Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to create a reliable nonlinear magnetic equivalent circuit (NMEC) of the hybrid magnetic bearing (HMB). Commonly used magnetic equivalent circuits of HMB omit a saturation effect of the magnetic material as well as the leakage and fringing flux. It results in imprecise modelling of the magnetic field distribution. On the other hand, only 3D finite element analysis (FEA) can be used to precisely simulate the magnetic field in this type of the magnetic bearing. The proposed NMEC incorporates the saturation effect of the magnetic material, as well as the leaka

This study utilized a shock-capturing Boussinesq model FUNWAVE-TVD to investigate the maximum momentum flux in the solitary wave run-up zone over back-reef slopes. Validation results of the present model were compared to the previous version of FUNWAVE using the eddy viscosity breaking model to demonstrate the advantages of the shock-capturing method in predicting the breaking solitary wave transformation and run-up over fringing reefs. A series of numerical experiments was designed comprehensively and performed then to obtain a new formulation for the envelope of the spatial distribution of t

Purpose This paper aims to propose a novel mathematical model of bearingless switched reluctance motor (BSRM). This model differs from conventional mathematical models in the calculation of torque and suspension forces. Conventional mathematical models neglect the coupling relationship between the α- and β-axes or ignore the magnetic saturation of the Si-Fe material. This study considers these issues simultaneously. Additionally, considering the air-gap edge effect, the fringing coefficient is used to establish a high-precision mathematical model. Design/methodology/approach An innovative math

To improve the efficiency of contactless power transmission (CPT) and the operation stability of ultrasonic vibration system, an improved design method for key parts of the contactless power transmission system was proposed and studied. By integrating both inductor model and mutual inductance model, as well as considering the fringing flux effect introduced by the air gap, this design method would be more accurate and reasonable. Considering constraint conditions, such as the operating flux density of the core, mutual inductance between primary and secondary coils, electrical signals loaded on

The objective of this report is to investigate the fringing flux around the air gap of a high frequency reactor and what correlation it has with losses, air gap length and frequency. A computer model is made using a finite element analysis software and a prototype reactor is built and tested on to verify the model. Variables such as air gap length, ripple frequency and current are changed in order to investigate different relationships. Results show that the computer model is sufficiently valid, and that trends regarding core losses versus frequency and air gap length correlates with theory. From t

In industrial drives market, speed and position estimation are one of the most important subjects for accurate motor drives. Vector controlled drives has the best dynamic performance among AC motor drives. Sensorless vector control is one of the most studied one. However, sensorless drive systems fail at low or zero speeds and may not have enough accuracy. For better accuracy and speed range speed sensors or position encoders are usually essential. However, coupling of sensor and sensor prices introduces extra cost on the drive. Thus in order to reduce the cost of the drive a cheap and easy to

Abstract Direct numerical simulation (DNS), based on solution of the Navier Stokes equations, is used to study the characteristics of the transformation of monochromatic waves over a simplified fringing reef, including wave shoaling, and wave breaking that occurs under certain circumstances. The reef geometry involves a sloped plane beach extended with a simple submerged horizontal reef flat. The characteristics are studied for several case studies involving a selection of submergence depths on the reef flat and for a range of incident wave conditions, corresponding to nonbreaking, a spilling

Abstract Active magnetic bearings (AMBs) are being increasingly utilized in industrial applications due to their advantages over conventional bearings. They offer very low friction and wear, variable stiffness and damping, and greater tolerance of rotating mass imbalance. These unique features of AMBs have enabled design of robust rotating machinery at much higher speed with higher power concentration. The present work discusses the design of a high temperature magnetic bearing for operation at an axial thrust load of 4448N, speed 20000 rpm and temperature 538°C. Various disk profiles were con
