Abstract:
This article examines the political transformations experienced by the Communist Party and the evolution of the radical left in France in the twenty-five years after 1989. Interpreting the Communist Party and Left Front as anti-establishment, that is, opposed to the political elite, but pro-system parties that are not interested in changing the nature of democratic governance. The peculiarities of French communism and its political philosophy are illustrated. Finally, this study considers the constituent process of the Front. At the beginning of the 21st century, the Front plays the role of a political federation to the left of the Socialist Party with positive electoral results.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the participation of French pilots of the Normandy squadron in battles on the Soviet-German front as part of the Red Army in 1943-1945. After the defeat of France at the first stage of World War II (1940), the occupation of its territory by Germany and the organization of the Resistance movement “Fighting France” in London by General Charles de Gaulle, the pilots joined him expressed a burning desire to fight the enemy in the skies over Soviet soil. Their participation in the ranks of the Soviet Air Force was a unique event in the history of the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union (1945-1945). The article analyzes the information of the Soviet press during the war years about the French squadron “Normandie-Niemen”, which fought in the Soviet Air Force on the Soviet-German front. It is shown that Soviet readers during the Great Patriotic War could get a very complete and reliable idea of the military exploits of French pilots, find out the names of heroes, get acquainted with the military everyday life of officers, appreciate their patriotism and sincere friendly feelings for the Soviet Union and its people. Along with stories about the air battles of the Normandy, the articles of Soviet correspondents contained information about the history of France, how the pilots reacted to the defeat of their country, how and where they fought in the first stage of the Second World War. The press of the war years gave brief sketches of the everyday life of French fighters on Soviet soil, about the curious events that happened to the pilots of the squadron. On the example of newspaper publications 1943-1945. about the military alliance of our and French pilots, you can get an idea of how the cooperation of the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition developed and strengthened.

Abstract:
Contemporaneous with the creation of Israel, the birth of negationism announces ideological stakes. Its very nature reveals a discourse which is dominated by antisemitism. As soon as the post war period, it is interesting to notice that in France, this movement finds echo and zealous supporters at the extreme right wing as well as at the extreme left wing. People of different horizons are reconcilied thanks to common stakes. The history of negationism in France shows this hexagonal particularity, it shows the Faurisson case ; it talks about the reaction of intellectuals when confronted to negationism, also about its political stakes and how the National Front copes with it. Finally, it criticizes a method of negation

Abstract:

Costes, Jean-Philippe. "Le souverainisme de gauche en France." Paris 2, 2007. http://www.theses.fr/2007PA020107.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:
The Maoist movement "la Gauche Prolétarienne" (GP) has intended to adapt the violence of May 1968 into a strategy of clash with authority. It asserts multiple filiations : Mao Tse Tung, anarchism, Leninism and the French Resistance. Faced with "subversion", the political power resorts to laws and special courts. The GP runs its action on two fronts : an "open" sector with mass actions and a "closed" sector with the underground actions of the New Popular resistance, claimed as "illégalisme". The display of solidarities implies terrorism, which was revealed with the terrorist attack of September 1972 during the Munich Olympic Games. The GP gives rise to organisations in charge of gathering and making alliances : "Les Amis de la Cause du Peuple", "Le Secour Rouge", "Le Groupe d'Information sur les Prisons (GIP)" and "Le Mouvement des Travailleurs arabes". It is facing a growing repression which is becoming more acute after the disbanding of May 1970 and uses courts as platforms to question the legitimancy of the "bourgeois Justice". It demands the setting up of a "popular Justice" : the exposure of industrial accidents in mines by the Lens Popular Court. The murder of a miner's daughter in BRUAY-EN-ARTOIS crystallises the "class hatred" against "the bourgeois" : the "Vérité Justice" committee calls up to vengeance. The Gauche Prolétarienne acknowledges the defeat of its revolutionary strategy in 1973 with the LIP case, an "exemplary action" taken without the Gauche Prolétarienne, which leads to its auto-disbanding

Thesis, Dijon, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016DIJOL011/document.

Full text
Abstract:
This doctoral thesis aims at assessing the impact of the decolonisation process on the population of Besançon. The study of an urban community involves taking an interest in various historiographical fields (such as the political and cultural history of both colonisation and decolonisation, as well as the Cold War). From a people's history perspective, our purpose is to grasp how people experienced decolonisation (how they understood, felt, thought, acted). This research covers the period from 1945 up to the 1960s. A two-angled approach has been applied, including comparisons on local and national levels and a thorough investigation of Besançon's social environment in and of itself. The diversity of sources (official sources, organised groups, press articles, interviews) and their comparison have allowed us to draw several conclusions. The example of Besançon demonstrates that the decolonisation process affected French society, even in areas that could be considered peripheral. It was actually less the replica of the nation's reality following a Parisian leadership than the sharing of a series of collective experiences on a nation-wide scale. These shared experiences may allow for variations, undoubtedly not restricted to the area of Besançon, which do indeed reflect local characteristics: the strength of social Catholicism, left-wing Catholics joining forces with Communists, the radical choices of key protagonists (e.g. the Rapiné trial). Finally, the Algerian War so dramatically influenced Besançon's experience of decolonisation that it created a singular history, different from the national narrative on some specific points

Fuks, Jennifer. Paris 2, 2009. http://www.theses.fr/2009PA020014.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:
Hydrogenated premixed methane/air flames under lean conditions are simulated in this study. The computational model of the high pressure chamber setup of Orleans - ICARE (France) has been developed. The k-ε turbulence model with Pope-correction is used for turbulence modeling. The laminar flame properties are computed using GRI-Mech 3.0 mechanism with Chemkin software package. The turbulent flame front statistics are investigated with three premixed combustion models, namely Zimont, Coherent Flame Model (CFM) and modified version of CFM model (MCFM) models. It has been observed that increasing the volumetric percentage of hydrogen in the mixture results in reducing the flame-end position. The flame brush thickness becomes thinner as well. Satisfactory results have been obtained compared to experiments.

Abstract:
The design of a gas turbine combustion chamber integrates multiple contradicting objectives. Among all the parameters available to the engineers, the number of fuel injection systems and their spacing are crucial information which need to be fixed early on in the design phase. Indeed, such choices not only impact the cost and size of the combustor but they also affect the operability of the future engine. One key objective behind these parameters is the ignition time delay needed for the whole combustion chamber to successfully light. To gather knowledge in the ignition process that takes place in real gas turbine engines, current research orient towards the development of experimental facilities that complement high fidelity unsteady numerical simulations. In this context, a multi-injectors experimental set-up located at CORIA (France) is used to validate Large Eddy Simulation (LES) tools developed by CERFACS, IFP-EN and CORIA (France). Preliminary validations against experimental data show that for a given inter-injector distance, LES stationary and ignition transient predictions are very promising and recover the main features found in the experiment. Exit mean and root mean square velocity profiles of the steady flow are in good agreement with measurements obtained for all injectors at multiple axial locations. The simulation of the ignition transient phase well captures global events such as the propagation of the flame front from one injector to its neighbors and the related mechanisms. Improvement is however still needed to recover the proper ignition time of the whole burner.

Abstract:
Dissimilar metal welds are a common feature of light water reactors in connections between ferritic components and austenitic stainless steel piping systems. Inspection difficulties, variability of material properties and residual stresses all combine to create problems for structural integrity assessment. Within the framework of European project STYLE, a fracture test on a pipe containing a through wall crack in a narrow gap Nickel alloy Dissimilar Metals (DMWinc) is under preparation. The work is focusing on the nickel alloy - ferrite steel interface which is the weakest area of such welded pipes in front of ductile tearing. The study temperature is 300°C, which covers typical temperatures in components like hot pipes in the primary coolant system of pressurized water reactors. This paper gives an overview of the program and the first results of works which is been carried out by the French Atomic Energy Commission and Alternative Energies (CEA) in order to study the mechanical properties and integrity of component of the DMWinc pipes provided and designed by AREVA France.

Abstract:
During the past 30 years many fatigue tests and fatigue analysis improvements have been developed in France in order to improve Codified Fatigue Rules of French Nuclear Codes: RCC-M, RSE-M and RCC-MRx. This paper will present comments and proposals for development of these rules associated to Gaps and Needs in order to finalize and justify the AFCEN Codes new rules. Recently 3 new international R&D results confirm possible un-conservative fatigue material data: - High cycle fatigue in air for stainless steel, - Environmental effects on fatigue S-N curve for all materials, and in particular stainless steels, - Fatigue Crack Growth law under PWR environment for stainless steel. In front of these new results, AFCEN is working on a 1st set of rules based on existing knowledge: - Air fatigue curve: mean and design - PWR Environmental effects with detrimental correction factors A periodic up-dating of AFCEN proposed rules will be done using French and International R&D programs with a particular attention on harmonization with other Code rules developed in USA, Japan and Germany, in particular.

Abstract:
During the past 30 years many fatigue tests and fatigue analysis improvements have been developed in France in order to improve Codified Fatigue Rules of RCC-M and ASME Codes [1, 2]. This paper will present the major technical improvements to obtain reasonable evaluation of potential fatigue damage through EDF road map. Recently new results [3] confirm possible un-conservative fatigue material data: - High cycle fatigue in air for stainless steel, - Environmental effects on fatigue S-N curve for all materials - Fatigue Crack Growth law under PWR environment for stainless steel. In front of these new results, EDF has developed a “Fatigue Road Map” to improve the different steps of Codified fatigue rules. A periodic up-dating of proposed rules in the different French Codes: RCC-M, RCC-MRx and RSE-M with research of harmonization with other Code rules developed in USA, Japan and Germany in particular, will be done on a yearly basis. During the past 15 years, many results have been obtained through fatigue tests of stainless steel materials: - mean and design fatigue curve in air, - environmental effects on fatigue curves, - plasticity effects, - bi-axial load effects, - mean stress effects, - stress indices, - transferability from small to large specimen, - weld versus base metal. In parallel, many new developments have been made in non-nuclear pressure equipment industry: like the reference stress of ASME Section VIII or the structural stress of EN 13445. These methods are mainly well adapted to fatigue pressure cycling. In front of that situation, the French nuclear code organization needs to propose reliable rules for new design and for operating plants. Different proposals are under discussion and the status of the EDF proposals are presented in the paper. The consequences could be important for the utilities because a large part of the in-service inspection program is connected to some fatigue usage factor level between 0.5 and 1.

Abstract:
The URL links to a website page in the Drexel Digital Museum (DDM) fashion image archive containing a 3D interactive panorama of an evening gown by French fashion designer Christian Lacroix with related text. This evening gown by Christian Lacroix is from his Fall 1990 collection. It is constructed from silk plain weave, printed with an abstract motif in the bright, deep colors of the local costumes of Lacroix's native Arles, France; and embellished with diamanté and insets of handkerchief edged silk chiffon. Ruffles of pleated silk organza in a neutral bird feather print and also finished with a handkerchief edge, accentuate the asymmetrical draping of the gown. Ruching, controlled by internal drawstrings and ties, creates volume and a slight pouf, a nod to 'le pouf' silhouette Lacroix popularized in his collection for Patou in 1986. Decorative boning on the front of the bodice reflects Lacroix's early education as a costume historian and his sartorial reinterpretation of historic corsets. It is from the private collection of Mari Shaw. The panorama is an HTML5 formatted version of an ultra-high resolution ObjectVR created from stitched tiles captured with GigaPan technology. It is representative the ongoing research of the DDM, an international, interdisciplinary group of researchers focused on production, conservation and dissemination of new media for exhibition of historic fashion.
