La metodología realizada en este estudio podrá ser tomada como una referencia para posteriores trabajos de optimización y diseño en turbinas Francis o implementaciones de estas en centrales hidroeléctricas.

Notre thèse se fonde sur l’idée qu’une œuvre s’identifie à une totalité ordonnée par des principes (esthétiques, dramatiques) autour d’un centre (l’auteur) et nous tentons de bâtir celle de Coppola à travers l’analyse de ses films. Ces derniers se présentent comme des récits dont l’étude narratologique permet d’établir la permanence d’une histoire : un personnage transgresse les lois d’un système qui, en retour, le sanctionne. On le voit, si nous avons isolé, dans notre titre, transgression et châtiment, ces actions sont liées à leurs sujets, le héros et l’ordre. Pour comprendre l’articulation du narratif et du filmique, la notion d’ordre est centrale : elle désigne un ensemble de valeurs et des règles (culturelles, morales, économiques, sociales) relatives à une collectivité et représentées par un pouvoir. Mais sa présence définit aussi ce qui détermine les conditions d’existence du monde filmique, autrement dit l’organisation des moyens par lesquels le cinéma peut exprimer l’illusion de la vie humaine. La thèse, durant trois parties portant sur l’analyse des films (et après une première qui est strictement narratologique), en propose une lecture sur deux niveaux complémentaires : le premier relève de la fiction, le second de l’art qui l’autorise. Cette perspective permet de donner à la figure du héros luttant contre un monde qui l’aliène, une signification qui, sans altérer son caractère mythique, l’insère dans une dimension spécifiquement cinématographique
This thesis is based on the assumption that an artist’s work is a coherent whole structured by aesthetic and dramatic principles conjured up by a central figure – the author. Therefore, it aims to establish the coherence of Coppola’s work through an analysis of his films. These films appear as narratives characterized by a recurrent storyline: a protagonist transgresses the laws of a system which in turn punishes him/her. Therefore, transgression and punishment imply the existence of a collective order to which the figure of the hero is subordinated. The notion of order is central to understanding the articulation between narrative and aesthetics, as it implies the existence of a set of rules and values – cultural, moral, economic, and social – by which a community defines itself. In Coppola's films, these rules are embodied in either a power figure or a power structure. But order is also about creating the framework which permits the very existence of cinema: the various means and devices through which film manages to convey the illusion of human life. Following a first, strictly narratological part, this study is divided into three parts focusing on film analysis, and develops a reading of Coppola’s films from two inseparable perspectives: the fiction narrative and the artistry which generates it. Such an approach imbues the figure of the hero fighting an alienating world with a meaning that, far from altering its mythical quality, reinscribes it within a properly cinematic dimension

Aborda el estudio de uno de los principales problemas de funcionamiento que aquejan a las turbinas Francis: la cavitación, tanto en su forma cualitativa como cuantitativa. Busca encontrar el caudal de máxima eficiencia de la turbina usada en la Central Hidroeléctrica Cahua, ubicada al norte de Lima y verificar si esta central presenta problemas de cavitación durante su operación. Válida la simulación realizada con el simulador ANSYS 14.5 haciendo uso de material bibliográfico y referencias. El estudio de este fenómeno proporciona información para mejorar la eficiencia de una central hidroeléctrica, ya que obtendremos los puntos críticos de operación de las turbinas Francis.

Abstract:
In this thesis I investigate the nature of noir subjectivity, and the degree to which it can be described as heroic. To investigate these issues, I have chosen to illustrate my argument by analysing my novel, Viper, and two films that renew the noir cycle at different socio-political crossroads in America: in 1958, Alfred Hitchcock???s late noir, Vertigo, and in 1974, Frances Ford Coppola???s neo-noir, The Conversation. Because these texts present an extreme theorisation of deception in terms of the assembling and erasure of subjective identity, they will serve as a basis to explore the question of noir subjectivity. In proceeding thus, I argue in the dissertation that film noir???s most innovative borrowing can be described as a monstrous stitching together of incompatible parts???the real and the imaginary, the past and the present, the living and the dead???which accounts for a cut both between, and within, the image. It is this prosthetic approach to representation that takes the noir mode beyond its existential, individualist limits, and accounts for the subjective wound in noir: the heroic conflict between the singular and the multiple. In my analytic procedure then, I extend the idea of monstrosity beyond its current boundaries in contemporary theory. I do this by fusing Marie H??l??ne Huet???s conception of the monstrous imagination, which is a theory of art, with Gilles Deleuze???s powers of the false, which belongs to a philosophy of time. I posit a dialogic exchange across these analyses and my novel to suggest that the cinematic cut not only accounts for what Deleuze has termed the time-image but also is symptomatic of the chronic wounding of the riven noir hero. These analyses suggest that, while sustaining the aura of authorship through technical innovation and stylistic mastery, film noir serves paradoxically to challenge the mastery of the model designated as masculine. In my novel I continue to deal with the issues raised in the dissertation, through a rearticulation of a subjectivity that irrevocably alters its relation to representation in its affinity with the image, its serial movement through interstitial space, and its novel powers of falsification.

La tesis desarrollada abarca la construcción de un sistema que muestra el funcionamiento de dos turbinas, aprovechando la operación de una electrobomba centrífuga para simular el salto hidráulico. El trabajo comprende; la construcción del módulo “Montaje de las turbinas, sistema eléctrico, electrobomba y simulación de la caída de agua”, la selección de los instrumentos y dispositivos así como los procedimientos de evaluación y diseño, se utilizara datos comerciales. Que se propone permitirá: visualizar los diferentes comportamientos hidráulicos y eléctricos que se presenten.

Wim Wenders, avec Faux Mouvement, James Gray, avec Two Lovers, Alexandre Sokourov, avec Faust, Francis Ford Coppola, avec Twixt, et Sylvie Verheyde, avec Confession d’un enfant du siècle, ont accordé une place singulière au matériau romantique. Par la pratique de l’adaptation, ces cinq cinéastes ont engagé un dialogue entre deux mouvements esthétiques, le romantisme et l’esthétique postmoderne. À travers cette rencontre, ils ont questionné une esthétique de la surface à l’aune d’une esthétique de l’intériorité, ils ont mobilisé des caractères romantiques qu’ils ont confrontés à des contextes historique et esthétique singuliers. Ces expressions néoromantiques, bien que prenant forme dans des espaces géographiques différents, ont en partage des traits, mettant en lumière un néoromantisme cinématographique. Enfin, le traitement, parfois très libre, du matériau littéraire originel questionne la notion d’adaptation cinématographique. De par les multiples sources mobilisées et la lecture du cinéaste toujours personnelle, les notions d’adaptation et de fidélité s’effacent au profit de celle de « recréation »
Wim Wenders, with “Wrong Move”, James Gray, with “Two Lovers”, Alexander Sokurov, with “Faust”, Francis Ford Coppola, with “Twixt”, and Sylvie Verheyde, with “Confession of a Child of the Century”, have given a unique place to the romantic material. Through the practice of the film adaptation, these five filmmakers have engaged a dialogue between two aesthetic movements, romanticism and the postmodern aesthetic. Through this encounter, they have questioned an aesthetic of the surface in terms of an aesthetic of interiority, and they have mobilized romantic characters confronted to historical and aesthetical singular contexts. Even though these neoromantic expressions are formed into various geographic areas, they share lines, highlighting a cinematographic neoromanticism. Lastly, the treatment, sometimes very open, of the original literary material questions the concept of film adaptation. By the multiple sources mobilized and the necessarily individual filmmaker’s interpretation, the concepts of adaptation and fidelity fade in favor of the concept of “recreation”

La deuxième partie de la thèse traite de l’image du vampire, ainsi que de son évolution progressive dans les médiums artistiques que sont le roman et le film. On y aborde également la narration au sein de l’œuvre fantastique, particulièrement d’un point de vue visuel et les métamorphoses qu’elle engendre. La dernière partie s’attache à décrire la figure du vampire en tant que mythe contemporain humanisé, dans deux films devenus des classiques du genre : Bram Stoker’s Dracula de Francis Ford Coppola et Entretien avec un vampire de Neil Jordan
The first part is devoted to the origin of the figure of the vampire. Its roots, its origin in people’s beliefs and its confrontation to religion, it’s an analyses as well as its evolution into a modern myth figure in literature and in cinema. The second part deals with the vampire’s image and with its gradual evolution in two artistic media : the novel and the film. We also discuss the narration within a fantastic work, especially from a visual point of view and through the transformations it causes. The last part describes the vampire’s figure as a contemporary humanized myth in two films that have become classics : Bram Stoker’s Dracula by F. F. Coppola and Interview With the Vampire by Neil Jordan

Abstract:
This dissertation is an in-depth critical analysis of four American films made during the 1970s, with emphasis placed on the films' construction of gender and sexuality. This dissertation draws from the tradition of queer film criticism presented in the writings of such theorists as Barbara Creed, Alexander Doty, Richard Dyer, Vito Russo, and Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick. Taking a queer perspective, these film readings explore how particular works implement queer codes and foster a sexually ambiguous world on film. While not typically included in discussions of Queer Cinema or New American Cinema, these four films, Martin Scorsese's Mean Streets (1973), Francis Ford Coppola's The Conversation (1974), Steven Spielberg's Jaws (1975), and Stanley Kubrick's The Shining (1980), exhibit a family resemblance and as a cycle are products of a particular period in American cinematic experimentation. A detailed scene-by-scene analysis is enacted in order to bring to light queer moments in the films and queer concerns of the films' makers. Raising questions about how the camera constructs character identities in these films, this study is reflective of the ways queer perspectives inflect filmmaking from this era.

¿En qué medida la naturaleza metafísica de la ἀνάγκη (ananké, necesidad) y su respectiva causalidad permite identificarla como una causa productiva (tal como es calificado el demiurgo – inteligencia, νοῦς–)? La presente investigación demostrará que, al contrario del juicio general sobre la naturaleza metafísica ananké –aquella acuñada por el comentario de Francis M. Cornford–, hay suficientes indicios y argumentos a favor de una interpretación que destaque, por un lado, el rol y la participación de la ananké como una causa productiva en la generación del cosmos y, por otro lado, reconozca el estatuto ontológico de esta, en particular, que –en virtud de ser anterior al cosmos y poseer una relativa independencia de tanto de las Ideas y del Demiurgo– la ananké es un principio metafísico, necesario para poder elaborar el mythos logos expuesto por Timeo en el diálogo del mismo nombre. Así, en el primer capítulo se presentará un análisis y una crítica hacia los argumentos del comentarista Francis M. Cornford en torno a su comprensión de Platón de la ἀνάγκη y de las αἴτῐαι en el Timeo, según la cual la ananké es el producto del Alma irracional del Mundo. Una vez delimitadas las objeciones hacia la exégesis de Cornford, en el segundo capítulo se explicará cómo, con base en argumentos y en la evidencia textual en la obra del Timeo, esta última interpretación armoniza perfectamente con lo estipulado en el mismo diálogo. De esta manera se concluirá que no hay ningún problema en admitir la tesis defendida en este trabajo

The present Master Thesis investigates the concept of international franchising from both business and legal standpoints. The actuality of the topic is obvious: Franchising becomes one of the most perspective and fast-developing method for business expansion, and this Diploma was written as a reflection of such tendency. In the meantime, Franchising is an extremely complex and arguable business issue and still causes a kind of confusion in people's mind. For this reason, my effort in this Work is concentrated on the diversified influence franchising has on the business and economic environment, especially in times of economic troubles. And the Thesis proves the strong correlation between the economic and legal climate from the one hand, and the business opportunities from the other. This Diploma aims at the comprehensive research of the selected theoretical and practical aspects of international Franchising. The research is focused on detailed description of the three major pillars: franchise contract, the most evident franchising trends in terms of potential opportunities and risks, and, finally, the franchise overview with the analysis of the specific industries. The main conclusion that arises from this Thesis is definitely that international franchising is not just "a vehicle for conducting business" for large-scale experienced companies, but a real driver for globalization process now-a-days. The key message is that franchising tends to be considered more as the great business opportunity, even for small- or medium-sized companies, rather then a risky business concern. It is my great hope that this Master Thesis might help the potential entrepreneurs to create a broader view on franchising in international business format before making an intelligent decision about investing in a franchise.

This dissertation aims at investigating the account of the relationship between knowledge and political action articulated by Francis Bacon (1561-1626). Special attention will be devoted to bacon’s works The Advancement of Learning (1605) and Novum Organum (1620). The methodological renewal advocated by Bacon will be situated in the context of exposition to the aristotelian legacy generated by the Renaissance Humanism and the Protestant Reformation. The use of Aristotelian terminology in Bacon’s thought will be presented as a source of confusion. In this sense, the baconian concept of form will be indicated as a clear-cut case of terminological confusion. Despite its terminological confusions and conceptual problems the method of induction proposed by Bacon fostered massive changes in scientific knowledge and signifintly influenced the life of society. In the addition to this, Bacon associated the advancement of knowledge with the idea of social progress. It may be objected that Bacon’s thought tends to subordinate ethics to technical knowledge, but there is no doubt that his contribution is essential for the understanding of the Industrial Revolution, the Enlightenment, The Positivism and the contemporary proposals of social engineering.
Esta dissertação tem por objetivo investigar a abordagem da relação entre conhecimento e ação política articulada por Francis Bacon (1561-1626). As obras O Progresso do Conhecimento (1605) e Novum Organum (1620) receberão especial atenção. A renovação metodológica advogada por Bacon será situada no contexto de oposição ao legado aristotélico pelo humanismo renascentista e pela reforma protestante. A utilização da terminologia aristotélica no pensamento de Bacon será apresentada como uma fonte de confusão. Neste sentido, o conceito baconiano de forma será indicado como um caso claríssimo de confusão terminológica. A despeito de suas confusões terminológicas e dos seus erros conceituais, o método indutivo proposto por Bacon fomentou gigantescas modificações na construção do saber científico e influenciou significativamente a vida da sociedade. E mais: ele associou o avanço do conhecimento com o progresso social. Pode-se objetar que o pensamento de Bacon tende a subordinar a ética à técnica, mas não se pode negar que contribuição dele é essencial para a compreensão da Revolução Industrial, do Iluminismo, do Positivismo e das propostas contemporâneas de engenharia social.

CoordenaÃÃo de AperfeÃoamento de Pessoal de NÃvel Superior
RESUMO Esta dissertaÃÃo tem por objetivo investigar a abordagem da relaÃÃo entre conhecimento e aÃÃo polÃtica articulada por Francis Bacon (1561-1626). As obras O Progresso do Conhecimento (1605) e Novum Organum (1620) receberÃo especial atenÃÃo. A renovaÃÃo metodolÃgica advogada por Bacon serà situada no contexto de oposiÃÃo ao legado aristotÃlico pelo humanismo renascentista e pela reforma protestante. A utilizaÃÃo da terminologia aristotÃlica no pensamento de Bacon serà apresentada como uma fonte de confusÃo. Neste sentido, o conceito baconiano de forma serà indicado como um caso clarÃssimo de confusÃo terminolÃgica. A despeito de suas confusÃes terminolÃgicas e dos seus erros conceituais, o mÃtodo indutivo proposto por Bacon fomentou gigantescas modificaÃÃes na construÃÃo do saber cientÃfico e influenciou significativamente a vida da sociedade. E mais: ele associou o avanÃo do conhecimento com o progresso social. Pode-se objetar que o pensamento de Bacon tende a subordinar a Ãtica à tÃcnica, mas nÃo se pode negar que contribuiÃÃo dele à essencial para a compreensÃo da RevoluÃÃo Industrial, do Iluminismo, do Positivismo e das propostas contemporÃneas de engenharia social.
This dissertation aims at investigating the account of the relationship between knowledge and political action articulated by Francis Bacon (1561-1626). Special attention will be devoted to baconâs works The Advancement of Learning (1605) and Novum Organum (1620). The methodological renewal advocated by Bacon will be situated in the context of exposition to the aristotelian legacy generated by the Renaissance Humanism and the Protestant Reformation. The use of Aristotelian terminology in Baconâs thought will be presented as a source of confusion. In this sense, the baconian concept of form will be indicated as a clear-cut case of terminological confusion. Despite its terminological confusions and conceptual problems the method of induction proposed by Bacon fostered massive changes in scientific knowledge and signifintly influenced the life of society. In the addition to this, Bacon associated the advancement of knowledge with the idea of social progress. It may be objected that Baconâs thought tends to subordinate ethics to technical knowledge, but there is no doubt that his contribution is essential for the understanding of the Industrial Revolution, the Enlightenment, The Positivism and the contemporary proposals of social engineering

This dissertation provides a critical re-assessment of the oeuvre of Francis Picabia (1879-1953) and assesses the ways the artist worked to resist the accommodation and domestication of his work. It emphasizes the role of negation and refusal in his painting and poetry, and examines his role as Dadaist and polemicist. This dissertation argues that as artists struggled to render art meaningful and sustainable under the totalizing effects of capitalism and modernity in the first half of the twentieth century, Picabia sought to travesty rather than transcend modernity by enacting an extremely nihilistic form of self-criticism and institutional critique. Picabia’s constant change of style and medium, delight in contradiction, elusive social behavior, extreme egoism, and steadfast commitment to the destabilization of intentionality in his work sought to interrupt the colonizing processes of commodification and to tautologically address the paradoxical and contradictory character of securing meaning in a world without meaning. Divided into five chapters, beginning with Picabia’s affiliation with Puteaux Cubism in Paris in 1911 and ending with a discussion of the final works made before his death in 1953, this dissertation seeks to contextualize major moments of during his career when refusal and negation—even the possible dissolution of his own practice—became the focus of his artistic production. Drawing on the theories of the literary critic Peter Bürger and the Hegelian-Marxist art historian TJ Clark, this study works to come to terms with the strengths, limits, and unresolved ambiguities of Picabia’s willfully antagonistic and conflicted oeuvre and to underscore the critical pressure his work and actions placed on stable narratives of modernism and the conditions that regulate and make meaning available in modern art.

A presente dissertação tem como objetivo analisar uma prática artística que, na contemporaneidade, vem ganhando ampla dimensão e recorrência: o ato de andar. As implicações do percurso e sua dimensão plástica são motes cruciais a esta análise, que busca, à luz de um recorte histórico, traçar as especificidades desse ato com base na análise de produções artísticas posteriores à década de 1960. Para entendimento dos distintos aspectos que o caminhante apresenta na arte contemporânea, são traçadas três aproximações que, paralela e independentemente, dão subsídios à análise proposta. A primeira delas, aborda a caminhada no contexto de um breve panorama histórico das produções artísticas, buscando qualificar dois momentoschaves para a diferenciação dos trabalhos que a tomam como mote: a caminhada como representação e a caminhada como ato. A segunda aproximação faz o levantamento do léxico que tem paulatinamente buscado qualificar a caminhada nas suas mais diferentes acepções. É desse léxico que emergem as principais considerações teóricas sobre as especificidades da caminhada como ato com implicações estéticas, tendo como base a deriva situacionista, a estética radicante de Nicolas Bourriaud e a abordagem fenomenológica de Thierry Davila sobre deslocamento. Por fim, a terceira aproximação apresenta um estudo de caso que consiste na análise da produção do artista de origem belga, radicado no México, Francis Alÿs.
This dissertation aims at analyzing an artistic practice that, in contemporaneity, has gained a vast extension and recurrence: the act of walking. The implications of the pathway and its aesthetic dimension are crucial mottos in the analysis that tries to outline this act\'s specificities, focusing on the artistic productions after the 1960\'s. To understand the distinct qualities that the walker pursues in contemporary art, three approaches are outlined; in parallel and independently, they subsidize the proposed analysis. The first deals with the insertion of the act of walking in a brief historical panorama of the artistic works, specifying two key-moments: walking as representation and walking as an act. The second approach presents an inventory of the lexicon that gradually qualifies the act of walking in its most various meanings. It is from this glossary that the main theoretical considerations about the specificities of walking as an act with aesthetical implications emerge from, based on the situationist dérive, on Nicolas Bourriaud\'s radicant aesthetics and on Thierry Davila\'s phenomenological approach on displacement. Lastly, the third approach presents a case study that has the analysis and interpretation of Belgian artist Francis Alÿs\' as its key element, an example of the artist as a contemporary drifter/wanderer and his insertion in and relation with the city.

I explored computer graphics and video technology while drawing from a multi-faceted background in art. This project attempts to communicate through visual expression the innate qualities of music and sound, while reflecting my interests as an artist. I intend this work to be viewed as either a live performance piece to be accompanied by the piano duet, Sonata for Two Pianos, or as a recording on a computer monitor or television.

ABSTRACT This work answers the question “Who was Frances Virginia?” by recovering the story of an Atlanta entrepreneur, Frances Virginia Wikle Whitaker, and her tea room foodservice business. It acknowledges “Frances Virginia,” as the public knew her; and focuses on her career as demonstrative of an under‐theorized form of women’s activism. Her education and proclivity in the once all‐female domain of home economics have important characteristics that are under‐ represented, and often misinterpreted, in today’s discourse. I use a womanist theoretical lens within a historical frame to examine her story as a home economist during the tea room movement of the U. S. feminist movement’s Transition Era, 1920s‐1960s. Together, these elements illuminate the significance of Frances Virginia and her particular form of activism.

La motivación que encarna este estudio es la de describir una de las categorías que aparecen en la portada de los diarios que se basa en las opiniones públicas, las cuales se encuentran representadas con la etiqueta de opinión. El objetivo general busca examinar las diferentes estructuras que puedan presentar los textos abocados a la opinión publica de los países de Brasil, Francia y Perú. Dentro de la lingüística del texto se puede observar que no solo esclarece estructuras de nivel macro o micro, sino que, establece los niveles cognitivos que tiene toda persona al exponer una opinión en una estructura diseñada por componentes sistemáticos, los cuales se logran ver en las categorizaciones de interés poblacional. La presencia de dos o más lenguas en textos audiovisuales simboliza un encuentro intercultural entre realidades sociales y culturales distintas. Asimismo, en los productos audiovisuales, el multilingüismo se ha considerado como el fenómeno tanto lingüístico y social que constituye parte central en la narrativa de la trama por cuestiones identitarias o distintivas. En el contexto de la serie Gentefied (2020), el bilingüismo constituye un rasgo identitario representativo de la comunidad mexicoestadounidense asentada en Estados Unidos. Por ello, la presente investigación pretende analizar la traducción del bilingüismo inglés-español y su impacto en la representación de la identidad mexicoestadounidense en el doblaje al francés de la serie. La investigación es un estudio de caso, debido a que busca explicar y analizar el fenómeno lingüístico y de representación de identidad que se retrata en la serie. Para ello, se recurrirá a las técnicas de recolección de información como el análisis de contenido y el análisis textual contrastivo. La primera permitirá la identificación de las unidades de análisis del texto fuente en spanglish que evidencian rasgos representativos de los personajes; y la segunda, el contraste entre ellas y las unidades de análisis del texto meta en frañol.
The presence of two or more languages in audiovisual texts symbolizes an intercultural encounter between social and cultural realities. Likewise, in audiovisual products, multilingualism has been considered a linguistic and social phenomenon that constitutes a central part in the narrative of the plot due to identity or distinctive reasons. In the context of the series, bilingualism constitutes a representative identity trait of the Mexican-American community settled in the United States. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the translation of English-Spanish bilingualism and its impact on the representation of Mexican-American identity in the French dubbing of the series Gentefied (2020). The research is a case study as it seeks to explain and analyze the linguistic phenomenon and identity representation portrayed in the series. For this purpose, we will resort to data collection techniques such as content analysis and contrastive textual analysis. The former will allow the identification of the units of analysis of the source text in Spanglish that show representative traits of the characters; and the second, the contrast between them and the units of analysis of the target text in Frañol.

Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo descrever de que modo está sendo promovida a aprendizagem de idiomas, mais especificamente de língua francesa, através de aplicativos para smartphones. Os aplicativos, isto é, as aplicações de software possuem uma infinidade de objetivos e são usadas atualmente em diversos contextos, podendo funcionar como um acesso às redes sociais ou como uma plataforma para a aprendizagem. A m-learning (mobile-learning) consiste na aprendizagem por meio de TIMS (Tecnologias da Informação Móveis e Sem fio) representadas pelos tablets e os smartphones. As TIMS surgem para complementar as já conhecidas TIC (Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação), isto é, os computadores, televisores, rádio e etc., e a m-learning para complementar a e-learning (eletronic-learning), a aprendizagem via TIC. Estima-se que hoje existam cerca de 7 bilhões de telefones celulares ativos em todo mundo nas mãos de uma população mundial de 7,1 bilhões e a penetração dos smartphones no Brasil já chega a 64% da população (CONSUMER BAROMETER WITH GOOGLE, 2016). No ensino-aprendizagem de línguas adicionais, a utilização de TIC já é um campo bastante discutido, entretanto, no caso das TIMS, apesar da popularização dos dispositivos móveis, as pesquisas ainda são muito recentes. Contudo, a criação de aplicativos voltados a aprendizagem de idiomas não deixa de aumentar, assim como o seu público. De modo a propiciar um debate sobre o futuro da aprendizagem móvel entre professores de línguas, linguistas e desenvolvedores de aplicativos para dispositivos móveis, este trabalho buscou relatar e analisar alguns dentre os aplicativos mais populares presentes na Google Play Store para dispositivos móveis voltados à aprendizagem de língua francesa. Com a presença de QrCodes e printscreens da tela de um smartphone MotoX, sistema Android 5.1, sete aplicativos que se anunciavam como cursos de francês foram descritos e avaliados tanto pelos fatores ligados à didática quanto aos relativos à interface; são eles o Mondly, Duolingo, Memrise, Mosalingua, Babbel, Busuu e Le Bon Mot. Foram analisadas as atividades presentes na primeira lição de cada aplicativo selecionado, evidenciando e comparando o construto e a metodologia anunciada na Google Play Store ao que realmente é desenvolvido durante a utilização de cada aplicativo. Em um segundo momento, a partir da utilização dos aplicativos, foram analisadas questões ligadas à interface e usabilidade dos aplicativos, isto é, a presença e o funcionamento de recursos de imagem, áudio e vídeo em cada aplicativo, as dificuldades em relação ao uso da plataforma, etc. A partir desta descrição e desta análise minuciosa, pode-se concluir que apesar dos aplicativos serem, de uma forma geral, inovadores quanto às questões ligadas à interface, com uma boa usabilidade, no quesito didático-metodológico se anunciam como seguidores do método comunicativo na Google Play Store, mas utilizam abordagens tradicionais e estruturalistas. Nota-se, desse modo, a persistência de um ensino focado somente na repetição e na aprendizagem de vocabulário que, apesar de acompanhado de plataformas e interfaces bem construídas, não correspondem às necessidades comunicativas dos aprendizes do século XXI.
This research aims to describe how language learning, specifically French, is being promoted through mobile applications.Applications, that is, software that can be installed in MICT (Mobile Information and Communication Technologies), possess lots of goals and are currently used in various contexts. Furthermore, they can function as access to social networks or as platforms for learning. The M-learning (mobile-learning) is the learning through MICT, such as smartphones and tablets. MICT come to complement the already known ICT (Information and Communication Technologies), for instance, desktop computers, televisions and radio, and m-learning to complement e-learning (electronic-learning), i.e. learning via ICT. It is estimated that currently there are about 7 billion active mobile phones worldwide at the hands of a world population of 7.1 billion people, and smartphone penetration within Brazil already reaches 62% of its population (CONSUMER BAROMETER WITH GOOGLE, 2016) In the process of teaching and learning additional languages, the use of ICT is already a widely discussed field. As for MICT, despite the popularization of mobile devices, research is still relatively recent. However, the creation of applications aimed at language learning is increasing, as is its audience. As to endorse a joint debate on the future of mobile learning among language teachers, linguists, and mobile application developers, this work attempted to report and analyze some of the most popular applications on mobile devices related to French-language learning, which are available on Google Play Store. With this aim, a MotoX smartphone with Android 5.1 system was used as a support and seven applications (Mondly, Duolingo, Memrise, Mosalingua, Babbel, Busuu and Le Bon Mot), advertised as French courses, were described and evaluated regarding didactic and interface aspects. QR codes and print screens of the analysis are presented throughout this work to facilitate future reference and queries. The activities in the first lesson of each selected application were analyzed evidencing and comparing the construct and the methodology announced in Google Play Store with what is actually developed during the use of the application. In a second moment, from the use of the applications, questions related to the interface and usability of the applications were analyzed, such as the presence and operation of image, audio and video resources in each application and the difficulties regarding the use of the platform. From this description and analysis, it is noticed that the applications are, in general, innovative in the questions of interface and usability. However, in the didactic-methodological aspect, they are traditional and structuralist, although they were advertised as communicative in the Google Play Store. On theses apps, it is noticed a teaching method focused only on repetition and learning of vocabulary which, although accompanied by well-constructed platforms and interfaces, does not correspond to the communicative needs of the learners of the 21st century.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a substituição parcial da farinha de trigo (FT) por amido resistente de milho (ARM) na elaboração de pão francês pré-assado congelado (PFPAC) e oferecer uma alternativa tecnológica para um produto consumido no desjejum dos brasileiros, com propriedades funcionais devido ao conteúdo de fibra alimentar (FA). Medidas de desempenho de misturas com quatro níveis (0%, 5%, 15% e 30%) de substituição de FT por ARM, sendo 100% o equivalente ao total da mistura, foram obtidas através de alveografia e reofermentografia. Avaliação tecnológica e concentração de amido resistente (AR) de PFPAC produzidos a partir de misturas com cinco níveis de substituição de FT por ARM (0,0%, 7,5%, 10,0%, 12,5% e 15,0%), foram realizadas de acordo com os resultados obtidos nas misturas. A análise foi conduzida ao longo do armazenamento congelado até 46 dias em cinco pontos (1, 8, 15, 25 e 46 dias). O nível de substituição influenciou significativamente o volume específico, a textura do miolo dos pães e a [AR], enquanto que o tempo de armazenamento influenciou a textura do miolo dos pães e a [AR]. O PFPAC produzido a partir da mistura com 10,0% de substituição de FT por ARM apresentou características tecnológicas similares à formulação padrão (0% de substituição) e concentração de 5,5 g de AR por 100 g de produto, sendo considerado, de acordo com a legislação brasileira, um alimento fonte de fibras. Medidas da [AR] nas diferentes etapas do processo produtivo de PFPAC (formulação, pré-assado congelado e pré-assado forneado) indicaram que a [AR] aumentou proporcionalmente em relação ao nível de substituição e redução com a evolução do tempo de armazenamento congelado, apresentando ótimo ajuste (r2 de 0,949) para o modelo quadrático.
The objective of this work was to study the partial substitution of wheat flour (WF) for maize resistant starch (MRS) in the elaboration of frozen par-baked French bread (FPBFB) and offering a technological alternative for a product consumed at Brazilians\' breakfast, presenting functional properties due to dietary fiber (DF) content. Dough performance measurements of mixtures at four levels (0%, 5%, 15% and 30%) of substitution of WF for MRS, being 100% equal to the mixture total, were obtained through alveography and rheofermentography. Technological evaluation and resistant starch (RS) concentration of FPBFB produced from mixtures with five substitution levels of WF for MRS (0.0%, 7.5%, 10.0%, 12.5% and 15.0%), were carried out according to the results obtained in the mixtures. The evaluation was conducted throughout 46 days of frozen storage, in five points (1, 8, 15, 25 and 46 days). Substitution level influenced significantly the specific volume, crumb texture and RS concentration of breads, whereas the frozen storage time influenced the bread crumb texture and RS concentration. The FPBFB produced from the mixture with 10% substitution of WF for MRS presented similar technological characteristics to the standard formulation (0% substitution) and RS concentration of 5.5 g per 100 g of product, being considered, according to Brazilian Legislation, a fiber-source foodstuff. Measures of RS concentration conducted in different bread production steps (formulation, frozen par-baked bread and par-baked bread fully baked), indicated that the RS concentration increased proportionally to the substitution level and reduced as the frozen storage time increased, presenting good adjustment (r2 of 0.949) to the quadratic model.

Abstract:
Alien invasive species pose a great threat to ecosystems and human communities (Richardson & van Wilgen 2004; Hobbs & Humphries 1995). On private lands, there is a need to find institutional, administrative and scientific responses to the alien plant problem that operate beyond the scale imposed by property boundaries (Slocombe 1998; Grumbine 1994). One such response is the development and support of institutions, such as the St Francis Conservancy, that foster cross-boundary management of landscapes (Hurley et al. 2002). This study seeks to promote collective decision-making and collaborative management by private landowners through the development of a resource allocation system for the control of alien invasive plants on the St Francis Conservancy. The conservancy is located in the south-eastern lowlands of the Cape Floristic Region, between the villages of Cape St Francis and Oyster Bay, and is comprised of the properties of multiple landowners. Mutliple Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) techniques were integrated to provide a spatially explicit resource allocation system that considered environmental, social and economic concerns. The MCDA technique selected for use was the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). This technique has a record of providing robust, defensible decisions and enabled the resource allocation decision-problem to be decomposed into a hierarchy of objectives, criteria and indicators. Stakeholders participated in the development of the resource allocation system, especially through providing input into the determination of the relative importance of criteria and indicators through the assignment of weights. Various weighting scenarios were presented and these were interpreted into an ii implementation plan. The costs and effort required to clear alien plants were estimated, and obstacles facing the implementation of the plan were identified.

In recent years, protected areas have come under pressure due to the budget cuts of government. As a result, national parks have had to devise strategies by means of which they are able to generate additional revenue, in order to remain competitive. Such a strategy is the introduction of public-private partnerships, which allows the private sector to operate certain lodging facilities, restaurants and shops within parks. SANParks introduced their commercialization strategy in 2000 and overall it has been a success. However, despite earning much needed revenue; there are many complaints from tourists regarding the food and beverage concessions. Research regarding travel food consumption is in its infancy and is lacking in social science research. The importance of travel dining cannot be understated as it constitutes approximately 25% of tourist expenditure and as such contributes to the economic receipts of a destination. The importance of understanding the wants and needs of tourists with reference to food and beverage will enable destinations to realise the full economic potential of the tourism experience. It has been postulated that food consumption no longer forms part of the ‘supporting’ experience but is in fact a ‘peak’ tourist experience and as such can impair the total tourist experience if tourists are not satisfied with food and beverage consumption at a destination. SANParks does not offer a wide variety of food and beverage facilities and it is of utmost importance that the facilities that are available, cater to the requirements of tourists. The purpose of this study was to construct a model for concessionaire food and beverage operations at SANParks. This was done by targeting tourists who visit SANParks and inquiring as to their preferences with regard to restaurants and shop facilities. The questionnaire for the study was posted on SANParks’ website for a period of three weeks and consisted of four sections, namely a demographic section, a section related to food service brands, a section regarding restaurants and the last section regarding shop facilities. The data was analysed to provide information needed to construct a model for concessionaire food and beverage operations in SANParks. Data provided a demographic profile of tourists to SANParks, factors analysis provided restaurant and take-away factors, ANOVA and t-tests allowed comparisons of factors with demographics and lastly structural equation modelling which provided goodness of fit indices for the proposed model.

Functionalized metal nanoparticles are supramolecular assemblies that are gaining increasing attention in biomedicine due to their broad-spectrum applicability. In this context, understanding the nano-biointerface is critical for implementing nanoparticles into medical practices, yet the structure-function relation of functionalized metal nanoparticles remains puzzling. This work discusses the design of metal nanoparticles with targeted applications from three focal points: structural modeling, method development, and biomolecular interactions. First, the NanoModeler webserver is introduced for the standardized building and parametrizing of metal nanoparticles for simulations at atomistic and coarse-grained resolutions. Second, a theoretical model is formulated to characterize the surface of charged nanoparticles, which, when combined with mesoscale simulations, clarifies the fundamental principles that enable colloidal stability at physiological conditions. Third, atomistic and coarse-grained simulations were combined to describe, at the molecular level, the non- disruptive cellular permeabilization induced by membranotropic nanoparticles to facilitate intracellular cargo delivery. The multilayered work presented here comprehends new online tools, physics-based methods, and molecular insights that expand our understanding of the structure-function relation in metal nanoparticles and contribute to the design of safe and effective nanoparticle-based therapeutic agents.

Abstract:

James Francis Burke (1923-1981) was one of the most renowned cornet soloists of the Twentieth Century. Despite having no use of his right arm, the result of suffering an injury at birth, Burke learned to play the cornet at an early age and began to perform solos for movies and radio shows by the age of 11. He is remembered primarily as the Cornet Soloist of the Goldman Band, a position he held for 32 years (1943-1975). Burke also performed extensively with the Baltimore Symphony, Radio City Music Hall, and Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestras and held teaching positions at the Peabody Conservatory (Baltimore, MD), Ithaca College (NY), Hofstra University (NY), and the University of Bridgeport (CT). During his lifetime Burke performed a number of cornet solos with band accompaniment and composed solos that he performed with the Goldman Band and others including Danza Alegre, The Magic Trumpet, Amourette, Hocus Polka, Jimala Beguine, Joneta, Jolene, and Zorita. Of these compositions, only Zorita is unpublished.

The purpose of this study was to transcribe the accompaniment for Burke's cornet solo, Zorita (c. 1968) for brass quintet. A secondary purpose of this study was to present a brief biographical sketch about Burke to provide historical context and background for the solo. A brief discussion of the work is included in this document, although complete analysis was beyond the scope of this study as was a complete biography of Burke.

The transcribed edition of the solo was created by consulting unpublished scores of Zorita and a recording of the solo performed by Burke. The original cornet solo remained intact and is presented with the transcribed brass quintet accompaniment. The accompaniment was scored for the traditional brass quintet instrumentation: two trumpets, horn, trombone, and tuba. This transcription, therefore, requires an additional cornet performer to be the soloist. Appropriate for concert performance by advanced students, Zorita balances bel canto melodies with highly technical scalar passages and extended sections of multiple articulation.

Determina cómo se manifiesta las actitudes democráticas en las relaciones socioacadémicas de los estudiantes de inglés y francés de pre-grado, en la Universidad Nacional de Educación Enrique Guzmán y Valle, en el 2012. Es un estudio aplicado a la educación basándose en la descripción y exposición sustantiva, cuantitativa y cualitativa. La investigación hace uso del método descriptivo y diseño no experimental transversal, con los cuales se ha precisado las expresiones de las actitudes democráticas en una muestra censal basada en 90 estudiantes. La información es recopilada en dos cuestionarios en la forma de escalas de Likert, el primero sobre actitudes democráticas, y el segundo acerca de relaciones socioacadémicas; también en un focus group sobre tolerancia y disposición a escuchar al otro. Concluye que existe una manifestación positiva, considerable y representativa de las actitudes democráticas en las relaciones socio académicas de los estudiantes de inglés y francés encuestados.
