terms of didactics of French for specific purposes (as writing). In this step, we study the appropriateness of French coherence links used by Vietnamese students in their writings of scientific documents. Also in this research, by comparing Vietnamese and French, we would like to check the hypothesis we made at the beginning of our research: Scientific Vietnamese language does not set the same linguistic process as French does in constructing textual coherence, stemming from that language habit in the mother tongue constitutes a block for students in acquiring specific textual coherence in French

Full textWhy do the Vietnamese try to avoid getting into opposition with their speech counterparts , Is it possible that differences i linguistic systems have effect on the verbal behaviour of its speakers ? Are such differences considered as the only responsible factor ? Through this study, we have attempted to point out that the Vietnamese language, like the French language, supplies many diversified means to respond to all sorts of communication, and also, to explain that Vietnamese students of French avoid confrontation or direct formulation in cases of discord with their speakers. The real causes do not lie within the language itself, but rather within the culture. It is within the culture that observation and the respect of rites create, by its long inculcation and daily practice, a practice, a whole set of behaviours, which, by turn, create "social conformism". To enable students to learn French, debate and contradict, it is therefore necessary to provide them with not only linguistic means, but also a key to enter the culture of "Alterity"

Full textWe are interested in the development and the improvement of the teaching of oral expression of French as a second language (FSL) for pupils of bilingual classes in Vietnam. By observing the status of oral courses in various bilingual classes at primary schools in Vietnam, we found that the motivational dynamic plays a very important role in the development of oral expression of pupils in class. We defined our hypotheses by taking into account four main factors influencing to the motivational dynamic of oral expression of Vietnamese pupils in FSL classes: age, teacher, family and educative culture. By renouncing the traditional pedagogy which uses the magistral courses and emphasizes on the knowledge acquisition, we inspired the action-oriented approach proposed by CECRL (Cadre européen commun de référence pour les langues) for our experimental courses. In fact, in light of the actional perspective, the defined hypotheses led us to the application of different pedagogical and didactical methods of FSL teaching to a sample of pupils of CM1 - 1st year of medium courses 1 and CM2 - 2nd year of medium courses at Nam Thanh Cong primary school (Hanoï, Vietnam). The experimental results show the potential of our approaches in the development and the improvement of oral expression skills for young vietnamese FSL learner

Full textThe genesis of this research work ensues from the reflection on the practices of education with a group of Vietnamese professionals in the health sector. This study takes place in the context of the globalization and in that of Vietnam which tries to open economically on the outside world. The object of our research work concerns the study of the construction of meaning of a medical text by the Vietnamese learners. We shall be interested more particularly in the understanding / production of professional documents and in their appropriation in a hospital environment. This field of investigations is strictly connected to the operating concepts such as those of Text and Discourse, and occupying a central place in the definition of the text, the coherence / cohesion couple. Starting from the hypothesis that the medical discourse owes its legitimacy to the textual coherence, the major question is to wonder what are the constituents of the coherence of a specialized text. The operating concepts are borrowed from the Discourse analysis and its related disciplines. So, our work of analysis joins rather in the line of the discursive linguistics, and in the lesser measure of the psycholinguistics. This work privileges the study of the situations of linguistic communication, and thus the study of the kinds of discourse; it also places in the foreground the textual organization and the location of the marks of statement. With regards to the lines of coherence which specify the medical discourse to make it quite global, it is a question of studying them not only in their textual dimension but also in their pragmatic configuration, under their aspects that are thematic, enunciative, argumentative and communicational. In this theoretical frame of analysis the other elements of the architecture of the research are introduced: the problematic expression of the languages for specific purposes, the history of the medicine in Vietnam, requires an analysis on the educational tools and at the end that of the productions of learners. If this research does not really put new educational approaches of the medical speech in vietnamese proposed context, we would however think that the conclusions which we arrived will be of great interest and benefit to our colleagues in the area of french language teaching

Full textThe aim of this dissertation is to improve the teaching of argumentation in classes of French as a foreign language in Vietnam. The study is based on the assumption that the Vietnamese students are influenced by a particular culture where authority is very important; therefore the difficulties in participating to argumentative discussions are attributed to inhibitions produced by a complex system of authority. In this perspective, expressing and taking on a disagreement in an academic context marked by authority and consensus, is never so simple. Similarly, knowing when and how to use or criticize the argument of authority in an argumentative conversation is supposed to be difficult. This dissertation is structured in four parts. The first is based on the methodological principle that to teach argumentation in French as a foreign language we have to teach the argumentation as a general language as well as the ability to argue in one’s mother tongue, here Vietnamese. The second part is devoted to study the argumentation language in a contrastive perspective French / Vietnamese. We have translated in Vietnamese words and expressions which are, although basic, difficult to understand for our students. The third section focuses on study of authority and reasoning by authority. We tried to explain why the Vietnamese are "soft" in interaction while reflecting the predominance of "preference for agreement" in Vietnamese. We have extensively analyzed a disputed issue on the exploitation of bauxite in Vietnam. This analysis aims both to demonstrate the intensity of the arguments in contemporary Vietnam, and, on the other hand, it lays the foundation for the fourth part of the dissertation. This last part develops teaching units on various topics of current interest (e.g. cloning), is to propose a new approach to teaching argumentation in French as a second language, grounded in the necessary appropriation of argumentative contents and casting doubt on the too famous “Vietnamese passivity”

Full textA comparative study of language interactions in medical examination in French and in Vietnam has highlighted the differences in language, socio-culture which dominant the behavior of language of interlocutors and stay at many angles of language: vocative language, speech acts, etc. These differences form difficulties for Vietnamese doctors to communicate with French patients and/or French speaking patients. They affect not only the communication, but also re-structured situations. How do two interlocutors cooperate in communication ? or what strategies do they develop to cope with the difficulties ? Which tactics do they use to implement those strategies to understand each other ? These are questions that we would like to clarify in this study

The first part presents crucial notions in textual linguistics and discourse analysis, as well as the observations of economic and management texts, which help pave way for a better understanding of the argumentation and explanation in specialised texts. This third area stands in the middle of the thesis. This study tries to understand the way some scientific knowlege are used in the institutional documents, and to show how some paradigms under development are actually forgotten, such as method/process, expert/pratice, single/collective. These duos heavily impact the training of teachers of the EIDEF project (Intensive teaching Of and In French), that is one of the most important initiative for the development of Francophonie in Vietnam

Full textThis work is an attempt at giving a definition and at examining the notion of didact contract in the teaching of French as a Foreign Language. The writer ties to establish the connections between classroom contract and teacher'discourse with a view to evaluating the effectiveness of a lesson inVietnamese secondary schools and int the programme of intensive teaching of French and in French. Class observations, discussions, and investigations conducted with teachers of French and the students concerned have been used as data for both theoretical and practical analysis of the impact of a didactic contract and of teacher's discourse on the stakes of teaching and of student's success. This work shows a lot of consideration for the notion of didactic contract in language teaching methodology and in teacher training. The notion of didactic contract involves indeed teaching by means of a cooperation between teacher and students, each constitutes a link in the process of verbal interation to carry out a particular form of communication in which metadiscourse undeniably plays a very important part. But cooperation also means participation and responsability to oneself and to others and all this contributes to creating a conscious and committed activity that involves the teacher and his /her students in a persistent struggle against passiveness

Full textThis research consists of three main parts : First, a demarcation of the field of study followed by an inventory of its present day's composition insofar as research is concerned up to now. This study includes a close look at various stereotyped forms, which have gone through a process of lexicalisation before setting in the language. Secondly, the creative aspect of figurative expressions, indeed far from being a sclerosis heritage, still testifies as a poetic and a popular creation. An answer will be given to the question of how the set forms work, as it has been raised in the satirical novel "Le souverain pensif" by Morgan Sportès. It is by means of analysis of this book, considered as unique in its genre, that the phrasal competency of a native French has been measured in order to prove the vitality of language stereotypes. Thirdly, a report on the results of a survey conducted upon teachers and students presents conclusions based on theory and practice. These conclusions have led way to propositions and action plans as regards the teaching of the setting forms in a Vietnamese context thus , enabling a totally nex vision of didactology of culture and language

Full textThis dissertation aims to investigate teacher’s competences in the face of various contextual changes in the Vietnamese tertiary education which require new perspectives and approaches in curriculum development. These competences are analyzed in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR, 2001) on teachers’ professional competences and competent teachers. Data were collected from distributing survey questionnaires to in-service and pre-service teachers, interviews with university instructors. Data analysis reveals limitations in the current curriculum and helps to identify areas of competences that teachers of French in Vietnam need to develop. The research results consist of a competence framework with detailed descriptions for competence-based teacher training programs to be implemented

Full textThis research falls within the scope of teacher training. In its focus on the verbal component, this study aims at exploring the acquired knowledge as well as the needs encountered in the field, for the constitution of the professional communicative skills that are required from prospective teachers of French as a Foreign Language in Viet Nam. The purpose is to investigate the extent to which the actual teacher training at the University of Pedagogy meets, or not, these needs. An analysis is conducted to examine those practices (AP) that are considered to be a link between linguistic and professional training. For the purposes of the current research we have retained for analysis the verbal interactions in language classes, the account of teacher trainers on their practices, the evaluation of their students’ linguistic and professional competences during the period of the students' internship. Those investigations, deemed to be crucial, have contributed to identify the need for a wide range of a communicative and interactive palette, with particular interest on the teacher’s language acts in the classroom. This need could be met through AP sessions, an innovative experience for us thus far, which doubtlessly creates a space for identity construction that could be ideal for the development of the various competences of a language teacher, particularly in an Asian context. This study offers therefore a professional teaching perspective that will help improve professional training of prospective language teachers at the University of Pedagogy in Ho Chi Minh City, in Viet Nam

Full textAs Martine Abdallah-Pretceille pointed out, « if language learning remains confined to linguistics, there is every reason to believe that misunderstandings and incomprehension will persist and even multiply ». In fact, language is inseparable from culture. This notion, however, has been the subject of many definitions. As early as 1952, anthropologists Alfred Kroeber and Clyde Kluckhohn highlighted more than 160 meanings. So, which one do we teach and how? Based on corpus analysis and field surveys, our research, aims to examine the place of a cultural dimension in French textbooks used in Vietnam. We will begin with a descriptive and analytical study of the eight FFL course books applied in a university in Hanoi, focused on sociology, linguistics, didactics and interculturality. We will then question whether these elements meet the expectations of professors and students. Which aspects are currently privileged in this institution? Are the approach modalities relevant? The book, as a support system, is not a unique success factor of a language course. We will then continue our investigations to discover the realities of this form of teaching in FFL classes. In order to do so, we will use classic tools such as observation, questionnaires, interviews and round table discussions

From a pure ideological domination, the foreign language spreding has changed to a boorming market economy domination. This brings about a risk of monolinguism from anglo-american language which tends to be stronger as if foreign language were a simple instruymental tool. In this propest, the foreign language learning and teaching, in the event french, has never acquiered, in the vietnamese context, the real school subject status. The purpose of this study is to make a report of this moving reality which stakes are to be determined, not only in their politico-economical dependance. But also, and particulary, through others fields that underlies the balanced developement of the contemporaingy vietnamese and of the society in which he lives

Full textIn this thesis, the emphasis is put on the practice in class of the personal diary written in French as a second language. The main idea consists in wondering if the use of personal and extra-curricular writing could motivate school writing. The first part of the thesis aims to establish a inventory of the teaching-learning process in French at university level in Vietnam and to make suggestions for using a teaching-learning process of writing in French as a second language more focused on the psycho-affective dimension of the learner. In the second part, are presented first the route covered, from an empiric approach to the constitution of an object of research, then the conceptual lines and finally, the procedures to lead this research. The third part is built on written and oral data taken, to evaluate the nature of the written works created as well as the efficiency of the use of intimate and personal writing in the learning process of writing in the target language

Full textThis is a synchronic survey (made in 2003) with focus on social perceptions of French Language among students in Bachelor of French language in the five countries mentionned in the title. Fifteen universities located in nine cities (Phnom Penh, Vientiane, Singapore, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Pattani, Bangkok, Hô Chi Minh Ville and Hanoi) were selected for this survey. The thesis is made up of three parts : theoretical elements, area and population description, analysis of collected data. Theoretical elements concern the notion of social perception (definitions, development process and transformation, structure and various perspectives for research) and the impact of the perception of a language on its learning process. A short description of South-east Asia is given first, before the description of areas studied and before the methodological choices. The countries, cities and universities were the survey has been conducted are then described from an historical, economical and cultural standpoint, more specifically with regard to the educational policy, in particular on teaching French. The survey results concern the various perception elements (attitudes, opinions, images etc…) collected among the students about French language, French country and French people and sometimes about other languages. This is a comparative study of social representations between the students organised in subpopulations (on the criteria of countries, cities, universities, sexes, stage in cursus or social class). The general conclusion of the thesis enounces the projects of complementary research and the proposals in the fields of applied linguistics and language policy

Full textDuring a learning process, and especially in foreign languages, it will be difficult for students to avoid mistakes when trying to express themselves. Indeed, if they want to gain a certain ability, sudents will have to face a risk : express something uncorrect or not fully satisfactory. So, in the process, a “gain” could mean a “loss”. A large number of vietnamese students learning french as a foreign language fear “to loose face” in public, particularly when potential mistakes are related to linguistics and sociolinguistics aspects. “How to talk without making too many mistakes”, they think. This special problem often leads students to build strategies to avoid “loosing face” as a priority. To achieve this goal, they tend to minimise, as much as they can, risks of mistake through communication or speeches. Our research focuses on those strategies and their consequences. We review first theories and previous studies on this topic and we try, in conclusion, to link reality and didactics in the case of asian vietnamese students

Following a carreful review of FLE methods in use in Vietnam, we are proposing to assess the current state of different approaches, which contribute to stereotypy as a theoretical object, as well as various percpectives, which put the analysis of stereotypy in the problematic sense of language in the speach and in the communication. Our goal is to try to rehebilitate, reevaluate and remodel the notion of "stereotype", which has been negleted and rejeted for most of the history of the didactic of the languages- cultures. Full textThis research, initiated from the reality of French language teaching in primary schools within a project entitled “Intensive teaching of and in French language” (EIDEF), implemented in Vietnam for ten years, examines Vietnamese young children's writing competencies appropriation in Vietnamese and in French language. This qualitative, longitudinal and comparative research was undertaken in a Vietnamese primary school for 2 consecutive years, involving 37 children from 7 to 10 years old, 20 of those were Vietnamese-French “bilinguals” and 17 monolinguals. The research analyses surveys through teachers' questionnaires, interviews and pupils' interviews, papers to identify the development of writing competencies acquisition in Vietnamese and in French as well as these competencies' transfers of “bilingual” children. The results confirm the hypothesis of beneficial effects brought about by writing competencies' transfers to children in situation of early contact of languages. Additionally, the research outcomes also prove that these transfers obviously help the children better write in their mother tongue language, which eventually involves advantages for literacy acquisition and better chance of school success

From a communicative approach, the meaning that is to be taught is the result of the interaction between language and several elements such as society, culture and communication. It concerns the fields of linguistics, psychology and pragmatics. The didactology of languages and cultures reflects the mingling of various methods in the field of teaching foreign languages. It recognizes interdisciplinary subjects and the multeity of the learners in order to reinforce a methodology which is adapted to each learner. We can find the concrete application of those principles in the study of the teaching of reading methods to a Vietnamese public of future teachers of the French language

The direction consist in identifying the factors that may disrupt the understanding of a text : lexical, syntax or textual difficulties, lack of confidence in cross cultural understanding, class management. The main part of this thesis aimed at analyzing literature class, within three orientations : textual (corpus of text chosen by the teacher), interactions (observations made during dedicated exercises in class), and didactic (pedagogic targets and class techniques). Finally, based on theory and practice, this thesis proposes an innovative way, based on the relation between Read/Write, with an intercultural mindsed

Full textFrench manuals are used in teaching French, a foreign language, in many universities in Vietnam. They are basic supporting materials in class, and teachers are authorized to borrow comprehension and expression exercises in these manuals to develop the learners’ language competence. For several decades the manuals have progressively been renewed for updating and enriching information as well as diversifying images. Lots of images presented in these manuals are being used as documents for pedagogical aim or objectives for learning activities. Especially, press photographs, research subject in this study, which are considered as a means of communication, can indeed attract learners’ attention. Besides their informative function, they have another mission, a vehicle for cultural messages, which represent differences between French culture and Vietnamese culture through symbols and cultural implicites. The study concerns 46 textbooks published between 1994 and 2015 and proposes the qualitative analysis of 284 images of press. Aiming to propose a new look at the reality of editorial modality, we have analyzed the press photographs in which cultural connotations are evoked, which are difficult for learners from another culture to comprehend

Full textEven if the integration of educational technology in teaching/learning languages is, indeed, of interest, up to present, the utilisation of such a new form of teaching aids istill not yet widely spread, as for the case of Vietnam. With this present study, we will closely look into the assistance provided by these multimedia teaching aids in the field of oral comprehension competency. Therefore, we will, firstly, analyse research work done in this field of studies. Next, we will try to trackle issues which have been questioned during the pedagogical process od designing a multimedia tool. Lastely, we will present some new principles concerning the conception and the elaboration of a multimedia product

Full textThis thesis aims to reconsider the position and impact of literary texts in language teaching. Literary studies can be strengthened by reading literary texts, i.e. a complex activity which mobilizes at the same time non linguistic and linguistic skills, and contributes to increase the reader’s knowledge and capacities. This hypothesis is confirmed by the analysis of the result of the here proposed inquiries of ground which measure the impact of the literary reading in the learning of / in the French as a foreign language. At the same time, the accent is put on the contribution of the theories of the enunciation and the grammar of text in the service of the literary texts analysis in the aim of restoring the relation between linguistics and literature. By supplying tools of analysis, by suggesting some didactic proposals in the field of reading of literary texts, the thesis proposes examples, which highlight the fact that literature teaching consists in teaching either only works, but also way to read: it will be a question of passing from a static conception to a dynamic conception of the literature and its teaching

Full textOur research pertains to the field of interactional linguistics. It presents a study of compliments exchanged during conversations that occurred over the course of visits between friends in France and in Vietnam. It deals more particularly to reactions to compliments, as well as with the question of the participants' faces, which falls under the notion of linguistic politeness. Based on audiovisual data that were recorded during spontaneous conversations, we have collected a wide range of occurrences in French and Vietnamese, and proposed a detailed transcript of selected excerpts, taking into consideration verbal productions and multimodality. Using an intercultural and comparative approach, we have produced an interactional and multimodal analysis, which allowed us to point out the convergences and the divergences in the ways compliments are made and how participants from both countries react to them. These descriptions rely onverbal as well as multimodal resources used by participants in both their evaluative and reactive turns. The first part of our study describes the specifics of the various types of compliments identified in each corpus. The second part deals more specifically with the reactions to compliments. It highlights the discursive strategies that are used by interlocutors in order to reconcile two diverging conversational principles –agreement and modesty. The studied responses show on the one hand some similarities between the two languages in terms of linguistic expression of politeness, and on the otherhand a significant divergence.Conversations in the Vietnamese corpus tend to be lengthened, while in the French corpus they are likely to be shortened

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to analyse in depth the question of learner autonomy, considered to be a fundamental requirement in the educational field. Adopting a cultural perspective, the study acknowledges first of all the difficulty in applying western models to the context of learning French as a foreign language in Vietnam. It adopts an abductive research method based on a grounded theory approach entailing successive interplay between empirical work and theory. A rich and complex corpus has been collected through filming, interviews, the log-books of the four students observed, the exchange of emails and note-taking. In order to elucidate the complexity of the concept of autonomy it was necessary to explore the notions of strategy and competence and to identify learning difficulties. The study reveals notably that emotion plays an intermediary role in the interdependent relationship between the different learning components. This relationship is based upon both linear and cyclical causality. By showing the different obstacles the actor-learner must overcome in order to be autonomous, the study affirms the necessity to keep a balance between analytic and synthetic modes of thinking. Scaffolding the leaner’s development requires the tutor to accompany him/her towards this balance and to endeavour to maintain the same balance during the scaffolding process

Full textThe standard discourse produced by official organisations is confronted with the unofficial or informal discourse of the social web. Empowering people to express themselves results in a new balance of authority, when it comes to knowledge and changes the way people learn. Social web discourse is available to each and everyone and its size is growing fast, which opens up new fields for both humanities and social sciences to investigate. The latter, however, are not equipped to engage with such complex and little-analysed data. The aim of this dissertation is to investigate how far social web discourse can help supplement official discourse. In it we set out a method to collect and analyse data that is in line with the characteristics of a digital environment, namely data size, anonymity, transience, structure. We focus on forums, where such discourse is built, and test our method on a specific social issue, ie the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Vietnam. This field of investigation encompasses several related questions that have to do with health, society, the evolution of morals, the mismatch between different kinds of discourse. Our study is also grounded in the analysis of a comparable French corpus dealing with the same topic, whose genre and discourse characteristics are equivalent to those of the Vietnamese one: this two-pronged research highlights the specific features of different socio-cultural environments
Dang, Hong Khanh. "La Francophonie et la coopération Vietnam - Afrique." Thesis, Lyon, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016LYSE3029.
Full textMy thesis addresses Vietnam’s request to enforce its cooperation with African countries, which at present is still modest despite its growing interest there. Vietnam finds itself in a context of accelerated globalization with the emergence of both capitalism and English language. On the international scene, new dynamics are observed, such as the strong economic growth of Southern countries like China, India and Brazil, and their remarkable cooperation with African countries. At the core of this process, what distinguishes Vietnam from other South-South cooperation is that it shares with Africa the Francophonie, a political and cultural organization gathering as of 2016, 80 States and governments who share French as a language.Their francophone bond was constructed through a common history linked to decolonization and to the fact of being both Third World countries. My work answers the following question: does Francophonie, as a cultural political construct, contribute to promote the cooperation between Vietnam and Africa, particularly in the economic sector? I use Max Weber and Jean Baeschler’s ideas on the origins of capitalism in order to demonstrate the potential and current reality of the Francophone element present in the cooperation between Vietnam and Africa before proposing Vietnam’s ‘Francophone’ strategy aiming at strengthening its role in Africa. The Vietnam-Africa cooperation may serve as a case study enabling to reflect on other francophone South-South cooperation

Full textThis thesis is about French as foreign language teaching practices inside vietnamese academic community. Its purpose is to study these practices based on teachers’ representations in order to understand how they would use teaching methods closed to theoretical references of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - they were trained with their theoretical references - and what they actually they say they do in their classes practices inside the educational local culture. This title « Midway between cultural education and cultural learning » identifies the dialectics or contentious connection between the heritage of cultural customs which exists inside learning-education traditional methods and western influences as the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages which represents one of the methods to learn and teach languages. Between this past and present methodologies, the issue is to understand how teachers perceive their practices when we know that vietnamese government promotes western influences in its language policy. This thesis tries to answer at 2 questions : 1. What is the impact of educative and social culture in the way teachers teach ? 2. In what ways and how far they adapt these western influences to vietnamese local context ? In methodological way, this thesis gives priority to qualitative approach and bases on fifteen academic teachers of French as foreign language interviews based in North, Center and South Vitenam
