Abstract:
The article gives a detailed analysis of stylistic parameters and criteria of media phraseology with regard to their functional potential in different types of communication. The author considers media phraseologism as a special verbal marker of modern society and defines the criteria of scientific analysis of phraseologism in mass media. In scientific analysis the author focuses his attention on the types of media phraseology and provides mechanisms for the functioning of traditional (usual), stylistically transformed and idiomatically new phraseologism in mass communication. On the basis of the medialinguistic view on phraseologism as the universum of media text new requirements for describing the functional potential of these linguistic units in media texts are proposed. Thus, functional-stylistic approach to the analysis of media phraseology determines the prospects for its scientific description and further linguapragmatics in various types of media communication. The article raises scientific problems concerning the analysis of media phraseology, the solution of which is possible with the help of the functional-stylistic approach.

Abstract:
Abstract Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG) is one of the most influential grammars used in stylistics, but more recently the discipline has witnessed a growing body of work using cognitive grammars to explain stylistic effects. This research has tended to make the positive case for cognitive grammar (CG) by demonstrating its similarity to functionalist approaches. However, it is also necessary to say how CG adds to an SFG account of literary effects. To do so, I return to Halliday’s seminal analysis of Golding’s novel, The Inheritors. I use CG to investigate the conceptual processes involved in the reader’s interpretation of the character’s deviant mindstyle and outline some of the ludic and dramatic effects of these reconstrual operations. Thus, whereas SFG focuses on describing the ideational structure of the representations proffered by texts, I argue that a unique affordance of CG is its focus on the readerly construction of meaning.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the functional-stylistic analysis of the new genre of Ukrainian television news – infotainment. The author emphasizes that this genre is currently actively developing in the field of national television. In addition, it has a number of specific features inherent only to it. On the example of the TV program "Абзац!" on the New Channel and "M1 News" on the M1 channel the author provides an analysis of the broadcasting media specifics in the television programs of the infotainment genre. Infotainment – literally "infotainment = information + entertainment" – is a diffuse genre, which emerged as functional mix of two genres – informational and entertainment. The essence of the infotainment news is laying in the presentation of official news in an amusement way. The history of infotainment establishment is related not only to the globalization of television, but also to the change in information space paradigm in general. This genre emerged in the American mediaspace in the 80's of the 20th century and, with the help of the globalization process, gradually expanded its borders therefore it became popular outside the United States. In addition, the infotainment changed its format to the needs of the Ukrainian viewer that gave it the unique features that distinguish this genre not only among other types of news, but also among similar foreign prototypes. Among such features the author distinguish: conversational style of speech, the use of a large number of stylistic trails, the irony of discourse, emotional and expressive presentation of the material, versatility of the video and the free choice of thematic content. Due to these features, the Ukrainian infotainment as neo-genre is gaining popularity among recipients. As a result, it was proved that the infotainment exists on the Ukrainian television and has its own linguistic and stylistic features that require attention not only from journalists, but also by linguists, in particular medialinguists. The bright example of studied programs shows that such a genre enriches not only the content of the television media space, but also the language of the recipients by the innovative lexical units.

Abstract:
This article focuses on the peculiarities of functional and stylistic aspects of the regional media vocabulary (Ulyanovsk region newspapers). The authors analyzed publications from the three leading sites of Ulyanovsk newspapers – Ulyanovsk Segodnya (Ulyanovsk Today), Molodezhnaya Gazeta (Youth Newspaper) and Simbirskiy kur’er (Simbirskiy Courier) from July 2019 to February 2020. The authors examined the regional broadcasting language, characteristics of printed media and lexical connotation of provincial publications. To study the stylistic peculiarities of the regional newspapers, we analyzed about 100 pages of various newspaper articles (180,000 printed characters with spaces). The conducted content analysis revealed four basic types of vocabulary with a functional and stylistic coloring. The results of the analysis showed the dominance of business vocabulary, social and political vocabulary, Internet vocabulary, as well as scientific and technical terms. According to quantitative estimation, the most widely-used group of vocabulary with functional and stylistic connotation are social and political terms (150 lexical units). This group mainly included journalistic clichés. Within the group of business lexis, the main subgroups were namely business, economic and legal vocabulary. Neologisms that are not registered in lexicographic sources are also widely used in regional newspaper publications. It should be emphasized that borrowings, primarily Anglo-Americanisms are often found in the Russian press. This is due to the fact that the English language has acquired the status of a global language. Thus, today it plays a big role in every culture and in every state, including Russia, reflecting the Russian press as well.

Abstract:
The article deals with the analysis of graphic-stylistic means of the language, such as punctuation, functioning in modern English based on the language material of literary and media texts (on-line site of The Guardian). The aim of the paper is to reveal some actual functional characteristics of punctuation marks compared with their traditional syntactic and stylistic usage. The linguistic analysis is conducted within the methodology of semantic and syntactic interpretation and description. The following new functional usage of punctuation marks is described: the playing (ludic) function (creating an ironic, comic or parody effect in communication) and the expressive function emphasizing the semantics of an element in a communicative context. The importance of the undertaken analysis is to show the necessity of studying the English punctuation functions from the point of view of modern theory of communication and media linguistics as well as with an empirical educational purpose of teaching the English grammar.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to functional and stylistic features of advertising minitexts in English economic and political mass media and Internet sources. The scientific relevance of the topic is proved by the significant role of advertising in building up not only market relations but also cultural stereotypes and public opinion. Besides, the necessity arises to reveal the human linguistic consciousness potential of integrating different meanings and small forms of their verbalization, as the trend towards contracting speech acts is gaining momentum in both oral and written communication. Hence, advertising texts make a proper object of analysis since the need for quick catching of the customers attention and saving money on publication space determines advertisements small volume. The authors set the purpose of analysing the stylistic features of advertising minitexts in economic and political sources in terms of the formation of their discursive features. Methods of discourse functional analysis, descriptive and contextual analyses are implemented thereto. The article addresses the issue of correlation between text and discourse with regard to the advertising linguistic status, types of advertising texts, extralinguistic factors (including psychographic and demographic profiles of consumers) determining the choice of means that actualise advertising discourse functions. The analysis focuses on the expressive means forming peculiar advertising stylistics and special pragmatic increments aimed at making efficient impacts on the recipient. The findings of the empiric analysis are presented in reference to such expressive means as metaphors, allusions, wordplay, antithesis, etc. The prevalence of metaphors, epithets and hyperbole as the most frequent stylistic devices in advertising discourse has been revealed. The authors conclude that discursive features of the texts under analysis are actualized in pragmasemantic increments which are not inferred from speech elements direct meanings alone but are synergistically formed in advertising functional space in the course of text generation and perception based on the communicating parties living backgrounds.

Anchored on Systemic Functional Linguistics and Discourse Stylistics, it basically focuses on the mood structures and the modality types registered in the speech. The findings disclose that the then U.S. first lady relies more on declarative mood and deontic modality to convey her message. The study thus infers that in her final message to her country citizens, Michelle Obama concentrates on action clauses and behaves as advisor towards women and men, as well as young and adults.

Abstract:
The article analyzes "state and status" of functional stylistics in Ukraine in the beginning of the 21st century in the categories and concepts of modern linguistics. The research context of the analysis is determined by comparison with the stylistic issues of the XVI International Congress of Slavists, held on August 20-27, 2018 in Belgrade (Serbia). Issues of synchronization of scientific consciousness with time of culture, its chronological sections, configurations of development, evolution of cultural consciousness, changes of cultural verbalized patterns and reasons for emergence of new ideas and non-standard intellectual reflection in the scientific knowledge of linguistic consciousness are being actualized. It is stated that the triad "human - science - time of culture" is dominant in linguistics, defining at the same time the peculiarities of the information age: the synthesis of humanistic tradition and new, paradoxical scientific ideas is quite representative for world linguistics, which is clearly represented in Ukrainian stylistics. The author unfolds the thesis about the formation of scientific consciousness as an existential search for the spiritual affinity of researchers. Thus, in the development of functional stylistics, one can observe continuity from F. de Saussure to the linguists of the XXI century, where the Geneva, Baden or Prague schools ideologically formed various national scientific discourses. The problematic aspects in the development of modern stylistics with their projection into Ukrainian linguistics are considered: the systematic nature of operational stylistic terminology, the diffusion of the objectivity of various areas of linguistics, in particular, functional stylistics, communicative linguistics and genomics, logics of formation of neolinguistics as a subject area that relies on synthesis of linguistic functionalism and other branches of human sciences, etc. The criteria of the Ukrainian research perspective in modern stylistics are formulated.

Abstract:
In modern media, materials which are characterized by skillful organization of language tools to reveal the topic and focus on the recipient, are highly valued. Having professional journalistic skills and a thorough knowledge of the language helps to create texts according to such requirements. Actual in this context is the formation of skills in the years of study related to the observation of the linguistic and stylistic skills of practicing journalists. The purpose of the article is to present the sequence and example of linguistic-stylistic analysis of a journalistic text to clarify the place and role of word-forming and morphological means that form the semantic background and communicative orientation of the message. Methodological bases of linguistic and stylistic analysis of word-forming and morphological means are a set of approaches that take into account: selection of the publication according to certain criteria (relevance of the topic, genre, authorship, etc.); the structure of tokens and grammatical features of individual parts of speech that create the semantic and stylistic expressiveness of a particular journalistic text. Among the research methods are linguistic analysis, compositional-textual and functional-semantic analysis, the method of establishing semantic-functional paradigms, the quantitative method, and others. Results of the research. A linguistic and stylistic analysis of O. Suprunenko’s publication «Chym Pakhne Yevropa» («What does Europe smell like?») (Post-Postup. 2008) demonstrates the course of consideration of word-forming and part-of-speech means of a professional text; shows a way of coherent and consistent presentation of their own observations and opinions. In the analyzed text there is objective information, which includes specific names, words with direct meaning, construction terminology, quotes. Subjective information is the author’s reasoning about the topic covered. The tone of its disclosure is informative and skeptical, which aims to provoke a corresponding reaction from the reader. Stylistic originality of the presentation of the theme is manifested in the use of appropriate linguistic and stylistic means: individual innovations, the expressive potential of grammatical categories of nouns, adjectives, verbs, as well as in the creation of ironic imagery. Stylistic analysis of the text by language levels is an effective means of forming language and speech competence, as it develops the skills of identifying stylistic means in the text and determining their functions to reveal the author’s intention. This form of work also has a research and creative purpose, as it encourages careful study of the stylistic potential of certain means of speech and independently explain their feasibility in a particular text.

Abstract:
The paper argues that corpus linguistics can make useful contributions to the descriptive inventory of literary stylistics. The concept of local textual functions is employed as a descriptive tool for the stylistic analysis of a corpus of texts by Charles Dickens. It is suggested that clusters, i.e. repeated sequences of words, can be interpreted as pointers to local textual functions. The focus is on five-word clusters and five functional groups are identified: Labels, Speech clusters, As If clusters, Body Part clusters and Time and Place clusters. The analysis draws on the identification of key clusters comparing the Dickens corpus with a corpus of nineteenth-century fiction, it identifies links to literary criticism and it gives specific attention to the group of Body Part clusters to illustrate the functional variation of clusters.

Abstract:
This article studies expressive syntax as a type of stylistic devices and illustrates its use in publicistic style economic oral and written media reports. The relevance of the research is that syntactic expressive means have not been thoroughly studied and analyzed in economic mass media. The work aims to identify the techniques that apply syntactic expressive means to evoke emotiveness in economic media reports. This article also addresses the recurrence of usage of expressive syntax in written and oral speech involving economic discourse. Using the method of text analysis on the bases of theoretical linguistic statements evaluating functional style, media stylistics, and stylistic devices in the English language, we determined the diverse usage of expressive syntax in both videocasting and written articles. From analyzed syntactic expressive means, we identified the frequency and common usage of such syntactic expressive means as rhetorical question and simple repetition in oral and written reports. The sample analysis indicated that a paragraph in any economic report might restrain more than one occurrence of expressive syntax; these carry a manipulative function through psychological phenomena represented via syntactic expressive means.

The article studies the ways of rendering stylistic and lexical features of museum texts in the Russian, English and Finnish languages in translations. Research in the field of translation of museum texts seems important in view of the growing popularity of museums and the increased number of international visitors who have to refer to translated texts. The study uses the texts of Kiasma and the Helsinki Art Museum (HAM), Helsinki, as well as the texts of the Museum and Exhibition Complex of Small Arms named after M. T. Kalashnikov, Izhevsk. The source languages (SL) of the analyzed texts were Russian and Finnish, the target languages (TL) were Russian and English. The objective of this research was to study the peculiarities of translating museum texts. In the course of the study, a linguistic analysis of texts in the SL was carried out. It was found that museum texts feature a combination of different functional styles. In addition to publicist and scientific styles, museum texts can have some features of fiction, formal business and colloquial functional styles. The study showed a link between the type of the museum text or the nature of the museum and the functional style of the text. In the course of a comparative and translation analysis of texts in the SL and the TL, the main stylistic and lexical problems of translating museum texts were identified, and optimal translation solutions for conveying the stylistic and lexical features of museum texts were described. It was found that lexical translation problems were most often associated with idioms and the vocabulary lacking equivalents in the TL, as well as the dependence of texts on the visual component of works of art. Stylistic problems, in turn, were due to the need to preserve the functional and stylistic characteristics of the original.

Statement of the problem. The article examines the content of the spirituality concept, formed by the explanatory dictionaries of the modern Russian literary language; the change in its (concept) functional-stylistic lexicographic qualifications as a reflection of the change in value orientations in society. The purpose of the article is to study the lexicographic history of the spirituality concept in a comparative analysis of different dictionaries. The research methodology is based on the comparative method, contextual and, above all, lexicographic analysis of the main explanatory dictionaries of the Russian language. Research results. The study showed that there is no strict unification in the interpretation and functional-stylistic qualifications of the concept under study in the explanatory dictionaries of the Russian language. Conclusions. In modern domestic explanatory lexicography, there is no unified approach both to understanding the content (interpretation) of the spirituality concept, and in its functional and stylistic qualifications. The author’s contribution consists in a large-format (all the main explanatory dictionaries of the modern Russian language) and a very detailed study, which has not been carried out earlier in relation to this very concept.

Abstract:
In homage to the work of Uroš Mozetič, the paper takes as its starting point previously developed suggestions about how the language of “Eveline” conveys a picture of the heroine as a passive, paralysed character. Using Hallidayan Systemic Functional Linguistics as a model of stylistic analysis, it investigates the contribution of both the ideational and the interpersonal metafunctions to the meaning of the text. The results extend and amend some ideas from the literature, such as the supposed prevalence of stative verbs, and suggest that while the short story as a whole predominantly uses material processes, their potential for change is mitigated by Joyce’s aspect, tense, and usuality choices. Eveline as the main character crucially has the role of a Senser, observing and internally reacting to the world around her, and even the processes in which she acts upon things and people are modalised and shown to be either hypothetical or instigated by others.

Abstract:
The study considers the issues of stylistic meaning of language units. Much attention is given to the analysis of leading Ukrainian and foreign researchers’ works. Due to the presence of certain contradictions and insufficient study of some aspects, the problem of stylistic meaning of language units remains relevant and needs further research. The author takes the view that the meaning of a word consists of lexical, grammatical and stylistic components. The article analyzes the terminology associated with the stylistic meaning of language units. It is emphasized that most words have only a denotative meaning, not all words have connotative meanings, but both of them belong to the semantic structure of the word. The author distinguishes three components of the stylistic meaning of language units. There are functional, normative, and expressive components. These components are described by the author in the article. Stylistic meaning is an integral part of the semantic meaning of a word; it reflects the speaker’s attitude to the object or phenomenon he is talking about. The article deals with the different degree of expressive coloring of language units, the peculiarities of the use of stylistically marked vocabulary in different styles of speech, provides examples of its application in modern German language. Particular attention is paid to demonstrating the need and importance of reproducing the stylistic coloring in translation. The author concludes that the components of the stylistic meaning of language units are not only interconnected but also interdependent. They are in close contact with each other. Changing one of the components entails changing the others.

Abstract:
The current article is devoted to the analysis and description of the language of a modern diplomatic text, which represents a diplomatic substyle of a business style. In the Czech language, which possesses a wide stylistic differentiation, a diplomatic substyle remains insufficiently studied. A diplomatic substyle is an integral part of the language of diplomatic communication, in which the Heads of the State and the Government, the ministers of foreign affairs, and representative institutions are involved. This fact brings it closer to the language of political communication. For this reason, the author aims at characterizing the stylistic features of traditional text types in the diplomatic correspondence between the Czech Republic and the Russian Federation, and highlighting their similarities and differences in form as well as in content. By the example of original texts the structure of a diplomatic document is represented: a form of address, protocol forms of courtesy and compliments, its semantic core and the argumentation part as essential parts of a document. The fore cited analysis of the functional-communicative features of the diplomatic texts lexical composition shows the presence of professional names and terms, idioms and cliché, as well as new lexical units and terms that reflect socio-political changes in the Czech Republic and new geopolitical realities.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the linguistic and stylistic solution to research problems of communicative variance of the review genre in modern Ukrainian mass media. The author's provability is based on the contrast of the chosen methodology of medialinguistic analysis and the already formed tradition in the social and communicative scientific paradigm. It allows to realize a comprehensive, syncretic investigation of the functional, context-oriented nature of the review. Medialinguistic analysis of the review genre is based on current illustrative material from authoritative in Ukraine media resources (Voice of America, Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty, BBC) that were interpreted using stylistic and quantitative methodology. It helps to indicate the permanent evolution of the review model: architectonics, system of language units and most importantly – functions. There is a tendency for the review to be more informative, and its analytical nature is defined as an additional functional component a priori. Thus, the idea of the review hypergenre status, alternatively realized in the style of mass media communication, is argued in connection with its extralinguistically motivated tasks and priorities. Such peculiarity of the review genre helps to determine the prospects of its research analysis, especially nowadays, in linguistic and cultural discourse that deepens the medialinguistic and genre subjectivity of the professional interpretation of modern mass media communication.

Abstract:
Burrows’ (1987) stylometric analysis of Austen’s novels associates quite with ‘the speech of the vulgarians, especially the women who predominate among them’. Through a corpus-based analysis, this article takes further Burrows’ (1987) claims by scrutinizing the socio-stylistic mappings between characters and functions of quite in Austen. The results indicate that gender (rather than vulgarity) is the main factor determining the socio-stylistic variation of quite in Austen’s novels. More generally, the study contributes to a better understanding of Jane Austen’s practices of linguistic gendering. Recent literary criticism has commented on Austen’s stylistic manipulations aimed at challenging 18th-century stereotypes of women’s language (Michaelson, 2002: 62–63). The corpus-based study provided in this article can be taken as a concrete example of how such manipulations work at the linguistic level. It suggests that Austen may have drawn on 18th-century stereotypes of ‘female’ language for the stylistic stratification of quite in her novels, although introducing functional and grammatical variations that allow for subtle differentiations across ‘female’ idiolects.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is the analysis of formation of stylistic peculiarities of the language of religious texts of the Russian and Serbian Orthodox Churches on the example of liturgical texts and folklore spiritual verses. The object of this research is the stylistic peculiarities of the language in religious sphere of Russia and Serbia. The goal is to describe the current state of the functional style that serves the religious sphere of Russia and Serbia on the example of liturgical texts and folklore spiritual verses through the prism of their development. The author examines the church religious style, the concept of religious text in Russian and Serbian cultures. Attention is given to the concept of Russian and Serbian religious verse. The relevance of the selected topic is defined by its considerable contribution to the poorly studied areas of modern Slavic philology, as well as to the development of common culture and cooperation of the countries in the religious sphere. The acquired results can serve as the theoretical foundation for further study of the religious lexicon, as well as practically implemented in the special courses and research work. The conclusion is made that the analysis of formation of stylistic peculiarities of the language of religious texts of the Russian and Serbian Orthodox Churches on the example of liturgical texts and folklore spiritual verses is a relevant, although poorly studies area of research, from the perspective of linguistics, Slavic philology, and folklore studies, as well as pivotal area for studying religious lexicon within the framework of stylistics as part of common culture, literature, language, history, and religion of peoples.

Abstract:
Analyses of the worldviews presented by texts have identified grammatical patterns in terms of the transitivity system outlined in systemic-functional grammar (Halliday, 1994; Halliday and Matthiessen, 2014). While contributing to different interpretations of mind style and ideology in different contexts, these patterns and interpretative effects often bear fundamental similarities. In this article, I investigate this underlying similarity in transitivity analyses, or ‘interpretative “lowest common denominator”’ (Simpson, 1993: 105), from a cognitive stylistic perspective. This article attempts to characterise this low-level effect and test it empirically. It takes as its starting point a body of analyses in stylistics and critical discourse analysis which repeatedly link comparable sets of grammatical features (e.g. goal-less intransitive clauses and metonymic agency) to a diminished sense of intentionality, awareness and control in the human agent responsible (e.g. Halliday, 1971; Kennedy, 1991; Simpson and Canning, 2014; Trew, 1979). I argue that the shared interpretative effects of these stylistic choices can be understood in terms of cognitive grammar’s model of construal (Langacker, 2008). Specifically, I propose that the effects of transitivity choices are fundamentally effects for our attribution of mental states, or ‘mind-modelling’ (Stockwell, 2009) of participants, as part of a construal. Finally, I describe an online reader response experiment which tests this proposal among a wider sample of readers. Combining methods from experimental studies of mind attribution in psychology with a controlled alteration of texts by Conrad and Hemingway, this research reveals predictable cognitive effects of transitivity choices across contexts.

Abstract:
The study aims at depicting how male and female authors portray female characters and how their core ideologies and social influences affect these depictions. This study is based on the feminist stylistic approach, proposed by Sara Mills (1995), embedded with the literary theory of feminism. It is an overlapping field that has its roots in critical discourse analysis. This stance is significant as it allows to critically look at the substance to uncover the ideology related to women. From a feminist stylistic perspective, the notion of presenting the distorted image of the female entity is associated with male authors leading to the point that female authors portray female characters positively as compared to their male counterparts. By employing Halliday’s transitivity framework (2004) in Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) as an analytic tool, the utterances of the female protagonists from both the novels: The Blithedale Romance by Nathaniel Hawthorne and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, have been analysed into the process, participants and circumstances. Social influence, mostly in the form of male domination, on ideologies and linguistic choices in the depiction of women in both the writers’ work has been found on almost equal grounds.

Abstract:
This paper presents a corpus-based study about differences in micro-function combination patterns in German and Spanish warranties for household appliances. Firstly the micro-functional text analysis approach is described. This methodology makes feasible an empirically motivated stylistic description of specialised texts. The first large-scale micro-functional text-type analysis was carried out in the stylistic description of German and Spanish employment contracts. The second part of the paper analyses the micro-functional composition of German and Spanish warranties and some text specific combination patterns as well as their language specific differences. It will be shown that in contrast to German warranties, in Spanish warranties obligations tend to be expressed as dependent clauses which are subordinate to independent clauses that reaffirm the validity of the warranty. Moreover it becomes clear that most of these obligations are formulated in an indirect way. Finally possible reasons for the findings are explained by means of the politeness theory and language typology with the results claiming that Spanish texts are more prone to avoid face-threatening acts than German ones and that they are also more explicit in expression. The paper ends with the implications these findings hold for the linguistic adequacy of translations.

Abstract:
The article deals with the stylistic potential of German syntactic means, their expressive–stylistic and functional–stylistic features. The study sets out to reveal the expressive syntactic means. Disorder of a proper sentence structure makes its expressiveness. In contrast to a «syntactic tension», the article analyses a «syntactic loosening» of a normative sentence structure as a current trend in German syntax, as a source of syntactic expressiveness and the most productive instrument of simplification of a sentence structure. Thus, it assimilates to the structure of the everyday language. Syntactic «loosening» of a normative sentence structure is formed by a simple hypotaxis, a failure of closed–in constructions and a lack of grammatical agreement among sentence parts. The study is carried out in the context of historical dynamics. The renunciation of a difficult multi-stage hypotaxis but using of a simple sentence as block structures leads to expression saving and easily understanding. Each of the blocks has a large amount of information. Parts of the sentence are in the same line and are united with nominal juxtaposition. Their development is closely related to the nominalization trend. The influence of colloquial speech on the literary German and its written form, closing to natural speech lead to the renunciation of closed–in constructions. The author proves that the removal of grammatical structures isn't new for the modern literary German, but it presents the perfectly sound tendency. As a result of this study, there is a conclusion that the modification of the grammatical structure isn't the result of an abrupt shift or radical turn but it is a natural continuation of a dynamic process.

Abstract:
This article represents the research of interpretative (subjective) approach to the correlation of adjacent linguistic branches — speechology and stylistics of an academic text. The explanatory cognitive-discursive and stylistic approach to solving the problem relies on the principles of the functional style concept developed by the Perm Scientific School led by Prof. M. N. Kozhina, in particular, on the unity of two sides of text — the linguistic one (that is its meaning structure) and the extralinguistic one (its meaning as a given). The unlimited variety of particular texts (even only in the academic and cognitive sphere of human activities) is one of significant reasons for applying a “soft” interpretative approach for the object analysis in speechology and functional stylistics (this approach always depends on the subject of analysis and is therefore subjective). The meaning text structure has a categorical and gradual character and that is why it correlates with the issue of the model academic text. Through the imposition of categories/parameters of this “categorical thermometer”, the speech phenomena are qualified as style-forming (that is significant for stylistics of academic speech) and non-style-forming (or discursive) which are significant for speechology. The extralinguistic base correlates with the factors which are located on the scale “farther — closer” against the subject of cognitive activity. “Farther” is a form of public conscience (corresponding type of activity and thinking), “closer” is a style of academic thinking, a personal cognitive style, an individual speech style of an academic, a language personality. The dominant and style-forming factors strongly influence the selection and appropriate use of language units, creation of a text by an author and perception of a text by a reader, as well as the interpretation of a text by a researcher in the field of functional stylistics. The academic text is being formed under the influence of differently orientated factors (towards the object and the subject), which are discursive and non-style-forming in the framework of one style. The discursive factors can operate as strong ones and weak ones (peripheral, optional) in the framework of one style. Their impact is comprehensive and appropriate as well as implicit and diverse — that is why their further differentiation is interpretative (subjective). The focus of speechology is just the research of non-style-forming extralinguistic factors.

The material for semantic and stylistic analysis includes over 2500 texts of the citynewspaper “Kuznetsky rabochy” (Novokuznetsk, Russia) since 1980 to 2014. Appeal to mediatexts of this period is tied with important changes in spiritual life of Russian society. Abstract:
The object of this research is the category of chronotope – a significant complex text category that reflects the semantic coordinates of the text and extra-textual reality. The category of chronotope intertwines the isomorphic components of textual time and textual space. The Akathist genre belongs to an insufficiently studied functional religious style. Examination of the category of chronotope in the context of Akathist genre is relevant trend in the modern functional stylistics. The research material contains the texts of Orthodox Akathists dedicated to the canonized saints. The objectivity of scientific research is justified by the choice of texts from various time periods. The author applies the method of categorical-textual analysis, which reveals the linguo-stylistic technique of formation of the components of general communicative-pragmatic meaning of the text. The novelty is defined by the fact that the use of categorical-textual method in the analysis of the Akathist type of text, interpreted as a generalized textual structure with typical genre-forming components, allows determining with a high degree of objectivity the genre specificity of Akathist and religious functional style. As a result of the conducted research, the author highlights the categorical-textual typology of chronotope, which characterizes the systematic uniformity of Akathist texts. The article describes the methods of explication of the sacred, objective (objectively-sacred and objectively-profane), and subjective (subjectively-sacred and subjectively-profane) types of time and space. Temporal indicators and locative units of the determined types of chronotope reconstruct the dichotomy of the divine and the earthly in the Akathist, which is inherent to the Christian worldview and constructively substantiates the uniqueness of the religious functional style. The conducted analysis reveals the communicative-pragmatic focus of the complex textual category of chronotope. The research materials can be used as an illustrative textbook in the practical course of the stylistics of modern Russian language.

Abstract:
Functional and stylistic peculiarities of the anthroponyms of Ye. Malaniuk’s poetry are investigated, their role in expressing the basic idea, in particular the specificity of anthroponyms usage in Ye. Malaniuk’s poetry is described, their contextual and functional text-forming essence is established, and functional and stylistic features are revealed, the situations of application of models against the background of the era and genre are analyzed. The influence of onims on the perception of images by the reader is investigated, the peculiarities of the poet's idiolect through the prism of proper names are determined. The use of anthroponyms has been found to create associative connections that extend the space of poetry, help the writer to express himself more fully and to connect with the reader. The anthroponymic material describes individual author’s features of name creation and use, describing their role in expressing the main idea. Anthroponyms, which are constituent elements of artistic text, represent the specificity of a work of verbal art as a system. Ye. Malaniuk’s works are a valuable treasure of Ukrainian culture in which onims are its integral parts. It is revealed that anthroponyms form and represent in a complex their own onim space in literary and artistic work and in all creative achievements of the artist. The state historiophysical concept defined the organization of Ye. Malaniuk’s texts at all studied levels. The anthroponymicon used by the writer is organized into the following thematic groups: artists, historical figures, mythological and biblical characters, literary characters, contemporaries, and the author's anthroponyms. The studied units represent significant national and cultural components and at the same time fulfil an artistic and evaluative function in the vast majority of its texts. Literary anthroponyms, along with other means, generate intellectualism as one of the specific feature of individual author’s handwriting. A systematic analysis of onim Ye. Abstract:
As a rule, legal genres are subdivided into three large thematic groups: “Legislation” (laws, regulations, instructions, acts, orders), “Case law” (judicial decisions, appeals, protocols, court orders and court inquiries), “Official documentation” (official correspondence, reports, contracts). This research focuses on the pragmalinguistic and linguo-stylistic analysis of German legislative texts. The authors describe the characteristics of legislative genres and single out their general and special language functions. The relevance of the article is based on the fact that in Russia and abroad there are few linguistic papers on the analysis of legislative genre and law texts. In the meantime, the given research direction is highly prospective for interdisciplinary studies. The authors argue that the function of nomination, the function of message, the function of influence and the function of communication are vividly manifested in legislative genre via multilevel language means. A pragmatic analysis of the legal norms of the German legislative texts shows that the latter are characterized by imperative and dispositive legal norms, while recommendatory legal norms for the texts of German laws are less typical. The methodological base of research includes contextual and functional analysis, linguo-stylistic techniques as well as descriptive and linguo-pragmatic methods of analysis.

Abstract:
The article considers the communicative-pragmatic approach to the study of business discourse, analyzes the relationship between the business and the Internet space, reveals the genre specificity of blogs and the peculiarities of business discourse. The intentional base of business discourse is the struggle for power, which predetermines its main functions and methods of their implementation, speech acts, strategies and tactics. The goal of business discourse is not to describe, but to convince, having awakened intentions in the addressee, to give ground for persuasion and induce to action, in which the manipulative orientation of business discourse is manifested. Speech integration, orientation and aggression are widely used in accordance with the illocutionary purpose of expressing intentionality. Discourse is political when it accompanies a political act in a political setting. It has both common language functions and characteristic features of business discourse. The most important functions of social control and the legitimization of power can be considered, since it is they who have manipulative influence on the public, thereby achieving the main goal business discourse - the possession of power and control of society. In this research discourse can be used in any forms of communication related to the sphere of language. Such a definition of discourse involves the study of political language material taking into account the cultural, spatial and temporal conditions of its existence, as well as socio-cultural and personal characteristics of its creators and authors. In this regard, the issues of discourse analysis, as the most influential on public consciousness and widespread in the business, identifying its linguistic and extra-linguistic features are highlighted today, which requires to the system-forming signs of discourse, its units, basic concepts and functions prove the topicality of our research. Practical part identifies the main lexico-semantic, stylistic-syntactic and pragmatic features of modern business discourse in websites and mass business. It deals with a description of the functional and pragmatic capabilities of lexical and stylistic means in posts in political in websites and mass business, analyzes the pragmatic potential of these units and determines the range of their communicative and pragmatic functions. The novelty of the research lies in the fact that it considers the features of the web-site discourse from semantic, stylistic and communicative-pragmatic aspect, which will further deepen and expand the special knowledge in the conceptual world view of the English-speaking community and their fixation on the linguistic map. The purpose of the research work is to consider the most effective language means of representing the communicative and pragmatic potential of business discourse in web-sites and mass business. In the achievement of the main purpose of the study, the following tasks were set: - to characterize the phenomenon of discourse as a linguistic phenomenon; - to consider the specifics of the linguistic picture of the world in the framework of business discourse; - to identify the features of the functional, mainly linguo-cultural and stylistic peculiarities business discourse, reflecting business discourse in web-sites and mass business; - to stablish the general conditions for the productivity of lexical and stylistic and syntactic means in website discourse.

Abstract:
The phenomenon under study as a branch of linguistics and a unique product of speech and cognitive activity is also subject to characterization, linguo-stylistic analysis, because any communication of society is part of speech genres, and for practicing direct inclusion of journalists it is necessary to have the skills to use an oral television text, which is a linguistic organization that attracts attention audience with its anthropocentric nature. It also has a specific style, which completely depends on the composition and construction of media communication, since the quality of an oral message in the context of direct inclusion depends on its logic, connectedness, accuracy and accessibility. Therefore, direct television inclusion, in addition to the creative component, is a complex syntactic and lexical system, which has communicative and functional significance for the scientific and applied environment. Over the more than twenty years of its development, live broadcasting has not only become a strategic component of air, broadcasting and reporting, but has also generated new dynamic genre forms in television journalism, for example, performance, and this, in turn, has led to the emergence of an important trend in television organizations. Its essence is in relying on the reporter, which led to the emergence of such a concept as «universalism», which modern journalists aspire to in order to cope with all the tasks of television production, and therefore to compete confidently in the labor market.

Abstract:
The object of this research is the conceptual framework of surrealism as a literary trend. The subject of this research is the specific surrealistic system of concepts and paradigms implemented in literary texts. The author examines such aspects of the topic, as notional tools and the logic of interaction between the concepts of surrealistic theory, possibility for surrealistic system text analysis, specificities of correlation between surrealistic system, text, and surrealistic code as the regulatory structural formation that defines the general principles and rules of functionality of surrealistic system. Special attention is given to one of the types of notions of surrealistic system — incipits, which include such categories that launch the mechanism of inosculating the contradictions, i.e. “initiate” the realization of surrealistic; such categories Desire, Dream, Imagination, Freedom, Utopia, and Unconscious. The main conclusion of conducted research consists in recognition of possibility for description of surrealistic conceptual framework as a relational system, which includes functional interaction of the three types of notions (incipits, routers, and nodes) using the fourth type of notions (mediators). Functionality of similar typological network consists in actualization of the key principles of surrealistic code and their implementation in particular literary texts. The novelty lies in the fact that the combination of concepts of surrealistic theory and feature writing is analyzed as an open, non-regulatory system, which allows carrying out stylistic analysis of the texts that contain surrealistic elements. The research intuitions are corroborated by notional and functional analysis.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is the structural components of hypergenre “personal file”. The object of this research is business letters. Analysis is conducted on the basis of archived personal filed of the students of Arkhangelsk State Medical Institute for the period from 1930’s – 1940s. The goal consist in introducing new texts of business correspondence into the scientific discourse. In the course of this study, the author solves the following tasks: extraction of documents from the personal files that genre-wise belong to correspondence; determination of genre distinctness of the extracted documents; description of stylistic and functional characteristic of letters and notes. The discursive-communicative analysis of the texts of business correspondence proves that the addresser and the addressee are based on the general social presuppositions. The genre analysis allowed studying the specificity of the genre of business letter and note. For examination of linguistic units of business texts, the author uses the methods of semantic, stylistic and discursive analysis. It is claimed that the hypergenre “personal file” includes a special genre group – business letter or note that manifests as the structural elements of personal file. The author highlights the documents comprising the group of letters/notes based on the formal criterion, i.e. presence of addressee; from the perspective of functional criterion, namely the purpose of document and intention of the addresser; according to discursive-compositional markers, such as form of address or etiquette formula. The article demonstrates the specificity of indicated genres in the particular historical period within the framework of a hypergenre, which is an important addition to the overall picture of the development of business writing, as well as a source for determining normative and stylistic peculiarities of the document on the various language levels.

Abstract:
In James Joyce's short story, `Eveline', a young woman is thinking about a new life away from an unhappy existence which involves caring for a violent father. In the story, Eveline is to elope with Frank to Buenos Aires, but Eveline fails to join him on the night boat. This story has attracted much critical attention. In particular, commentators have picked up on the faint clues throughout that Eveline is not going to leave her home. It is as though Eveline's subconscious is communicating this while she is consciously reflecting on whether to elope with Frank. But how can such clues be identified in a systematic way whilst responding to the familiar charges made by Stanley Fish that stylistic analysis and interpretation is arbitrary and circular? In this article, I perform a corpus-informed stylistic analysis of `Eveline' in order to reveal some of these subconscious intimations whilst reducing as much as possible arbitrariness and circularity in analysis and interpretation. To do so, I build on formal insights into `Eveline' provided in Michael Stubbs's corpus-informed analysis by proceeding to a more functional exploration of the story.

Abstract:
Article analyses the thematic, lexical and grammatical and functional- stylistic appearance of slang in the language of mass media on the structural and semantic level; ways of entry of sang of certain thematic groups into the system of modern Ukrainian language are traced; expressive-emotional potential of stylistic reduced vocabulary in modern publicist discourse is analyzed; the semantic modifications and functional specificity of slang were clarified. The attempt to analyze the peculiarities of appearance, development and functioning of slang in modern periodicals was made. It was noticed, that mass media language and spoken language today are the only sources for scientific generalization of slang. During the studying of slang, the question about what categories and language means were activated, motioned, mobilized for playing functions of language as the most important mean of persons’ communication was researched.

Abstract:
The style-function dichotomy lies at the heart of the evolutionary archaeology research program. It also is the source of much disagreement about how we should conceive of the processes of culture change. Evolutionary archaeologists tend to view archaeological attributes as either functional, if they respond to selection, or stylistic, if they do not. Others tend to see style and function as operating simultaneously. A resolution to this problem is proposed through development of a formal mathematical model of style- and function-based evolution using a hypothetical example of temporal patterns of ceramic decoration within a community of household-based potters. Simple replicator equations are proposed to describe the household-scale dynamics of change in the relative frequency of ceramic decoration. These low-level dynamics can be distinguished on the basis of whether or not change is correlated with some measure of performance, utility, or payoff. The replicator equations are then used to derive several versions of the Price Equation (Price 1970), a very general and powerful statement about total evolutionary change in any system. At this scale of analysis, total change is similarly partitioned into payoff-correlated (functional) and payoff-independent (stylistic) contributions and it is shown that these processes are likely to operate simultaneously. Tests of the model against simulated data show that it is possible to estimate with considerable accuracy the strength of functional and stylistic contributions to culture change under ideal conditions of site preservation. Further theoretical work is needed, however, to understand how diverse site formation and disturbance processes might impact application of the model in real archaeological settings.
