Abstract:
The most prominent representative of the doctors of Central Asia was Abu Ali Ibn-Sina (known in Europe as Avicenna), the largest doctor of the Middle Ages and one of the most prominent doctors in world history. He was born in 980 in the village of Afshana near the city of Bukhara. At the age of five, his parents transported him to Bukhara, where his studies began. From the teachers and from the books of the rich Bukhara library of the Samanids, Ibn-Sina received all the knowledge known by that time. However, Ibn Sina studied medicine deeper and most thoroughly. In his autobiography dictated by him, he said: "I took up the study of medicine, replenishing my reading with observations of patients, which taught me many methods of treatment that cannot be found in books."

The article describes the activities of the public catering system during the years of Soviet rule the policy pursued in this regard, logistics, problems and needs of the population in this regard. During the years of Soviet rule, new directions of the public catering system were formed. The management and supply system has changed. A number of reforms in the system have played an important role in over the years in the quality, cost and conditions for catering services in large industrial enterprises and educational institutions. The measures taken in the 60s and 70s of the twentieth century to develop the public catering system and the lack of attention to the solution of existing problems in the scope of work did not meet the growing demands of the population on the system at that time.

Abstract:
This is an adapted form of a paper read as the Hasan Balyuzi Memorial Lecture at the Thirteenth Annual Conference of the Association of Bahá’í Studies in 1988. This paper considers the challenges caused by the influx of Third World villagers into the Bahá’í world community. The author examines what light a study of the history of the Bahá’í Faith can shed upon this phenomenon. In particular, he examines the way in which a study of Bahá’í history can assist with the problems of how to adapt our presentations of the Bahá’í Faith to the context of different cultures; how to adapt our methods of presenting the Bahá’í teachings; and how to accelerate the process of realizing these teachings in the lives of the villagers.

Abstract:
Anthropological genetics is an oddly liminal field—not quite anthropology, yet not quite genetics either. Anthropologists are trained to be attuned to the people they work with; without the goodwill of its objects, the profession cannot exist—but one does not have to secure the goodwill of the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, to study its DNA haplotypes in depth. Geneticists, however, are more prestigious and better funded—and what scientist doesn't aspire to that?

Abstract:
Approximately 6 months ago, as COVID-19 became the focus of our day-to-day life, it was constantly referred to as unprecedented. In fact, this word has been used to describe almost everything that has subsequently occurred. Unprecedented of course means ‘without previous instance, never before known or experienced’. At the same time the general thrust of many headlines in the media was to cast SARS-CoV-2 as a killer virus wreaking havoc on an undeserving and unsuspecting population.

Abstract:
Abstract In this paper, I would like to show that Koselleck’s thesis on the dissolution of the topos historia magistra vitae in modernity is open to certain objections, to the extent that one finds in modernity a number of practical conceptions of history which are “useful for life”. My own thesis is that the topos of history as the “Guide to Life” is not so much dissolved as rather transformed with modernity, and in a sense which has to be specified. This point of view will be defended with reference to European authors of the nineteenth century (I focus on the examples of Droysen and Nietzsche), though I will add some observations on the twentieth century in the last part of the paper.
