Due to their unique physical and chemical properties, which play an unrivaled role in enhancing the performance and safety of pyrotechnic substances, carbon nanomaterials have garnered significant interest from researchers in recent years. In this paper, carbon nanostructures prepared by electric arc synthesis are identified as C60 and C70 fullerene carbon blacks. The carbon black particles derived from the synthesized fullerenes exhibit a porous and rough morphology, with sizes ranging from 32 to 190 nm. The structure determination of endohedral fullerenes is complicated because of the high degree of disorder which may affect the different structural components, e.g. the endohedral atom/molecule, the fullerene cage and solvent molecules. Even worse, the data-to-parameter ratio and, in particular, the scattering power is low. Different strategies are employed to deal with these problems. The observed fraction of the reciprocal lattice may be increased by means of synchrotron diffraction studies. This review concerns the fullerene black, a poorly known nano-sized carbon material, the insoluble recidue after extraction of fullerenes from fullerene soot produced by arc evaporation of carbon material (usually graphite) in a helium atmosphere. This by-product of the production of fullerenes, whose yield reaches 80 wt %, is a finely dispersed material with a particle size of 40–50 nm. It includes amorphous carbon, graphitized particles, and graphite. Using block copolymers for large-area periodic structure fabrication is of great interest because of the potential for low fabrication costs and simplicity of the processing. The concept is that by selective inclusion of the nanoparticles into one of the blocks of a self-assembling copolymer, the nanoparticles are forced into a defined spatial arrangement determined by the phase morphology of the copolymer. Although copolymers can form well defined structures, they inherently have a 'polycrystalline' structure in the bulk, meaning that there is no long-range order of the domains. This thesis a

This research is a study of novel developed electron deficient semiconducting materials for optoelectronic devices. It investigates the molecular engineering aspects of new conjugated small molecular electron acceptors with desirable properties such as strong and broad absorption, high electron mobility, and suitable energy levels and good solubility for organic solar cell and organic thin film transistor applications. Furthermore the effect of alkyl chain length on solubility, thermal, optical, electrochemical properties, and device efficiencies is also studied.
