Abstract:

Abstract. In der trinationalen Region am Oberrhein bilden die politische Zusammenarbeit und die wirtschaftlichen Verbindungen zwischen den Teilräumen Nordwestschweiz, Elsass und Südbaden gute Voraussetzungen für eine gemeinsame, grenzüberschreitende regionale Identität. In einer Befragung von Studierenden an drei Universitäten in der Regio TriRhena wurden die raumbezogene Identifikation der Studierenden, ihre grenzüberschreitenden sozialen Kontakte und ihre Mobilität untersucht. Die Mehrheit der Studierenden rückt die nationale oder europäische Identität in den Vordergrund, während die Identität als «Regio-Bewohner/in» nur eine untergeordnete Rolle spielt. Die Mobilität der Befragten in die Nachbarregionen ist dagegen sehr ausgeprägt, besonders für Einkäufe und Freizeitaktivitäten. Grenzüberschreitende regionale Identität kann also vor allem im Hinblick auf das raumrelevante Handeln der Studierenden ausgemacht werden und weniger in Bezug auf die Artikulation von regionaler Zugehörigkeit.

ZusammenfassungIn der Stadt Freiburg im Breisgau im südlichen Oberrheingraben gab es um die Neugestaltung eines städtischen Platzes (Platz der Alten Synagoge) große Diskussionen. Im Vorfeld der Umgestaltung sollte mit Hilfe von Modellen die Auswirkung des Umbaus auf die in den Sommermonaten auf dem Platz ggf. auftretende Hitzebelastung für Menschen untersucht und quantifiziert werden. Die Ergebnisse der Untersuchung zeigen, wie man in Zeiten des Klimawandels Anpassungsmaßnahmen durchführen sollte.

Joseph von Quarin (1733-1814), court physician to the Emperor of Austria at the end of the 18th century, had studied medicine in Vienna and Freiburg im Breisgau. His Freiburg doctoral dissertation is still of great interest today. In a first chapter it defines the term <insect>, in a second it describes diseases insects can cause, and a final chapter discusses medical uses of insects. Quarin tried to unite traditional knowledge with new findings. His brief work is a survey of the knowledge of medical entomology in his time.

In his classic analysis of state building by the Austrian Habsburgs in early modern Central Europe, R. J. W. Evans argues that the dynasty's eventual success in asserting its will over a conglomerate of separate, coherent territories with time-honored claims to political liberties followed the sometimes troubled trajectory of crown-aristocratic relations. The cultural impetus for political centralization was the mix of reform within the Catholic Church and counterreform measures taken against powerful Protestant subjects among the nobles and civic elites. By the 1650s the ability of Habsburg officials in Vienna to govern effectively the dynasty's various holdings rested firmly on a dyarchy of the ruling house and regional nobles who shared a common baroque Catholic faith and an investment in a system of court patronage that fostered collaboration rather than resistance in the far-flung empire.

Summary Krebs was born in Hildesheim (North Germany) and graduated (MD) from the University of Munich in 1923. He was assistant to Otto Warburg (1926–30) who taught tissue slicing and manometry which Krebs used to complete his three great works: The Detoxification of Ammonia (Freiburg im Breisgau 1933), The Degradation of Foods to provide Energy for Life (Sheffield 1937) and Gluconeogenesis (Oxford 1963). He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of London (FRS) in 1947, Nobel Laureate in 1953 and KBE in 1958.

SummaryThe article explores psychological motives in Leopold Blaustein’s philosophy. Blaustein was educated in Lvov, Freiburg im Breisgau and Berlin. In his original explorations, he attempted to connect a phenomenological perspective with descriptive psychology. As trained by Twardowski, he took over some motives of understanding the method of philosophy (psychology), its objectives and aims. The author situates Blaustein also in a dialogue with Stumpf and next to the context of Dilthey’s humanistic psychology is examined. Finally, the article explores the influences of Gestalt psychology on Blaustein. The ultimate thesis of the article is that Blaustein’s method can be grasped as a phenomenologically oriented descriptive psychology.

Europaweit gehören acht Verlage zu MAIRDUMONT. Die gesamte Gruppe erwirtschaftet derzeit ca. 100 Mio. Euro Umsatz und ist Europas Marktführer für Reise-Informationen. Mair-Huydts leitet das Familienunternehmen in der dritten Generation. Ihr Bruder Frank, ebenfalls in der Geschäftsführung, verantwortet den digitalen Bereich. Abstract:

Berufliche Pflege lässt sich als Unterstützung bei der Bewältigung des Lebensalltags charakterisieren. Während es hierbei in der somatischen Pflege oft um das Kompensieren körperlicher Probleme geht, sind es in der Psychiatrie andere Hilfebedarfe, die pflegerische Interventionen erforderlich machen. In der vorliegenden explorativ-deskriptiven Studie ging es um die Rekonstruktion typischer Pflegesituationen und die durch sie ausgelösten pflegerischen Interventionsmuster. Mithilfe heuristischer Methoden (Grounded Theory) wurden im Rahmen eines Praxisforschungsprojekts in einem anthroposophisch geführten psychiatrischen Fachkrankenhaus Pflegesituationen untersucht, die das Kriterium erfüllten, einen eindeutigen pflegerischen Benefit zu indizieren. Diese von den Praxisforschern generierten narrativen Daten aus 59 Episoden konnten anschließend zu vier typischen Mustern pflegerischer Interpretation verdichtet werden: Eingliedern versus Verselbständigen sowie Routinehandeln versus Krisenintervention. Die Reichweite der Ergebnisse ist durch die Tatsache eingeschränkt, dass ausschließlich Daten eines einzigen psychiatrischen Fachkrankenhauses zur Auswertung kamen. Durch Maßnahmen zur Sicherung der internen und externen Validität sowie den Abgleich der Ergebnisse mit der Fachliteratur lässt sich jedoch schließen, dass den vorliegenden Studienergebnissen durchaus heuristische Bedeutung zukommt. Auf ihrer Grundlage ließen sich andere pflegerische Settings inner- und außerhalb der psychiatrischen Pflege beleuchten und gegebenenfalls präziser beschreiben.

Abstract:

Introduction. In 1275, two drafts of town law of Freiburg im Breisgau were created. This article presents an analysis of one of these texts, namely the short draft. Methods and materials. The main research method is comparative historical analysis. The contents of two charters are compared, namely the 1218 Rodel draft and the short draft of 1275. Analysis. There are 6 thematic clusters uniting the laws by branches of law: 1) privileges of citizens and rights of the Town Lord; 2) criminal procedure law; 3) civil law; 4) town administration; 5) trade law; 6) various laws. The first part of the laws from the short draft is a translation of the Rodelian laws, the second one represents reformulated Rodelian norms, while the last one contains new laws in the legislation of Freiburg. Results. Though the document did not become an official town charter, it manifested the changes in the town law of the 13th century, compared to the previous 1218 Town Charter. In addition, the laws in the draft reflected the political struggle for power between the Town Lord of Freiburg, the City Council of 24 and the town community. The Town Lord regained his previously lost rights, in particular the legislative initiative. However, at the same time, the short draft significantly limited Lord’s arbitrariness towards the property of citizens as well as Freiburg citizens themselves. According to the short draft, the City Council of 24 strengthened and expanded its power in the town, becoming a full-fledged legislative and executive body of the town administration. The town community, on the other hand, was losing its privileges and rights, for example, it lost the opportunity to elect some of the civil servants and members of the Council of 24.

Abstract:

Energy conservation in the passenger transport sector of cities is an important policy matter. There is a long history of transport energy conservation, dating back to the first global oil crisis in 1973–1974, the importance and significance of which is explained briefly in this paper. Detailed empirical data on private and public passenger transport energy use are provided for Sweden’s ten largest cities in 2015 (Stockholm, Göteborg, Malmö, Linköping, Helsingborg, Uppsala, Jönköping, Örebro, Västerås and Umeå), as well as Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, which is a benchmark small city, well-known globally for its sustainability credentials, including mobility. These data on per capita energy use in private and public transport, as well as consumption rates per vehicle kilometer and passenger kilometer for every mode in each Swedish city and Freiburg, are compared with each other and with comprehensive earlier data on a large sample of US, Australian, Canadian, European and Asian cities. Swedish cities are found to have similar levels of per capita car use and energy use in private transport as those found in other European cities, but in the context of significantly lower densities. Possible reasons for the observed Swedish patterns are explored through detailed data on their land use, public and private transport infrastructure, and service and mobility characteristics. Relative to their comparatively low densities, Swedish cities are found to have healthy levels of public transport provision, relatively good public transport usage and very healthy levels of walking and cycling, all of which help to contribute to their moderate car use and energy use.

Abstract:

This article is based on a lecture I was originally invited to deliver at Aberystwyth in the University of Wales in honour of the late Sir Thomas Parry-Williams (one of my earliest University teachers) and to do so on a topic which, I feel sure, would have met with his approval. He had himself studied with several of the most renowned and gifted scholars of the early part of this century, Edward Anwyl at Aberystwyth, John Rhys at Oxford, Rudolf Thurneysen at Freiburg im Breisgau, and Joseph Loth and Joseph Vendryes at the Sorbonne in Paris. He was one of the great scholarly and cultural heroes of my boyhood days and of my youth, a truly renowned scholar, literary figure and critic. His teaching days in the Department of Welsh at the University College of Wales at Aberystwyth spanned five decades, from 1914 to 1952 (he held the Chair of Welsh there with great distinction from 1920 to 1952). I treasure the memory of having been a member of a large post-war first year undergraduate class in his Department as long ago as 1947.
