Full textThis report will cover the work process behind creating a spectrum analyzer. The reader will be able to read about the chosen method but also the alternative methods. Apart from this the theoretical parts behind every moment will also be covered and compared to potential alternative solutions. The project has been carried out on behalf of KA Automation. The purpose of the project was to create a base for analyzing sound frequencies. The goal was to be able to identify sound properties in the form of frequencies in servo motors in for example water pumps. The idea was to be able to in a later development stage be able to identify when new frequencies have entered the audio profile which might result in the motor to be in need of service. The base is created with the help of C# and the sound library NAudio. From the result one can conclude that this program can analyze sound and display the magnitude of its frequency components and is therefore a suitable base for future development.

Full textThis report investigates function and problems with a pin-disc machine used at the KTH Department of Machine Design. This machine is used for research on the wear of brake discs and pads. The machine reveals an uneven behavior at certain operating conditions, which are investigated in this report. The results have not been verified by actual physical testing. What has emerged from the analysis are problems that occurs at frequencies much higher than the machine's speed but is a result of its harmonic behavior. The problem can be primarily identified around 80 Hz. Structural modifications to reduce the problems are also presented.

Full textWhen models are used to describe physical phenomenon during development or modification of a technical system, it is often possible to reduce both the time needed and the overall development cost. With the use of models it is also possible to investigate the potential of the selected solution, without the need for any expensive details and testrigs. In many cases it is also not possible to test all the aspects regarding the functionality that are desired from the system, without using the complete and final product.
In this case a model based approach has been used to optimize the different parameters in the new snubbing mechanism for the Nose Landing Gear Retract Actuator on the JAS39 Gripen.
During the simulations, upper and lower boundaries were calculated for the length of the spring and the diameter for the restrictor. The governing constraints were given by the requirements for the retraction time during cold conditions and that the amplitude of the alternating loads in the uplock mechanism were brought to an acceptable level.
The most promising results from the simulations were then used in a limited number of trials in the hydraulic rig to verify that the configurations comply with the requirements.
The final parameters for the snubbing mechanism were chosen to 35±1mm for the spring and 0.4-0.5 mm diameter for the restrictor.

Full textUltrasonic thickness gauging of steel tubes is typically performed by observing the time difference between two following echoes. This process is often connected to various problems regarding interference. This thesis describes how to avoid these problems by using signal processing and analyzing the signals in the frequency domain. To achieve these results a signal model that describes the necessary effects is derived. From this model different measurement methods to analyze and determine the thickness are developed. One of the methods proved to be useful.

Full textThe population in the Stockholm region has increased in the last few decades and this population increase is expected to continue in the future. Increased urbanization normally means that the fraction of impervious surfaces increases. On impervious surfaces such as roofs, roads and parking lots water cannot infiltrate the ground but run off as surface runoff. An increased fraction of impervious surfaces is therefore assumed to result in higher and faster runoff, especially at heavy rainfall, which increases the risk of flooding. In Stockholm county the ongoing climate change is expected to result in increased precipitation, especially in winter, and extreme precipitation events are also expected to become more common. In this study I investigate the connection between the degree of urbanization, measured both as population density and as the fraction of impervious surfaces, and the size of the yearly peak flows in Hagbyån near Vallentuna from the second half of the 20th century until today. Impervious surfaces are defined in this study as buildings, roads, rail roads and paths and calculated based on the property map (fastighetskartan) which represents the present day and the economical map (ekonomiska kartan) which represents the beginning of the study period. The recurrence interval of the annual peak flows was calculated from the daily flow values at Skällnora hydrological station using frequency analysis according to the three methods the Weibull method, the Gringorten method and the Gumbel method. The study area has, as expected, become more urbanized during the study period. Both the population in the municipalities and the population in the largest town in the study area have increased and the fraction of impervious surfaces has nearly doubled from the beginning of the study period until today. Despite this the size of the annual peak flows has diminished. When the size of the 100-year flow at the Skällnora station is calculated based on the yearly peak flows of first half of the study period the 100-year flow is 3,9 m3/s but when the yearly peak flows from the second half of the study period are used the 100-year flow is 2,4 m3/s. The largest annual peak flows have become more rare. This contradicts the expected result which was that the annual peak flows would increase when the fraction of impervious surfaces increased. This result is not due to reduced precipitation. This study did not include an analysis of changes in evapotranspiration over time in the area. A warmer climate with less snow and a shift of the precipitation pattern to more precipitation in winter might be part of the explanation.
