Abstract:

La thèse examine les traces que les conflits du vingtième siècle ont laissé dans les productions artistiques allemandes (peinture, gravure, dessin). La guerre moderne met les artistes devant un certain nombre de défis : évolutions des formes de combat, armes nouvelles causant des blessures inédites, mort de masse sans précédent ; citons aussi le rôle croissant des autres images (photographie, cinéma, etc. ), ainsi que le risque d'esthétisation de la guerre par son "importation" dans le monde de l'art. Quelles furent les réponses à ces défis?Les productions allemandes sont examinées en contexte : la présentation des codes iconographiques antérieurement en vigueur permet de saisir les ruptures et continuités dans la représentation des conflits modernes, l'émergence de motifs nouveaux, les procédés de palimpseste à partir d'éléments anciens du répertoire. Des œuvres d'autres artistes européens sont présentées à titre de comparaison. Pour affiner l'analyse globale, quatre parcours individuels sont examinés, ceux de Franz Radziwill (1895-1983), Otto Pankok (1893-1966), Heinrich Maria Davringhausen (1894-1970) et Andreas Paul Weber (1893-1980), qui avaient tous vingt ans lorsqu'éclata la Première Guerre Mondiale, et qui ont également mis en images les autres conflits du siècle - de la guerre d'Espagne à celle du Vietnam. L'interrogation centrale de cette recherche tourne autour de la question du rapport aux traditions : malgré la nouveauté des conflits, le recours à des procédés de composition et à des sujets hérités est fréquent, que ce soit sur le mode de la reprise pure et simple, ou du jeu subversif sur les codes visant à heurter les horizons d'attente des spectateurs
The aim of this Ph. D is to look into the traces left by 20th century conflicts in German art (painting, engraving, and graphic arts). With modern warfare, artists are faced with several challenges, among which changing methods of combat, new weapons causing new types of wounds, casualties reaching unprecedented figures, but also the increasing importance of other types of images (from photography, the cinema, etc), and the risk of war being "aestheticized" by being transfered into the field of art. What were the responses to these challenges ? The works of German artists are studied here in their context : the iconographic conventions that prevailed earlier on are introduced, to bring out the breaks and continuities in the representation of modern conflicts, the emergence of new motifs, the development of palimpsest works made from stock elements. Comparisons are made with works by other european artists. To refine the overall analysis, the individual paths of four artists are examined : those of Franz Radziwill (1895-1983), Otto Pankok (1893-1966), Heinrich Maria Davringhausen (1894-1970) and Andreas Paul Weber (1893-1980). All of them were twenty years old when World War I broke out, and also pictured the other conflicts of the century (from the Spanish to the Vietnam War). The key question in this research revolves around the relationship with tradition : in spite of the novelty of the conflicts, inherited processes of composition and themes are often resorted to, whether simply taken up again, or meant as a subversive play on conventions, aiming to clash with the viewer's expectations

Abstract:

Cette thèse a pour sujet l'étude de cinq auteurs français qui vécurent au Canada a la fin du XIXe siècle et au début du XXe, et de leurs œuvres, et qui ont contribué de façon significative à enrichir la production littéraire au Canada français. Un bref rappel biographique situe les auteurs par ordre chronologique dans leurs contextes socio-historiques respectifs, permettant ainsi une meilleure compréhension de leurs œuvres : Henri Emile Chevalier, La huronne, Scènes de la vie canadienne, 1889 ; Marie le Franc, Hélier, Fils des bois, 1930, et Visages de Montréal, 1934 ; Georges Bugnet, Siraf, Étranges révélations. Five French authors who lived in Canada at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth century are the subject of this thesis which proposes to study their work and its influence on French Canadian literature. A short biography of each author presented in chronological order is followed by a thematic and stylistic analysis of their works: Henri-Emile Chevalier, la huronne, Scènes de la vie canadienne, 1889 ; Marie le Franc, Hélier fils des bois, 1930, and Visages de Montreal, 1934 ; Georges Bugnet, siraf, Etranges révélations. Abstract:

In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird das Hauptaugenmerk auf die Untersuchung der Auswirkungen einer Modifikation der zugänglichen Prozessparameter auf die funktionalen Eigenschaften oxidischer Dünnfilme während der gepulsten Laserabscheidung (PLD) gelegt. Der erste Teil der Arbeit stellt die Herstellung von BaTiO3/SrTiO3-Mehrfach-Heterostrukturen auf thermisch und chemisch vorbehandelten SrTiO3-Substraten mittels gepulster Laserabscheidung (PLD) vor. Die zugängliche in-situ Wachstumskontrolle durch ein reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED)-System ermöglicht es die Wachstumsprozesse in Echtzeit zu überwachen. Angestrebt wird ein stabiler zwei-dimensionaler Wachstumsmodus, der neben glatten Grenzflächen auch eine hohe Dünnfilmqualität ermöglicht. Es wird erstmals die prinzipielle Anwendbarkeit von BaTiO3/SrTiO3-Heterostrukturen als Bragg-Spiegel aufgezeigt. Für BaTiO3- sowie SrTiO3-Dünnfilme wurden die PLD-Parameter Substrattemperatur, Sauerstoffpartialdruck, Energiedichte des Lasers sowie Flussdichte der Teilchen variiert und die Auswirkungen auf die strukturellen, optischen und Oberflächeneigenschaften mittels Röntgendiffraktometrie (XRD), spektraler Ellipsometrie (SE) und Rasterkraftmikroskopie (AFM) beleuchtet. Im zweiten Teil werden ZnO/MgxZn1−xO-Quantengrabenstrukturen hetero- und homoepitaktisch auf thermisch vorbehandelten a-Saphir- respektive m- und a-orientierten ZnO-Einkristallen vorgestellt. Die Realisierung eines zwei-dimensionalen „layer-by-layer“ Wachstumsmodus wird für die Quantengrabenstrukturen aufgezeigt. Die Quantengrabenbreite lässt sich aus beobachteten RHEED-Oszillationen exakt bestimmen. Ein Vergleich zwischen, mittels Photolumineszenz gemessenen Quantengrabenübergangsenergien als Funktion der Grabenbreite mit theoretisch ermittelten Werten wird vorgestellt, wobei der Unterschied zwischen polaren und nicht-polaren Strukturen mit Blick auf eine Anwendung aufgezeigt wird. Für c-orientierte ZnO-Dünnfilme wird das Wachstum im Detail untersucht und ein alternativer Abscheideprozess im so genannten Intervall PLD-Verfahren vorgestellt. Die Verifizierung der theoretischen Prognose einer ferromagnetischen Ordnung mit einer Curie-Temperatur oberhalb Raumtemperatur (RT) für kubische, Mangan stabilisierte Zirkondioxid (MnSZ)-Dünnfilme stellt den dritten Teil der Arbeit dar. Die strukturellen Eigenschaften der Dünnfilme werden mittels XRD, AFM sowie Transmissionselektronenmikroskopie (TEM) untersucht. Die Bedingungen einer erfolgreichen Stabilisierung der kubischen Kristallphase durch den Einbau von Mn wird aufgezeigt. Mittels Röntgenphotoelektronenspektroskopie (XPS) sowie Elektronenspinresonanz (EPR) wird der Ladungszustand der, in der Zirkondioxidmatrix eingebauten, Mn-Ionen ermittelt. Die elektrischen Eigenschaftenwerden durch Strom-Spannungsmessungen(IU) sowie der Leitungstyp durch Seebeck-Effekt Messungen charakterisiert. Zur Erhöhung der Leitfähigkeit werden die MnSZ Dünnfilme in verschiedenen Atmosphären thermisch behandelt und Veränderungen durch IU-Messungen aufgezeigt. Ergebnisse von optischen Untersuchungen mittels Transmissionsmessungen und KL werden präsentiert. Superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID)-Magnetometrie wird zur Charakterisierung der magnetischen Eigenschaften genutzt. Magnetische Ordnungen im Bereich zwischen 5 K ≤ T ≤ 300 K werden untersucht und der Einfluss von Defekten sowie einer thermischen Behandlung in verschiedenen Atmosphären auf die magnetischen Eigenschaften diskutiert.

Abstract:

Many accounts of Max Weber’s thought would seek to portray him as a theorist of responsibility or “re-enchantment” – as one who can confirm for us the appropriateness of a liberal position given the conditions of life as moderns, thus preserving the possibility of a renewed project of management at every turn. Such a reading may well be comforting today, insofar as it enables a reconciliation to the constellations of technological thinking within which we already find ourselves engaged. Over and against such accounts, this thesis attempts to elaborate an image of Weber as a hunger artist, as one who brings into emphasis a fundamental sense of loss attendant to “modernity”, and who broods upon that loss as the condition of a more faithful reflection upon the character of being. Not only does Weber offer insight into modern conditions of research and the theorization of politics; he is one who thinks such questions in their mournful profundity, gesturing towards what cannot be carried forward within their terms. In the melancholy of his thought, it is suggested, we glimpse the contours of a horizon from which we have still not emerged.
