Abstract:
The front-end loader is an indispensable machine for the off-road construction equipment industry. It is a classic example of a working machine with complex interactions between its subsystems (hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical). Dynamic models of the full-scale vehicle coupled with event-based operator models are currently used to help quantify the overall system performance, efficiency, and operability. However, these models are complex and not always necessary to characterize the response of individual subsystems. There is great value added to the design process — especially in prototyping of new vehicle platforms — in development of simpler models that can quickly and accurately define first-order measures of system loads and performance. This paper presents a subscale dynamic model, which isolates the boom and bucket manipulator systems of the front-end loader for the purpose of design load characterization. The model includes state equations governing the hydraulic dynamics across the control valves and in the cylinders, as well as soil—tool interaction loads (passive earth loads) at the bucket cutting edge. The governing equations of motion for the multi-rigid body model of the bucket linkage are developed using Kane's method. The proposed model is intended to accelerate the structural design and analysis of the boom and bucket linkage subsystems and may yield useful information for optimization purposes. The output from the dynamic simulation is compared with the field test data of the machine.

Abstract:
A robust design approach of 4-position motion generation is presented, and it is applied in the design of front end loader. The mathematical model of optimum design based upon the engineering requirements has been established, by which feasible robust solution regions adhering to conventional constraints and kinematic accuracy requirements can be visually represented. It guides designers to synthesize robust mechanisms that ensure every design condition. The example of front end loader demonstrates that the process of searching the optimal robust mechanism is more intuitive, highly accessible and easy to be applied in engineering practice.

Virtualization technology has revolted the computer technology. In the paper, we present our virtual computer cluster. The components of computer cluster have been improved by virtualization technology from the actual computer server to virtual server instance. Virtual computer cluster includes front-end machine and the cluster nodes. The front-end machine can be physical machines or virtual machines; the cluster node can also be virtual or physical machine node. The front-end machine of the cluster communicates with the cluster nodes through physical or virtual network adapter. The front-end machine connects with the cluster management software in each node so as to monitor and control every physical or virtual node within the cluster. A single virtual computer cluster extends its resources with adding physical or virtual resources including computing resources, storage resources and etc. within secure and stabile occasions with special needs. The technology can be widely applied to cluster and parallel computing demand but with lower-cost system design scenarios.

Abstract:
Tractor front-end loaders are an essential part of the equipment used on farms. At present, there are an important number of small- and medium-sized companies involved in the manufacturing of this equipment. These companies rely heavily on experience for innovative designs, as in the vast majority of cases they lack access to adequate methodology for the optimal design of new front-end loaders. The study conducted has developed a methodology to design tractor front-end loaders with a view of obtaining their accurate design during the bucket loading process. The methodology comprises two phases: the first phase involves a numerical analysis of the structural behaviour of the front-end loader components by means of the Finite Element Method; the second phase, the experimental phase, makes use of low-cost sensors, in particular, strain gauges, to analyse existing strains at selected points in the front-end loader structure. The experimental results obtained by means of low-cost sensors fitted onto the front-end loader allow analysing the existing strains at the points measured, as well as validate the numerical model developed. This methodology is validated by applying it to a commercial front-end loader, more specifically to model 430E2 of the company Maquinaria Agrícola El León S.A (Spain).

Abstract:
High-performance audio-frequency magnetotelluric (AMT) instrument is one means of obtaining high-quality electromagnetic (EM) data. To improve the ability of AMT system to obtain high-quality data, this paper presents a design for a high-performance analog front-end circuit for AMT instrument. It mainly consists of the input protection, preamplifier, passive high pass filter, power frequency notch filter, programmable amplifier, and active low pass filter. In addition, this paper proposes a design of low-noise, high-performance preamplifier, which improves the common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR) of analog front-end circuit and effectively enhances the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the circuit. The front-end circuit utilized two-stage twin-T notch filter to effectively suppress the strong interference of fundamental component of power frequency. Also, it used signal relays to control circuit gain and selection of cutoff frequency of anti-aliasing filter, resulting in the improvement of the capability of the analog-to-digital Converter (ADC) to distinguish weak EM signal. The measured results of the electric field and magnetic field channel showed that: 1) The circuit works in frequency range of 1 Hz∼100 kHz; 2) The CMRR values of the preamplifier of electric field channel at low frequencies (1 Hz∼1 kHz) are 111 dB and 97 dB when the gains are 20 dB and 6 dB respectively; 3) The maximum attenuation fundamental power frequency can reach −39.46 dB and −39.04 dB respectively; 4) The total harmonic distortion rate at 1 kHz is 0.022% and 0.029% respectively; 5) The input noise levels of electric field channel are 12.67nV / [Formula: see text] @10Hz and 8.15V / [Formula: see text] @1kHz, while the input noise levels of magnetic field channel are 8.97nV / [Formula: see text] @10Hz and 6.16V / [Formula: see text] @1kHz; and 6) In conclusion, the analog front-end circuit is superior to meet the requirements of the AMT methods, and provides a useful reference for the development of AMT instrument.

Abstract:
Thoracic injuries occur frequently in minivan-to-pedestrian impact accidents and can cause substantial fatalities. The present research work investigates the human thoracic responses and injury risks in minivan-to-pedestrian impacts, when changing the minivan front-end design and the impact velocity, by using computational biomechanics model. We employed three typical types of minivan model of different front-end designs that are quite popular in Chinese market and considered four impact velocities (20, 30, 40, and 50 km/h). The contact time of car to thorax region (CTCTR), thorax impact velocity, chest deformation, and thoracic injury risks were extracted for the investigation. The results indicate that the predicted pedestrian kinematics, injury responses, and thoracic injury risks are strongly affected by the variation of the minivan front-end design and impact velocity. The pedestrian thoracic injury risks increase with the increasing vehicle impact velocity. It is also revealed that the application of the extra front bumper is beneficial for reducing the thoracic injury risk, and a relatively flatter minivan front-end design gives rise to a higher thoracic injury risk. This study is expected to be served as theoretical references for pedestrian protection design of minivans.

Abstract:
Solid dehumidification is one of the important components of the dehumidification air-conditioning system. As an important method of solid dehumidification, the dehumidification performance and regeneration performance of fixed-bed dehumidification have an important impact on the operation and energy saving of the dehumidification air-conditioning system. In view of the high air temperature and high humidity in South China, our design organically combines dehumidification fixed beds, semiconductor refrigeration devices, foam ceramic insulation panels and double-glazed windows. We have designed a photovoltaic-driven modular solar temperature regulating and dehumidifying purification wall suitable for building dehumidification. The dehumidification window can use daytime solar radiation to regenerate the dehumidification fixed bed after absorbing moisture, reducing the energy consumption of regeneration. At the same time, the design can also use semiconductor refrigeration devices to adjust the temperature and humidity of the window inlet air to improve the window's dehumidification and regeneration performance. We tested and studied the dehumidification and regeneration performance of the device under different working conditions through experimental tests, which provided a basis for the engineering application and theoretical analysis of the device.

Abstract:
Abstract By codesigning a metaoptical front end in conjunction with an image-processing back end, we demonstrate noise sensitivity and compactness substantially superior to either an optics-only or a computation-only approach, illustrated by two examples: subwavelength imaging and reconstruction of the full polarization coherence matrices of multiple light sources. Our end-to-end inverse designs couple the solution of the full Maxwell equations—exploiting all aspects of wave physics arising in subwavelength scatterers—with inverse-scattering algorithms in a single large-scale optimization involving ≳ 10 4 $\gtrsim {10}^{4}$ degrees of freedom. The resulting structures scatter light in a way that is radically different from either a conventional lens or a random microstructure, and suppress the noise sensitivity of the inverse-scattering computation by several orders of magnitude. Incorporating the full wave physics is especially crucial for detecting spectral and polarization information that is discarded by geometric optics and scalar diffraction theory.

Abstract:
A digital front-end decimation chain based on both Farrow interpolator for fractional sample-rate conversion and a digital mixer is proposed in order to comply with the long-term evolution standards in radio receivers with ten frequency modes. Design requirement specifications with adjacent channel selectivity, inband blockers, and narrowband blockers are all satisfied so that the proposed digital front-end is 3GPP-compliant. Furthermore, the proposed digital front-end addresses carrier aggregation in the standards via appropriate frequency translations. The digital front-end has a cascaded integrator comb filter prior to Farrow interpolator and also has a per-carrier carrier aggregation filter and channel selection filter following the digital mixer. A Farrow interpolator with an integrate-and-dump circuitry controlled by a condition signal is proposed and also a digital mixer with periodic reset to prevent phase error accumulation is proposed. From the standpoint of design methodology, three models are all developed for the overall digital front-end, namely, functional models, cycle-accurate models, and bit-accurate models. Performance is verified by means of the cycle-accurate model and subsequently, by means of a special C++ class, the bitwidths are minimized in a methodic manner for area minimization. For system-level performance verification, the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing receiver is also modeled. The critical path delay of each building block is analyzed and the spectral-domain view is obtained for each building block of the digital front-end circuitry. The proposed digital front-end circuitry is simulated, designed, and both synthesized in a 180 nm CMOS application-specific integrated circuit technology and implemented in the Xilinx XC6VLX550T field-programmable gate array (Xilinx, San Jose, CA, USA).

The photovoltaic cells’ output characteristics and maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technology are studied to design a two-stage cascaded photovoltaic off-grid inverter, including the front-end Boost converter and the rear-end three-phase inverter. The state-space averaging method is adopted in front-end Boost converter modeling, and space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) technology is adopted in the rear-end three-phase inverter. The simulation drive model is obtained through research principles and algorithm realization. Based on the theoretical analysis and simulation, front-end Boost converter’s and the back-end inverter’s hardware are designed. The main circuit includes the front-end Direct Current (DC)-DC topology and the back-end DC-AC topology. The TMS320F28027 digital signal processor is the core of the front-end DC-DC topology’s control system, and LabView is the core of the back-end DC-AC topology’s control system. The front-end Boost converter’s analog output voltage is 32 V, stable at the maximum operating point in the test. The maximum power point can be effectively tracked in the proposed inverter. The rear-end three-phase inverter’s total harmonic distortion (THD) of phase voltage is less than 3%. Less harmonic wave meets the circuit harmonic distortion rate’s design requirements.

Abstract:
This paper proposes a new intelligent video surveillance system based on Android phone. By using Android phone, this system can be deployed easily and quickly. Compare with the traditional surveillance system, this new one uses Android phone to replace the large and expensive surveillance cameras. In addition, the functions of back-end equipment of the traditional system have been moved to the front-end equipment. With a modified invasion detection algorithm, the front-end equipment becomes more intelligent. This schema can significantly increase the mobility and flexibility of the entire system. Therefore this system will have a better performance dealing with emergencies in different surveillance scenarios. Moreover, this state-of-art intelligent video surveillance system not only brings a new method for surveillance, but also advances the development of surveillance techniques.

Abstract:
In conventional DC link AC-AC converter system, uncontrolled front end converter has inherent problem of power quality. To overcome the problem associated with uncontrolled front end converter, multilevel front end converter will be good choice for high power applications. In the paper, unity power factor control system (UPC) for active front end (AFE) neutral point clamped (NPC) 3-level converter is presented. PI controllers are used in UPC and for tuning of PI controllers it is essentially required to know the different time constants with their gains exactly for evaluating the optimized controller parameters for steady operation of the NPC rectifier. In this paper a simplified and accurate method of online tuning of PI controllers in UPC is derived and implemented for three phase AFE NPC 3-level converter. Complete design procedure for the design of control system for AFE NPC 3-level is also presented in this paper. Based on developed model, simulations are carried in MATLAB/SIMULIK environment. Experimentation results confirm the simulation results.
