ABSTRACTAlthough clinical epidemiology lists human enteric viruses to be among the primary causes of acute gastroenteritis in the human population, their circulation in the environment remains poorly investigated. These viruses are excreted by the human population into sewers and may be released into rivers through the effluents of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). In order to evaluate the viral diversity and loads in WWTP effluents of the Paris, France, urban area, which includes about 9 million inhabitants (approximately 15% of the French population), the seasonal occurrence of astrovirus

Abstract:
Four marine bacterial strains were isolated from a thallus of the brown alga Ascophyllum nodosum collected in Roscoff, France. Cells were Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic, non-flagellated, gliding, rod-shaped and grew optimally at 25–30 °C, at pH 7–8 and with 2–4 % NaCl. Phylogenetic analyses of their 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the bacteria were affiliated to the genus Zobellia (family Flavobacteriaceae , phylum Bacteroidetes ). The four strains exhibited 97.8–100 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity values among themselves, 97.9–99.1 % to the type strains of Zobellia amurskyensis

An anaerobic, spore-forming, 3-hydroxybutyrate (3-HB)-producing bacterium, strain IPX_CKT, was isolated from sediment of a meromictic lake located in Massif Central (France). Cells were rods, forming filamentous chains which were observed moving under the microscope. Strain IPX_CKT utilized a wide variety of carbohydrates, but not raffinose, rhamnose and starch. Hydrogen (H2), 3-HB, acetate and ethanol were the main fermentative end-products from growth in medium containing glucose. Strain IPX_CKT grew optimally at 37 °C and pH 7. Designed to be distinctive and instantly recognisable, the totemic symbols served to signal the origin of the bearer. Subsequently, the development of branding coincided with periods of increased in mobility both in respect to geography and social strata.
