 This article deals with the issue of literary re-translation, its causes and characteristics. The analysis is illustrated by means of examples mainly derived from Swedish literary texts that have been translated and retranslated into French. This article is a study of early literary theory and practice in Renaissance England, which focuses specifically on Shakespeare’s language use. The end of the sixteenth century in England experienced a linguistic revolution as Latin was gradually replaced by vernacular English. The article explores the relationship between French and Italian cinema on the example of the comedy genre of the late 1940s-1950s. In France, this interaction was made through the dialogue with the tradition of the silent comic cinema and pantomime, discoveries in the field of sound score, convergence with the genre of cloak and sword drama and costume movies. Born to a Croatian father in Constantinople and educated in Vienna, August Adelburg (1830–1873) was a true cosmopolitan. His explicitly “national opera” about Miklós Zrínyi (c1508–1566), a Hungarian national hero of Croatian origins, was premiered in Hungarian translation on 23 June 1868 in the National Theater in Pest. The libretto (originally in German, and adapted by the composer from a drama by Theodor Körner) includes a preface that adumbrates a wholesale theory of cosmopolitanized national opera, as it were.
