"Unravelling the dynamics of behavioral loyalty: A model for domestic tourists exploring Terengganu." Abstract:
This study examines a model for domestic tourists exploring Terengganu. The Terengganu Tourism Department is tasked with increasing tourist numbers, enhancing their expenditures through heightened allure and superior services, creating an indelible experiential milieu, and establishing Terengganu as a prominent destination. However, recent statistics depict Terengganu as experiencing a diminutive influx of domestic tourists and corresponding tourism receipts compared to other states. In 2018, Terengganu ranked ninth in domestic tourist visitations and associated receipts. Hence, this study aims to ascertain the determinants influencing behavioral loyalty among domestic tourists towards Kuala Terengganu. Data collection transpired through an online questionnaire deployed via Google Forms, synchronized with the global advent of COVID-19, which precipitated ramifications across nations. Respondents included domestic tourists visiting Kuala Terengganu. Data analysis involved 201 respondents, using structural equation modeling. The empirical findings describe that the attractiveness of the destination substantiates a discernible impact on tourist satisfaction. Furthermore, the outcomes highlight that tourist satisfaction exerts a noteworthy influence on eWord-of-mouth (eWOM) and behavioral loyalty. The findings indicate that tourist satisfaction comprehensively mediates the relationship between destination attractiveness and both eWOM and behavioral loyalty. It asserts that Kuala Terengganu’s distinctiveness from competing Malaysian destinations is facilitated by destination attractiveness, involving recreational amenities, leisure facilities, infrastructural attributes, and overall appeal. Consequently, proficient promotional strategies can be devised by Tourism Terengganu, accentuating the advantageous and captivating features of Kuala Terengganu’s attractions. These aspects are strategically tailored to resonate with the cognitive and emotional assessments of domestic tourists, instigating a proclivity to recurrently choose Kuala Terengganu as their preferred travel destination.

Abstract:
The concern felt by Sultan Zainal Abidin III (1881-1918) (“the Sultan”) over the entry of a British agent in Terengganu pursuant to the agreement entered into between Terengganu and Great Britain on 22 April 1910 had led to the enactment of Itqân al-Mulûk bi Ta’dîl Al-sulûk, or the Law for the Self-Government of Terengganu, on 2 November 1911. The Sultan attempted to protect Terengganu from foreign interference despite having to abide by the terms of the said agreement, which required a British agent to be stationed in Terengganu. The establishment of the said law appears to be an attempt to maintain the dominance of the local government in Terengganu’s governmental system, and this move also affected its socio-economic development throughout the stated period. The interesting element about this law is the presence of a very strong Islamic influence, which shows that the Sultan strictly adhered to the teachings of Islam during his reign in Terengganu. This study aimed to analyse the extent to which the presence of British agents in Terengganu had influenced the actions and thinking of Sultan Zainal Abidin III in enacting and establishing Itqân al-Mulûk bi Ta’dîl Al-sulûk. It also aimed to examine how far Itqân al-Mulûk bi Ta’dîl Al-sulûk played a role in empowering the political and socio-economic sectors in Terengganu during the specified period and the extent to which the teachings of Islam embedded within it were used to protect and preserve the sovereignty of Terengganu against British intervention at the time. This research adopted a qualitative method that involved the collection and analysis of data from primary sources obtained from the Terengganu State Museum and the National Archives of Malaysia, such as the Manuscript of Itqân al-Mulûk bi Ta’dîl Al-sulûk, CO 840/1 (Terengganu Administration Report, 1910-1930), CO 840/2 (Terengganu Administration Report 1931-1940), The Terengganu Secretary of State File, and the Terengganu British Advisor File. In addition, secondary sources such as journals, books, chapters of books, and magazines were also used to further reinforce the study conducted. The findings proved that the enactment of Itqân al-Mulûk bi Ta’dîl Al-sulûk managed to fortify the political system in Terengganu, which projected a very strong image of Islam. In fact, it is this strengthening of the political system which led to the development of the economy, due to the availability of stable sources of income for the Malay farmers and female entrepreneurs at the time.

Abstract:
Background: In Terengganu, healthcare workers (HCW) face similar risk of exposure to COVID-19 as other settings in Malaysia and globally. This study aimed to describe the current situation of COVID-19 among HCW in Terengganu state. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in Terengganu state of Malaysia among healthcare workers based on retrospective record review. The inclusion criteria were HCW working in Terengganu’s public healthcare facilities with laboratory reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) confirmed positive test for COVID-19 and notified to Terengganu State Health Department from 1st March 2020 until 30th September 2021. Descriptive statistics were employed for statistical analysis. Result: As of 30th September 2021, there were 919 HCW infected with COVID-19. The mean (±SD) of samples’ age and RT-PCR cycle threshold (Ct) value was 36 (±7) and 24.87 (±7.86), respectively. Majority of infected HCW in Terengganu were female (74.5%), from job category of nurses (38.7%) followed by medical doctors (19.6%), not directly involved in COVID-19 cases management (72.3%), symptomatic (61.2%), diagnosed as Category 2 COVID-19 (52.4%) followed by Category 1 COVID-19 (47.2%), and had no comorbidity (91.0%). Conclusion: COVID-19 commonly involved personnel related to clinical work (doctors and nurses). Screening and diagnosis of COVID-19 among HCW was early as depicted by relatively low mean RT-PCR CT value and therefore averted progression to severe COVID-19 stages (Category 4 and Category 5).

Abstract:
Government bodies play an important role in generating a balanced development of a state. In fact, the development of a society is also closely related to the systems and policies that have been established by a government body. This happens because the government body is one of the main agents and driving tools in changing society from a static and traditional to a more developed and progressive society. Therefore, this article aims to see the extent of the role played by government bodies such as Terengganu Town Council (Majlis Bandaran Terengganu), Terengganu Arts and Craft Society (TACS), Malayan Art and Craft Society (MACS), Malayan Agri-Horticultural Association (M.A.H.A), British Empire Exhibition (B.E.E) and the Trade and Industry's Office in helping the Malay enterprise and business activities in Terengganu from 1900 to 1941. This study used a qualitative method which had involved collecting and analysing data from primary sources obtained from the National Archives of Malaysia such as CO 840/1 (Terengganu Administration Report, 1910-1930), CO 840/2 (Terengganu Administration Report 1931-1940), Terengganu State Secretary File, and British Adviser Terengganu File. In addition, secondary sources such as journals, books, book chapters, and magazines were also utilised to further strengthen the study conducted. The results of the study found that the existence of various government bodies in Terengganu managed to play a significant role in developing Malay enterprises and businesses in Terengganu from 1900 to 1941.

Abstract:
This article is a preliminary study using systematic analysis of literature review for politics and election studies in Terengganu. Based on Table 1, the party that ruled Terengganu had changed thrice from 1959 to 2018. This started from the first general election until the 14th general election. At the beginning of 1959, Terengganu is governed by the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS; Parti Islam Se-Malaysia). Nevertheless, the state ruling was taken over by Perikatan or BN in 1964 to 1995 and was seized by PAS in 1999. In 2004, BN managed to occupy the government seat once more, but it lasted for only 15 years compared to the years before because, in 2018, PAS managed to win the hearts of the Terengganu people to rule the state back again. The purpose of this study is to identify the number of studies and research themes in the studies on politics and election in Terengganu. Apart from that, the voting pattern in Terengganu from 1959 to 2018 is also included as the basis of knowledge about the election in Terengganu. Abstract:
Every learning tradition began with a history, as it did with the study of Qur’anic tarannum (the study of the rhythmic recitations of the holy book). Based on the historical documents reviewed, it was found that no prior studies have been made specifically on the development of Qur’anic tarannum studies in Terengganu. This article, therefore, presents some of the contributing factors that have introduced the study of Qur'anic tarannum in Terengganu. The data comprised historical materials and interviews with some notable figures in the field of Qur’anic tarannum and 35 other Qur’anic reciters from the state of Terengganu. They were also past champions of the Qur’anic Recital Competition of Terengganu from 1960 . The study found that among the important factors and influences towards the spread of tarannum practices in Terengganu were the Arab traders, the governing institutions, the Middle East students, the roles played by the tarannum teachers and the public’s commitment at studying tarannum.

Abstract:
This study aimed to examine the extent to which industrial activities namely textile, copper and boat industries carried out by the Malay community in Terengganu from 1900 to 1941 were able to increase the income of theMalay community and the state itself. Many previous studies that had been conducted on Terengganu only focused on commercial economic activities such as mining, rubber cultivation and fisheries. However, how the changes and developments experienced by theMalay community in Terengganu stem from the development of industrial activities thatinvolved handicrafts entirely had been rarely studied. This study used a qualitative method that involved the collection and analysis of data from primary sources obtained from the National Archives of Malaysia such as CO 840/1 (Terengganu Administration Report, 1910-1930), CO 840/2 (Terengganu Administration Report 1931-1940), Terengganu State Secretary File and Terengganu British Adviser File. In addition, secondary sources were also used such as journals, books, book chapters and magazines to further strengthen the study conducted. The findings of the study found that the industrial economy from 1900 to 1941 was one of the most important activities in Terengganu along with the commercial economy such as mining, rubber cultivation and fisheries. In fact, the industrial activities carried out by the Malay community also contributed to the income of many entrepreneurs and increased the state's economic income at that time.

Abstract:
Terengganu has a large coastal and wetland area where it provides habitat for edible mollusc. The edible molluscs are one of the most important sources of animal protein for the local communities. The distribution of edible molluscs was studied in six districts of the Terengganu coastal waters between August 2020 and March 2022. In each district, samples were purchased from the wet market, fishing villages and roadside outlets every four months interval. A total of 1,043 individuals was observed and 23 species of edible molluscs were recorded from six districts of Terengganu representing 11 families. Bivalves were found to be dominated by 14 species from seven families. The family Cyrenidae (bivalve) was widespread in five districts where Geloina expansa, was recorded in almost all districts. Meanwhile, for gastropods, nine species from four families were found where Ellobiidae (gastropod) was dominant and the most common gastropod species was Faunus ater, which was found in four locations in Terengganu. These species have great commercial value in Terengganu districts as they are sought extensively as food by the locals and also represent one of their sources of financial survival, especially for those living near to coastal areas. This baseline study could serve as a future indicator for the sustainable management of fisheries resources and for further ecological studies.

Abstract:
The reign of Sultan Sulaiman Badrul Alam Shah (1920-1942) was a remarkable period in the history of Terengganu. Sultan Sulaiman not merely focused on the fishing industry, but recognised the importance of diversifying the economic activities of Terengganu, a state known for its primary coastal economic activities. The British Assistant Adviser posted in Terengganu, Major H.S. Peterson, confirmed in the early 1930s that the economic development of Terengganu had been proceeding smoothly. This situation indicated that the Sultan was aware of the importance of a more diversified economy to reduce dependence on a single industry for the sustainability of the state and its people. Hence, the aim of this article was to explore the extent of economic success in Terengganu during his reign in the 20th century. In addition, it assessed the development of the textile, copper, and boat industries and how Sultan Sulaiman’s involvement and actions established them as significant economic forces in Terengganu during the stated period. The study employed a qualitative method that involved the collection and analysis of data from primary sources obtained from the National Archives (Kew Garden), namely CO 840/1 (Terengganu Administration Report, 1920-1930) and CO 840/2 (Terengganu Administration Report, 1931-1940). The files of the Secretary State for Terengganu (1920-1942) were also used and obtained from the National Archives of Malaysia and the Terengganu Branch of the National Archives. Furthermore, secondary sources such as journals, books, book chapters, and magazines were used to corroborate the study. The research findings indicate that Sultan Sulaiman, despite being the son of Sultan Zainal Abidin III, successfully forged his own leadership identity and credentials. He even encouraged women to get involved in various economic fields at that time. Moreover, the education system, especially in the textile industry, was emphasised due to the interest of his queen, Tengku Ampuan Mariam, in the handicrafts produced by the people of Terengganu.

Terengganu Malay community’s response on the non-dominant political party other than UMNO and PAS are less encouraging. This can be seen based on the results of elections held in Terengganu. Even though other parties like Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) also participated and won several seats in elections in Terengganu, the support on the party is still inconsistent compared to UMNO and PAS. This is because the Malay community in Terengganu is not bound by any influential political party in determining their future. Abstract:
Faqih Ali Dato’ Maharaja is a well-known figure among local historians, particularly among those who study prominent religious scholars in Southeast Asia. His descendants contributed significantly to promoting the sustainability of Islamic teaching in Terengganu. Islam was upheld as the principle of Terengganu's sovereignty, forming the basis of its constitutional system, thus legitimizing the position of Sharia as the law of the land. This was manifested on the Inscribed Stone dated 4 Rejab 702H. Nevertheless, the role of the descendants of Faqih Ali have not been a focal point in academic writing. The paucity of literature and elucidation within this domain serves as the basis for this study. This article aims to investigate the role of prominent religious scholars of Faqih Ali Dato’ Maharaja's descent in upholding the implementation of Sharia in the Terengganu Sultanate until the Independence Day of Tanah Melayu in 1957. This study is qualitative in nature and employs historical research methods. Data were obtained from archival documents, government publications, field research, and secondary sources. Findings show that the preservation of the Sharia legacy in Terengganu since the discovery of the Inscribed Stone was influenced significantly by the substantial contributions of religious scholars who were also the administrators of Faqih Ali Dato’ Maharaja’s descent, evidenced by the legislation of Itqanul Muluk bi Ta'dil al-Suluk in 1911 and its extension, the Terengganu State Constitution. Hence, the practice of Sharia before 1957, was not confined to personal affairs as understood by many; by virtue of the Federal Constitution, the public affairs of Sharia are now entrusted to public authorities at the federal level unless those matters are retained in the state administration.

This article discusses the contents of 17 letters from Sultan Mansur Shah I, the Sultan of Terengganu, are preserved in the library of the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London with the reference number SOAS MS 40320. Written in Malay using Arabic script, these were sent between 1785 and 1794. The contents discuss the political history of Terengganu involving foreign relations with the Siamese and the British. The Siamese were a continuous threat to Terengganu, especially after the Siamese conquest of Patani in 1785. Therefore, Terengganu sought to establish diplomatic relations with the British East India Company to protect it from the Siamese invasion. However, the attempt was unsuccessful due to the East India Company’s principle of non-involvement in Malay affairs. In terms of economy, Terengganu had trade links with Palembang, which supplied pepper and tin, as well as with ports in Java and Borneo. Terengganu also had trade relations with China and India. The Sultan of Terengganu employed a royal merchant, Saudagar Nasruddin, to manage his trade. British ships were used to carry pilgrims to Mecca through ports in Pulau Pinang and India. The letters also discuss the lineage of Sultan Mansur Shah I, which closely links him to the Johor and Patani sultanates. The entire contents of these letters have helped to provide more detailed information on the politics and economy of the Terengganu sultanate in the late 18th century.

Abstract The collection of the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM), in Kuala Lumpur, includes over forty manuscript copies of Dalāʾil al-Khayrāt, the compilation of prayers and blessings for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by Imam al-Jazūlī. The copies derive from the original source of the manuscript, Morocco, to as far as Southeast Asia and China. Five were produced in different parts of the Malay world, namely Patani, Terengganu, Aceh, and Java. This article examines the royal Terengganu manuscript of Dalāʾil al-Khayrāt, revealing its distinctive bookmaking technique and arrangement of its contents, as well as its special decorative style. It aims to understand the cultural setting within which such manuscripts were produced. It also looks at the personification of scholarly figures from nineteenth-century Terengganu—in particular Sayyid Muḥammad ibn Zain al-ʿĀbidīn al-ʿAydarūs (Tok Ku Tuan Besar), who is possibly the scribe of this royal manuscript—and their relationship with scholars in Hijaz.

Abstract:
Objective: This study assesses women's awareness and understanding of the policy to support its implementation, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5), which aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women. Theoretical Framework: The esteemed position of women is emphasized in Sharia texts and Islamic legislation, which safeguard women's rights and dignity. Terengganu Women's Policy (DWT) aims to holistically institutionalize Islamic law, positioning women as pivotal to state development while aligning with Sharia principles. Method: This study assesses women's awareness and understanding of the policy to support its implementation. A survey involving 400 women from eight districts in Terengganu, complemented by focused group discussions with women's organizations and stakeholders, forms the basis of this research. Results and Discussion: Findings reveal that women significantly contribute to Terengganu’s development alongside men. They demonstrate high awareness of Sharia compliance, with strong knowledge, acceptance, and practice levels. Similarly, understanding of Women’s Fiqh, including self-development and socio-economic rights, is elevated, reflecting the impact of the state’s robust religious education system. These findings reinforce the importance of SDG 5 in advocating for gender equality within the Sharia framework. Research Implications: The results highlight the need for collaborative initiatives among government bodies, Nongovernment Organizations (NGOs), and educational institutions to sustain Sharia-based lifestyles and address societal challenges. Originality/Value: Empowering women within this framework enhances governance and social cohesion. This study underscores that integrating women into the Sharia agenda is essential for fostering a holistic, prosperous society in Terengganu.

The main objective is to study water resources management on sediment problems in the Terengganu River Basin. The Gravimetric method was used to analysis the TSS measured in mg/L. 250 ml water sample was needed for each study area (each station). Based on the cross section trend and the average downstream and middle section of the Sungai Terengganu system, the average TSS level is higher than the upper section. The minimum width allocation of river reserves to control development near the river is based on the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID). Finally, there are a few recommendations of sedimentation management around Terengganu River Basin that will improve the river water quality, especially in Malaysia.

Abstract:
Many colonial British officers considered the Terengganu people as different from Muslims in other Malay states. They were considered as the most pious among the Muslims in Malaysia. They refused to accept British administration due to the influence of the scholars leadership in their lives. The attitude of the Terengganu people towards the British was due to the influence of scholars efforts, especially Tok Ku Paloh, who launched the Islah Movement to establish firmly the tenets of Islam among the population so that they did not stray from Islamic principles even after they were colonised by the British. He directed his efforts to all levels of society, the common people as well as the ruling class of Terengganu. This research is for the purpose of studying the role played by Tok Ku Paloh in his efforts to entrench the principles of Islam and prepare the people of Terengganu to face the threat of British occupation. This research is a qualitative research using historical study approach. Research finds that Tok Ku Paloh played a big role in implementing islah (revival) to entrench Islamic principles among the Terengganu population both through his own endeavour and his students, especially Sultan Zainal Abidin III who was in ruling power from 1881 to 1918. He succeeded in forming the next echelon of scholars, such as Haji Abdul Rahman Limbong who played the main role in continuing the endeavour to entrench Islam among the people of Terengganu. Scholars were also responsible for organising the reaction of the Terengganu people against British colonisation after the demise of Tok Ku Paloh and Sultan Zainal Abidin III.

Abstract:
Background and Purpose: One of the eminent Malay dialects on the east coast is the Terengganu dialect which is argued to have some linguistic peculiarities. The prominent characteristics are nasal modification, nasal deletion, fricative modification, liquid deletion and monophthongization. These dialectal features are very much different from the standard Malay.&#x0D; &#x0D; Methodology: This research involved a fieldwork at 52 village points with the participation of 500 informants. They were interviewed and requested to fill in the questionnaires. &#x0D; &#x0D; Findings: The findings prove that the Terengganu dialectal features are widely used and progressed to southward. Hence the distribution overtly formed a continuum of Terengganu dialect. Non-linguistic factors such as history, socioeconomics and topography also play essential roles in regulating the distribution of this dialect. Historically, Terengganu was regarded as the centre of civilization with the discovery of the inscription stone as early as 1303AD. Its sea served as the silk road for the Chinese merchants. In addition, Terengganu people were expert in making vessels and they are skillful sailors as well. Furthermore, the flatlands along the coast amplifies the movement and dissemination of this dialect.&#x0D; &#x0D; Contributions: A geolinguistic study presented in this article provides some novel insights into how the Terengganu dialect dispersed, and the dialect continuum was formed using GIS technology. &#x0D; &#x0D; Keywords: Dialect continuum, east-coast, geolinguistics, Terengganu dialect, topography.&#x0D; &#x0D; Cite as: Jalaluddin, N. Abstract:
This study is about the political culture of the Malays. It discusses the changes in the political culture of the Malays in Terengganu manifested after the occurrence of an event of dismissal of Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy President of UMNO who was Anwar Ibrahim on 2 September 1998. The dismissal has produced a wave of resistance in particular from Malays who disclosed this item for a period of time relatively long until and after the general elections of 1999. General Election 1999 has been highlighting a shift support from UMNO to opposition parties that is so obvious. UMNO suffered the worst performance in the election. This study is also done based on the occurrence of the pattern of voting uncertainty shown in four series of the last elections in Terengganu from 1999 until 2013. This is because the convergence of two Islam-Malay based parties namely UMNO and PAS are very intense. Based on election results post 10th General Election shows that the Terengganu State is no longer secure to any political party contesting the election. Each party is seen to have a chance of a balance to form Government in Terengganu. Findings show that development can act as catalyst for the formation of Malay political culture prior and post 10th General Election. In the post 10th General Election, the Malay communities are aware that development does not suggest that people live in comfort but justice should come together. Other than that, the Malay community in Terengganu do not only uphold the values of Islam, Malay and development but they also embrace other values that can keep pace with current political development. Thus, the need for other values such as justice in new politics is indispensable for political transformation.&#x0D; Keywords: Transformation, Political Culture, Malay Political Culture, New Politics.&#x0D; ABSTRAK: Kajian ini adalah satu kajian mengenai budaya politik Melayu. Ia membincangkan transformasi budaya politik masyarakat Melayu di Terengganu yang dimanifestasikan selepas terjadinya peristiwa pemecatan Anwar Ibrahim pada 2 September 1998. Pemecatan tersebut telah melahirkan satu gelombang penentangan masyarakat Melayu Terengganu terhadap UMNO-BN. Penentangan tersebut dapat dilihat menerusi anjakan sokongan masyarakat Melayu daripada UMNO-BN kepada parti oposisi yang lain dengan begitu jelas khususnya PAS. UMNO telah mengalami prestasi terburuknya dalam pilihan raya tersebut. Kajian ini juga dilakukan berdasarkan kepada berlakunya pola ketidaktentuan pengundian yang ditunjukkan dalam empat siri pilihan raya yang terakhir di Terengganu melibatkan PRU tahun 1999, 2004, 2008 dan PRU tahun 2013. Hal ini kerana pertembungan dua parti Melayu-Islam utama iaitu UMNO dan PAS sangat sengit. Keputusan pilihan raya pasca PRU-10 menunjukkan bahawa Terengganu bukan lagi menjadi negeri selamat buat mana-mana parti politik yang bertanding. Setiap parti dilihat mempunyai peluang yang seimbang untuk membentuk kerajaan di Terengganu. Hasil kajian menunjukan bahawa pembangunan merupakan faktor utama yang mempengaruhi pembentukan budaya politik Melayu di Terengganu sebelum dan selepas PRU ke-10. Namun begitu pasca PRU ke-10 masyarakat Melayu mula melihat bahawa pembangunan bukan lagi semata-mata mengecapi nikmat keselesaan malahan mesti turut disepadukan dengan prinsip keadilan. Pengundi berkecenderungan untuk bertindak dengan memberikan tindakbalas yang negatif kepada kerajaan sekiranya dasar atau pembangunan yang dibawa oleh kerajaan tidak memberikan hasil atau faedah ekonomi kepada pengundi dan sebaliknya. Selain itu juga masyarakat Melayu Terengganu juga tidak lagi hanya mementingkan nilai-nilai yang berkait dengan ketuanan Melayu, Islam dan pembangunan semata-mata malahan telah mengambil satu nilai yang baru selaras dengan perkembangan politik semasa. Keperluan terhadap nilai-nilai dalam politik baru seperti keadilan adalah releven dan diterima serta mempengaruhi transformasi budaya politik mereka.&#x0D; Kata kunci: Transformasi, Budaya Politik, Budaya Politik Melayu, Budaya Politik Baru.&#x0D;

Abstract:
Kata kunci: dialek Terengganu; geolinguistik; isoglos; sorotan dialek; rantaian dialek ABSTRACT The study of dialects, which used to be traditional through the search of phonological differences, has evolved into a geographical study, historical study, and theoretical data sources. Today dialect studies have undergone innovations by synergizing technology in isogloss descriptions and incorporating non-linguistic elements in explaining the spread of the dialect itself. For the sake of this knowledge's continuity, efforts to fill the void of the study of dialect by specializing in the Terengganu dialect have been made. This dialect was once described three decades ago and certainly needed new input. This study aims to re-investigate the Terengganu dialect features, produce isogloss lines that separate the Terengganu and Kelantan dialects and prove this dialect's dominance along the east coast. This study is a field study involving 500 speakers with 64 village points. It involves the elderly, adults and adolescents. All respondents were asked to pronounce forty selected lexicals based on the Swadesh list in addition to interviews to obtain accurate sounds. The study results found that all phonological features remained the same three decades ago; only phonetic inputs and phonological rules were refined to meet linguistic standards. Secondly, the exact isogloss limiting Terengganu and Kelantan's dialects have been successfully mapped along with the exact village points. Finally, there is a chain or continuum of the Terengganu dialect along the east coast from Setiu Laut to Kota Tinggi in Johor. Topographic, historical and socio-cultural factors further strengthen the spread of this dialect along the east coast area. This study has improved the Terengganu dialect description based on the geolinguistics perspective, proving that a multidisciplinary approach can systematically describe this dialect. Abstract:
Solid waste is one of the greatest environmental challenges facing most municipalities in Malaysia. The household sector is the primary source of solid waste in Malaysia, accounting for almost 60% of the total. Other important sources of solid waste include industries, commercials, and institutions. This paper presents the result of the survey among the households in Kuala Terengganu regarding the attitude and participation in Solid Waste Management (SWM). The research argues that to achieve sustainability, public involvement in environmental and solid waste policies is crucial. No programmes or policies can be successful without the involvement of people and grassroots leaders. Thus, this paper will examine household attitudes and participation via a waste recycling programme to deliver a sustainability policy for SWM in Malaysia. To learn more about perceptions and attitudes about waste management, a questionnaire survey was distributed to households in Kuala Terengganu. A list of questions was asked of respondents, such as items from the level of education to personal and social background information. Accordingly, 100 questionnaires were distributed in selected areas in Kuala Terengganu. The survey results indicate a lack of concern among households about participating in recycling activities. The main factors for participation in the recycling programme were educational background, housing conditions, and level of established income. In summary, Terengganu’s SWM system is poor and fragmented. The institutional structure and managerial aspects of SWM are also problematic. As a result, Malaysia’s national SWM strategy is crucial to ensuring its sustainability. Campaigns and educational initiatives are needed to raise public awareness of the issues and effects related to the generation, collection, transportation, and disposal of solid waste.

Abstract:
In 2017, the Terengganu Chinese Peranakan Association (TCPA) withdrew its participation in the 4th Annual Terengganu Peranakan Festival (TPF) organised by the Terengganu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCCI) because of a dispute over the combined term “Mek Awang”. To TCPA members, Mek Awang is a derogatory term, which the Malays used to refer to someone as being “soft”, effeminate, or a cross-dresser. However, TCCCI has appropriated the term Mek Awang and used it as a brand name to promote the festival, and to highlight the “uniqueness” of the Terengganu Peranakan Chinese community. This case is an example of how local cultural terms or practices have been readapted to suit tourism interests. Tourism is often accused of reinventing culture for capital ventures. Consequently, many academics and social critics have come to regard official national heritage sites and heritage tourism with scepticism and disdain. Combining ethnographic data from our in-depth interviews with the Terengganu Peranakan Chinese and our participant observation during the festival, we argue that the dispute over Mek Awang is not only a simple change in reference, but is also an indication of a deeper contemporary global process that affects ethnic minorities and their identities. We conclude that various attempts to commodify the peranakan experiences and culture in Terengganu as well as the intention to place the peranakan as a marketable heritage in Chinatown can be interpreted as attempts to replace a heterogeneous community with a homogeneous, uniform, genetic and identifiable ethnic category with a Peranakan1 (with capital “P”) identity.

Abstract:
A happy family needs to possess a balance between its interior and exterior needs. Such criteria for wellness in the family are also discernable from the voluminous writings of Muslim scholars. However, the reality is, Muslim families nowadays are facing great challenges which have caused moral disintegration, social problems and chaotic economic situations. The government of Terengganu under the “Happy Family Happy Nation” principle in its New Terengganu Transformation initiative has launched 10 special programs to address these challenges. This study aims to analyse the effectiveness of the programs in promoting the wellbeing of families. This paper also offers suggestions for the betterment of the programs, in accordance with the real needs for a happy family. This paper concludes that the programs have partially fulfilled the requirements needed for creating a happy family. Nevertheless, there are several shortcomings that need to be attended to from time to time especially in terms of strategic knowledge, worship, premarital preparation and transportation. Journal of Nusantara Studies, 2(2), 306-318.

The other, T. keciktuek sp. nov. collected along Sungai Peres, is most closely related to T. perhentianensis Grismer, Wood, &amp; Grismer from Pulau (=island) Perhentian Besar. Sympatry and syntopy of multiple, specialized, unrelated, leaf-litter species of Tytthoscincus was previously only known from upland areas and these new species represent the first example of lowland of sympatry. More importantly, however, these endemic species add to a growing body of research and discoveries that continue to underscore the unrealized biodiversity of the riparian systems of Hulu Terengganu and the Sekayu region and their need for protection and continued study.

Abstract:
Different cultures possess particular uniqueness in their culinary styles. Members in a society connect with each other through similar food patterns. People from different cultural backgrounds consume different foods with different culinary styles including ingredients used, preparation methods and consumption habits. Variations in food culture are basically due to different situations faced which vary according to different societies. Religion is perceived to play a part in shaping Kuala Terengganu’s food culture along with availability of food sources, geographical background, and historical background as well as migration. Considering that Kuala Terengganu is a predominantly Muslim district, its local food culture is by any means manifested by the prescription of Shariah Law, which is to consume halalan tayyiban and to bypass haram. This study attempts to review the concept of Istitābat Al-‘Arab pertaining to halal food rulings through various references found in different Quranic verses, hadith and principles. Also in this study, the different interpretations from major denominations in Islam (i.e. Hanafi, Maliki, Shafie and Hanbali) regarding the concept of Istitābat Al-‘Arab are discussed. Hence, this particular paper explains the concept of Istitābat Al-‘Arab in Shariah perspective in shaping Kuala Terengganu’s halal food culture with reference to local food rulings.

Abstract:
<em>Statistical comparison has been performed for Terengganu and Kinta River Basins in terms of surface water pollution status using some selected physico-chemical parameters. Surface water quality data were collected from Department of Environment (DOE) Malaysia and subjected to logarithm transformation (log-scaling), column auto scaling and z-standardization to eliminate the effects of measurement units. Results revealed that pH value is higher in Terengganu River Basin compared to Kinta River Basin. Two-way analysis of variance (2-way ANOVA) showed spatial and temporal statistical significant differences (p&lt;0.05). Hierarchical Agglomerated Cluster Analysis (HACA) revealed two major statistical clusters of water quality monitoring group. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) showed higher value in Terengganu than Kinta River Basins while ammonia-nitrogen (NH3-N) revealed higher value in Kinta compared to Terengganu River Basins. The present study, however, makes several noteworthy contributions to the existing knowledge on spatial and temporal variations of surface water quality and is believed to serve as a baseline data for further studies in surface water pollution.</em>

Abstract:
In the context of politics and elections in Terengganu, Malay community response against the non-dominant political party other than UMNO and PAS are less encouraging. This can be seen based on election results in Terengganu from 1959 until the year 2013. Although other parties such as the National Party, the Parti Melayu Semangat 46 (S46) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to participate and won several seats in elections in Terengganu, but support on the party is inconsistent as well as the support provided to the party UMNO and PAS. This factor driven by the level of development of the State of Terengganu, which slowly makes the approach of the campaign of a simple logic and approach for immediate consumption, are more easily accepted and practical in attracting the support of the people. The culture has played an important role in guaranteeing victory UMNO in Terengganu from the year 1961 until 1995 with so comfortable. Even so, the Malay political culture has changed the string of political unrest that occurred in 1998. The unrest has led to the rise of civil awareness. Reform movement aimed at alerting citizens formed to demand the freedom of better democracy, economic reforms and social changes also. Change of political culture in Malaysia post PRU to-10 can also be associated with rational choice theory. Malay society becomes more rational in particular in the context of the selection of leaders. Economic development will no longer be the sole factor in providing adherence to the ruler. Malays also impose certain conditions that must be evaluated and interpreted again before you give loyalty and support to the ruling. Malay community in Terengganu today no longer simply give their loyalty to the government but has changed by giving priority to matters that are not of a material such as good governance, administrative transparency, a fair and balanced development as well as other civil claims of a universal.&#x0D; Keywords: Rational Choice Theory, Malay Political Culture.&#x0D; ABSTRAK: Dalam konteks politik dan pilihan raya di Terengganu, sambutan masyarakat Melayu Terengganu terhadap parti politik bukan dominan selain UMNO dan PAS adalah kurang menggalakkan.

Abstract:
Tourism in Terengganu deals with attractions, events, and facilities of special interest to tourists, such as Kuala Terengganu City Centre (KTCC). KTCC is a collaboration project between the Terengganu state government and the East-Cost Economic Region Development (ECERD) agency. This project purposely attracts potential foreign investors and upgrades the community's economy and social well-being in rural dan sub-urban areas in Kuala Terengganu. Therefore, this study analyzes the factors that influence the business performance among Malay micro-entrepreneurs in rural and sub-urban areas of Kuala Terengganu. The study utilized four factors, including entrepreneurial competency, financial literacy, innovation, and technology. In this survey research, non-probability has been chosen by using the purposive sampling methods. The data were collected from Malay micro-entrepreneurs operating their business, including the North and South areas of KTCC. The results showed that entrepreneurial competency and technology factors were significantly affected business performance. Meanwhile, the financial literacy and innovation factors were not significantly affected business performance among Malay micro-entrepreneurs. In general, this study's findings indicated that most Malay entrepreneurs are not concerned about the importance of managing their finance and creating innovative products in the competitive areas. Also, KTCC is a project that can benefit those Malay micro-entrepreneurs who wisely grab the opportunities. Therefore, they need to consider other entrepreneurial factors that can further develop their business performance without relying on the government and other stakeholders.&#x0D;

Abstract:
A study on dipteran utility in assisting investigation of unattended deaths was carried out in mangrove areas of Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, and Masai, Johor, in Peninsular Malaysia by using rabbit carrions as the model. The aim of this study was to determine the dipteran species diversity and their succession over the decomposition period of the rabbit carrions. A total of 229 individuals belonging to 11 species from six families of Diptera were successfully identified from both study sites in October and December 2007. Chrysomya megacephala, C. rufifacies, and Hydrotaea sp. were found to be the most abundant species recorded in this study. More species were collected from Masai with 10 species compared to Kuala Terengganu with nine species. Ecological indices (Shannon Wiener Index, Margalef Index, and Evenness Index) showed that Masai scored higher diversity, richness, and evenness values than Kuala Terengganu. However, Mann-Whitney U test did not show significant difference among the individuals represented at each study site (P&gt;0.05). Calliphoridae predominated in the carrion during the fresh, bloat, and active decay stages of decomposition. Dipteran development was documented to be meteorologically dependent whereby; low temperature and high rainfall inhibit their colonization. Data collected in this study can hopefully serve as the basis for future estimates of the postmortem interval (PMI) particularly in mangrove area of tropical regions.

Abstract:
Kuini (Mangifera odorata) and ceri Terengganu (Lepisanthes fruticosa) are well-known indigenous fruit in Malaysia. Recently, the use of these fruits is gaining attention due to their high nutrient value. In this study, an antidiabetic activity was selected to be tested on the functional beverages from both fruits. A total of two products have been formulated based on the fermentation of kuini puree and ceri Terengganu juice. The study was conducted through an in vitro assay by using pancreatic cells (BRIN BD11). The pancreatic cells were incubated with KRB (negative control) or KRB-containing products (10-1000 μg/mL) or KRB containing glibenclamide (10-1000 μg/mL). Insulin concentration was determined using Rat INS (Insulin) ELISA Kit. Results showed that both fermented kuini and ceri Terengganu beverages have the ability to increase insulin secretion from BRIN BD11 cells as compared to the control. As for fermented ceri Terengganu beverage, the highest insulin secretion was observed at a concentration of 1000 µg/mL (3.51-fold of increment). Whereas for fermented kuini beverage, the highest insulin secretion was observed at a concentration of 500 µg/mL (3.38 -fold of increment). In conclusion, both fermented beverages have the potential to enhance insulin secretion from pancreatic cells. Further study is needed to be conducted through an in vivo experiment to verify the antidiabetic action of these fermented beverages.

Abstract:
Most local authorities in Malaysia spent as much as 60-70 percent of their annual budget to dispose food waste together with other municipal solid wastes to landfills. It is time for Malaysians to start reducing food waste through sustainable method, as it is becoming an uphill task to manage food wastes generated in Malaysia. When households reduce the amount of food waste generated in a sustainable way, it could help reduce cost, and other related bills for households, and as well in running their other daily activities. The main objective of this study is to assess how sociodemographic factors of households in Selangor and Terengganu influence their behaviour towards participation in sustainable food wastes management program. The study applied purposive nonrandom sampling consisting of 333 respondents, 257 were from Selangor and 76 from Terengganu. Primary data was collected through structured questionnaire. Descriptive and logistics regression model analysis were used to analyze the data. Findings have shown 48.7 percent of Terengganu respondents spent not more than RM100 on food per week, while Selangor had 41.2 percent within the same period who spent such amount. 35.4 percent of Selangor respondents spent between RM101-200 compared to Terengganu which spent same amount at 30.3 percent within the same periods. The survey shows 43.2 percent of Selangor households disposed 1-3kg food wastes, while Terengganu on the other hand had 51.3 percent who disposed same quantities of food wastes per week. Respondents with higher education, those on government jobs, small family size and ethnicity have significant impacts on the respondents' behaviour towards participation in sustainable food waste management program. Abstract:
Lutjanus species belong to the family Lutjanidae, where some of the species, such as L. lutjanus, L. vitta, and L. johnii, are common species in Malaysia. The fish, also known as snapper, can be discovered in abundance in most fish landings, including at Terengganu. Lutjanus xanthopinnis, commonly known as yellowfin snapper, is another fish commonly found in Malaysian water, especially Terengganu. However, their morphological characteristics were doubted, as it is hard to distinguish by morphometric and meristic identification alone. This study was conducted by collecting 100 Lutjanid samples with mixed freshness grades from 11 locations consisting of four districts: Besut, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu, and Marang, Terengganu. These 11 locations consisted of fish landing ports, fish stalls, and fish markets in the identification using the Cytochrome Oxidase 1 (CO1) gene marker for the five morphological ambiguous samples. The initial external examination of the samples based on the colour of the stripes led to the identification of the 30 Lutjanid samples as L. xanthopinnis. Further identification of 30 Lutjanid samples via 40 morphometrics and nine meristic characters led to only 25 individuals from the 30 samples fully confirming their identity as L. xanthopinnis. However, five of the samples have several gill rakers, soft dorsal, and anal fin rays that are not similar yet overlap with the previous reports. Hence, these five samples were taken to undergo molecular identification via DNA barcoding using the CO1 gene. The Neighbour Joining Method phylogenetic tree with the Kimura-2 Parameter (K2P) model revealed that the five samples were differentiated into three clades, which were L. xanthopinnis, L. vitta, and L. lutjanus. Molecular identification for the five samples also revealed that three samples were identified as L. xanthopinnis. In contrast, the remaining two were identified as L. vitta and L. lutjanus, respectively, with 99% to 100% similarity. The study has demonstrated that molecular identification via DNA barcoding is a valuable complementary tool to morphological identification, enabling more accurate species identification. It is recommended that fresh samples and more samples are collected from other states. Furthermore, the use of DNA barcoding should be continued in species validation to achieve the highest possible level of accuracy.

Recent fieldwork in Terengganu, Peninsular Malaysia, resulted in the collection of an endemic new species of Ardisia, described here as Ardisia recurvipetala Julius, Siti-Munirah &amp; Utteridge. The species is a member of subgenus (§) Crispardisia on account of its vascularised glands (bacterial nodules) on the leaf margin and the terminal inflorescence on a specialised lateral branch subtended by a normal leaf (rather than a reduced bract-like leaf). Ardisia recurvipetala is unique amongst all members of §Crispardisia by having leaf margins with both vascularised glands and pustule-like structures and can be further distinguished from other Peninsular Malaysian members of this subgenus by the lamina raised between the leaf venation giving a somewhat bullate appearance, unbranched inflorescences, brownish-red pedicels and recurved corolla lobes, each with a creamy-white apex and a small pink patch at the base. Ardisia recurvipetala is known only from a single location in Terengganu and its conservation status is assessed as Data Deficient (DD).
