Abstract:
Curran, Linda S., Jianguo Zhuang, Shin Fu Sun, and Lorna G. Moore. Ventilation and hypoxic ventilatory responsiveness in Chinese-Tibetan residents at 3,658 m. J. Appl. Physiol. 83(6): 2098–2104, 1997.—When breathing ambient air at rest at 3,658 m altitude, Tibetan lifelong residents of 3,658 m ventilate as much as newcomers acclimatized to high altitude; they also ventilate more and have greater hypoxic ventilatory responses (HVRs) than do Han (“Chinese”) long-term residents at 3,658 m. This suggests that Tibetan ancestry is advantageous in protecting resting ventilation levels during years of hypoxic exposure and is of interest in light of the permissive role of hypoventilation in the development of chronic mountain sickness, which is nearly absent among Tibetans. The existence of individuals with mixed Tibetan-Chinese ancestry (Han-Tibetans) residing at 3,658 m affords an opportunity to test this hypothesis. Eighteen men born in Lhasa, Tibet, China (3,658 m) to Tibetan mothers and Han fathers were compared with 27 Tibetan men and 30 Han men residing at 3,658 m who were previously studied. We used the same study procedures (minute ventilation was measured with a dry-gas flowmeter during room air breathing and hyperoxia and with a 13-liter spirometer-rebreathing system during the hypoxic and hypercapnic tests). During room air breathing at 3,658 m (inspired O2 pressure = 93 Torr), Han-Tibetans resembled Tibetans in ventilation (12.1 ± 0.6 vs. 11.5± 0.5 l/min btps, respectively) but had HVR that were blunted (63 ± 16 vs. 121 ± 13, respectively, for HVR shape parameter A) and declined with increasing duration of high-altitude residence. During administered hyperoxia (inspired O2 pressure = 310 Torr) at 3,658 m, the paradoxical hyperventilation previously seen in Tibetan but not Han residents at 3,658 m (11.8 ± 0.5 vs. 10.1 ± 0.5 l/min btps) was absent in these Han-Tibetans (9.8 ± 0.6 l/minbtps). Thus, although longer duration of high-altitude residence appears to progressively blunt HVR among Han-Tibetans born and residing at 3,658 m, their Tibetan ancestry appears protective in their maintenance of high resting ventilation levels despite diminished chemosensitivity.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT(N.B. A version of this paper has now been published in Kaogu 1983.6:537-41.)Fu Hao (or Fu Zi ) appears in the oracle-bone inscriptions from Anyang. The name is often seen in Period I inscriptions (from the time of Wu Ding) and occasionally in Period IV inscriptions (from the time of Wu Yi and Wen Ding). The two are separated by four kings (Zu Geng, Zu Jia, Lin Xin, and Kang Ding), perhaps by as much as one hundred years. Does the Fu Hao in both periods refer to the same person? How can we explain this phenomenon? In the oracle-bone records of people and their activities there are cases where one figure is active in different periods. These names are often also place names, and these figures possess a populace and products. These names are probably what is termed “Clan-Territory titles” (a term found in the Gu shi kao, as quoted in the “Zheng yi” commentary to the Zuo zhuan). Based on their clan name they served hereditarily as officials. These clan names occur in historical literature, as in “In the past, our former kings were for generations Lords of Millet (Hou Ji ), serving under the Yü and Xia “(Guo yü “Zhou Yü” ); or “The Zhong and Li clans generation after generation ordered heaven and earth, … the Sima clan for generation after generation was in charge of the history of Zhou” (Shi ji, “Taishigong zixu” ).

Abstract:
Enquiring into the first chapter of Liu Xiang’s Lienü Zhuan 列女傳, this paper points out the consolidation of the spatial distinction of nei/wai and the ethical construction of womanhood in the Former Han period. In this analysis we will underline the “in-between” position of women depicted by the author and consider their position as based on a metaphorical—but sometimes even physical—threshold. It highlights six categories in Liu Xiang’s work that help us understand a traditional vision of woman that is reviving in modern times. Even today, the Way of Women (fu dao 妇道) is one of the principles on which social harmony is based; breaching the Way of Woman leads to disruptive consequences both within the family and outside, within society.

The 10 suns bathing relates to sun worship. The story of the suns bathing and then emerging from the water has likely become one of a fish changing into a bird, becoming a winged sun, and then flying off from the tree branches. When icons and documents such as Chu Ci (楚辞), the Chu (楚) silk paintings, Shan Hai Jing (山海經), and the Mawangdui (馬王堆) silk paintings are brought together, this outline can be drawn. In doing so, the “ Fu Yao (扶揺)” is not the “wind” in Guo Xiang’s (郭象) annotation; it is best to understand the “ Fu Yao (扶揺)” in Xiaoyaoyou (逍遙遊) and the “ Fu Yao (扶揺) branches” in the Zaiyou (在宥) text to both be akin to “ Fusang (扶桑).”

The academia of the Ming dynasty came from the Sung dynasty and thed Yuan dynasty, especially in the “Chunqie Jing”. Since the “Chunqie Zhuan” had been written by Fu Anguo, and because of the politics situation, which became the main issue throughout the whole of the Ming dynasty. The academia in the Ming dynasty was insulted by scholars. When the “Complete Works of Five Jing” was issued and as an imperial examination, that was be engrossed in intellectuals. They became devoted in studied textbooks instead of classic literature. Gu Yanwu said “since stereotyped writing was been used then classical philosophy was abandoned; the “Complete Works of Five Jing” was published then Jing literature was betrayed. For the sake of examination, the context of Jing literature was been wrote in standard; thus, it’s helpful to be spread to common people. On the one hand, imperial examination could make classical literature available to common people. On the other hand, it could make the classical literature to become rigid. For an example, appointed the “Chunqie Zhuan” wrote by Fu Anguo as the only book to represent the “Complete Works of Chunqie”. It was influence that intellectuals were to be absorbed in the textbook of the “Chunqie Zhuan” and ignored another “Chunqie Zhuan”, including “Zuo Zhuan”, “Gong Yang Zhuan”, and “Gu Zhuan”. All through the Ming dynasty, majority of scholars criticized the academia. The scholars’ attitudes were negative and though that was not enough. In addition to, the academia of the Ming dynasty was the most difficult period, and fewer scholars deeply research in this field nowadays. Thus, the purpose of this thesis is try to make a thorough inquiry about the scholars of the Ming dynasty who discussed about the Fu’s “Chunqie Zhuan”, which they had proposed some defect and weakness. Furthermore, this thesis is try to discuss those scholars’ opinion if there are something needs to be reviewed and inspected. There are ten scholars of the Ming dynasty were be propose to discuss, include “Chunqie Zheng Yue Kao ”wrote by Zhang Yining, “Distinction of Chunqie Jing Zhuan ” wrote by Tong Pin, “Examination of Chunqi Fu Zhuan ” wrote by Yuan Ren, “Thesis of Chunqie” wrote by Zhang Bangji, “Distinction of Chunqie Fu Zhuan ” wrote by Lu Can, “Examination of Chunqie Shi Yi ” wrote by Jiang Bao, “Distinction of Chunqie Zhu Zhuan” wrote by Zhu Muqie, “Examination of Chunqie Four Zhuan” wrote by Xu Pu, “Question of Chunqie” wrote by Yang Yuting, and “Question of Chunqie Four Zhuan ” wrote by Wang Jiezhi. According to extensively explore and analysis above ten works that were distinguished and criticized about the Fu’s “Chunqie Zhuan”. Overall, this thesis may probably be able to compensate the short of the Ming dynasty’s academia that seldom to be researched during these hundred years.

ABSTRACT Zhuang Zi lived in an era of turbulence. He perceived that people often suffered from a dilemma accompanied by “the emotions” and “the appearance”. As a result, he proposed his unprecedented philosophy about “virtue, appearance, and emotions" to remind people looking at the goodness of spirits. Without the constriction of the outward appearance, people could release themselves from the fetters and perappearance good virtues to accommodate the unchangeable destiny and environment. In , Zhuang Zi characterized the mutilated as the perfect person with sound rectitude. The uglier and powerless a person was, the more virtuous he would be. By the concept of deformity, Zhuang Zi intended to release people’s minds from the constraints of the outward appearance to the inner spiritual world. Whether the figure is perfect or not should not be the concern of our life. On the contrary, virtues are the ones men should practice to promote the spiritual life and to find the direction of life. Zhuang Zi also initiated the issue of “de-emotion” to cease the burden of emotions and to cultivate the virtues in spiritual life. However, people went on the opposite way. They thought “the appearance” and “the emotions” constructed the real world, which was challenged by Zhuang Zi. He claimed that the emotions were always troublesome. He pointed out that without emotions, virtues could be cultivated without the disturbance of right or wrong and likes or dislikes. Will the doctrine in practical? Could it be implemented in our real life? I found that there really existed many virtuous persons who had broken the restrictions of the appearance and achieved a state of harmony and reflection. They transcended the limitation of escapeless destiny and lived in a harmonious life. I expect myself to learn more about the profound meaning in the chapter, which will assist me to implement and cultivate inner virtues. The state of inner harmony could help me to overcome the inevitable obstacles and promote the quality of life. The values of “virtues”, “appearance”, and “emotion” help me to excel my judgment to live a virtuous life. Key Word:release、fetters 、de-emotion
