Abstract:
The problem of the content and nature of the use of a worker's free time is of scientific and practical interest in the unity and struggle of opposites both with working time, existing in capitalist society outside the real “temporal freedom” of a person of labor, and with leisure time, included in the structure of free time. The actualization of these problems is determined by the increasing importance of creative work, which contributes to the formation of a new society of professionals - potentially “another subject of the production process”, characterized not by imaginary, but by real freedom (subjectivity) not only of work, but also the use of free time of an individual and society for personal development. In reality, creative labor and social free time come into conflict with the desire of capital to constantly increase and diversify the exploitation of labor, knowledge, and personality. Classical and contemporary scholars raise the question of capital's unchanging intention to turn the "time of creative freedom" into a surplus product, to resubjugate labor by erasing the boundary between work and leisure, to increase the degree of alienation of labor, directing the free time of the creative personality not to its development, but to consumption, expanding leisure time to the limit. The present study was conducted on a comparative cross-country level in the context of empirical comparison of temporal and chronometric characteristics of creative labor of workers in three branches of the social sphere related to the reproduction of human potential. The main conclusion is the identification of a paradoxical trend of late capitalist socio-economic development associated with the reduction of the share of socially free time in the increasing total amount of free time, in the conditions of increasing productivity, technologization and intellectualization of work and leisure. The above benefit-trend, in combination with the reduction of regulated working time, the transfer of part of the labor process to non-working time and the increase in leisure time, reflects the change in the nature of the exploitation of creative labor by capital in the direction of subjective restraint of its social-revolutionary power adequate to the construction of the "kingdom of freedom" in the long run.

Abstract:
The article raises one of the most complex and urgent problems of the philosophy of the socio-economic development of modernity – qualitative changes due to the progress of creative activity and the transformation of homo creator into the highest value and the main means of progress. The methodological and theoretical basis of the article are the developments of Soviet creative Marxism, which are critically aligned with the developments of foreign economists and sociologists in the field of creative economy problems. Moving from sociophilosophical to political economy research, the author shows that under the conditions of late capitalism, the socio-economic form of intellectual private property is imposed on the products of creative activity. This form is in conflict with the content of creative activity, as well as the currently dominant socio-economic forms of labor, primarily the form of hired labor. At the same time, even in the modern economy, a space of free creative activity is developing, in which the regime of ownership by everybody of everything operates and the formal and real emancipation of labor begins.

Abstract:
The article investigates how the main characteristics of labor activity are manifested during different stages of historical development. The authors propose to classify labor activity by four labor relations layering directions: free and bonded labor, prestigious and ordinary types of activity, skilled and unskilled labor, creative and routine labor. The main approaches to history periodization were analyzed and presented on a unified time scale. Based on the analysis of existing approaches, a generalized approach to the history periodization is proposed. For each historical period the manifestation of labor relations layering directions is shown: how they are manifested, how this manifestation changes from period to period, how labor activity is distributed within these characteristics. The visualization of how the labor relations layering directions manifest themselves at different historical stages of the proposed periodization is presented. The conclusion is made that the differentiation of labor has a wave-like character; the identified labor relations layering directions are manifested practically at all periods of history of economic activity, they change in different directions and interrelated with each other; creative and skilled labor relations layering types reflect the process of new technologies introduction; labor differentiation increases during the periods of technological revolutions.

Abstract:
The worldwide popularity of South Korean popular music has generated global consumer demand for variations of its grueling training regimen offered by talent recruitment agencies and dance studios. Using the case study of the South Korean popular music boot camps offered by the Australia-based agency, The Academy, this article seeks to frame these performative engagements along more cosmopolitan notions of choreographic co-creative labor. In contrast to the highly competitive South Korean popular music machinery, participation in these boot camps can be characterized as affective prosumer “free labor” from trainees from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and motivations. Through programs that enable trainees to “re-present,” “re-organize,” and “re-interpret” K-pop dance performances, studios like The Academy leverage on K-pop’s popularity and its training pedagogies so as to open new fields of creative labor. Accompanying such openings are the strengthening transnational connectivities in the activities of The Academy in intensifying existing multicultural networks in Australia. The studio is also part of a more cosmopolitan platform in orienting traditionally Eurocentric mainstream Australia culturally toward the Asia-Pacific region. By further democratizing the dance abilities of K-pop choreographies, initiatives like The Academy serve in enlarging creative labor in transnational rhythmic communities.

Abstract:
This paper aims to portrait the contemporary situation of Indonesian local game industry regarding the working-class issues and state approach to the development and sustainability. As Indonesian local game industry began a new era after state recognition in 2014, the industrial durability in the national creative sector is often questioned. A case study method is applied to response and diagnose one of the newest creative economic sectors in Indonesia. Interviewing various parties such as two related state ministries, twelve founders of local game studios, ten local game workers, and representative of labor union. The result exposes a liberal approach from the state in nurturing local game industry such as free-market competition, nescience, and quasi-patronage. This particular style of state’s cultural policy to local gaming industry has resulted in precarious situation among local game labors as the state’s instruments in contemporary creative industry.

Abstract:
This study explores how extensive time and intensive development factors interact during technological transitions by analyzing changes in the time budgets of workers in knowledge-intensive, creative fields. While theoretical literature highlights the growing significance of free time, increasingly influenced by hidden labor activities, this research shifts focus to the systemic and structural changes in time budgets and the ways they affect productivity. The primary objective is to identify the links between time budget transformations and the rising labor intensity in high-tech industries across various countries, united by their accelerated development. The study seeks to create a typology of these metamorphoses in relation to labor intensity dynamics, employing empirical data and correlation analysis based on national statistical groupings. The findings reveal a complex and sometimes contradictory relationship. On one hand, an optimal balance between labor and non-labor time expenditures emerges, shaped by national-cultural values, which influences labor intensification levels. On the other hand, creative labor is subjected to two opposing forms of exploitation: extensive, characterized by increased working hours, and intensive, marked by heightened pressure per unit of time. This study offers insights from cross-country comparisons to inform socio-economic policy adjustments, focusing on balancing labor productivity growth with public consumption. Achieving this balance is vital for sustainable economic development and enhancing workers' quality of life amid rapid technological change.

Abstract:
Recent literature in the world-systems perspective has refocused attention on questions of ‘core’ and ‘periphery’ in historical capitalism, yet rarely critically examines the underlying assumptions regarding these zones. Drawing on a developing dataset on the world’s wealthiest individuals (the World-Magnates Database), we trace the development and expansion of sugar circuits across the Atlantic world from the sixteenth through the eighteenth centuries to explain how the sugar commodity chain leads us to rethink some prevailing notions of core and periphery. Namely, we challenge the notion that these zones consist of geographical spaces that, since very early in the development of the world-economy, became permanently specialized in the production of raw materials (periphery) or more sophisticated manufactures (core); and that labor forces have been trans-historically relatively free/better-paid in core activities and coerced/poorly-paid in peripheral ones. We argue that, prior to the nineteenth century, the world-economy is not only characterized by the uneven and combined emergence of various forms of labor exploitation, as usually argued within a world-systems perspective, but also one in which core-like and peripheral activities (that is, those providing access to relatively greater or lesser wealth) were not yet as clearly bounded geographically as they would become in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. We find that a longue-durée analysis of sugar production by enslaved labor illustrates not merely processes of peripheralization, but of what we call coreification.

Abstract:
The new book by Denis Strebkov and Andrey Shevchuk “What do we know about freelancers? The Sociology of Free Employment” (2022) is a summation of a unique, large-scale, more than a decade-long research project dedicated to understanding the phenomenon of online freelancing. The authors are at the forefront of surveying free employment agents in the country. They describe the history of the formation of the Russian-speaking remote work market, its main participants and the laws by which it functions, while also conducting deep analysis of the origin, spread and transformation of remote self-employment practices and the composition of workers in this realm of labor. Freelancers are defined by the authors of the monograph as people who partake in intellectual and creative work, and freelancing itself is characterized as a sort of embodiment of freedom in the labor market. The title of the book suggests a new area of research — sociology of free employment. The review considers the merits of the monograph, while posing the question of whether we can even assert that independent professionals are truly free, or if there are certain caveats to it.

Abstract:
AbstractIn this essay, I use two different words to express the concept of productive human activity. The first is the Latin term ‘labor’, whose etymology means ‘pain’, ‘punishment’, ‘torture’, ‘suffering’. The second one is the term ‘opus’, again from Latin, which means creative activity that unleashes the human being’s capacity for doing and thinking. The concept of ‘labor’ is assimilable to the Marxian concept of ‘abstract labour’, it is the human activity that produces ‘exchange value’ and is the pivot around which capitalistic wealth creation evolves. By contrast, the concept of ‘opus’ is assimilable to the Marxian concept of ‘concrete labour’, able to produce ‘use value’ for the immediate satisfaction of human needs and dreams. In the capitalist system of production, ‘labour’ is remunerated and codified since it is considered ‘productive’, while ‘opus’ in most cases is free (unpaid) activity, not capable of generating wealth for the economic system (surplus value). Therefore, when referring to capitalist production, only the term ‘labour’ is used. Conversely, the term ‘opus’ together with the term ‘otium’ does not imply capitalist activity. The central theme of contemporary capitalism, which, according to some scholars, can be defined as bio-cognitive capitalism, is precisely the attempt to overcome this dichotomy, deconstructing the capital-labour relationship as we have known it since the industrial and French revolution of the late eighteenth century until today.

Abstract:
The following paper tries to show the different aspects of Fichte’s conception of labour. First of all, labour means the activity of appropriation through which man makes the world his own property. It is also a fundamental right of man as a free subject and as a citizen of the State. Finally it is necessary for man’s self-development and education. In this sense, Fichte stresses the importance of multiplying labour’s productivity, in order to free a large amount of time to be dedicated to the intellectual and creative activities of man’s spirit. That implies that all the members of society have to give their contribution to the well-being of their community and that the social wealth has to be equally distributed among all members of the State.

Abstract:
AbstractThe aim of the current study is to explore creative labour production and reproduction processes in architectural design studios in Brazil, UK, Belgium and Italy. In contrast to free autonomy narratives, participant observation has evidenced three conflicting mechanisms in creative labour processes, namely: subjectification, distinction and hierarchical expropriation. This issue is pivotal in a transition period-of-time when architecture confronts the myths of geniuses and focuses on knowledge exchange paradigms. Architecture was not herein approached as substance nor as form (an immutable essence and ideal), rather, it was explored as processes engaged with discipline and dialectics. Discipline was investigated based on the Grounded Theory used to code conflicts and recurrences by focusing on how it reinforces subjectivities and practices. In addition, Action Research was used to explore architecture’s social dialectics by focusing on collaborative methodologies and on how architecture (re)produces ways of seeing by revealing (visualizing hidden properties), imagining (conceiving future scenarios) and refunding (articulating virtual seeds for shared social realities). Results have indicated proposals to result from collaborative work, subjectivities to be enclosed in hegemonic narratives, fantasies to hide the actual collective process of production, and allegedly individual creations to be forms of fetish. This finding suggests a paradigm transition still in course, with overlapping conflicts between invention and labour, competition and collaboration, distinction and collective dialogue, as well as seductive narratives and negotiated practices.

Abstract:
AbstractCommonism is an alternative to market economy and real socialism because it goes beyond their common basis of wage labour, money and private or state property. Products are not produced in the form of commodities that are sold for money, but as commons for the direct satisfaction of needs. The chapter discusses common questions such as “Who cares about waste disposal?” and focuses on the question of coordination and mediation through commoning. Stigmergy, a signal-based coordination mechanism that communicates needs, can be used to create ex-ante planning of re/production. Conflicts are an important part of a free society and are not resolved by a central institution as envisioned by the followers of council theory, but in many places in a polycentric coordination mechanism. This polycentric coordination allows for planning and aggregation as long as the needs of the (care-) workers involved and their (commons-) enterprises are included. It builds on meta-structures providing information such as CO2 emissions or expected shortages or helps negotiate conflicts. It creates a society that can overcome ethics as the basis of solidarity and create a logic of inclusion that makes the inclusion of others the best selfish option.

Abstract:
Іn the scientific work, the authors made the first warning that during the recodification of civil legislation, it is first necessary to create a new version of the Civil Code of Ukraine (hereinafter – the Civil Code) and only after that start work on the project of the Civil Procedure Code of Ukraine (hereinafter – the Civil Procedure Code of Ukraine). However, work on the improvement of the Central Committee can be carried out in parallel and coordinated with the work on the improvement of the Central Committee, but this is extremely difficult to ensure. The authors believe that when starting work on a new edition of the CPC, one should first form its new structure with the systematization of relevant material, since the provisions of the current CPC are not laid out consistently. The judicial system of Ukraine should work within the limits of the law, but the state should find measures of influence on offenders and the demonstration of the will of the authorities is needed not for a short demonstration period, but on a permanent basis.Access to justice in civil proceedings in Ukraine should be discussed through the prism of whether a person with a minimum wage can protect his rights in court. Obviously not, because he cannot pay the large court fee. And this provision does not meet the requirements of Articles 3 and 55 of the Constitution of Ukraine, nor international standards, in particular, Articles 6 and 13 of the European Convention on the Protection of Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, since low-income citizens are, in fact, deprived of the right to access to justice and protection of their rights. Therefore, it is necessary to revise not only the norms of the Code of Civil Procedure, but also the laws of Ukraine «On court fees» and «On free legal aid».The right to appeal to the court for protection should not depend on the level of the plaintiff’s financial condition, if Ukraine is a rule of law state, but should be guaranteed to every person who needs it.Оne of the main issues of the new CPC project should be coordination and interaction of certain types of civil court proceedings, in particular, such as injunctive and claim, therefore the authors proposed ways to solve these issues. The authors paid a lot of attention to the analysis of minor disputes, the criteria for classifying certain categories of cases as minor. The impossibility of classifying labor disputes as minor is substantiated with reference to the Constitution of Ukraine. A reasoned opinion was expressed regarding the impracticality of paying the same court fee, which is paid in both «significant» and minor cases, taking into account the order of their consideration. It is proposed to improve the civil justice system taking into account Recommendation No. R (95) 5 of 02.07.1995 of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.list of shortcomings of the current legislation on civil procedure is given. When applied by the court, they should be considered as an abuse of law by the court. If the CPC does not record the court’s duty to respond to every argument of the party, then all other norms are a camouflage for the legally guaranteed arbitrariness of the judicial branch of government, no matter what proceeding we are talking about. If a person is limited in the right to be heard, then what judicial procedure can we talk about...Certain debatable issues are pointed out, which are subject to discussion and resolution when creating a new version of the CPC. The authors believe that the given arguments and arguments should be submitted for public discussion in order for the new version of the Code of Civil Procedure to be better, not worse, than the current regulatory act.But when implementing the idea of updating and recodifying the Central Committee, making changes to the Central Committee will become objectively inevitable, and not only to the Central Committee. The same applies to Ukraine’s accession to the EU, as it will be necessary to bring the CPC into compliance with the recommendations existing in the European community. no But you cannot make random amendments to the adopted draft law, and the introduction of fragmentary amendments quite often leads to an imbalance of the regulatory act as a whole.

Abstract:
New jobs created by innovative dynamism tend to be better jobs than old jobs destroyed. The new jobs are usually safer, cleaner, less routine, more creative, and more satisfying. Most factory jobs in the Industrial Revolution were steps up for those who had been scraping by in rural poverty. The replacement of the steam engine by the electric engine in factories made factories safer, cleaner, and better lit. From the late 1800s through the early 2000s, new jobs tended to involve less manual labor, less routine, more creativity, and more analysis. The trend accelerated with the flourishing of computers and the Internet in the 1990s and early 2000s. Innovative dynamism allows workers to choose jobs pursuing big, hairy, audacious goals (BHAGs) and the control, challenge, and satisfaction of being their own boss as free-agent entrepreneurs. We all benefit from allowing the choice of intense jobs, rather than mandating work–life balance.

Abstract:
Chapter 6 explores Safaricom’s parsimonious labor regime, tracking how the knowledge, work, and strategies of M-Pesa agents have become firmly attached to the infrastructures of the corporation. I argue that the uncompensated affective social and material work of these people constitutes creative forms of action that enable infrastructural maintenance and expansion. While essentially free in Safaricom’s accounts, this work critically underwrites the firm’s success. This dynamic extends beyond Safaricom’s labor regime, capturing the majority of Kenya’s adult population. As everyday relations are commuted into service use and move from agents’ kiosks to Safaricom’s headquarters, they are refined into data that form the basis of new services and, ultimately, the consolidation of new markets and frontiers of accumulation.

Abstract:
Renewed labor practices have linked immaterial labor to material labor processes. The creative power and activity connection of social media users, who are considered today's networked workers, as one of the stages of digital labor is one of the most important examples of this situation. Considering the appearance of labor in the new world, it is understood that brand evangelism is one of the forms of labor exploitation of contemporary capitalism. In this context, in the study, brand evangelism seen in Instagram was discussed within the framework of digital labor. The sample of the research consists of three Instagram user accounts with high followers who produce paid content in exchange for brand collaboration or advertising on social media. Forty images included in the research were subjected to content analysis. At the end of the research, it was concluded that Instagram stands out as the application area of brand evangelism and pointed out that the free labor culture that has become widespread in the digital environment covers labor exploitation.

Abstract:
This chapter considers how technologies like Amazon’s Alexa are imagined, designed, and realized through entanglements with surveillance culture, the politics of big data, and shifting modes of production, consumption, and disposal in neoliberal capitalism. Such technologies also reflect long entanglements with racialized and gendered labor, planetary degradation, and a deep cultural desire for technofixes that project disability-free futures. Yet they also offer new possibilities for disabled people, especially in terms of reorganizing the putatively private space of the home to expand other relational potentialities in and beyond this space. This chapter plumbs the idea of technocreep in this context, focusing simultaneously on the embodied creative labor required to make technologies like the Alexa speak to the lives, needs, and desires of disabled people in the United States, as well as on the larger affective politics of living and being with artificial intelligence.

Abstract:
The philosopher Hannah Arendt carefully distinguishes between labor, which is necessarily repetitious (like doing laundry), and work, which like art-making and philosophical thinking, can be creative and long-lasting. By looking closely at and comparing the paintings of Berthe Morisot and Agnes Martin, it is possible to draw out the philosophical meaning of the experience of art works. Their paintings have an affinity with thinking, with respect to free play and coherent harmony, rather than with cognition, which applies already achieved patterns to problem-solving. By contrast, art offers ways of knowing that make thinking and wordless feelings visible to us. While we look at their practices of making, or one’s practices of attention, the artwork stands as a unique thing that helps make a human world.

Abstract:
This article explores the question of how sustainability and labour law are interrelated. The modern world of work is characterised by the growing social and environmental responsibility of companies. Especially in the post-COVID era, sustainability also plays an increasingly important role in the corporate context, which is also noticeable in the so-called ‘war for talent’. Achieving personal career goals is no longer enough for employees today. Corporate values and in particular the socalled ESG criteria (Environment, Social, Governance) are thus also becoming increasingly important in the employment relationship and in corporate reporting requirements. In terms of social sustainability, labour law instruments can, for example, promote the creation of a discrimination-free working environment, the introduction of flexible working time models or the protection of whistleblowers. From an ecological perspective, labour regulations are also suitable for implementing ‘green mobility’ and other measures to reduce companies’ ecological footprints. Working from home, which experienced a huge boom during the COVID-19 pandemic, is also sustainable, especially from an ecological point of view. Appropriate consideration of these sustainable work tools in future corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies not only creates a competitive advantage but can also be beneficial in recruitment.

Gorbunov, Maksym. "Design of a Multi-Use, Highly Efficient Intermodal Container System." In ASME 2013 Rail Transportation Division Fall Technical Conference. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2013. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/rtdf2013-4709.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper details the design of a shipping container concept with a purpose of being not only highly efficient in transport but also after arrival. In order to reduce mass while also increasing the ability to carry heavier loads, Lightweight structures and materials are employed instead of simple steels or cast iron used in current designs. The second goal of the design was to create a weld free structure that can be easily assembled and disassembled without the need for special labor and skills saving time, space and resources when shipping empty container or storing containers that are not in use. Shipping containers often clutter construction sites and temporary establishments like concerts and flea markets. By being able to break down and efficiently store containers businesses in charge of these temporary establishments can save valuable real estate and run much more efficiently. Another design feature is creating an entirely modular system. Each container is made from completely interchangeable parts that can be swapped in and out for ones that have different function like container variations that provides insulation or active temperature or humidity control for temperature sensitive products or high security configurations for hazardous materials or expensive goods. In order to provide such interchangeability, the frame is designed to be strong and rigid enough to be able to handle the required loads without relying on wall plates. The combination of these design points leads to a transportation system that can not only be deployed using existing intermodal infrastructure but can serve a secondary purpose once it arrives at its destination. Because the containers are modular and highly versatile, they can be assembled into large floor space, multistory structures. Containers and trailers normally used as office space at construction sites are cramped, uncomfortable and very unsightly. Using this system, large two story office space of several thousand square feet can be erected using no more than a dozen containers. The modular walls can be used to swap in ceiling or wall panels that let in natural light, harness solar power or allow plumbing systems, electrical wiring, thermal insulation or ventilation. Because of the weld-free design and ultra-lightweight components, structure assembly and disassembly is simple with unskilled labor and common tools. This is especially important because the most impactful application of this system could be in disaster relief. Single containers can be used as substitutes for single family homes and large container assemblies can be used to create anything kind of community use structure from shower clusters to temporary schools to dining halls to administrative buildings creating a sustainable temporary community.

Abstract:
This paper is based on the concepts of neoliberal rationality (Wendy Brown) and the punitive turn represented by the expansion of the carceral mode and the punitive politics of marginality (Loïc Wacquant). It aims to emphasise that neoliberalism encompasses not only the dominance of the free market but also the establishment of a neoliberal state that combines neoliberal and paternalistic interventions in various social domains. Viewing neoliberalism as a pervasive rationality rather than just an economic (market) rule or ideology, we will analyse the dual relationship between exploitative discipline and rehabilitative modes in the context of capitalism's reproduction. The punitive culture of the neoliberal form of capitalist regulation of social relations, characterised by individualisation of responsibility through risk management, reflects the contemporary shift in the dynamics between capital, labour, and the state. Furthermore, we will, in brief, explore the historical context of the emergence and transformation of capitalism to shed light on the class conditioning and functions of the prison institution, as each socio-historical epoch is marked by a penal system best suited for the prevailing mode of accumulation. We will demonstrate how market discipline as a means of domination and exploitation permeates correctional institutions, particularly evident in prison work programs that apply market principles to control and manage prisoners while also serving as an alternative source of cheap labour. Mass incarceration can also be viewed as a method of forced consumption, especially in post-industrial economies with economic precariousness and growing wealth inequalities where demand is lacking. In these economies, the lack of demand, rather than labour, is a significant crisis of modern capitalism, and spending in prisons is used to compensate for this shortage. In conclusion, we will highlight the intricate relationship between the prison and state systems, the labour market, and the neoliberal form of capitalist regulation of social relations, wherein prison labour serves as a means of coercing consumption, sustaining economic growth, and creating cheap labour through a specific form of state-imposed non-free work.

Abstract:
Effective cleaning and disinfecting help ensure the wellbeing of individuals. In Bangladesh, roads are polluted by people who spend most of their time travelling. Every day, these roads are covered with bread roll covers, cold beverage bottles, and so on. Moreover, it is important to clean the transport stands and railroad stations at regular intervals. There is no single cleaning strategy that is used for all areas. Viable cleaning relies on the cleaning gadget, and the cleaning method. Cleaning work can be hard work for individual labour, and there is a need to create effective strategies. As of late, automated cleaning gadgets are getting more mainstream. This paper presents the design of an eco-friendly sun based and battery-controlled street cleaning machine in a human-fueled cart van. To keep any kind of street clean adequately and proficiently, the cleaning van will be of great assistance to street cleaners. Moreover, the van can reach places where a big cleaning truck cannot reach due to challenging road conditions. This design focuses on cost effectiveness and ease of use. A prototype is made to showcase the potential of the design.

Abstract:
Latches are essential mechanical elements used to controllably connect multiple bodies throughout industry. Latches conventionally attach bodies at a single point or at a few discrete points, and are designed for multiple operation cycles. Actuator controlled latches, minimize the amount of complexity and costs involved with installation and removal by making the attachment between structures controllable, tool-free and fast. However, the use of multiple single point fasteners carries additional part count, material costs, and labor associated with installation and removal, and can creating load concentrations at attachment sites. Alternatively, surface attachments, such as traditional hook and loop mechanisms, distribute structural connection over an area or across many points reducing stress concentrations, allowing engagement of multiple bodies, maintaining structural connections in nonspecific locations and orientations and reducing labor costs to install and detach bodies. However, performance limitations of conventional surface attachments, such as low retention force, restrict potential applications. An active distributed attachment technique has the potential to increase the performance of conventional distributed attachments, as well as overcome the complexity and operation of conventional point attachments. This paper introduces three active distributed latch approaches (Pegboard, Interlocking Teeth, and Active Velcro) that utilize lightweight, compact SMA actuation. Proof-of-concept prototypes were built, and tested experimentally to investigate the engagement, retention, and release performance. The best performing of the three is demonstrated in a full application scale. The first generation prototypes improved upon the performance of conventional surface attachments and show promise in maintaining the necessary structural attachment for industrial applications.

Abstract:
Standardization of competences provided by education provided both by traditional means and via e-learning systems becomes a prerequisite for Romanian education, given the need for ensuring appropriate correlations of the National Framework of Qualifications with the European Framework of Qualifications, with impact also on the competences provided in the educational systems. As such, , it becomes compulsory to review the training programs provided in order to bring these programs in line with the National Framework of Qualifications, correlated also with the Code for Occupations from Romania and with the competences established at European level, in order to enable free movement of labor force. Education becomes strongly connected with the labor market, and as result of using e-learning, brings students closer to a knowledge and information society. We shall conduct a case study on the e-learning platform from the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, focusing on elements required to be adjusted in the e-learning platform, while taking into account the requirements of correlating with the National Framework for Qualifications. We shall provide also statistical data with regard to the number of students in economic studies trained by traditional means and the ones trained using e-learning platforms. Based on studies and analyses already conducted, using the e-learning platform is the most appropriate approach in providing education for post-graduate studies and Masters programs, as well as for lifelong learning training courses. Recommendations will be made in relation to changes in methodology employed in the design of the e-learning courses, based on new competences set within the European Framework of Qualifications, as well as possible improvements in using software used for creation of learning objects.

Abstract:
Within the new concept of Industry 4.0, digitalization and sustainability are the latest trends in the knitting industry. Digitization, known as "the use of digital technologies to transform a business model and create new revenue and value opportunities," is emerging as a means to not only achieve sustainability in terms of planet, profit, and human engagement, but also to reduce inventory, increase supply chain visibility, and adapt production. Sustainable knitwear will be part of the knitting technology curriculum at the Faculty of Industrial Design and Business Management of ''Gheorghe Asachi'' Technical University of Iasi, Romania, taking into account not only fashion but also environmental aspects, especially resource consumption through waste-free manufacturing, reuse when possible, and recycling when necessary. The focus of this paper is to present the technological features of the complete garment production on the electronic weft flat knitting machines. The paper describes the design of a complete outerwear product, as a basis for the further programming phase. M1plus(R) Pattern Software from Stoll by Karl Mayer, Germany, is one of the most effective CAD systems for creating patterns for a highly optimized knitting process. The pattern software can be used for complete fashions as well as for knitting and wearing patterns. M1plus offers a rich Module Explorer Database, with numerous ready-made pattern elements. The learning module is supported by examples of knitting programs developed for finished products with different applications, such as: Caps, masks or shoes and is available at the web address: bibliodoc.ro/advancedknitting. The remarkable advantages of complete knitting refer to a shorter production process, lower finishing costs, no side seams, lower labor costs, fewer machines involved in production, lower energy consumption and time savings in production.
