Full textIn the past, “Francophonie” spelled with a capital “F”, was used to signify the union between France and its ancient colonies, and “francophonie”, with a small “f”, meant sharing the French language and the project of preserving it. The concepts and objectives behind these two perceptions are currently undergoing "disruption".Lebanon, on which the context of this study revolves, is considered as the most important French-speaking country in the region and among Arab countries, excluding North Africa. The idea of a global culture is widespread in the Lebanese society, whether in the cities or the villages, which are mostly modernized.Our study focuses on both “Francophonie” and “francophonie” in terms of information and communication technologies, their tools of action, their activity in globalization and their objectives. Full textThe present research bears upon representations of French language and culture in Moldavia. It was performed based on a corpus collected with Moldavian learners, in the period of February/March 2005. Within the framework of argumentative semantics, notably semantics of the argumentatifs possible, discourse analysis, lexicography, and the SPAD software are solicited to analyze the meaning of the words “French-speaking communities”, “Francophilia”, “French speaker”. The aim of this study is to understand how learners appropriate the values of these universal concepts, and to determine the argumentative processes which intervene in discourse when representing the “French-speaking world”, the “French-speaking communities” and the “French-speaking identity”. This work is concerned with the discursive production and its semantic feature by means of demonstrating that it constructs a French-speaking identity around the notions of “French-speaking world”, “Francophilia” and “Opportunist”. The results obtained illustrate a systematic association of the “French-speaking communities” with the notion of “success” and that the normalization of discourse contributes to the discursive construction of the French-speaking communities

Full textThe doctoral thesis carried out is based on francophonie discourse in the XXIth century, both from and about francophonie. This is a period in which official Francophonie arguments are based on the French republican model, as well as the values associated with it, which is obliged to renew itself within the present context whereby cultural identities are torn between globalisation and ethnicisation. For the purposes of the present research the term f(F)rancophonie shall be defined as the weaving of problematic and contradictory links, which are sources of symbolic violence, between francophonie, in terms of speakers as a whole, and institutional Francophonie. f(F)rancophonie discourse reveals the existence of political manipulation of language and culture through different ideological models of society. The multidisciplinary approach of the present investigation has enabled the updating of the problematical extension of cultural imperialism at work in the construction of French influence policy (soft power), notably thanks to discourse analysis and postcolonial thought theoretical tools. Indeed the francocentered institutional system provides pragmatic power to the Francophonie discursive strategy and to its rhetoric of struggle, influence and universalism against the anglo-american anti-model. At times the new cultural diversity paradigm struggles to conceal the conception of a French language which is the bearer of universalisation of one single cultural and national identity. The comment of language and literature through institutions sheds light on literary f(F)rancophonie discourse within which the francophone writer often appears obliged to compose with the colonial heritage of the French language which is haloed with prestige. Lastly the present analysis of francophone literary theories and studies examines the positions of writers in view of the interrelation between the French center and its peripheries

Full textFrancophone authors often live and write in plurilingual contexts. Reflections about language and the way to articulate the relationship between language and literature are thus very frequent in Francophone literature while treating the identity issue. Complex and controversial relationships among languages in contact give birth to “linguistic overconscoiusness” (surconscience linguistique- Gauvin 1997), which is common in Francophone literature, even if it can have different forms. We take into consideration four novels originitaing from four different Francophone areas: Les Soleils des Indépendance by Kourouma, Texaco by Chamoiseau, Les Belles-soeurs by Tremblay, and Jour de silence à Tanger by Ben Jelloun. This study aims to investigate in which way it is possible to translate different sociolinguistic relations into Italian. Difficulties and strategies used by the Italian translators have been analyzed thanks to a model of analysis taking into account various factors: the context of novel creation; the representation of the francophone novel in the target culture; the connotative and denotative meanings of diatopic words and authorial neologisms; formal techniques of translation. We try to understand which image, possibly exotic, has been built in order to catch the attention of the Italian reader, and by which techniques translators succeed in transposing meanings linked to a non standard language. Finally, this dissertation relates studies in Francophony to research on translation

Full textIn developing countries millions of small producers, artisans and casual employees are in precarious situations. Alone and unorganized, they are helpless and dependent on prevailing local authorities, intermediate and fluctuations in commodity prices set in New York or London. The heightened global competition and the globalization of trade as it is implemented leave no leeway for these small structures. These developments, combined with internal difficulties further exacerbate inequalities and highlight insecurity and poverty in which s' sink more these small producers craftsman and employees because they do not have the means and their structures to develop strategies for medium and long term, including the diversification of production, investment and improved production techniques.In this research we try to show that the contribution of fair trade to sustainable development Francophonie is considerable. A central problem can be defined as follows: What are the ways of development of fair trade and how it enables sustainable development Francophonie?This research may also help to better understand some logical decision-makers and actors in Francophonie interested in fair trade and sustainable development. Full textThe unfolding interplay in recent times of two cultural concepts, Negritude and Francophonie, is the subject of our study which is both historical and a synthesis, having as leading authors, Leopold Sedar Senghor, Aime Cesaire and Leon-Gontran Dramas. Besides these French and Negro-African poets, there are other French and francophone elder statesmen who have worked towards promoting the values of cultural hybrid. These include French presidents Charles de Gaulle, Giscard d’Estaing, François Mitterrand, Jacques Chirac, African heads of State, notably Hamani Diori (Niger), Habib Bourguiba (Tunisia), Canadian and Quebecois prime ministers: P.E Trudeau, Brian Mulroney, Robert Bourassa, Hatsfield, Jean-Jacques Bertrand, two Secretaries general of the Francophonie, Boutros Boutros-Ghali, and Abdou Diouf, as well as European and African intellectuals such as Michel Tetu, Jean-Marc Leger, Andre Malraux, Alain Decaux, Xavier Deniau, Cyrille Sagbo. Major texts used for this thesis include, collection of poems, essays and plays produced by the Negritude school: Leopold Sedar Senghor, Aime Cesaire, and Leon-Gontran Damas, essays and speeches on Francophonie, as well as lots of critical works by authors from across the globe. The major focus of our thesis centers on the concern expressed by francophone peoples in different regions of the world about their cultural and linguistic interests and aspirations which are often marginalized or ignored within the global French family, making lots of European and African critics to question the rationale for Negritude and Francophonie in the 21st century

Full textThe idea of francophony (“ la Ffrancophonie”) is linked with many questions and disciplines and there seem to be no limits to its literary, linguistic, political or organisational applications. The main object of this thesis is therefore to try and define it as accurately as possible while taking into account its multiple dimensions, from the word itself through the symbolism of the concept to the institution. With this –widened- definition as a starting point,” francophony” (“la francophonie”) can be considered as an object of research in communication and information sciences, as well as a subject that has its own existence in the eyes of the French media. The analysis of the media coverage of “francophony” in the French national daily newspapers and TV news rests on the notion of “event” and on a semiotic study of the image It allows to narrow a many-sided phenomenon down to a single homogeneous one by reducing it to its biennal event- the Francophonie Summit. The thesis then focuses on the agents of “francophony” (individuals, artists or institutions) as they are presented in the media: on what is at stake, on how conflicting forces and alliances appear and fluctuate according to a structural semiotic logic. Progressively, the question of “francophony” meets with that of the French identity, and the thesis ends on the ambiguous aspect of their connection

Full textBy analyzing American strategies in Africa in general and in French West Africa in particular, the present study intends to demonstrate that, contrary to all expectations, the United States were in fact very much interested in the Francophonie as an institution and that, even if indirectly, they contributed to its conception and creation. The political context of the end of the 60s seems to have dictated such a position. As they got more and more involved in Vietnam, the Americans felt the need to have their hands free and therefore could not cope with ills of Africa, where they still had considerable economic and commercial interests. In this regard, the Francophonie posed absolutely no threat, apart from that of seeing France strengthen the influence it already had on the continent. The risk was thus limited and it was well worth securing the place of French-speaking African countries on the right side of the iron curtain, by way of an organization largely dominated by Western powers such as France and Canada. At the crossroads of specific and common interest, the emergence of this structure on the international scene pushed the United States to move past their long-time rivalry with France and to include the Francophonie in their plans in French Africa. In this dissertation, we offer a new outlook on the development of the Francophonie at the end of the 1960s by going beyond the traditional trio of France-Africa-Canada and giving it a broader scope. This in turn allows us to speak of the rise of the Francophonie not merely as the birth of yet another regional organization, but as a creation with a truly international vocation in an era of world “détente”

Full textAs we know, the colonial period has produced a complex linguistic situation which also caused heavy social cultural implications in French speaking countries in black Africa, especially in Gabon. Overall, we observe a surperimposition phenomenon of languages on the hand French set as the language of power and prestige at the disposal of elites and civil servants, on the other African languages often reduced to a less laudatory status, as indigenous dialects not proper to teaching and acquiring scientific acquaintances. The purpose of this work is to help us understand and know, the speaking and promotion of French around the world as a cultural force and a kinetic energy in the building up of a Gabonese nation that is in motion since its independence in 1960. Our main purpose isn’t to justify the speaking and promotion of French around the world but to show the contribution it has brought to the building up of a friendly and prosper Gabon ever since the French language arrived on the Gabonese soil

Full textIn the field of francophone literature, there are currently about twenty French-speaking Chinese authors : Cheng Ki-Tong, Sheng Cheng, Cheng Ching, Francois Cheng, Gao Xingjian, Shen Dali, Ya Ding, Dai Sijie, Ying Chen, Wei Wei, Shan Sa, and Ling Xi... These writers circulate in different cultures, use two languages, and consequently their writing mixes a Chinese color with a Western one. Through their experiences, we note that some of them have developed a double artistic practice, in accordance with their cultural identity, which is now dual. They thus build not only a bridge between two languages and two cultures, but also a bridge between different media or artistic supports (novelistic and film or pictorial). How has Chinese francophone literature developped itself ? And how can we understand the novelistic writing and the artistic practice of the French-speaking Chinese authors ? Focused on French-speaking Chinese authors and their works, our research formulates a hypothesis about the articulation between interculturality and intermediality within the Chinese Francophonie

Full textThe objective of this research is to grasp the presence and the composition of the Francophonie in the Egyptian sociolinguistic landscape in general, and particularly in Cairo, from a descriptive point of view. In order to identify and situate our research problematic, we mainly relied on sociolinguistics as a discipline; ethnography, content analysis, and questionnaire as tools. Our ethnographic research has been extended on two levels: a qualitative study of Korba Square store signs and semi-structured interviews. By using content analysis, we studied: two French-speaking Egyptian Facebook groups; French-language programming of the Egyptian channel Nile TV International; and some TV advertisements referring to the French culture, broadcasted on Egyptian local channels. An online questionnaire is a complementary tool to question the perception of the Francophonie by three linguistic groups in Egypt: Arabophones, Anglophones and Francophones. Results yielded that the Francophonie still exists in Egypt, at different levels. Moreover, it is weighted by what Bourdieu called "symbolic capital". Thus, the Francophonie is a capital in this sense where images, representations, etc. are accumulated over time, and passed on to generations. However, the Egyptian Francophonie seems to meet obstacles at three levels. At the level of the speakers, results showed contradiction between attitudes and practices ; the lack of a real national institutional strategy capable of investing in the Francophonie; the third level is related to the fact that France, solely and continuously, plays the role of the state defender of the French language

Full textThe history of the spread of French in China finds itself at the intersection of multiple productive areas of research. To cite only the most important of them, consider the history of the opening-up of China, the overseas cultural action of France and the history of cultural relations. For some time now, these areas of research have been witnessing a true growth of strength within the field of international studies. As such, the francophony in China represents an area of inquiry which could contribute to enriching other branches of International Studies, which has traditionally been focused on the political and economic dimensions and on the nations in a position of power. The spread of French in China is the fruit of interaction between Chinese and French initiatives. Granted, the first French programs were created by French missionaries in the middle of the 19th century. Nevertheless, initiatives on the part of Chinese multiplied and soon made their importance felt. The French language had actually been bound up with the dream of Chinese of achieving national revival across the fields of military, economy, politics and culture. Indeed, highly noteworthy is the fact that thanks to the efforts of Chinese, higher education programs taught in French were made available as early as the beginning of the 20th century – the institution in question was Tongwen guan [Governmental School of Foreign Languages], which in its turn was merged into Jingshi Daxuetang [Imperial Capital University, predecessor of Peking University] in Beijing in 1902. Benefitting from a generally favorable environment in China, French cultural action kept renewing itself. Spanning 100 years without interruption over the period 1849-1949, it offered both religious and non-religious programs, restricted, however, almost entirely to primary and secondary education. After 1949 however, largely because of cold war and the Cultural Revolution gripping China in 1966-1975, such French initiatives were absent for several decades and did not make their come-back until the opening-up policy of China at the end of the 1970s. Henceforth, on the basis of reciprocity and leveraging the attractive force of France to Chinese college students, the French authorities have been deepening ties with China. At the same time, they rely heavily on l’Alliance Française, which has been expanding rapidly in China thanks to both its ability of adapting to local circumstances and the diversification of the overseas study destinations of Chinese college students

Full textThis doctoral thesis explores literature written in French by non-native authors who learned the language of their writing relatively late. Among this literature, which I propose referring to as “translingual francophone literature”, I focus on work which is both representative and problematic of Hungarian-Swiss writer Agota Kristof. While the conceptualization of translingual francophone literature sheds new light on Kristof’s oeuvre, the single author analysis also allows the concept to be tested.In the first part of my work, I describe the elements of translingual Francophone poetics. I contend that translingual francophone writers share several formal choices, as well as institutional constraints; I then analyze the representations of languages and translation in their work, which work as rival positions in the translingual discursive space. Lastly I examine their narratives in novel and autobiography, whose frequent topics show their common intentions and the variety of literary solutions.In the second part of the thesis, I consider the work of Agota Kristof. Translingual francophone literature will not be an explanatory principle, but the starting point of the investigation. Through this lens I will examine the author’s isolation strategy in the French literary field and in the translingual discursive space, her trajectory from Hungarian poetry to French novel through self-translation and theater, her representation of languages as separate, non-communicating entities, the importance of the theme of the border in her plays and novels and the construction of an “illiterate writing” through her mature work

Full textThis thesis is part of multidisciplinary comparative studies, combining literature with another tool of artistic expression which is photography. Comparative approaches have in fact contributed to the emergence of exclusive ideas and axes of analysis that the traditional analysis, which is strictly limited to the work, would not have made it possible to see. Hence, the very recent birth of the general and comparative literature as a distinct discipline. Moreover, it allows the opening of significant breaches on other disciplines, which helps to the establishment of a multidisciplinary dialogue that takes place at the heart of the literature. The latter becomes able to combine in a comparative approach painting, cinema and even photography. This thesis aims to establish a dialogue between the francophone Maghreb’s literature and photography. Based on a corpus drawn mainly from contemporary francophone Maghreb’s literature, we try to elucidate the subtlety of this dialogue. Thus, photography has upset the relationship to the image in the Maghreb’s tradition. Several other works affiliated to this postcolonial literature show photographic works that are able to testify on a new relation to the image, as can be seen in particular in the works of Leïla Sebbar (Mes Algéries en France, for example), or in the writings of Mohamed Dib who returns to his places of memory such as photography and writing (Tlemcen, ou les lieux de l’écriture). The relation to the image is very present in these texts: we read testimonies that are carried out through realistic descriptions of space and written scenes, orchestrated by a fiction that seems to respect the different diegetic functions of a novel. Speaking of this new relationship between text and image, we first allude to the text / archive link. Photography will then be considered as an "archive" that the Francophone novelist reinvests in a contemporary narrative. Here we touch on the "generating" function of photography and we try to answer questions such as: which photography generated such text? What techniques are used by the author to stage it in his text? The postcolonial literature acquires a considerable notoriety. Still using the language of the colonist, it becomes a genre in its own right which has its place in the literary and artistic landscape. Photography intersperses these works intuitively, with the aim of keeping a trace, an imprint of a stormy and turbulent past. Three authors, three literary universes with their divergences and their convergences. Through an intersemiotic approach, we explain the poetics of photoliterature in Rachid Boudjedra's Le Démantèlement, Dib’s L’Incendie and Tlemcen ou les lieux de l’écriture and Journal de mes Algéries en France and La Jeune fille au balcon of Leila sebbar. Photography is no longer a simple medium to which these authors resort to illustrate their texts. It is tattooed indelibly in its way of writing, speaking and being. The post-colonial Maghreb’s writer is thus a scriptural photographer. He reinvests the same eye that has seen, watched and witnessed a liberation war in a writing where the gaze is at the center of everything. Even when it is not explicitly a question of photography, the latter can be seen in one way or another through the staging of spaces, characters (when it comes to fiction) and related facts. In this sense, the text goes beyond the simple descriptive understanding to embrace an ekphrastic writing in which the author seems to describe the different components of a cliché that he has under his eyes and which he gives us to see through his words

Full textJustice is a fundamental attribute of modern States. In a democratic society, itguarantees the safeguard of the standard-setting framework as well as the protection ofrights. An independent and effective justice is a symbol of the rule of law. It illustrates theseparation of powers and establishes the primacy of law. But the efficiency of any judicialsystem depends on the nature and the extent of the resources at its disposal. Yet, inmany Francophone countries, the judicial system faces many weaknesses, sometimesrelated to the avatars of democratic stabilisation processes, sometimes to more fragilepost-crisis situations. So the question of the capacity development of the judicialinstitutions arises. For thirty years, the International Organization of La Francophonie(OIF) has entered the legal and judicial cooperation field on this basis. By including thepromotion of democracy at the heart of its political action, the OIF has indeed made strongcommitments and developed programs aimed at accompanying its member States in thecapacity development of their justice systems, thanks to its institutional networks. Thiscommitment can be seen in several statements of the Organization. It demonstrates thewill of the Francophone States to anchor their relationships in a cooperation framework,dedicated to the protection of fundamental rights and the regulation of majorities’ powers.Today, justice is consequently established as a priority in Francophone concerns. It isentered in both national and international level and in its transitional dimension

Full textThis thesis deals with the historical and current role of the Francophonie in the resolution of conflicts. The challenge is to study the contribution of the international organization of the Francophonie in the conflict resolution processes that shake the Francophone space, which has become a theater of civil war and ethnic-religious warfare, weakening economic development And social development of several countries, especially those of French-speaking Africa. Having become a key player on the international scene, the international organization of the French-speaking world, which includes all the French-speaking states, decides to contribute actively to resolving conflicts. From a methodological point of view, this thesis is based on an evolutionary approach, focusing on the particularity of the Francophone approach in peacekeeping operations. In the first part, it focuses on the preventive approach of the OIF taking into account the actions undertaken by this organization to avoid conflicts and strengthen the culture of peace and democratic governance. This section highlights the OIF's prevention policy, which is based on the desire to promote democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights, which is considered the best strategy for resolving conflicts. The thesis sets out the strategy adopted by the International Organization of la Francophonie to accompany states in promoting a culture of peace, respect for democracy, the rule of law and good governance, which are important levers for ensuring security And the stability of a country. It also describes the specificity of the Francophone approach to conflict resolution, which is based on the establishment of strong democratic institutions aimed at ensuring peace, social justice and the fight against corruption, which are Fight against insecurity and poverty. Full textThis study is based on a corpus of interactions recorded during experience working in a Chinese company involve in public works and established in Gabon, in which Chinese employees and their Gabonese partners are using French language in their professional relationships. We will consider links between language practices and social practices related to commercial negotiations connected to the company’s activities, according to the discursive strategies perspectives. Firstly, we will analyse strategies produced by the configuration of the different variety of languages and related communication’s norms, used by Chinese employees having learned French in Africa with their Gabonese partners. Secondly, the study will focus on the discursive register produced by relationships between a Chinese employee and his Gabonese partner, and strategies related to discursive and pre-discursive phenomena, which appears in interactions between interpreters/translators of the Chinese company and their partners. Thirdly, we will consider the interpretation situations and study the influence of interactional and discursive phenomena on the translation for non-French speaker members of the executive staff and their partners, particularly in the public works ministry. This research uses different kind of sciences of language movement (variationism, interactional linguistic, discourse analyses) to describe new language practices appearing in the French speaking countries of Africa, and to consider these practices as social acts, involved in sino-african business relationships

Full textMy thesis addresses Vietnam’s request to enforce its cooperation with African countries, which at present is still modest despite its growing interest there. Vietnam finds itself in a context of accelerated globalization with the emergence of both capitalism and English language. On the international scene, new dynamics are observed, such as the strong economic growth of Southern countries like China, India and Brazil, and their remarkable cooperation with African countries. At the core of this process, what distinguishes Vietnam from other South-South cooperation is that it shares with Africa the Francophonie, a political and cultural organization gathering as of 2016, 80 States and governments who share French as a language.Their francophone bond was constructed through a common history linked to decolonization and to the fact of being both Third World countries. My work answers the following question: does Francophonie, as a cultural political construct, contribute to promote the cooperation between Vietnam and Africa, particularly in the economic sector? I use Max Weber and Jean Baeschler’s ideas on the origins of capitalism in order to demonstrate the potential and current reality of the Francophone element present in the cooperation between Vietnam and Africa before proposing Vietnam’s ‘Francophone’ strategy aiming at strengthening its role in Africa. It is precisely to see how African fiction productions of the last sixty years represent the situation of the intellectual in African society, through its developments and prospects. What French-language African novel role has historically devoted to the character of the intellectual and what are the new modes of action and ideas productions today contribute to strengthening the role? At the time, Africa, public speaking increasingly of the bankruptcy or the "death of the African intellectual," we found it necessary to question the novel on this subject, from a kind analytical panorama from 1950 to the 2010s, to observe how the African literary fiction has long represented the figure of the intellectual representation and how this has evolved over the past decades. Full textThe uncertainties of the liberal globalization in the international relations, reinforced prudence and the reserve in the French-speaking opinion widespread on the five continents and structured in a great geo-cultural unit today composed of 70 countries. That’s the political "Francophonie". It’s revealed like the pole of diversity, the antidote of the unique thinking. It’s "another globalization", another way of managing the international relations, respectful of the dialectic of identity and otherness. One will name that, for lack of another name, "the Francophone diplomacy": diplomacy of the rupture with the opposition to progress in what it adapts to the great historical changes. Underlain by an affirmed political will, it has the assets which are a first in geo-cultural international organisations history. The cultural diversity, the dialogue of the cultures and solidarity set up in other principles of the diplomatic Right concern a prowess that one must with the French-speaking diplomatic strategy, thus giving to the Francophonie position of a specific and useful influence in globalization. Position that consists in showing itself as a community of values, but much more, in playing the function of the standardized and “unipolar” view counterweight of uncontrolled globalization. "Francophone diplomacy" is not a dream. Full textThe dissertation argues that the creation of institutional Francophonie in 1970 influences the French-language African literature through the creation and financing of literary prizes. These francophone prizes have and continue to play an important role in granting access to recognition: in part determining what is published, affecting their reception, and influencing the categories used to classify these texts and authors. Drawing on archival research, interviews, ethnographic observation of awards ceremonies, and a database of over 300 prizes, the dissertation shows how the supranational institution of la Francophonie has maintained since the 1970s a circuit of literary recognition for almost exclusively Sub-Saharan African authors. The institution promotes and generates the production of African literature while at the same time imposing constraints. For many years the circuit privileged theatre and the short story over other genres and tends even today to depoliticize or repoliticize prized texts. Ultimately, the dissertation shows how literary prizes do the imaginative work of inscribing African literature into this category of “francophone”. By demonstrating how literature and politics mutually affect one another, the dissertation points to the need for greater scholarly attention to the role played by state institutions in elaborating enduring aesthetic standards and criteria of literary value

Full textThe problem on the reality or the fiction of the moral personality, very former, was cut cut in favour of a fiction of the legal personality of the international organizations: the legal personality of an international organization is based, exclusively, by a legal act having value of treaty strictly speaking. The international organization of the Francophonie appears in subject derived of the international law. However, his process of creation deviated from classic standards without being innovative or more effective retruning, on the contrary, the determination of his uncertain legal personnality. Indeed, his creation, or more exactly the appearance of the naming in preceded an officilization, by a document (Charter of the Francophonie adopted in Antananarivo on november 23rd, 2005) the binding character of wich is debatable, and who cannot be perceived as a real constituent treaty of an international organization. Nevertheless, the international organization of Francophonie presents al1 the caracteristics of the international organizations created according to a classic conventional procedure. From then on, the unsatisfactory result of the legal fiction entails an appeal to the concrete reality, notably to the characteristics and to the objective functions which realize it. It is in this way that the law will seize effectively the legal status of the international organization of the Francophonie according to a teleologique interpretation of the objective characteristics, established by the International Court of justice to determine the international legal personality of the UNO

Full textThis thesis attempts a description of french in Madagascar, this language being considered as a "peripheric" variety of french among different varieties of french in this country. It tries to elucidate the status and legitimity of this variety. In a historic chapter, the author shows how, in a pre-colonial and colonial context, semiotic material from a foreign language has been introduced from various quarters, and how and official discourse has been introduced from various quarters, and how an official discourse has been diffused on this language, along "glottophagic" lines. This discourse valued the variety taught in schools, and brought it to existence, while it stifled the other regional variety to inexistence. Today, the french spoken by the adepts of the standard variety dominates symbolically, not only over the popular variety of french, but over the madagascan language itself. This diglossic ideology is still in force in the country. The synchronic part of this thesis describes the diglossic situation from both an internal and external linguistic point of view. The linguistic description throws light on the evolutionary trends of the system of french in a context in which it was partially withdrawn from the influence of the central norm, at the same time it was appropriated by the local speakers. In conclusion, the author proposes a model of the situation of french in Madagascar and a reflexion on the criteria which can be used to define forms of regional french, as well as of what can be called the "southern french-speaking community"

The country enjoys very strong secular relations with France that have been consolidated through the spreading of the French language by missionaries and by the french mandate. The richness of the French-speaking policy in Lebanon can be seen by the importance given to French taught as a second language in Lebanese schools and universities and by the presence of French institutes and cultural centres. The Lebanese French-speaking community is kept alive thanks to the press, books and Lebanon audiovisual means of communication. Nowadays, the French language suffers from problems of a socio-curricular nature which are directly related to the Lebanese society and the advance of the English-speaking world. However, the French-world as experienced currently in Lebanon remains fairly strongly anchored in the community and will not be easily uprooted by another foreign language

Full textThis research work focuses on seven novelists (one of whom is a graphic novelist), of Iranian origin who chose to go into exile in France and adopt French as their language of expression : Fariba Hachtroudi (b. 1951), Nahal Tajadod (b. 1960), Sorour Kasmaï (b. 1962), Chahdortt Djavann (b. 1967), Négar Djavadi (b. 1969), Naïri Nahapétian (b. 1970) and Marjane Satrapi (b. 1969). These writers have some characteristics in common : all are bicultural, know both the Persian and French languages perfectly and address the same themes. Although their ages and experiences differ, they write about women and their main characters are almost always women. This characteristic is exceptional and recent (since 2000) in Francophone literature emanating from emigration. Our Francophone novelists of Iranian origin begin to talk about Iran and its history through a form of fiction that remains very close to reality in order to address major current issues : the oppression installed in Iran since 1979, the dictatorial climate of the mullahs'regime, its consequences on people's lives and particularly on the lives of women who are more affected by it.The first part focuses on the personal and common paths that lead Iranian women to become French novelists. The second part proposes an analysis of the French and Persian cultural models to which novels in search of a distinctive style obey. The third part is a study of the way these authors use the novelistic structure and sometimes create a new form of historical fiction. The fourth part is dedicated to the reception of this literature in France as well as in Iran and in other Muslim countries

Also, faced with the explosion of internal conflicts, debates on security have evolved considerably these last years leading to the recognition and affirmation of human security in international law. This situation will have some impact on the international system and debates on conflict prevention at the turn of the millenium. As a political and cultural organization, La Francophonie integrates this new conception of security into its structural conflict prevention actions, the purpose of which is to act on the root causes of conflict by working primarily to build the rule of law in the service of civilian populations. The African Francophone area is particularly concerned by this extremely violent political conflict, which justifies the legitimacy of the International Organization of La Francophonie in this area. However, can it be an innovative actor of prevention in front of the multitude of actors who multiply the interventions on the continent and have more means of actions ? Does it have the capacity to bring together all of its Member States on topics of common interest and particularly on prevention? Are it's programs a simple accompaniment of international programs, or a useful and relevant complement? So many questions that we will try to provide answers throughout this research

Has there been any post-event fallout? How and why the sport is created in the collective imagination? Does it play a particular role? Is it used for political purposes, in order to achieve national cohesion or extend sectarian and political conflicts? The first part of our thesis decrypts, to a great extent, the mechanisms of the organization of the Francophone Games in Beirut. It will encompass the framework, context and some of the event component in details. The second part will cover the social practice of sports and the school as a place of transmission. It is structured around a survey conducted among a thousand Lebanese people. It will attempt to rebuild the array in order to provide answers. The third chapter proposes to put into perspective the collected data regarding sport events and social practice. Then we shall discuss the issues of structuring the Lebanese sport and sport nationalism

Full textThis work at the intersection of three fields of study—language sciences, discourse analysis, and training course design—interrogates the notion of the Francophone project in its institutional context at the beginning of this century. Is it possible to unite around a collective project the sizeable political community belonging to the International Francophone Organization (l’Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie—the OIF)? To answer this question, this thesis analyzes speeches given by heads of state and government during the international summit meetings of the OIF. More specifically the thesis focuses on the speeches made at the summits hosted in Bucharest (2006) and Quebec (2008), a pivotal moment in which the OIF has the necessary legitimacy to initiate a new Francophone dynamic. The work proceeds in three distinct phases. First, it attempts to articulate the notions of “Francophonie”, discourse, and project by placing them in the conceptual fields outlined in the relevant literature. Second, the thesis identifies four axes, sources of legitimacy that allow the specification of the Francophone project. The notions of governance, citizenship, the employment of new technologies, and the affirmation of a project of living together allow for the definition of an expected horizon contributing to the characterization of the Francophone dynamic. Finally, in the third phase, the work attempts to analyze the connections between the framework political discourse that initiates the project and the conditions of its execution. In this regard the work insists on the role of French teachers, the essential link in fostering dialogue between populations and institutions, and who thus have a particular responsibility. In the end this thesis tries to demonstrate that today Francophone project must be constructed through a constantly renewed dialogue between the needs voiced in the field and the political authorities capable of establishing a space of feasibility for the project

Full textThe French languages are now under the yoke of universality while being threatened. They commit to new questions that correspond to the changing world. Indeed, they help to enhance the link between the origins and the transformation of ideas within the "Francophonie" over generations. There is no doubt that the proliferation of influences and the ubiquity of contact with the Other, in the space of globalization, change their relationship with their Francophone identities. From there, the complexity of the Francophone identity raises questions about the correlation of the relationship between oral and written languages including literatures and other musical expressions and their reflexive relationship with the still unstable identities of their public francophone. In the specific context of this thesis, the public-reader is consisted of Canadian and Moroccan young Francophones belonging to a generation of "in-between" that was the heart of the research presented. In addition,the approach through a relevant comparative study also opens to the highlighted points of convergence and divergence between the participants. Our research then follows a gradual process which is initiated by the exploitation of an empirical study of references. Then a quantitative survey revealed the identities in transition. Finally, qualitative semi-structured interviews have helped deepen the perspective of the reader on its special relationship with the concept of identity, literatures and languages under permanent moving forms that are an echo of real social changes

Full textSenegal is a human and geographic crossroads where coexist and interfere three major civilizations: an African, an Arab-Muslim and Western. The francophone part of his identity is born of the cultural heritage left by the encounter between France and Senegal. If this cultural affinity partly explains the country's presence in the Francophone community, his commitment to the Francophonie is also linked to the emblematic figure of Leopold Sedar Senghor and his diplomatic and symbolic representation within Francophone institutions. Paradoxically, the Francophonie does not arouse enthusiasm in the Senegalese youth, often seen as rather old-fashioned or very useful in today's globalization. The percentage of french-speaking Senegalese hardly exceeds 20%. Without losing its importance, the Francophonie seems to lose its size, faces the progressive wolofisation and arabization of the society. The challenges of globalization continue to give its full place to the Francophonie in Senegal. Organized as a geocultural union, today's Francophonie, with its values of diversity, dialogue, solidarity, is a center into globalization. The country needs to preserve its identity in liberal globalization that tends to unify everything and in an Africa where the giants are Anglophone and where Francophone states are weakened by conflict and poor governance. This will require a lot of voluntarism on the part of the Senegalese government to promote it and on behalf of OIF which could be use Senegal as a bridgehead of the Francophonie in Africa, a continent that is the living heart of the francophone community

I use narratology, socio-criticism, psychoanalysis, psychocristicism and mythocristicism in order to bring out aesthetic and generic characteristics. Through these analytic methods, I analyze the components of the novel: the style, the context, the interiority and the imagination. Based on the examined elements, I establish the poetics of the francophone feminine novel. Some features of this genre of novel refer to “the androgyny of imagination”, “cross-culturality” and “ego-histoire”

In this respect, we can observe that President Bourguiba’s great francophony orations, rich with philosophy and humanism, offer a space of thought in line with an ethic dimension that Didactology of Languages and Cultures is trying to discover by its researches. It is already known that after the independence of Tunisia, Bourguiba, as a pioneer and a spirit reformer, deeply contributed to elaborate a symbolic space powerful enough to enable the creation at Niamey, the 20th March 1970, of an institutional francophony with L. S. Senghor and H. Diori. The spearhead of this institution was the A. C. C. T (Agency for cultural and technical Cooperation) in which Bourguiba conceived a concord plan between antiquity and modernity, past and present, East and west.
