Abstract:
Abstract The continuous flow of movement of goods on the world market forces manufacturers to turn to intermediaries who are able to organize cargo transportation services. At the moment, the most common intermediary is a freight forwarder. This article defines the understanding of the term freight forwarder, its role in the supply chain, as well as the risks associated with transportation. This article analyses the part of forwarding contract which deals with a limitation of the forwarder’s liability. The limitation of the forwarder’s liability allows predicting the amount of compensation to the cargo owner in case of damage or loss of goods. In addition to the previously conducted analysis of the freight forwarder’s liability in the selected countries of the European Union, an analysis of the responsibility of freight forwarders in the selected CIS countries was carried out. Among other things, it was determined which national regulations regulate freight forwarding activities in these countries. The limitations of the liability of freight forwarders proposed by the conditions of the expedition of the national Associations of logistics and forwarding, compiled on the basis of the standard rules of the FIATA organization, are also considered.

Abstract:
Purpose : This study aims to provide implications for enhancing the competitiveness of freight forwarders by deriving factors for selecting forwarders and analyzing the importance and satisfaction and comparing these factors between freight forwarders and shippers. Research design, data, methodology : Data for this study was collected using a questionnaire administered to some 123 organizations. This paper employs T-Test to test statistically the difference between importance and satisfaction by freight forwarder group and shipper group. Results : The most important factors in the shipper's selection of a freight forwarder were cost, general service, additional service, and company characteristics for both groups in the order. In the difference test between importance and satisfaction, most factors showed statistically differences, indicating that the satisfaction of the shipper is lower than the importance. Conclusions : As a result of analysis of shipper's freight forwarder selection factors, it was found that, although cost factors including competitiveness of sea freight rates, possibility of negotiating freight rates, and global network establishment factors are the most important factors, they do not significantly reach customer satisfaction. Therefore, in order to increase the competitiveness of forwarders in selecting shippers, intensive efforts are needed to reduce freight rates.

Abstract:
Abstract Understanding the limits of freight forwarders' liability helps to predict the scope of indemnification to the customer in case of damage or loss of cargo. The absence of international agreements regulating the limit of the liability limit of freight forwarders makes it difficult for customers to find freight forwarders with the most favorable conditions. A large number of factors, such as the type of forwarding contract, the country of registration of the forwarder, the status of the forwarder, existing international agreements, etc. can significantly affect the degree of liability of the forwarder. In this paper, the legislation regulating forwarding and the activities of the multimodal transport operator will be considered. In addition, the standard conditions of the forwarding contract, the most commonly used in the selected countries, will be analyzed. On the basis of the conducted research, a case study will be presented, which will indicate the practical influence of various factors on the liability limit of the forwarder and the multimodal transport operator.

Abstract:
The issue of creating international legislation capable of regulating the sphere of forwarding has been considered for quite a long time. The actively expanding volume of services provided by freight forwarders and the increasing blurring of its role and area of responsibility create problems in the mutual understanding of the participants in the client– forwarder – third party chain. The main obstacle to the implementation of an international legislative act is the difference in the laws and customs of individual countries. To identify these differences, the authors analyzed such factors as the range of services provided by the forwarder, the conditions of access to the forwarding market, the type of representation used by forwarders in the contract and the definition of the boundaries of the forwarder's responsibility to the client. The analysis was carried out by studying national legal acts regulating the field of forwarding, as well as the general conditions of forwarding applied by members of national associations of forwarding and logistics in countries with a civil law system. The greatest difference was revealed in the field of conditions of access to the forwarding market, while the functionality of the forwarder, the types of representation used and the limits of responsibility of forwarders from different countries did not indicate any big differences. The result of the work is the conclusion that there are no critical differences in the work of freight forwarders of countries with a civil law system that can hinder the unification of forwarding conditions.

Abstract:
Freight forwarders typically arrange cargo movement to an international destination. Also referred to as international freight forwarders, they have the expertise that allows them to prepare and process the documentation and perform related activities pertaining to international shipments. Some of the typical information reviewed by a freight forwarder is the commercial invoice, shipper's export declaration, bill of lading and other documents required by the carrier or country of export, import, or transhipment. Much of this information is now processed in a paperless environment. A freight forwarder organizes the safe, efficient movement of goods on behalf of an exporter, importer or another company or person, sometimes including dealing with packing and storage. Taking into account the type of goods and the customers' delivery requirements, freight forwarders arrange the best means of transport, using the services of shipping lines, airlines or road and rail freight operators. In some cases, the freight forwarding company itself provides the service. Companies vary in size and type, from those operating on a national and international basis to smaller, more specialized firms, who deal with particular types of goods or operate within particular geographical areas.

Abstract:
Purpose. To develop the methodology for choosing the strategies of freight forwarding companies in the situation of interaction with freight owners as customers of forwarding services. Methodology. The game-theoretical approach is used to formalize the conflict situation between a freight forwarding company and a cargo owner. A set of services proposed by forwarders is used as the base in order to represent possible strategies of a forwarder as the vector of probabilities that the respective services are provided for a client. The strategies of the cargo owner are represented as a binary variable that shows whether the client uses the provided services or not. The payoff function for a forwarder is defined as the companys profit and the clients payoff function as fee paid for forwarding services. To determine the influence of the demand parameters on the forwarders optimal strategies, the demand for transport services is represented as a flow of requests characterized by two numeric parameters delivery distance and consignment weight. Findings. The conducted experimental studies have shown that as a result of the use of the proposed methodology, the optimal strategy of a forwarding company can always be determined from the payoff matrix. The performed simulation experiment allowed us to state that in most cases the forwarders optimal strategy is mixed (the technological and commercial services should be provided with the given probability while servicing the flow of requests from freight owners). Originality. The studies on the influence of the request flow parameters on the probabilities of choosing the elementary strategies are carried in the paper for the first time. Practical value. The proposed methodology can be used as the basic tool for supporting decisions of freight forwarders while servicing the cargo owners at the market of road freight transportation.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on analysing the determinants of satisfaction (service quality, perceived value), as well as its possible influence on customer loyalty of freight forwarders to freight transport service providers (by road/maritime/air) in Spain. To this end, we propose a causal model tested using information from 205 freight forwarders collected through personal interviews. The model was estimated using the Partial Least Squares (PLS) approach. Moreover, the existence of differences in the perceptions on the analysed variables between transport modes is tested through ANOVA. Results show that service quality has an influence on customer satisfaction, both directly, as well as through perceived value. In turn, it is confirmed the relationship between satisfaction with the transportation company and customer loyalty. Furthermore, there are significant differences in quality dimensions and satisfaction between transport modes. This study confirms the importance of service quality and perceived value to promote the link between chain actors: freight forwarder and transport service provider. The main aim of this research is to go deeper into the study of satisfaction and loyalty of freight forwarders to freight transport service providers. Findings provide evidence about differences in the dimensionality of service quality between B2C and B2B settings and, even in the latter, differences between freight forwarding services and other industries are observed. The present paper is one of the few studies that obtains relevant information about several transport modes simultaneously and the findings reinforce the notion that perceptive processes in each of them are different.

Abstract:
The Rwandan Freight forwarders federation (RWAFFA) was established in 2013 to deal with the fragility that was in the clearing and forwarding industry, which worked without defined and professional procedures that led to poor and inefficient practices within the industry. The objective of this study was to examine inbound logistics metrics on the performance of Freight forwarders federation in Rwanda. A case of RWAFFA in Kicukiro District. This study was guided by three specific objectives which are toto evaluate order fulfilment accuracy level of freight forwarders in Rwanda, to determine the status of on time delivered shipments, in case of freight forwarders in Rwanda and to analyse the degree of safety for goods handled by freight forwarders in Rwanda. The research was of great significant to the researcher, MKU and freight forwarding Industry in Rwanda. The descriptive research design with two mixed approach of qualitative and quantitative was used to collect data by use of interview guide and questionnaire. The 160 respondents of the study were selected from the target population of 246 including employees from RWAFFA management team, clearing agents and importers firms operating in Kicukiro District using the Krejcie and Morgan table with a simple random and census method of selecting the sample size. The collected results were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis with use of percentage, mean and standard deviation and inferential statistics by the use of Pearson correlation (r) and multiple linear logistic regression analysis. Data were also presented in figure, tables and narratives because the qualitative data were analyzed with the use of thematic analysis which require the researcher to present the qualitative results in narrative. In this study, research findings showed that inbound logistic metrics were adopted to reduce the damaged shipment in freight forwarding within Rwandan Freight Forwarders association (RWAFFA).Therefore,The intercept of the regression was 13.803 and statistically significant p= 0.000).While the coefficient of order accuracy was 0.100 and p = 0.003. On time delivery had an intercept of 0.043 but significant at 0.002 and finally safety of goods had it at 0.065 and also positive. Despite the problem arising within Rwandan freight forwarders association in Kicukiro District such as Inadequate Performance measurement and metrics pertaining to SCM, lack of professionalism, clear regulations and to some extend absence of documented procedures to follow, delays and unreliability, lack of previous empirical research that examined the effects of inbound logistics metrics on performance of freight forwarders. Abstract:
The study analyzes the effect of environmental uncertainty and incoterms on strategic alliances. The population in this study is a freight forwarder company on the island of Java that has a global alliance. The research sample is 50 companies engaged in international freight forwarders. Based on answers from respondents were analyzed according to the research model developed from the theoretical framework using the structural equation model Smart-PLS approach. The analysis results show that environmental uncertainty and Incoterm positively and significantly affect strategic alliances. The alliance strategy will impact when the main priority is the risk-sharing aspect, the risk management factor from the incoterm aspect, and the market turbulence on the environmental uncertainty factor. Novelty in this study is the positive impact of Incoterm on the alliance strategy, especially for International freight forwarders. This research contributes to the factors considered in strategic alliances in the freight forwarder industry. It also contributes to the company's strategy, especially sales managers, to pay attention to international trade terms in segmenting and selecting target consumers to be more effective in improving alliance performance. The limitations of this study include 1) The sample size used is only a small number of companies engaged in international Freight Forwarder services, only 50 companies; 2) The data used in this research is through the distribution of questionnaires based on perceptual analysis units; 3) Other factors that are outside the model are not all studied, while the possibility of these factors can affect the existing significance test.

Abstract:
Maritime transportation is a crucial component of international cargo transport, offering several advantages, such as route flexibility, large capacity, and cost-effectiveness. The competition and collaboration among the node enterprises in the sea-cargo supply chain system (SCSCS) directly impact the overall structure and efficiency of the supply chain system, introducing complexity in analysis. This research focuses on a two-level SCSCS comprising one shipping company and two competing freight forwarders, considering their altruistic preferences manifested through contributing to the shipping company’s brand building. Employing a Stackelberg game model, this study examines the effects of the shipping company’s brand investment willingness and the freight forwarders’ altruistic preferences on the decision making and profits of all stakeholders. The findings reveal that a higher willingness of the shipping company to invest in its brand building leads to increased profits for all parties involved. However, while the altruistic behaviors of the freight forwarders can enhance the shipping company’s profits, their own profits may not necessarily see the same impact. Furthermore, moderate competition between the freight forwarders can enhance the profits for all members. This research identifies the circumstances in which the freight forwarders’ altruistic preferences can lead to increased profits for themselves, achieving both altruistic and self-interested outcomes.

Abstract:
The article deals with the very topical issues of the use of spot ship’s space booking and the dynamic adjustment of ocean freight, according to the demand and availability of cargo space on container ships. Container lines are facing the challenges of filling the growing container ships, which also raises the difficulty of managing the overbooking. Two research hypothesis; that (H1) freight forwarders have concerns about a new spot booking mode and a dynamic way of formulating ocean rates; and that (H2) freight forwarders feel threatened by Container Lines (CL) to some extent to phase them out from the organization of intermodal transport chains due to the introduction of larger ships and the risk of low space occupation, are followed by the research. A survey between freight forwarders and NVOCCs (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier) on a global scale provides guidelines for the further development of CL model for the booking process and the formation of ocean rates because the results expose how new ways of working have a greater impact on the operational and commercial work between CL, freight forwarders and NVOCCs. According to the obtained result, the article proposes a three-step approach to be developed by CL that would bring freight forwarders and NVOCCs closer to a new way of working, reduce business risks, and, as a result, provide leverage to achieve ship space optimization and lower space pressure on container terminals. The study provides new understandings in building new operational models for efficient maritime logistics and brings novelty to the scientific community by defining descriptive gaps in changing strategic and operational approach for ship’s cargo space optimization.

Abstract:
Customer loyalty is a vital component for businesses to achieve success and growth and that gaining customer loyalty can be sustainable by building a positive reputation. This study investigated the influence of customer satisfaction and trust as dimensions of the reputation of Ocean Freight Forwarders on customer loyalty. Data were collected from 180 exporting companies in Mindanao and a survey questionnaire was administered. A descriptive correlational design was employed, and the results showed positive and statistically significant relationship between customer loyalty, satisfaction, and trust. The findings revealed that exporters perceive ocean freight forwarders' reputation as highly satisfactory in terms of technical and functional qualities, and they have a very high level of trust in forwarders' benevolence and credibility. The results also showed strong loyalty in all dimensions of customer loyalty. Thus, the practical implications of this study are clear: prioritizing customer satisfaction and maintaining trust by the forwarders are essential for establishing a strong reputation. Therefore, ocean freight forwarders should consider these findings and continuously evaluate and improve their trust image and customer satisfaction strategies to enhance customer loyalty and maintain a competitive position in the dynamic export industry.

Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the impact of Incoterm and relational resources on the competitive advantage of Indonesian Freight forwarders. The measurement methodology uses structural equation model (SEM) analysis with SmartPLS software to analyze the impact of Incoterms and relational resources on competitive advantage. Through social media, online questionnaires were sent to gather research data. The Likert scale of 5 was used to create the questionnaire. Companies that provide freight forwarding services were the respondents in this study, chosen by simple random sampling. Online questionnaires were distributed to 75 companies to answer questions submitted. The data analysis step is validity tests, reliability tests, significance tests, and hypothesis tests. Based on the data processing results, it is found that Incoterm and relational resources positively affect competitive advantages. The novelty of this study is a model of the relationship between the effect of Incoterm and relational resources on the competitive advantage of freight forwarding companies. The research's theoretical implication is that Freight forwarder companies' management should select appropriate incoterms and implement relational resource policies to encourage increased competitive advantage. One of the limitations of this study is that the sample size used is only a small number of companies engaged in international Freight Forwarder services, only 75 companies.

Abstract:
Abstract Ocean container carriers (OCCs) compete with their competitors and increase their market share depending upon their customers. Shippers, consignees, and freight forwarders all have varied expectations from the services provided by OCCs. This study aims to determine which selection criteria are used while assigning OCCs and also identify which criteria are preferred under recent conditions by considering the perspective of shippers, consignees, and freight forwarders. As far as we know, this is the first study to utilize the fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution method to examine OCC selection studies. Another aim of the study is to expand the literature on OCC studies. A total of 146 surveys were collected for the study, which included 32 OCC selection criteria from three different customer groups. The results of the study indicated that the most important criterion for shippers and freight forwarders was equipment availability, while for consignees, on-time notification of the customer was key. It has been observed that the selection criteria for OCCs have changed over time and that customer relations-related criteria are regarded as more important than freight criterion by shippers and consignees.

Abstract:
The purpose of the paper is to improve the activities of a transport and forwarding enterprise in the delivery of goods by road transport in international traffic. The process of interaction between freight forwarders and service customers, taking into account their individual characteristics as business entities and service requirements was researched. The proposed development will allow managers of transport and forwarding enterprises to plan workforce provision, considering the duration of service for different customer categories. Methods. The determination of the duration and reliability of transport and forwarding services to customers in organizing international transportation was carried out based on a simulation model developed in the GPSS software environment. Results. The performance indicators of transport and forwarding enterprises depend on the efficiency of work organization by specialists within the enterprise, their interaction with customers, and involved intermediary organizations. The staff size of freight forwarders should be planned by the enterprise management, taking into account the flow of orders for service. Considering the main stages of transport and forwarding service to customers and the duration of their execution, the developed simulation model allows determining the following indicators: average service time, average queue waiting time, average queue length, the share of orders serviced without waiting in line, probability of service refusal, service reliability, load coefficient of freight forwarders, average number of occupied freight forwarders, enterprise throughput, and the number of freight forwarders needed for staffing the enterprise. Scientific novelty. The developed simulation model of a transport and forwarding enterprise's operation allows planning the work of a business entity based on the implementation of organizational and managerial measures to increase its competitiveness. Unlike the existing ones, the proposed model allows to study the structure of the flow of orders and the range of cargoes that arrive for service, which will ensure the possibility of planning the staffing of forwarders; to distribute the functional responsibilities of forwarders and forecast the duration of certain types of work. Practical significance. The practical significance of the paper lies in the fact that the proposed model allows evaluating the performance indicators of a transport and forwarding enterprise in organizing the export and import of goods for various customer categories. Based on the simulation results, the enterprise owner will be able to form workforce provision based on customer needs for service duration and reliability. In addition, a systematic approach to the organization of business processes will ensure significant competitive advantages of the enterprise in the market of transport and forwarding services.

Abstract:
Background: Due to the absence of unified global regulations, defining the service and legal role of freight forwarders is challenging. This, as well as the lack of a standardized limit to the freight forwarder’s liability for loss or damage to the cargo, introduces misunderstandings into his relationship with the client. The purpose of this study is to analyze the most widely used limit for freight forwarder’s liability, set in Special Drawing Rights (SDR) units, and to adjust it, which will allow for maintaining the purchasing power of the compensation amount over different periods of time. Methods: In this study, two methods of adjusting the liability limit were proposed. In accordance with the first one, the limit was adjusted considering the impact of dollar inflation on the SDR unit. The second method involves changes in the limit of liability, taking into account changes in world prices for goods. Results: The result of this study showed that the second method is more functional, helping to preserve the purchasing power of the liability limit most effectively over time. Conclusions: This study revealed the fluctuating purchasing power of the forwarder’s liability limit over time and suggests utilizing a methodology tied to changes in global goods’ prices for adjustment.

Logistical friendliness (unfriendliness) refers to the ease (difficulty) of arranging international freight operations to/from a particular country. The present paper builds upon previous research by 1) examininglogistical friendliness and unfriendliness as two different constructs (rather than as opposite ends of the same continuum), and 2) linking the delineation of logistically friendly and unfriendly countries with the reasons for friendliness (unfriendliness). The study results could be quite valuable with corporate decisions as to which countries to do business in, as well as with the appropriate organizational strategies for entering the chosen countries.

In this paper, the focus is on the role of the municipality, as an enabler of a collaboration between freight forwarders and the municipality in which the consolidation of goods is considered as a means for goods flow improvement in urban freight transportation. We present a cost allocation model that is based on solution concepts from cooperative game theory, for allocating the operational costs associated with the collaboration. It is assumed that the municipality is willing to carry some cost to ensure a stable collaboration for the potential benefits received, e.g., reduced traffic congestion in the city. The model is applied to some illustrative examples, and the cost allocation results are discussed. It is shown that the role of the municipality may be decisive in achieving a stable collaboration between the freight forwarders, and further that the municipality does not necessarily need to contribute to covering the costs.

By addressing issues & well-being of key stakeholders, social sustainability may offer operational advantages and benefit society at large. However, due to gaps in current knowledge, it is challenging to determine which practices will be beneficial and which managerial orientations will maximize effect of these practices upon operational performance. Study aimed to determine the mediating role of societal behaviors of employees amid social sustainability orientation and operational performance of freight forwarders. It recognizes strength of forces that oppose social change. Data was collected on complex questionnaire from freight forwarders, managers across developing country and analyzed through SEM using AMOS (23). Paper confirmed the mediating role of employee societal behavior amid socially sustainable freight transport orientation and operational performance. Findings suggest that SSI should be designed and implemented through positive behavioral changes, with the organization's employees themselves as primary target. It is the employees’ positive attitudes and behaviors that translate SSI into effective operational performance.

Indonesia is one of the countries with the largest population in the world. With such a significant total population, the economic growth of its people is also expected to increase substantially. International trade plays a central role in driving global economic growth. Export, as one of the main pillars of international trade, makes a significant contribution to national income while accelerating economic growth. Freight forwarders play a vital role in facilitating these highly complex export activities. This research aims to analyze the role of freight forwarder services in supporting the success of export activities via sea transportation at PT. Freight Solution Indonusa. The research method used is qualitative descriptive, with data collection techniques through interviews and observations. The results show that PT. Freight Solution Indonusa has proven capable of contributing to export activities by responsibly handling the entire process of transporting goods, including shipment, document management, and customs clearance. Shipping via sea transportation has become the backbone of international trade due to the numerous advantages it offers exporters, such as lower logistics costs and cargo flexibility. With the increasing export activities in Indonesia, competition among logistics companies is becoming more competitive. PT. Freight Solution Indonusa needs to improve and evaluate its role as a freight forwarding company to maintain or even enhance the quality of its services.
